Did a search in the forum and found several old posts about 3G unristirctor for Android but it seems no luck yet. I just switched from iphone to a samsung infuse. I'm missing that tiny app on ios. There are some apps not working without wifi. Anybody knows why there's not something similar for the open source android platform? Is it difficult technically or there are some other reasons?

What apps are talking about that only allow WiFi? Is been a while since I held an iPhone in my hands but when I switched over to Android I wanted the same thing that you want just because Skype didn't allow you to make calls over 3G but now that's solved and I don't really see a need for this type of app in the Android world.
Speaking from experience, you'll stop wanting all of these "iphone fan" apps after a couple of mouths...TRUST ME! After getting my feet wet and playing around with all the different types of Android apps and flashing custom roms and kernels, there's NO FREAKING way I would get an iPhone!!
I agree. But in the future when Skype support video chat on the phone, I doubt they will allow video chat on wifi only. I'm saying that because another chat tool I'm using - QQ - does support video chat, but not working on 3G/4G.

So as everyone is aware, ICS is coming to the Sensation - however I'm curious as to whether it'll support video calling natively? Clearly it is possible to do, and frankly I was disappointed that HTC didn't take the same initiative as Samsung to put their own video-calling in. But I'd like to see the option there ASAP!
im sure you can use skype and google talk to video call on senny.

Yes, but it requires the person you're calling to have Skype, or else "skype credit". Ditto for Google, they need the app.
I use tango for video calls
you can video chat with anyone with gmail account and a vid capable computer. (and phones with the app of course).
think it's about as "native" as it's gonna get on google's eco system.
I think the OP is looking for Android to gets it's equivalent to Apple's Facetime.
Right?
as far as im aware Samsung phones dont have own video calling app.
they use google talk and skype too, gtalk being free 100%.
Google Talk would be the most likely equivalent to Apple's FaceTime.
Comes built in with video talk tech on Android 2.3.5
I'm not sure I follow. Idk how much more native you want being that gtalk comes on most Android phones. You look at the iPhone face time is only for I phone 4 now 4s and the iPad and iPod. Maybe the better word he's looking for is deeper integration maybe

ICS source code should be out November 17th, so custom roms will have ICS support soon!

means new CM will start to be made!
Hopefully we have CM nightlies by January.
I know that this problem/question is many time mentioned but seems that some do not understand the purpose for so called "native video calls support".
Do I have to know what video call application my responder must have installed just to effectively make a video call ? NO it's just lame. Even old nokia phones support video calls NATIVELY, so it's just an excuse of lousy google coders or another limitation between different platforms.
I've often thought this was a bit stupid from Android/HTC's point of view. My old Sony Ericsson could do it.

