Good Evening,
After taking the 4G apart several times I decided I would take pictures to highlight the few differences. Some noticeable differences:
1) antenna placement on the board, matching contact placement different on the back housing underside
2) the connector for the headset is different and the ribbon is labeled T959V (model # for the 4G)
3) less memory which can be seen thru the software
4) the GPS still sucks and does not work on this one
5) maybe I received a defective unit but there is an overheating issue. the 4G uses 200ma more than the vibrant but maybe the phone or the charger is defective as it keeps overheating and with time charging seems to be more of an issue/concern. software confirms this with error message.
Enjoy the pics.

Thanks and I hope this helps satisfy some curiosity. In my opinion, from owning both of them, not worth the upgrade at all. The 4G is going back to T-Mo.
Wow Samsung.. a new model and you STILL can't get the GPS right? This is absurd
Pretty neat to see them both....

my gps works great... was showing 11ft accuracy on gpstest tonight.
Can you confirm that the camera has the same plug connector as the vibrant ?

Yes - confirmed - camera has the same plug connector. I swapped various parts back & forth to test things out (actually using them, took pictures, etc.) and the only things that are not compatible are the headset plug connector; I guess that is why it is the only part inside that has T959V labeled on the ribbon itself, and the back housing - the antenna contacts receptor(?) on the underside, since one of them was moved to the top of the board, which is also labeled T959V instead of i9000 as it is on the Vibrant.
My gps works great. Maybe its just your phone?

where is the modem at? is it interchangable? like could i buy one online like the ffc? then i would esentually have a vibrant 4g?

The modem is one of the black chips soldered onto the board. So no I don't think it would be that easy even if you have those robot precise soldering skills. I will upload a picture that shows the chips and identifies them on the Vibrant (same layout as the 4G but obviously the modem is different on the 4G. Then you have to consider that the extra 20% juice this phone consumes (1000ma on the 4G vs 800ma on the Vibrant) is to power the new modem. So even if you did have the soldering skills, then you might have a power problem.

Yes, it is a possibility. The phone keeps overheating as well when charging, it gets extremely hot. I think this may be a defective unit I received.
i got my 4g and so far no problems with battery or GPS... gps was the first thing i tried and it worked great. im guess some of these crappy phones are slipping through Quality Assurance on the assembly line...

You are totally right. You would think after the GPS mess & outrage with the Vibrant that they would be more careful this second time around. Apparently they did not listen or learn. It really makes me consider going for the LG Optimus 2X instead of the S2. I really want to get the S2 but these problems keep worrying me. It is like loving someone but they keep beating you up, do you get out of the relationship or keep hoping it gets better? Hmmm....
my gps works alright, sometimes it's a little wonky but nothing horribly concerning. i haven't gotten the overheating issue once although my battery is kind of sad.. i've rooted it and used setcpu to underclock when idle but still just short battery life.
i have noticed, however, that i have a green tint to my screen. noticed when taking photos that skin tones are off, then i email it to myself and check on other phones/computers and sure enough, it's just my 4g screen that seems to be tinted green a little. anyone else notice this or is it just me?

Hmm that sucks, if you are going to keep it, that is a problem I would not want to have, try get it exchanged. Thanks for letting us know about your problem.
Maybe someone has a solution and can offer some advice for the green tint?
This thread alone just convinced me that there is no way I would upgrade from the vibrant to this. What a let down. I considered getting it at first but thankfully realized they are just the same phone.
Moved to general as not android development
My friend and I both got 4Gs' at the same time. My gps fixed within 2 meters in my home, his running side by side took a long time to aquire. We rebooted his, gps took a long time to aquire but after 2 min, it did, but was within 9 meters of same location.

