Is the S2 Skyrocket coming to the UK does anyone know? I cant find much on the itnernet other than its from AT&T which is american.
Im debating if I should cancle the Galaxy Nexus order and get the S2 Skyrocket if its coming.
If its not, then is there anything that rivals the Nexus in the UK thats coming in the next few weeks or already out?
Reading coments in this forum are starting to put me off the Nexus.

The SGSII Skyrocket is literally just the SGSII but with an LTE radio for AT&T. You don't have LTE in the UK so it doesn't do you much good
Get the Nexus lol.

Yeah, they don't have an Exynos that plays nice with LTE it seems.
But for all intents and purposes its a SGSII with an LTE chip. There's no other features.

Yes sorry. Its 4.5" vs 4.3". I forgot that AT&T and the International versions are 4.3" because the Sprint and T-mobile versions are 4.5".
One more thing on the processor is that it is more than likely clocked at 1.5ghz to make up for the fact that its not Exynos. Its probably about the same speed overall as the 1.2ghz Exynos in the original SGSII.

Im not sure if it will have a tegra3 onboard though as its made on 40nm. The latest qualcomm chip just announced seems much faster and would make a better choice.

Purely on the new screen resolution I would go for the Nexus as WVGA will soon be outdated.

The only thing thats putting me off is people saying its got outdated hardware like teh GPU ect.
For almost £150 cheaper is the S2 not better as I can have it now, its going to get android 4, screen isnt far behind but then it excels on graphics, cpu and micro sd. ?
Is the Rogers Wireless LTE the same as the AT&T?

+1 Wait for the Nexus Prime better screen resolution Depending on your SGS2 variety it goes from 208ppi-256ppi vs the Nexus 316ppi that in itself makes me wait. Unless your gaming not sure any additional value the quad core provides.

Yup and the Vivid is the Raider... "America, what works for the world doesn't work for us"- Motto of american cell phone companies when asked on why they have such weird names
.
Thread moved to Q&A due to it being a question. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.

I kinda like the name Nexus
I recommend the Google Nexus to have Google Android updates

LOL, i'm sure he meant porting the software over our vibes and then installing a compatible 4G modem just as we've installed a i9000 cam.
I'm just curious of the cam part, if it's an actual i9000 cam or something different. If the hardware is different, then i'd find out where it came from and what not's. I've also heard that rumor has it, the handset used in the MWC, they tested the banding issues and it has NONE, whatsoever. But... It's a rumor. No credibility.
Check out anandtech for the preliminary galaxy s2 benchmarks. For some reason the tegra 2 gpu and cpu wise score higher...
Maybe the drivers just are finalized.

No word yet on whether it will be released to the US or not.
As for being to be with TMO, no word. BUT, i did find out that the international version that will come out on 3rd Qrtr of this year in Europe IS compatible to the AT&T and Canada Bell's Band. Someone from AT&T can just purchase these baby and stick their sim's in, and BAM. They can use it right out of the box.
But i'm not about to switch to AT&T, well, not yet at least. LOL

It is not necessarily a hardware issue, a lot of phone out there are going to be converted via software only, and I suspect the Vibrant is one of those. Either way I am waiting for the S2......... my point is that taking the modem software from 850 mhz to 700 mhz or 2100 to 2200mhz does not require new hardware..........
just software
for about 40 bucks we can have the exact same phone... wow so much of a change (sarcasm). would like to see 4g though and i wonder if the back would fit on our phones cus i want to get one
I will be getting a sgs4g on release day due to my girlfriend wanting my vibrant... so I am adding a line for her getting the sgs4g and giving here my vibrant (its what she wants lol) so by the time the sgs2 comes out i will have an upgrade on my line. everyone wins.

So, since this is basically a larger, overclocked Captivate with a better camera, do you guys think it'd be possible to port something from it?
I probably am completely off the mark here, but if they improved the GPS software, it could be useful.

I'm wondering the same thing. It's confusing where this device will be supported (hopefully a mod can post a thread for the device if necessary).
Possibly, but man 200 is too much for that phone. Its only marginally better than the Captivate. They should be introducing the Galaxy S2. I would hold out for that rather then jump on this phone. This phone will phase out our beloved Captivate.