Exactly. It should be integrated like making a phone call or sending an SMS. Tap on the person in your contacts and it comes up with another option to video call.
The biggest thing I think should happen is if your on a call to someone you have the option of transferring to video call, just like you can put the call on speaker phone. Full native integration. Hell, I could do this simple transfer on the Sony.
Here's hoping though.
Okay, I've been looking for a good solution and haven't found one yet. I'm hoping some of the creative minds out here in the community can help me out.
I'm from the States, and I'm currently working in China. I'll be here for another 5 months or so. I'm a Nexus devotee, so I've got my Nexus 4 and my Nexus 7 here with me. The N4 goes everywhere with me, and the N7 is more of a couch/bed companion and a travel reader/movie player. I'm trying to find a good integrated messaging solution for communicating both with my colleagues and friends here in China as well as my friends and family back home.
When I first moved here, my plan was for Google Voice to be my solution. I had my cell number ported to Voice, and I have continued to use that for texts, voicemail, and VOIP calls using Groove IP. That has been a pretty handy solution, and it's nice that I can also access my messages when I'm sitting at my laptop through the Chrome extension. There are a couple of downsides to Voice though. The first is that it's kind of a clunky piece of software. It's certainly not sleek, and the syncing between devices can be a little hairy. I haven't figured out how to get a nicely functional inbox either. Google refuses to accept my China Mobile number for some reason, so I have to activate the app by using another friend's US number and then deactivating messages to her phone. Also, my friends and family members who are Apple users complain about the app being really poorly designed on Apple products. They don't actually need it of course (the reason I set it up was so my phone number would continue to work for everyone), but I can't control their end of it.
GChat/Talk is one option that I like quite a bit. It syncs really well between devices, and it's really clean and sleek. One issue I have with it is that, when my internet gets spotty at work (which is far too frequently), a message will sometimes arrive on my N7 at home, and I won't see it until I get home from work later that night. Also, once again, the Apple users hate this option because of the terrible choices on iOS.
In doing some research on some other options, I came across Kik, and I instantly fell in love. It's sleek like Talk with quick messaging, but it's more comprehensive with additional features and a better implementation of read/unread messages. I got it all set up on my N7 and was ready to tell everyone to sign up when I installed it on my N4. I looked at my N7, and I was back at the login screen. I logged in again and saw the screen pop up on my N4. The software does not support multiple devices. That's unfortunately a deal-breaker. Unless they fix that flaw, Kik is out the window.
I'm using mysms right now, and it's got potential, but I'm still not completely sure. I haven't really figured out the best settings to get it most effectively working with my China Mobile number and my Google Voice number. It's not as sleek and fast as Kik or Talk, and I've gotten some complaints from the Apple crowd about it not being very intuitive. But it does sync pretty well between devices, and I can access it easily on my Windows 7 laptop. So far, though, I'm not thrilled with it.
I would like to hear from the community any tricks with settings, additional apps to try, or other creative solutions to this. All ideas are welcome, and I'll be happy to try anything out to see how it works, so please don't be shy about any ideas. Thanks in advance for your help.
What is the best WiFI calling app for windows phone? It needs to be cross platform to iOS.
From the reviews ive read Viber and Skype dont work at all? is this true? Im heading down to Peru and it would be helpful to make WiFi calls.
Thanks,
Skype and Viber both work fine for me to any platform. Best one varies on time of day, network loads and what country you call.
Not sure where people come up with the loads of misinformation there is about WP8. Possibly due to WP7's patchy support and API's but for general day-to-day usage, WP8 is the same as the rest.
Yep I use Skype all the time with no problems at all.
MobileVOIP is also okay...
I downloaded and installed Skype on my 1020 but I never had chance to test it because I have had to send my phone off for a new screen But before I get it back, What program are you using and when other programs work like Skype?
Skype is the best for me.

Line and Skype are the best WiFi Application. I have used both of them on my Nokia Lumia 1020 and also the video clarity is very good.
Most phones today have wifi direct. However, very few of these can actually use it to share files the way samsungs can. Of course, there are many 3rd party apps that can do it, and some quite well, but the thing they all have in common is that the app must be installed on both devices. (Unless using a web address on a browser on the receiving device, which is not so user friendly as apps like superbeam, or the samsung wifi direct share.)
Wouldn't it be great if all android devices came with a preinstalled app to do send large files back and forth, eith share options in all apps, like bluetooth share, only for wifi direct? Because lets face it, while blutooth is certainly useful, it's just too slow for anything more than a few picture or a short video.
So why not make a feature request in code.google.com, asking for a wifi direct share app to to be preinstalled in all devices, (in new android versions, that is, just to add another app to the gapps we already have,) or even just to be able to install from play store, just like google camera, the only difference being that all devices will be able to receive the file the way all phones can receive an incoming bluetooth file..
If this isea interests you, Post here, and if I see that thete is enough interest to actually make this worthwhile, I will post a new topic there and we can try getting as many people as possible to vote for it there, and maybe we might get our wish and the next version of android will include this! I can't believe it would be very difficult for google to implement.
So, does anyone else think this is a good idea? If you do then tell me and lets see if we can actually get built in wifi direct sharing on android!
Hello all, been searching for an answer to this, but cannot seem to find it. I do a Google search and lots of spammy sites because of the keywords I guess.. I am an apple convert. My parents are both apple people and I recently picked up a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8. tablet to try it out. I have had iPhones and an older iPad for a while, so Im new to the environment. I thought who better to know about this than the folks who develop for the OS?
If I go to a mobile website like m.chatrandom.com (don't judge! Im 20 year old guy..xD) on Android Chrome it will not give me the option of activating my camera. It puts up a little box and says to click my mouse in it to activate controls. If I use firefox I get a popup that lets me pick front or rear camera and microphone. Once chosen I cannot switch back and forth. Seems to me that I should be able to. Any ideas or help for this?
Thanks!
Steve
