Gold Card problems [solved] - HTC Desire S

I use gold card tool, do everything right, tool says that card is patched... Than I try to install 2.3.5 official Rom for Europe (my phone is for Asian market), but I get an error, it says that i dont have good CID, or something like that?? Please help

The goldcard did not work. Make it again and make sure the card is 2GB or smaller.

I tried few times, but nothing happened... I forgot to say that my phone isnt branded, it is just bought in Asia, but i use it in Europe... Maybe that matters... Card is smaller than 2 gb.

Try to make the Gold Card again.
Here's how I made the GoldCard and upgraded my T-MOB branded DS using the European RUU (I use it in Greece).
1. Used a 2GB SD card (from an old BBerry I have), inserted it in the DS and then went to "Settings" --> "SD Card & Phone Storage" --> "Unmount SD Card" and then "Erase SD Card".
2. right click and "run as admin" to launch the GoldCard tool (windows executable that can be found in many topics in xda & I'm attaching it here too).
3. connect your phone to your pc usb port and make sure that it is in "charge only" and you have "usb debugging" enabled.
4. On the GoldCard tool click on "get CID" and if it does not work for mmc1 try mmc1 or use the "Gold Card Helper" from Market to get the mmc2 CID as I did.
5. Open the link mentioned in Gold Card Tool to go to RevSkills site and paste the MMC reverse CID, select android goldcard type, and you can download your goldcard image file.
6. Change your phone to "USB Mass storage" and click refresh in Gold Card Tool until you see the drive letter assigned to the SD Card of your phone.
7. Select now "Format MMC" to format your card, then click Load GoldCard.img & browse to the image file you downloaded in step #5.
8. Select "Patch MMC" and once it's done, you have a GoldCard!
After that you can start the RUU update process!

Thank you for detailed answer, bud i did the same thing:/ I am not home right now, but when i get home, i will follow your instructions, and try again. I will let you know if i make it work Thanks for help.
Maybe the problem is that I dont use two sd cards? I mean I use emty one, I dont have any files on it, but I dont have the second... Do I need to use two cards?

No, it's not necessary. I just used another card because on my primary I have lots of files, images, music etc. and I also had the backup of my apps and didn't want to mess with it.
But generally in almost all directions that I found on the net, the use of a 2GB maximum SD card was suggested. I don't know if that may be the issue in your case (I assume that your DS also has an 8GB SD card like mine).

I solved the problem... The CID I was getting from gold card tool on PC was wrong! Actualy, I downloaded golden card helper from market, and that app read two CID-s from my card. One was the same like the one I got with PC app, and the other one was different! I tried with that different, and everything worked. Thanks for help!

Hi.
I tried to use the Gold Card for my Sensation XL but ended up with a mobile cannot mount the internal sd card. Any idea how to undo?
Thanks.

I have a branded vodafone DS, CID VODAPD18 (Vodafone Portugal).
SW 2.10.168.3, S-On, unlocked, unrooted.
Can i run rru "RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.9_Radio_20.4801.30 . 0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_234765_signed" with a goldcard?
Won't brick my phone? What about possible future OTA / RUU updates (ie ICS, present version with bugs) ? only with goldcard? And it includes PTG language?
CID / supercid inly with root, right?
please advise.
Thx