I wanna know...
I see the GPS is an issues. But I wanna know from yall that have the SGS 4G, is this the phone to buy right now on Tmobile or go a different route?
Im still rockin a Touch Pro 2. Contract about to end soon. I was lookin at the myTouch4G but the SGS 4G has better looking radios. Where the myTouch only has the 14.4 stuff.
What's yalls thought on it?
I have used both and they are both good phones. The decision for me was made by the screen on the GS4G, the Super AMOLED just looks so much better to me. The MT4G is a more solid feeling phone and it is plenty fast (processing wise). The GS4G is noticeably faster on the 4G network and I also get faster speeds while on WiFi, not sure why but I will take it! Coming from the TouchPro 2 you will be happy with either, I just prefer the GS4G.
Hi guys, i am thinking of moving across from my Atrix 4G to the Infuse and was hoping to get some questions asnwered without trolling through here for hours.
I like my Atrix overall as a phone, but the locked bootloader is putting a dampener on my wishes to flash true ROMS. So, can you answer a few question for me please?
1. How do you find the quality of the phone overall?
2. What is battery life like?
3. Is it good performance wise (does the extra clock speed make eup for the older gen processor) ?
4. Are the ROMS available supported well with updates and feature adding?

well it is not an arm a9 or dual core but it runs better than the other hummingbird phones due to extra ram and a quality job on the firmware.
build quality is good, parts fit much tighter than motorola and internals look more professional than htc but it feels kinda flimsy, not as rugged as the captivate was. it is just too large, too thin, and the plastic is too light and not rigid enough, this construction was great for a smaller phone like the galaxy s but is questionable on a phone this big and thin. that said it is not likely to break, i have dropped mine a few times i just wish it had a metal frame in there.
the hummingbird is very fast, it wont always beat the tegra but on some benchmarks it can get better frame rates especially with kernel mods. my 3d scores in antutu on my capivate were double what any stock phone had on the list when i was using a custom kernel. on the other hand the hummingbird is not well supported by the game develpoers probably because of lower popularity in america and because the tegra represents the next generation and the snapdragon is more popular and more clockable, future snapdragons will see 1.4ghz and up on the same core they are currently using.
so since it doesnt have the gaming dev it deserves (can be helped with chainfire 3d) the advantage of the hummingbird comes down to media playback. the hummingbird can playback H.264 mkv files at a higher class than the tegra, it is only beat by apples a5 in the ipad2 and the orion chip in the sgs2 with video playback. when gingerbread is available it will play those files even better.
so maybe it isnt as fast as the tegra2, but it is faster(slightly) in specific areas. im not saying one or the other is better but dont look at the hummingbird as an old processor just yet. other than that it has good battery life and the dev section is in it's infancy. when there is a kernel dev things will get alot better, if you want to help us get a kernel dev then donate to netarchy in the donations thread. for now the roms are good quality, the devs that are here are good with giving people what they want and at modding apps.

You are on the Infuse 4g not Inspire.
But anyway. We have gray ROMs and bettery battery, my 2 friend I let them.play with my infuse, they both have atrix , not they are both selling it on craiflist, even though this is just single core they told me they can see no difference, but me I don't know anything about the atrix because I don't have one, but most of the things I heard that atrix has bad battery and heat issues.

Thanks, fixed that. Im in the correct forum, just wrote the wrong phone down.
I have no heat issues, and great battery life with my Atrix, its only lack of bootloader access that is putting me off.
I had the Atrix before this phone.....I'm just saying the difference is like STONE to PILLOW. Literally... TouchWiz in camperason to Moto Blur is 10X better. Plus in less then a month this phone is probably going to have some awesome ROMs...true ROMs at that. Now if you use the laptop dock and other Atrix accessories all the time dont change its not worth the loss of $500+. Now Atrix fans might argue that it has dual cores... well the Atrix might have that, but its hardly noticeable. If you want a all around better phone the Infuse is the phone for you.

I agree with everyone and motorola and most reviewers agree. Atrix has the processor, but motorblur and the implementation of android on motorola just blows.

I hear ya, though it would be likely even touch wiz would go as I am yet to find a phone companies launcher that meets my needs. I must say though the new version of Motoblur in the upcoming GB update looks to be a huge improvement.
Things like notification power settings and custom kernels are attractive to me and frankly don't look like a reality on the Atrix any time soon (second init seems like a lot of mucking around).
Also 4.5 inches of OLED goodness is attractive.
I moved from the Atrix to the Infuse last weekend. I can honestly say I'm 100% happy and won't go back to the Atrix. I had done my research prior to swapping them out so the first thing I did was installed the 1.2 infused rom. This is EXACTLY what I was hoping to get out of a rom with the Atrix, but it just wasn't happening. In real world performance, you really can't tell that the processors are different. I'm a tech nerd so I figured "OMG I can't go back to a single core." I was wrong. I haven't found a single thing about the Infuse that I would want to be more like the Atrix.
TL/DR
Performance differences are non-existant in every day use. The screen is AMAZING to look at. I can't stop looking.
edit: to answer your questions
1. Quality feels solid. Lighter materials don't always mean lesser quality.
2. Battery life is fine. As long as you don't expect to stream pandora over 3g/4g for 12 hours on battery, the phone lasts all day.
3. Performance is even better than anticipated.
4. Infused ROM has been awesome.

It's. Amoled Plus. Love saying that, but it only starts there.
Why would you want a dualcore when you can have a single core that don't lag at all and doesn't drain your battery that much.
I even use this keyboard (picture below) so I don't need to stretch my thumbs to reach the middle keys lol

So, after dealing with the samsung captivate (until it broke) and using my backup phone (lg quantum) until my buttons are losing functionality, I decided it was time to upgrade. I was going to get the atrix at first, but then I read the forums and people were like, "hissssssssssss, Atrix!" so I went to the Inspire, which I planned on getting until the lady at the AT&T store told me I should only have to charge it twice a day.
Only.
So here I am again! purchasing a samsung device I swore I would never buy again. After reading some reviews and threads on this forum, I must say it seems like a fairly solid device! Can anybody give me any advice on what to expect when my new phone comes? What threads are really relevant to a new Infuse owner?
Thank you in advance, I always trust XDA!

I love my Infuse. 100000000% better than the Inspire. The battery is great however I ordered the extended battery and it's amazing with that. Solid device for sure. Only issue is the stock browser so I froze it and use Dolphin which is awesome and fixed the problem.

I have that same case in grey but I couldn't keep it on. The phone is just too beautiful and slim to cover up in a case that thick.
Sent from my Infuse running Serendipity VII beautifully.
hmm... see, I would like to not use the case, but also with my captivate the back of it would get scratched if I didn't have a case on it, and it looks like the same back cover as the captivate... hmmm.... but still, if it makes my phone look like an iphone I'll just not use it.
I wouldn't want to look like I forgot to get the bigger GB's.
It's really great to hear good stories about this phone. I usually use dolphin browser anyway, so meh. Is rooting/flashing the same process as the captivate? I would assume since they're pretty similar phones...
I agree it needs something to protect the camera lens but I am looking for something more slim. For now it stays in my pocket or in my hands.
Rooting processes differ slightly from what I understand but once you're rooted, loading custom ROMS is pretty much the same. I never had a captivate but I did have a n1 for a while. The only real difference is the number of ROMS available for the infuse so far.

Oh and in no way does this phone even resemble an iPhone... case or no case. The screen is the dead giveaway. LOL.

Gratz on the Infuse, ugh why that case >< You gotta get the Seidio Surface Case! Looks way sessier then any other case!
Make sure the first thing you do is root and add the Infused v2.1 ROM man, outside the box the phone kinda blows ><
Edit: And believe me their is nothing wrong with the Atrix! That phone is a beast for gaming, just everything looks so much better on this 4.5" Super AMOLED+ screen

*face/palm* if only I scrolled down before ordering! ahhh! at least the case will protect it. I mean I doubt my phone will still be as thick as an evo lol.
But yeah I heard the atrix had a ton of problems, plus the whole bootloader thing... meh, motorola lost me at after my RAZR.
So I'm going to put that Infused ROM on there the day after I get it. (or the same day, depending on how long I can stand being on stock.)
Does anybody use juicedefender with this phone? I could get a cool 2 days out of my cappy with that app running.
Yeah you gotta be crazy NOT to use Juice Defender.
This is what I get on average with Juice Defender.
Around x1.68 to x1.78
Seems most people who cry about the Atrix don't even really own one and those who do never really gave it a chance. Once you mod that phone up it's a monster. Oh well the Infuse is a beast w/ that 4.5" screen hands down.

I used Atrix, and returned it under 4 days. Once u r accustomed to the screen on Captivate, the only phone u can go ahead is Infuse (as of today). I tried Inspire and Atrix, and returned for battery and for screen and Insprire even had lots of dropped calls. Atrix was better on battery, but well, that's not the only thing that counts, esp when u have a charger at home, in car, and at work
one of the worst phone in the market!
If you're expecting a large improvement over the Captivate, prepare to be disappointed.
Otherwise it's a solid but unexceptional phone.

I did some testing, and despite TELLING me I was getting nearly double the battery life, I was actually getting worse than not having it at all.
Stock browser is complete crap compared to the one in infused rom. Stock browser lags bad, crashes and stutters viewing 480p youtube videos and stock rom will be laggy while scrolling though homepages. First thing to do when you get the phone is to flash infused 2.1.0 and infusion kernel overcklocked to 1.6ghz this phone will fly like crazy. Everything will be smooth as butter and with dozens of widgets and live wallpaper there will be no lag while moving thorough homepages. The browser will be super fast and have no lag at all and you will be able to play 1080p youtube videos without any lag. All games will have zero lag and no slowdowns. In particular i noticed on stock rom fast 5 game would stutter alot, but with infused rom it flies. This phone is much better than the crappy captivate i had half a year ago. The gps just works and tracks well. Wifi is a bit weaker than other phones, but still pretty good. The camera is one of the best out of smart phones. And finally that beautiful screen which will make everyone jealous.
Wait till you get in the car with friends and this thing flips on you. It was stormy weather few days ago and this thing decided not to lock, my buddy pulled out a 5 year old Samsung blackjack, got a 10s lock and we took off. 45 mins later, I got the lock.
If you install Copilot, your GPS will go bonkers. Unacceptable performance.

I have a SGS2 right now and it's the best phone I've ever owned but I'm BORED )
I know the sensation is slower in all aspects but have the issues like the wifi death grip, laggy software etc been resolved with custom roms?
Samsung may have the best hardware but HTC still makes the most exciting phones
You do what you want to do. Both phones have their pros and cons and you are aware of them.
I love my Sensation.
I'm thinking about switching from my Sensation to the SGS2 actually haha. Just waiting for it to come out on Tmobile. My sensation isn't bad but the SGS2 just seem like it has better build quality. Not sure will have to try the SGS2 first once it comes out.

Samsung's build quality is top notch, they just want it to be the lightest and slimmest phone hence the plastic. If you've toyed around with the sgs2 you'd be pretty amazed how they were able to make the whole thing.
What I do miss from HTC is the different amounts of roms available. With samsung you only get stock, CM is crap even with the old sgs.
Samsung generally makes devices which will work, but will break at the drop of a hat. Really depends what you class as build quality, Where as HTC generally makes devices which work (maybe not to the extent of samsung) but are very hard to damage and are easily modded. Really depends on what you want from a device to which suits you more.

Pare, I have toyed with SGS2, believe me, it is nowhere near the feel of the sensation in your hands. The sensation just feels solid and robust compared to the SGS2 which is too light and feels flimsy somehow and ugly. Grab a sensation and play with it and you will know what I mean. It's nice to have 16Gb of nternal memory though and 1Gb or ram with SGS2
Edit: The nice thing about the sensation design is that you can replace the whole back cover if you damaged it and it will be like brand new.
My bro owns a SGSII and I own a sensation...and HTC is a one way phone I believe..i mean you can come from SGSII to Sensation, but you will not be able to go back... try it dude....you will remember my words .... the slow sensation can be made faster enough by lots of ROM available on XDA itself.... by looks, by build quality... by UI...i always feel sensation is the BEST...
-----MY OPINION------
i must say i disagree with the above post (no offence) but stick with galaxy s2. all the htc sensation can offer you is htc sense apart from that there mostly identical, and also dont be drawn in with the qhd display, its fantastic none the less but it wont put a dent on the s2. i know this as i own both of them, and also be patient as someone's working on a port of htc sense for the galaxy s2 so im sure that will cure your boardness
Put it this way. If your going to do a straight swap, then go for it. But if you have to fork extra dough just to get the sensation, then just keep your SGS2 because it is probably not worth it.
I had the sgs2, I had it for 17 days and my friend lost it (long story), to be honest I am kinda glad they did lose it.
The sgs2 is a stupidly powerful phone true. But the build quality is bad, you always feel like it will snap in your pocket if you sit down, I think it's also too thin (i know people like it thin, but it feels awful in the hand).
It's personal preference but the HTC sensation feels awesome in the hand and it looks sexy. The screen on the HTC sensation is also just so nice. Granted the super Amoled + is pretty gorgeous too.
On the whole the galaxy is a lot faster, but as far as build quality, looks and feel in your hand you will not be disappointed with the sensation.
But yeah personal preference, both are great devices.
My previous phone was a iPhone4 and coming to the qHD screen made me so happy. Higher resolution is the real future.

i must say i disagree with the above post (no offence) but stick with galaxy s2. all the htc sensation can offer you is htc sense apart from that there mostly identical, and also dont be drawn in with the qhd display, its fantastic none the less but it wont put a dent on the s2. i know this as i own both of them, and also be patient as someone's working on a port of htc sense for the galaxy s2 so im sure that will cure your boardness

When compared with HTC SENSATION:
The only thing i would like to take from SGSII is its battery life
Else i like Sensation...i sold me prev sensation and had to buy another phone...i had a very good look at my bro's SGSII and eventually decided to get Sensation again...
Yes, display for SGSII is more brighter and colourful, but qHD display is even better in Sensation .....
I kinda wish i kept my EVO 3D... Still waiting for sgs2 to wow me.
I just need a better interface.. Touchwiz sucks compared to sense.

I see alot of broken evos and alot of broken charging ports and blown out speakers on evos from working at sprint I do see the occasional messed up epic but its mostly software issues. I know this about tmo but just letting you guys know what I see from manufacturers plus the evo 3d has its own issues as well but mostly software too
**** yea
Haha, both phones are currently the top dawgs in the Android world, but like everything in the tech world, the next big thing is already looming (Galaxy Note, for one)
Unlike a pc, how fast do you really need a phone to be? Will the yellow bird in angry birds accelerate any faster? will the FPS in Backstab or Need for Speed improve? Custom Sense Roms have eliminated all lag issues, and i personally have never experienced a grip of death, whether for wifi or phone signal.
But i get where youre coming from pare, the grass is always greener on the other side. Since I own a Sensation, i find myself curious about the SGS2.
If youre serious about a swap, just PM me, maybe we can work something out Looks like were both from Metro Manila anyway.

Samsung generally makes devices which will work, but will break at the drop of a hat. Really depends what you class as build quality, Where as HTC generally makes devices which work (maybe not to the extent of samsung) but are very hard to damage and are easily modded. Really depends on what you want from a device to which suits you more.

agreed 100%. Thats y i choose sensation. love it. lolz
I have a guy that is selling his Bionic for $200. If I could sell my Charge for $150 and fork the other $50 with it for the Bionic, would it be worth it? I only paid $10 for my Charge about a month ago. I really like the fact that it has dual cores and has a few ICS roms out for it. I got to play around with ICS on my old Epic 4G before I sold it, and all I can say is WOW! I definitely want ICS now.

I'd say so, the screen is a definite downgrade but everything else is superior IMO. Best upgrade is probably the RAM. I guess the only other downsides are that it's a motorola phone and i heard it has trouble staying connected to 4g, like the Charge used too. But I heard that when the phone was released, who knows how it's doing now...
I would take that in an instant given the bionic is in good condition. Sure the screen sucks but it is more visible outside. Also I would expect it to have better connectivity than the Charge because it is a moto phone. The battery is a bunch bigger too, and can't forget the dual core.
Plus with the RAM you get it would have real multitasking.

Exactly, the screen isn't enough of a trade off to turn me away from the Bionic. I mean the screen isn't bad but compared to the Samoled+ with voodoo screen tuning it doesn't come close. Still, with the extra RAM the multi tasking is what really intrigues me. That's one thing this phone always sucked at and always will.
The Bionic was EOL'd before the Charge, if that means anything. Personally, I'd keep the Charge, but I don't like Moto phones, or their practices.

I figured lol.. You are the biggest proponent of Samsung phones I have seen on here. But then again you dev for fascinate charge strat and nexus
I'm pretty certain the Bionic has not hit EOL. The Droid 3 did, but the Bionic is still sold new and likely will be for a while as it's on the official ICS upgrade list for later this year.
Yeah, Bionic is on Moto's list for ICS...but that is a moot point considering CM9 is already out and pretty darn stable on it. I'm really not a fan of Motorola as a company either, but I REALLY want ICS lol. It's about twice the upgrade that Gingerbread was from Froyo.
Agree with above

Screen on the bionic straight up sucks! So does the camera. Also feels very cheaply made. If multi-tasking is extremely important and need the extra core, then ya maybe. I don't know about everyone else but I gotta have a superior screen and sound.
Why not try to pick up a Rezound? Gotta be better that the Moto phones. They have leaked ICS, with some kernel issues, but it works well overall. They might be geting S-Off soon as well, which could pave the way to ASOP and CM9.

One thing I will say that absolutely drives me insane about Samsung phones is their stock camera. Don't get me wrong, it takes great quality photos and is extremely smooth to use, but here is the problem. Take a picture in portrait orientation. Now try to share it through a messaging application other than stock, or copy the file to your computer then open it. It will show up 90° counter clockwise. This drives me bonkers that Samsung can't get this right. Sure, I have a different camera app called vignette that saves it correctly, but it is a lot slower than the stock camera.
The dual cores and ram is nice on the Bionic but overall I like the screen and interface of the Charge better. For even more Charge fun fllash it with the Tweaked v2.0 rom. Runs just as good as a dual core phone in my humble opinion. Plus in the past I have had nothing but problems with moto android phones.

Just because it's getting an update doesn't mean the device isn't EOL. The Bionic was dead in the water as soon as the RAZR came out. While the Galaxy Nexus is the next in line for the Charge, there still hasn't been a real "upgrade" for it since the Nexus is stock Android and the Charge isn't. Rezound would be the replacement for the Thunderbolt, and Lucid the replacement for the Revolution, so the Charge is the only device that hasn't been fully replaced yet in VZW's lineup.

Wasn't Verizon not getting the gs2 because the nexus was supposed to replace it?

The Charge hates your wife.
I broke my first Charge's screen and ended up using a demo Bionic that I had on hand. I used the Bionic for about a month and I couldn't get over how crappy the display was compared to the Charge. Since I look at the display 100% of the time that I use my phone, having the better display was preferable. Needless to say, I bought a refurb'd Charge for $250 and returned the demo Bionic.
