Will current docks work with transformer prime? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is asus making a new dock for prime? If they are will the current one still work?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium

Looking at the dimension (thickness) of the TP, IMO it will not work.

There definitely is a new Prime dock. Nobody but ASUS knows for sure yet if the TF101 dock will work with the Prime, but smart money is betting that they're not compatible.

Nope

Although I Don't have TF... yet....I do recall reading when the TF1 first came out they did an interview or asked Asus the question and they said that the Dock is future proof and will be compatible with future TF products
http://www.anandtech.com/Show/Index...0&page=9&slug=asus-eee-pad-transformer-review
"...ASUS tells me that the Transformer dock will be compatible with all Transformer branded tablets in the future."
Make of it what you will

The Verge or Engadget (can't remember which) said due to dimensions, the dock won't be backwards compatible

There was a review in a Brazilian blog today which definitely said that the current dock would not work on the Prime. I don't expect items to be future proof, but I am a bit upset at Asus since they definitely said the old dock would work with newer models. I've pretty much decided to see what Windows 8 brings to tablets, Android tablets have been a bit of a let down so far.

I don't agree that ASUS "definitely said" the TF101 dock would work with future devices. In fact, I'd love to see a link where they said that. The most I can remember is one reviewer saying that someone at ASUS told them this, but I've never seen that verified anywhere else.

i've read it (french news site), its definitely not compatible..

So the new Tf is not compatable with the old dock?

It is NOT compatible.

Is it micro or mini hdmi the prime has? I just bought a mini hdmi to hdmi cable for my tf1, I'll be mad if they changed it to micro in the prime. But again I guess I can just buy an adapter then.

How is it hearsay. You clearly don't know Anand's reputation in the tech world. It's clear in this case ASUS clearly lied to him.
AnandTech is the site that mainstream tech media like Engadget and Verge and BGR quote to explain technology beyond their understanding.
I don't know how much clearer you want than "ASUS tells me that the Transformer dock will be compatible with all Transformer branded tablets in the future."
There's not a hint of uncertainty or hearsay.

It is indeed hearsay. Anand had no proof or commitment to the statement from Asus. The definition of the word hearsay is quite simple.

Here's the definition of hearsay (from dictionary.com):
1. unverified, unofficial information gained or acquired from another and not part of one's direct knowledge: I pay no attention to hearsay.
2. an item of idle or unverified information or gossip; rumor: a malicious hearsay.
So, yes, AnandTech stating that some unidentified person at ASUS said the dock would be compatible with future versions is the very definition of hearsay. ASUS themselves making the statement that the dock would be compatible would NOT be hearsay.

Oh my gawd! Best news I heard in a long time..
Just imagine... in 2009 we will perhaps see a HTC phone that actually performs to its specifications instead of being doggedly slow and crippled!
If I read it right, at least, Tegra platform will have it's own ARM chips, so that would mean MSM is out... No more Qualcomm. Best news ever.
EDIT: At least, this is assuming HTC doesn't order a crippled version like we know we they did before
sweeeeet
Brilliant news, hopefully this means some killer devices this year.
Just hope nvidia dont do a Qualcomm and ask for money for drivers
Best NEWS for HTC in a long time!!! The sooner a htc device with it the better!
I hope that it won't have those drivers issue that 5500 suffered from.

And sure enough people:
Multiple designs underway
Fifteen leading manufacturers are now developing more than 30 Snapdragon-powered devices, the first of which should reach the market in the first half of 2009. The growing list of Snapdragon customers includes leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs) such as Acer, ASUS, C-motech, Compal, Foxconn, HTC, Inventec, LG Electronics, Quanta Computer, Samsung, Toshiba and Wistron.