Rogers Mandatory Manual Update

First of all, this is only for those of you having trouble with the automatic "update" process, or just simply don't want to deal with it. My experience was that Rogers wouldn't budge on the enabling data/voice for me over the phone, and I wasn't going to just divulge that I freely modified the stock software.
That being said, I worded it such that it seemed like it was an error inherent to RUU and the tech gave me files and a process to manually wipe the phone clean and place the new stock Rogers HTC Magic radio/spl/rom/etc on the phone.
The following was the body of the e-mail Rogers customer service sent me.
Upgrade Instructions for Rogers HTC Magic
Requirements:
Rogers Magic
Battery Level of 50% or more. Do not start upgrade if battery level less than 50%
One microSD card formatted in FAT32 and a SD card reader OR two microSD cards formatted in FAT32, if you don't have a SD card reader
Windows or Mac computer, recognizing the SD card reader and able to see the microSD card installed in the Magic as an external drive.
Note: Only microSD cards formatted in FAT32 format can be used for the update. FAT format is not accepted. MicroSD cards formatted on the Magic are OK (FAT32).
Preparing for update:
A. Download the file HTC_Magic_Update_File1.zip to your computer and unzip it. In the subfolder HTC_Magic_Update_File1 you should find the file SAPPIMG.zip. Please do not extract its contents and please do not change the file name.
B. Download the file HTC_Magic_Update_File2.zip to your computer. Unzip it. In the folder HTC_Magic_Update_File2 you should find only the file SAPPIMG.zip. Please do not extract its contents and please do not change the file name.
If you have a SD card reader , use it to transfer the file SAPPIMG.zip with a size of 9,575,980 bytes, from computer's subfolder HTC_Magic_Update_File1, to the root folder of the microSD card that you will use for the update. Then proceed directly with the steps under Update Part1 section of this document.
If you do not have a SD card reader , DO NOT proceed yet to Update Part1. Itas necessary to prepare in advance both microSD cards, which will be used during this 2-phase update, as follows.
Preparing the two microSD cards:
1. Mark the two microSD cards: one as SD1 and one as SD2.
SD1 will be used during the steps described under Update Part1 and SD2 is for Update Part2.
2. Insert the microSD card labeled SD1 in your Magic.
3. Connect the Magic to your computer using the USB cable and verify that the Magic indicates USB Connected in the top left Notifications area.
4. Press the Menu button and then tap on Notifications.
5. Tap on USB Connected. Select "Mount" at the prompt, to enable Storage Mode and be able to copy files between the computer and the microSD card.
6. With the microSD card now visible from the computer as a removable disk, transfer to its root folder the file SAPPIMG.zip with a size of 9,575,980 bytes from the computer's subfolder HTC_Magic_Update_File1.
7. Once the transfer ends, press the Menu button and then tap on Notifications.
8. Tap on "Turn off USB storage". Tap again on "Turn Off" as confirmation.
9. Go to Settings - "SD card & phone storage" screen, tap on Unmount SD card.
10. Remove the microSD card from your Magic.
11. Repeat the steps 2 to 10 as mentioned above, but this time using the micro SD card marked SD2 and transferring on it, from the other computer's subfolder - HTC_Magic_Update_File2, the same name SAPPIMG.zip file - having a size of 93,863,897 bytes.
12. Proceed with the steps described under Part1 section of this document.
Installing the Update via MicroSD Card:
Update Part1 - Preparing the device
The first part will prepare the device for the actual update but will not upgrade the Operating System, the upgrade itself will be performed in Part2.
1. Backup your personal data: All personal data (contacts, applications, photos, bookmarks, etc) stored on the device will be lost after the update process. There are also 3rd party applications on Android Market place to back up your applications and personal data.
2. Power off the device.
3. Remove the existing microSD card from your device (if there is one already installed): press in on the microSD Card to eject it and then remove it from the slot.
4. Insert the microSD card with the SAPPIMG.zip file on it in the microSD slot, slide it into the slot until you feel a click. If you are doing the update using two microSD cards (in the absence of a SD card reader), insert in the Magic the microSD you marked SD1.
5. Press and hold the Volume Down Button and the Power buttons until the display turns white.
6. The update will begin installing, please follow any onscreen instructions, press the trackball when prompted to press "Action"
7. Once the "Update Complete - Do you want to reboot?" message is displayed, press the TrackBall for the device to reboot and complete the first part of the upgrade process.
8. Power off the device by taking the battery out to prepare for the Update Part2. Do not wait or expect that the device will boot normally after this first part of the update. Just power off the device.
Update Part 2 - Upgrading the device.
1. If you do not have an SD card reader:
- Remove the micro SD marked SD1 from the Magic and insert in it the microSD card marked SD2.
- Skip to step number 3below.
2. If you have an SD card reader, use it to:
- Delete the SAPPIMG.zip from the microSD card
- Transfer the file SAPPIMG.zip (with a size of 93,863,897 bytes), from computer’s subfolder HTC_Magic_Update_File2, to the root folder of the microSD card. Please do not extract its contents and do not change the file name.
3. As done once before, during the Part1 of the update, Press and hold the Volume Down Button and the Power buttons of the Magic until the display turns white.
4. The Part 2 of the update will begin. Please follow any onscreen instructions, press the trackball when prompted to press Action.
5. Once the "Update Complete – Do you want to reboot?" message is displayed, press the TrackBall for the device to reboot and complete the 2nd part of the upgrade process.
6. Wait for the Magic to reboot with the new software.
Once you concluded that the update was successful, "clean" the microSD card(s) by deleting the SAPPIMG.zip file.