No. The infuse is a phone being released may 15th sporting a 1200mhz processor (dunno if its just an oc version of ours), a ff camera, a 8mp back camera and a larger/nicer/sharper screen.
The galaxy s2 is a dual core beast that just dropped in europe and has been submitted to the fcc with att bands, so it'll be out by the end of this year/early next

Same processor, according to the specs on GSMArena. Not that much improvement over the Cappy.
Another thing I'm wondering is regarding the battery life of this phone. I suppose they'll place a larger battery but an extra 1/2 inch of screen is a lot.

well the drawback of the cappy is the lack of a camera flash. though the cammera does way better in low light than many phones out there, a flash is nice for the close range shots in near total darkness. like in a club or something. also gsm arena and others are frequently wrong. one of those sites was saying that the i9010 armani had a front facing camera, they basically borrowed the spec sheet from the i9000 assuming it was the same in but in a captivate form factor. right now all the sites are woring off rumors and assuptions. not official specifications
the best assumption is that the processor is at minimum the same series because the orrigonal ad from janurary has the word hummingbird in it. but that doesnt mean the same part number or specifications or that the add from janurary even reflects the actual features. at that time the form of the phone wasnt even final, the battery door hadn't been finalized. then the back of the phone was smooth and now it is textured and looks like the sgs2 but bigger. it is posible specs have changed and maybe why the samsung site and att use the words "powerful 1.2 ghz application processor" without a name or series or description beyond that.
there are also alternatives to the galaxy s coming out with the qualcom scorpion/snapdragon chips clocked at 1.4 ghz(they need to be that fast to get the 3d graphics up to par with our chip because the adreno 205 is not quite as fast as the powervr sgx540 wth open gl). these phones will have 1080p recording and playback, similar or marginally faster 3d graphics and way faster cpu. there will be the galaxy s plus and the galaxy s 2 mini running on this chip (supposedly) so there is even a chance that the infuse will have a qualcom chip of some kind. it should get announces very soon officially. a rumor was there is a conference in nyc with samsung and att today presumably to unveil it with updated/officail specs

Anyone heard what the chipset is on the Vivid yet? While the 1.5 GHz Exynos is appealing; I don't think I can take it being on a Samsung phone anymore. I'm thinking I'd rather have the 1.2 GHz Vivid so I can jump to HTC.
Dude it's not worth upgrading to either of those phones right now. Your best bet is to stick to this Galaxy S II, and wait for the Galaxy S III in February. Do remember that the first LTE phones will most likely have bad battery life.

I'm in very much the same boat as you; although the mod community can make the Captivate better than crap, one's got to admit that staying on Samsung stock would be 100% unbearable.

If upgrading right now, why get the SGSII instead of a Skyrocket or Vivid?
I'm debating which as well. I'm just worried about the SGSII dev support being split between the two (if hardware is different) or there not being much dev support over with the Vivid.
For myself, my phone is a benefit from my work. Which means I should probably stay on the stock ROM since they are paying for it. Not only that, but if something goes wrong during a flash and I mess up my phone I'll be in some trouble at work. Since that leaves me on Samsung's horrible upgrade cycle I'm very inclined to jump ship.
Even though these are new LTE phones for ATT I still believe it's worth it to consider them over the non LTE SGSII. If I'm going to be stuck with a phone for 2 years I would rather have LTE. Since I live in a LTE market it's even more of a draw. If anything, considering the HTC just to get away from Samsung.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to wait a month and see what the reviews are from other XDA members. If the battery life is completely horrible maybe just wait it out. Also my wife is due an update in December. If I do jump and don't like it I could always hand her down whatever I get and pick up something new when we renew her contract.

one thing is for sure
ATT customers are going to be so freaking confused with all the different models of Galaxy S2 available in store and online
I wish Samsung would spend more time taking care of it's current customers by pushing ICS. I know it's about making money but seriously, it's current customer base needs to be happy too. Three Galaxy S models on AT&T. That's just retarded and seems like overkill.
ATT gets so much love from smartphone manufacturers and they are the absolute WORST carrier EVER! EVER! When I was switching carriers I had them for less than a week and it was the worst experience I've had owning a phone since I was on Metro PCS many, many moons ago.
I had an average of 3 dropped calls per day, and they completely f*cked up my very first bill. Overcharging me for crap I did not order. Three phone calls and three visits to the ATT store and they still could not get it right. The third trip was to return everything and tell them where they can stick it, and they are STILL trying to charge me for a month's use when I didn't even have the phone 5 days.
I don't understand why they get so many good phones. It's irritating!
Damn, if I had AT&T and was one of the people to get the first SGS2 I would be BEYOND mad. You buy the latest and greatest for it to be at least relevant for 5-6 months before something else comes out, main reason why I sold my sensation once the Amaze was announced.
i wonder how many people Samsung and Motorola just pissed off with these devices....i mean seriously....Droid Razr Maxx??? Razr just frickin released...although another Skyrocket device should mean another phone where we can use their development, correct?
and yea, the skyrocket is a nice device (and the new one) but id honestly love a device with the Exynos, so if it were me, id probably get the first version

Personally, the Snapdragon has left a sour taste. Maybe its TouchWiz's fault. Thankfully the SkyRocket, the HD and the Note are all Snapdragon - pushing more pixels with the same CPU = good luck with that. Ergo, not that disappointed.

the good thing is all these phones are the same with only a few minor differences....but these are differences that rooting solves! like how we can overclock, but when Samsung does it, its a new device! lol! we just need some CM9 love and all this will be irrelevant, as we will be having the latest and greatest SOFTWARE (more important!!!) Dual-Core is really unnecessary until ICS
oh yea, and Quad core??? why the hell do we need that many?? I dont see how playing hardcore games on a phone is better than playing on a gaming console with a controller? How much faster can these phones get?? lol

Have you tried Dead Space? T_T omg how can a game that looks THAT good be on a phone seriously?? Yeah 2 cores seem plenty sufficient; the PS vita (shoot I should look up the specs) has 512mb RAM afterall!
Anyone here grabbing the s3? If so why and will there be a strong dev following like the gs2?

Man, been asking myself same question, Skyrocketing is nice but if price is right I might jump to S3. I think Dec support will be hot for S3 too.

Think I might too. I have to buy it outright but the price doesn't seem too bad. If I like it, I'll sell my rocket.

Most likely... I had my phone up against a one x and it felt out dated. So I will as soon as its put on the shelf
Android 4.0.4 AOKP
What are the benefits to justify additional cost?
1) Slightly better processor?
- One in SGS2 is good enought for my use
2) Better display: Its a better display, but does not justify extra cost.
3) S Voice: One of the devs has already made it available on S2
For me this is same as iPad2 Vs iPad3. Just skip the update for now. SGS2 is good enought unless you like to throw money away.

2 gb of ram, processor, and the fact that it will likely get official jelly bean in 2015.
I think it'll be my next phone as the wife's captivate slide kinda sucks (still stock) so I'll give her my skyrocket and I'll get the s3...

solid improvement in processor
double the ram (it has 2gb RAM in the North American versions)
better display and res
svoice is a gimmick agreed
samsung beam using wifi direct
better camera
bigger (better) battery
its not a blow your mind upgrade, but a good one none the less
not for everyone though

I agree S3 is way to go if you are due an upgrade. But it makes no sense for folks on S2 to upgrade IMO.

I read that the US versions have 2gb ram to go with dual core1.5ghz chips instead of the quad core 1.4ghz chips in non US phones

If we start seeing large improvements in battery life with Samsung's second foray into an LTE equipped phone for North American carriers I will buy it outright.
Also since the hardware will be identical (or nearly identical with the exception of cellular radio afaik) between all of the US carriers, rom development should increase to a level to compete with dev. on the international variant of the device (GT-i9300).
Dev. fragmentation with the endless amounts of variants of the SGS2 hits close to home for North American users with completely different phones on Sprint (Epic Touch 4G), AT&T (i777), AT&T/ T-Mobile (I727/T989). Where the international version (GT-i9100) has the support of devs. from around the globe.
Or we will be in the same boat with no paddles, again.

I just recently got my Skyrocket (broke my original Galaxy S and they sent me the SR as the replacement) so even though I have an upgrade available, I don't see me getting the S3 until the price drops a good bit. But by then, they're might be another phone out there for us with better technology (A15 quad core LTE would be nice lol), so who knows.
Maybe it's because I just got the Skyrocket, and it seems like a huge upgrade from my Captivate so I'm not tired of it yet, but the AT&T version of the S3 just doesn't seem like enough of an upgrade to abandon the SR at the moment.

thats still only 2 different devices. one covers canadas major 3 networks and at&t...
instead of just at&t and rogers, vs T-Mobile and Telus
and aren't T-mobile and telus the same? why would they have 2 different devices. thats like having different devices for At&t and Rogers.

Wikipedia doesn't mean it's fact, so there could be an error there.

Ha, I just asked this question about dev support, I'm wondering same thing about support, this i727 is getting boring already. The HTC crowd seems to get mad love

I am currently undecided as of yet. Not up for an upgrade for a while yet anyway... hadn't been long getting my skyrocket which is the best phone I've owned to date...

That's my logic. I have 3 phones on my plan, so I almost always have a line eligible for an upgrade when a solid phone comes out. I just preordered the GS3, so my Skyrocket will go to the gf and her Captivate will go to my son. Works very well that way.
Pre ordered my 2nd gs3, I can't wait!!!!. 200 for both phones together

I get good battery life with SGS2 and I don't even have enhanced battery. Try any GB ROM thats close to stock and battery life is great. I easily get 1.5 days with medium use (15-20) calls, 7-8 FB sessions, 4-5 messages and 10 minutes browser
After reading all the information on SGS3 I am skipping the update. If I have a friend asking for advice, I would say get SGS2 from ebay for 340 rather than pay 600 for SGS3. Its not worth the extra money.