Yeah, 'cause Qualcomm's track record for making awesome chips just speaks for itself. Who wouldn't expect snapdragon to be all that the specs say?
* finds a wall to hit his head against
That is offensive. For those who have ainkling about how Q lied to us the consumers, I don't think they'll be awfully happy.
Hope they fit the hardware to WM7 somehow and to have WiMax going.. cause i don't feel like buying 2 devices
btw, Nvidia ROCKS.

yea it definately does i am looking forward to this bump qualcom
Sorry to disappoint you, but it's possible that a Qualcomm baseband will remain in HTC smart phones in 2009. I haven't found a decent Tegra specification where this would be clearly indicated, however it looks like there's no integrated radio baseband. This is not a big surprise, as NVidia is not a major player in mobile radios market.
HTC was/is using Qualcomm basebands with many of their devices (for example based on Samsung SC3xxx). OMAP platform features an integrated baseband though.
Does anyone know for a fact what RF features Tegra chips natively support (apart from Wi-Fi and BT)?
Nope, but Qualcomm's radios aren't that bad IMHO. They're used all over the place in mobiles. I have no problem with reception, call quality, wireless connectivity or any of that. One of the few things they can actually do is RF. It's all the other stuff they fail at.
I'd be happy with Tegra SOC + Qualcomm RF! Perhaps I'd be even happier with Omap3 still, though that remains to be seen.

Asus Transformer Prime, Penta-Core ICS Tablet

Asus Transformer 2 (Prime) was just confirmed an hour ago, didn't see any posts about it in General so decided to throw one up myself.
Comes with Nvidia's Quad-core, or Penta-core depending on how you look at it, processor, most likely Ice Cream Sandwich if not Honeycomb with an upgrade by the end of the year. It's also thinner than both the Ipad 2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 at only 8.3mm with a Micro-SD card slot and Mini-HDMI excluding the ports that will eventually come on the keyboard dock.
Can't post links since I don't have eight posts yet, so if you want to find more info just google Transformer Prime and I'm sure you'll get a lot more information.
kal-el chips, finally!
this thing is a bit too shiny, but i can ignore that for how epicly thin it looks, the raw power, and how great its going to be to use (taken from the transformer 1)
always wanted a transformer, maybe i can obtain one of these.

The Tegra 3 chip uses four 1.5GHz Cortex-A9 cores, in addition to another Cortex-A9 made on a low-power process, that runs at 500MHz. When the tablet is doing mundane things like checking emails, it drops onto the low-power core to save power.
It is logically a quad-core chip, but it will switch to a single low-power core whenever possible to save power.
Put windows 8 on it and I'll buy 10

No, if I buy a tablet I want a full desktop, or at least laptop experience out of it. Someone brings up the topic of a brand new Android tablet, and your response is "if it had [my favorite software-maker's OS] on it, I'd buy 10." How, exactly, is that a compliment?
Oh, right, 'cause you're a troll!
That statement was actually in relation to the razr thread, however the hardware of this looks outstanding and I'd love to see it run a desktop OS. Asus announced some new 2012 windows 8 tablets though and I'm sure at least one will use a similar chassis so no worries. If I own a tablet computer I want it to be a small computer, not a big phone.

Oh, well gosh darn. I assumed you were talking about, you know, the topic of this thread—and not some random, unrelated phone. Silly me.
Well, I suppose I missed the line about domestic abuse in the original post. Please sir, practice what you preach. Do not knock a thread off topic and then proceed to insult someone else for doing so. While we're on such a kick, please do not insult my English, I am not originally from an English speaking nation. However, looking at your posts, I could provide you with tutoring. There is no reason to turn every thread that I post in to a jumbled mess, your insistence on doing so is based on a ban you received that was not by my report.
As far as the tablet goes, it's outstanding hardware, I just don't see any current mobile OS replacing my laptop. Android is, however, getting closer and closer. Build a decent version of WINE on there and I may just pick one up.

This isn't a topic about whether or not tablets are technologically equivalent at handling the tasks of a laptop, as we could all agree they are not. (Again, I'm the one being off topic?) But I certainly agree with you. I'd like tablets to be more like laptops than phones, but (back to on topic...) the introduction of quad-core chips in tablets is certainly the right direction for accomplishing this.
To be quite honest, I don't see the core count as anything outstanding. I mean the only issue we really have with tossing these into phones is size constraints. Tablets get much larger. What's really going to matter is how they make use of such power. Without some crysis quality games, what is the point in all those cores?
lmao I've never seen a thread derailed so quickly.
You guys are badass. Keep it up!!

Motorola's cavalier attitude will have them banned in the U.S. Does anyone even care?

http://m.engadget.com/default/artic...microsoft-patent/&category=classic&postPage=1
Unlike apple, Microsoft gave them plenty of chances. Only Motorola can be blamed, not like they were releasing anything revolutionary anyway.
Meh...w/ that said, the Razr (thinnest) and Razr MAXX (longest battery life) aren't revolutionary to you? Minus the locked BL's I still say the Maxx is one of, if not the best phone out currently overall.
I don't find either advance to be a game changer, now if they made a small battery with that much charge or a thin phone that retained durability I'd understand.
What's Motorola?
I don't see that lasting long. Google going to lay some smack down on Microsoft with it's new patient portfolio.

Motorola will most likely be singing a different tune once Google flexes the "we own you" muscle a little bit.
In this day and age, I just can't understand a company who doesn't embrace the open spirit of Android development. Developers can help a company so very much if that company will open it's eyes and stop thinking "only" with it's bottom line.
Obviously they'll work it out. Too many $$'s at risk.
These kind of things don't make sense to me. It is so stupid. So if Microsoft wins, then Motorolla will just change 1 small thing in their new phones and move on with life...

I actually had to watch that video to learn about it. Motorola DROID line up doesn't get much play on this side of the world. Still waiting for the fantastic Razr Maxx. By time it gets here, if it gets here, it won't seem so spectacular versus the One X and upcoming GS3. Which is a shame.
Back to topic, I'm sure something will be fleshed out, MS deals more than Apple and with that whole Motorola Xbox ban thing I'm sure MS has some motivation.
I do'nt care, by the way, who cares?

Apple-Samsung Court Case

Looks like our beloved Charge was mentioned as a witness in this case:
http://www.technobuffalo.com/companies/apple/apple-samsung-trial-verdict/
- rubber band patent
- 915 patent (scrolling with one finger)
- 163 patent (double tap to zoom and center content)
- iphone trade dress (Charge was not in violation of this)
what this could mean for the future for the Charge? who knows?
good side: perhaps a software update to the latest OS with valid patents
bad side: a software update reverting these violations
neutral: nothing....
Here's a interesting write up about some sketchiness among the jury and the decision. In this light, it seems almost certain that at appeal is coming, if not outright dismissals on at least some of the violations under a Rule 50(b). With this much alleged impropriety, they may even be able to get a stay on the decision.
I doubt Apple is overly concerned with a low sale volume device like the Charge in the grand scheme of things. I imagine that the most that might happen is stopping production.

sales ban
Cnet is reporting that Apple is requesting a ban on sales of the Charge (amongst other phones) in the US.
With appeals and other legal manuvering I have no idea whether this will really happen, but I wonder what it means for customers that have these phones... What would happen if you need a replacement from VZ?
It would be great if they just make them stock android devices with 4.1.1 like the nexus S...The resale value would double lol.
i would not be surprised to see VZW offer us a deep discount on upgrading to another device. probably something like $100 off the 2-year contract price of another device even if you have time left on your current contract. which is really nothing new, but it could easily persuade most out of the charge...

tldr but I'd like to know a summary
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
First article is showing how the only device that the judge felt confident in granting a sales injunction for was one of the few devices that didn't get any judgement against it. Literally, the only device the judge thought was a slam dunk got off clean, and others that she considered to be weak cases got slammed by the jury, which when taken with the earlier reports of procedural errors and bias points further toward an incompetent or biased jury. The second article compares this case to previous attempts by Oracle, SCO, and Microsoft attempting (and failing) to shut down other FOSS projects due to fear, and speculates (with good reasoning) that this could very well be a test case for patent reform that makes it all the way to SCOTUS.
This is just getting worse and worse. The jury foreman in an interview said that he determined that prior art didn't apply because "The software on the Apple side could not be placed into the processor on the prior art and vice versa. That means they are not interchangeable. That changed everything right there." Great logic, except that interchangeability isn't part of the definition of prior art. I can just be words on a piece of paper with no actual implementation whatsoever and still be prior art, yet he managed to convince the rest of the jury using that logic. Keep in mind that this is the same guy who has a patent and admitted that was thinking of this case in terms of defending his own patent.