If reading that somewhat confused you due to Rogers making a very very simple process sound more complicated than it is, here are the Coles notes:
1) Download both files, extract them (probably into separate folders if you don't want to figure out which ones which later).
- The two files:
Part ONE: hotfile.com/dl/28643488/a186d30/HTC_Magic_Update_File1.zip.html
Part TWO: hotfile.com/dl/28645075/369062f/HTC_Magic_Update_File2.zip.html
2) Put the first SAPPIMG.zip on an SD card.
3) Volume-down + PWR
4) Wait for prompts, press trackball when prompts come up.
5) Reboot after first part done, and take battery out immediately.
6) Delete the first part off the SD card, put the second SAPPIMG.zip on.
7) Repeat steps 3->5
8) Delete second part off SD card (you don't need it anymore and its on your computer, presumably)
9) Power on phone, should be stock Rogers HTC Magic cupcake (Android 1.5) with Sense UI, and you'll find it rather slow.
10) From here if your services (voice, data, etc.) are still inactive, you now can claim you've done what Rogers has asked and demand for your services back (which you really shouldn't have had taken away from you in the first place, but I digress)
11) After getting yourself up and running again on Rogers, you can re-root your phone, flash a new radio/ROM/whateveryouwant from here.
Cheers,
wuZheng
DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE ROOTED YOU WILL END UP WITH A PERFECT SPL AND CAN NO LONGER BE ROOTED (AS OF RIGHT NOW).
There are proper update instructions elsewhere. Do NOT follow the above guide.

verizone xv6175 ????

i got htc verizone xv6175 dead and can't boot even in boot mode with volume down power one how i can solve my probleme
Have you charged it? Are you sure you're holding down the volume down key and keeping held down before pressing the power key? If you can't, then you'd better take it to Verizon.
yes i did and the baterry is full
i folow this methode but i don(t have working HTC so i can't use if somone can help me
Method 3: The "goldcard" final method is a bit more intensive so follow closely:
(This method will unbrick 99% of all Maples regardless of branding)
•Get a cup of coffee or tea
•You will need a working Donor HTC device with a microSD slot and a microSD card that is smaller than 1GB (will be formatted) to create "goldcard" image using QMAT tools as described below
•You will need QMAT. Get it from revskills.de/index.html.
•Go to the Download Link and download the latest version and unpack QMAT
•Have some coffee
•Use a SD card reader in your PC to access the SD card through Windows. Format the SD card with FAT32.
•* Insert the SD card into the donor HTC device and connect the USB cable. If you unchecked "Allow USB Connections" in Activesync in an earlier step, make sure you recheck it so that you can establish a full USB sync connection to the HTC device.
•Open QMAT and go to the "Hardware Forecsics" (version 5.04 and below) or "Calculators/Generators" (version 5.05 and up) menu and select "Generate HTC Goldcard"
•In "Select device key:" select the Maple
•You will need the serial number from the SD card so click the "Get SD Card Serial from WINCE Device" button
•Once the Serial number appears in the box, click the "Save Goldcard Image to WINCE SD" button below
•If no errors pop up and all goes well, proceed to these next steps
•If you get an error or a popup saying "Goldcard for newer devices isn't implemented in newer devices", you must buy and register the software. Believe me, it's worth the small amount of $ you will spend to bring your expensive device back to life!
•Now remove the SD card with the newly written Goldcard image from the Donor HTC device
•Insert the SD card back into your PC using the microSD card reader adapter. Browse to the drive letter assigned to it. You will see no files on the SD card, this is normal.
•(If, for some reason your PC sees the SD card as unformatted, something went wrong. Remove it and reinsert it into the Donor HTC device. The device should see the card as unformatted and ask you to format it, say yes. Now go back to the "* Insert the SD card into the donor HTC device" step above and repeat the steps)
•Unpack your HTC, T-Mobile, or other factory ROM and copy RUU_Signed.nbh to the SD card. Once it had finished copying, rename the file to MAPLIMG.nbh. Remove the SD card from the PC.
•Make sure the Maple is off and insert the SD card
•Enter bootloader mode as mentioned earlier (hold the volume down button while pressing the power button)
•You will see a gray screen that says "loading". It will then find the MAPLIMG.nbh file and ask if you would like to start the update process. Follow the instructions and let the phone flash.
•You can also do the update using the Rom Update Utility with the USB cable if you like
•It will take 10 mins but your phone should boot fine and be back in action!

