[Q] No more free hotspot tethering on T-Mobile NS? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was just using my T-Mobile NS for hotspot tethering and it all of a sudden stopped working. What I mean by stopped working is, when I try to connect to the internet. I automatically get directed to a T-Mobile site which basically says. If you want to keep using the tethering option you have to pay 14.99 a month. Just for whatever, I have the unlimited data $20 loyalty plane. I've been using this feature since I got phone on the release date and never had any problems until now. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Lastly, my NS is completely stock running 2.3.6... Thanks

[Q] AT&T Teathering...

So anyone understand what this article is talking about?
http://www.softwaredownloadsguide.com/2011/02/htc-inspire-4g-htc-inspire-4g-on-att-release-date/
Here is the part I am curious about:
AT&T will charge monthly data plans for the HTC Inspire 4G will price $15 for 200MB of data and $25 per month for 2GB data plan. Data can be use through Hotspot capacity from Datapro Tethering plan for the user data allowance. HTC Inspire 4G will be available on AT&T stores and online from 13th February at price $99.99 with two years contract.

So does this mean that people with unlimited plans at $30 a month should be ok to tether their laptops via wifi?
No, you need a data pro plan with tethering. $45 for 4gb of data.
so i wonder if there will be a way around that cause i currently have a unlimited data plan and really don't want to pay for the tethering plan (have been using WMWifirouter for WM 6.5). Any ideas to help me out being a cheepskate!?

PDA.Net is an option since you have an unlimited plan.
once we get root (assuming we do) are there other tethering options (you will have to pardon me as i am still new to android). When i did searches there is some material on the subject but from what i understand the phone has to be rooted for these to work.

Yes once you root your phone you will have other options to choose from such as Android Wifi tether.
thanks.. now if the predictions continue at the same rate of what i continue to read the phone will be rooted before i ever get it home from the store
PDA.net is wired tethering, not a wifi hotspot
Ya I have the $30 unlimited data with AT&T. Using the HD2 Australian version (android OS) I am able to use the Wi-Fi Hotspot app, only problem is where I live they don't use 850 for 3G so I only have EDGE. I am really looking forward to what can be done with the Inspire, because having such an amazing phone kind of sucks with such slow data speeds.
This is something I am very interested in also. I am assuming the wifi tethering that ATT is talking about it the MobileAP that is already present on damn near every 2.2 rom. I heard that they are going to have a setting that will let ATT control whether your INSPIRE 4g will be able to use this feature. I am on the unlimited plan now with my craptivate and was just thinking about buying it off contract and dropping my sim in. does anyone think that this might be an issue?
My only worry is that ATT tries to screw you in almost every way possible if they think they can make more money off you. Technically we shouldn't have to pay for tethering IMHO we are already paying for the data why should it matter how or on what device we use it on??

I agree, although it seems like once they get it rooted we will be able to put our own tethering app on it and avoid having to pay for a ridiculous plan. I used WMWiFi Router on my incite and HTC's tethering on the windows mobile HD2 and now the WiFi Hotspot app on Android on the HD2 all on ATT with an unlimited data plan without tethering.

[Q] Possible Tethering Warning??

I have the Captivate through ATT which I upgraded to the Gingerbread and rooted. I uninstalled the tethering manager and have been using my phone as a wifi hotspot and at times using the usb tethering. I haven't done that for about a month now but just received this via text -->> "AT&T Free Msg: Did you know tethering your Smartphone to a computer requires a tethering plan? Pls call 866-975-0003 for details or visit att.com/dataplans."
Should I take this as a warning? If this is a warning, I thought it was difficult for ATT to detect tethering through an Android phone and easy for them to detect tethering through an iPhone. Also, is it unwise to use usb tethering??
I had a Nokia E71x prior and was able to tether all I want. I didn't need a tethering plan and I was, and still am, grandfathered in the unlimited data plan. I would think that I, and anyone else, should be allowed to tether without adding a new feature.
Teathering
You might try a different rom. I have been using CWM9 and Dark Knights 4.0.4 ICS for quite a while. I am on AT&T and have never got that message to this point. I have a friend on AT&t who was just trying out a phone that would normally need a data plan (which he did not have) and he got the message on the 3rd day. Maybe this is just hit and miss, but I am OK so far.

[Q] Question with using android prepaid with T-mobile

I have the Samsung Galaxy S 4G model no: SGH-T959V. I have it with T-mobile and paying prepaid $60 bucks a month. Ive been using my phone alot as a hotspot this past week since I had to disconnect my cable service. have used up 300MBs and no issues what so ever. I was told there was a limit of data when using your prepaid smartphone as a hotspot.
but if I go to my account, and then plan, then change additional services. theres an option at the bottom of the menu saying Smartphone mobile hotspot for $15.00. is that something different ? cause I havent been paying an extra 15 bucks a month to use as a hotspot. not complaining that i get to take advantage of it for free, but what is it that I might be doing different thats by passing it ? is it that particular model ? Just want to know so I know how to get around it again if I switch my sim to another phone. Thinking about upgrading to the Galaxy S2
Anyone ?
T-mobile doesn´t like it if you share your internet connection without paying them more than you normally have to without sharing. I never got in trouble when I use my mobile as hotspot. I never get such a message like you.

I never got any message. I want to know how am i by passing that. if you check online with the prepaid you have to pay 15 bucks a month extra to use ur smartphone as a hotspot. well ive had the phone for over a year used it as a hotspot numerous times and have never paid the additional 15 a month. Someone told me today it might have to with my particular model. Not complaining here, sure im happy I get to use it as a hotspot for free. I just want to know how that is working incase I upgrade to the Galaxy S2. Are others capable of using their tmobile prepaid smartphone as a hotspot for free as well ?

Hotspot issues

So I'm trying to setup hotspot using the 20$ a month data on tmo but can't get it setup can anyone help?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
I assume you mean the fully unlimited 20$ on value plan or you have the 2gb on a classic plan?
For official support of the network need either the 5gb or 10gb plan that includes tethering.
Neither of these plans thru T-Mobile will allow hotspot to work directly but there are work arrounds
If you have android 4.0.3 yet just make a new apn with any name and for the apn field "epc.tmobile.com" (without the quotes) leaving everything else blank and that will work then. If you are rooted same thing applies.
If you have the new android 4.0.4 there is no way yet to make built in work ok you can use foxfi but screen has to be left on for it to work. As soon as screen goes off your data stops unless you are streaming a movie or something.

[Q]pay at&t for tethering? not if I can help it!

Can anyone help me? Got an email yesterday from AT&T warning me to stop tethering (free), or else. My note 2 is rooted and running Scott's Rom's Clean Rom Ace 5.0. ? I was tethering with portable wi-fi hot spot app. Using about 8 gig per month.
My question is, since they have figured out that I have been tethering with this tethering app, should I have been using the hot spot toggle that is in the custom rom instead? Or would that make no difference. So, can anyone tell me if there is a way to continue to free tether without at&t finding out? I have a grandfathered in unlimited data plan and don't want to loose it. They tell me I have till the end of the month to stop tethering . If I dont, they will automatically enroll me in there fifty dollar for 5 gig plan. No way I'm going to let that happen. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.