Every time that guy opens his mouth, he strengthens Samsung's appeal and/or Rule 50(b) filing.

My review of the TF700 and its usability as a Laptop replacement.

I love my TF700 and have customized it so that it perfectly serves my productivity needs. Read here if you are on the fence about replaing your laptop, buying the TF700 or want to see how I get the most out of mine (ROM, Apps, Case).
Edit: Some people are suspicious that I'm sending traffic to my site. I honestly just like having the ability to design and arrange my pictures and writing. I tried posting the whole review into this post and XDA said that my edit had been flagged. Probably because I have a bunch of links to stuff (like the case and such) and am a junior member. Anyway, I don't make any money off of my site, I just like sharing. Sorry if I've offended anyone.

I find it a little suspicious that you are trying to drive everyone to your website instead of posting your review here.
Nice review, and really nice case.
Sorry.

Sorry, that's not my intention. I like having all the pictures and don't know how to host them on the forum or arrange them in a post. I don't make any money off the site I just share stuff there. If this is not cool for the forum rules I'd be happy to take the link down and try to move it over into a post.

I don't see a need for any apology my friend.
Welcome to the TF700T forums!
Stay awhile!
* BB code is here if you haven't found that already.
This is actually nice thread. I don't use Office stuff often but it's nice to have Polaris preinstalled. I work mainly with Latex, so what I need for productivity is DroidEdit and RefMaster. Well, probably it's kinda "not for everyone" thing.

As Thats OK, I bid you welcome to our forums -- lthough I've seen more posts from your hand already.
Linking to external stuff is not exactly new on XDA -- we have TechxZero in here with his external reviews on CROMI and other stuff, while on the SGS2 forums every self-conscious ROM seems to have its own external website. You'll have to visit there to see the changelog, otherwise you wouldn't even know what you'd be flashing on your phone. Luckily, the relevant website would be the only place to get to the download link anyway.
I understand Bonez' point of view as well, for more often than not the aim is indeed to make money off of a visitor's presence, but you solved it nicely. Next time mention the external character in your post beforehand, and just state that it's a no-revenue site. You should be fine.
Now, I'm off to read up a bit.
One under-emphasised aspect of the PC replacement ability of the Infinity is remote desktop apps. Chances are you also have a PC or Windows laptop somewhere. On top of the native productivity apps, you can get some real horsepower w/ a remote desktop session.
Jump Desktop is the best of the best from my extensive testing. Splashtop is probably second. I use both to connect to my home Windows 7 laptop and my Enterprise Win 7 desktops at work. Throw in a wireless mouse and you are definitely set up for leaving Windows at home...
Full screen apps round out the effect by using all of the screen real estate

Nicely done man. Thanks.
Really nice Case...
Mind telling where you got it?...
thank you for your good review. I use it often as a desktop replacement when I'm on train and I don't want to use my laptop. :good:

Totally agree. I should have mentioned that one of the most used buttons on my home screen is splashtop. I haven't tried jump. will have to take a look.

Of course! I got it from this woman's Etsy store: http://www.etsy.com/listing/113138846/ipad-mini-leather-case-ipad-mini-wool?
Just contact her through etsy and specify that you'd like the wool sleeve made for the TF700 with keyboard dock .. a custom job she did for me already. She doesn't charge extra for custom jobs only needs the dimensions, but because she already made one for me she probably still has the measurements. If not I could try and dig up the measurements I sent her.

Couldn't agree more about Jump Desktop and a wireless mouse. Actually, I prefer a bluetooth mouse over a 2.4Ghz wireless mouse as there is no dongle needed for bluetooth.
Combine that with the keyboard dock, an Android phone and a tethering option and you have the best of all worlds! Can be productive anywhere, anytime!
Also, co-worker of mine gave me a Microsoft Arc mouse, which is really slick - it "folds" flat, so I slide that in my slip case (which I use to transport my TF700+dock) - if I'm not my my desk (where I have a bluetooth mouse), I can use the Microsoft Arc mouse - ultimate portability!