SD Card CID (w/o phone)?

I am in a bad situation with my rooted, now semi-bricked G1 =[
I had cyanogenmod and RA recov. I installed a new theme directly from the CM updater app; then on reboot, my phone would not boot into the OS (stuck on logo, before loading screen). So I tried to overwrite the phone with cyan again. It wouldn't work so then I was left to flash the phone and start over. Upon flashing, I got that b#$6h of an error. Then the "RUUNBH".
Now upon turning on my phone (In any way) it comes to the colured screen. When I try to flash a nbh, I get the "not allow" because my SD card needs to be a gold card.
The only method now is to gold card my SD. Which I cannot figure out anymore because all the methods I would need a WinMo phone or an working Android phone, neither I have access to.
In short, does anyone know how I can get a SD card's CID without a phone. I DO have a laptop with a sd card reader and CAN get access to a external USB sd card reader.
Any help?

Buy a cheap winmo phone? Something that has whats required. There has to be an old one that can do it for like 20 - 30 dollars. I don't think it's possible otherwise.
I think it may be possible to get the CID with a sdcard slot (not USB), usually within a laptop. Recently, I found this: jo0ls-dotnet-stuff.blogspot.com/search/label/SD%20Card%20CID
I used his source and threw in a couple lines to debug why it wasn't working, but it seems the laptop I own doesn't have a support SD card slot, so I will have to go see someone who has a internal SD slot on their laptop.
A winmo phone for $30?... By any chance of pointing me in the direction of such item(s)? (I am Australian)

Thanks for your suggestion. But it is possible that you would still need to get her a CID. I am wondering if it is possible to overwrite the whole SD card through the tool that is used to edit your SD card and into a 'goldcard'.
I PMed the person who was recommended in that thread, fingers crossed.
SD card reader that can read SD/MMC 32 bit CID
Hi There
I think this might be useful to anyone that sits with the problem of reading the 32 bit serial number/CID of a SD/MMC card.
I have managed to get firmware written for the Addonics eSata/USB multi-card reader model AEPDDESU with a small application that will read and display the CID number.
There is no other way to read the CID number through USB on PC other than having the the chip set inside the reader relay the information back to the host when it receives an application defined command, like for instance DeviceIoControl.
If anyone is interested drop me a mail and i will gladly mail u the firmware + utillity .One will need to buy this drive though.

Dear friend.
I am looking for solution to read Serial No from SD card. I made special software which is runing on every pc on out company an check all inserted USB memory keys. Then compare serial no with database and if not registered is used we get warnings on IT section that not registered usb key was used.
Unfortunatelly i have problem with sd cards because i always get serial number of card reader and not serial no od SD card.
Is there some way to get serial no from SD card via Card reader? Can you send me the model of card reader which is possible to read this SN + Software?
Is there some dll or component for reading usable for .net visual basic?
Thank you for informations.

Write or modified Cid of sd card ?
Translated with google translation
Hello you know how to modify the cid of a card sd ??
thank you in advance

Messed up SD card during downgrade portion of rooting.

I thought I had turned my sd card into a goldcard in my inspire but I must have done something wrong. during the downgrade part of rooting, bootloader was unable to find pd981im.zip ... now my sd card is jacked. rebooted the phone and now I am not able to connect the phone as a physical disk (option is not even there) and it says damaged sd card. Is there a way to bring the sd card back to life through the phone or do I have to buy a micro sd usb key or the likes to format it?
Let me know if I need to clarify more.
Thanks,
Dkay

Try going into settings>>SD & phone storage and unmount your SD card, then hit the "Format SD card". It's worth a shot, if not you could go buy a cheap 2 gig for the SD card adapter.
P.S. This section is for development, just a heads up.
You didnt make your gold card correctly some times it takes a few times to make it. As said before format and retry.

Not solved for me
It gives me an error that's too fast to read then goes to SPL.
Once it was slow enough I could read it say "Not allow".
I tried different cards / memory pendrive etc, nothing works.
For me it was the goldcard.img file
Eventually found one that works:
