Many companies make these types of chargers. There are even the type you can put the AA batteries into that companies like Duracell and Rayovac make as well that are only like 15 bucks at walmart.
I had a friend use one of these chargers on their ipod touch and it seemed to work great.
http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-XP4...le-apps&ie=UTF8&qid=1320849199&sr=1-1-catcorr
I picked up two of these a while ago, they work fantastically great.
I carry them in a portable hard drive case, it holds both.
You can just plug in anything with a usb cord and charge it - charges this phone, my nook color, my verizon dumb phone, my girls' phone and both of our digital cameras.
Does not charge my friends archos 7o tablet for some reason. Tablet won't read power input from the battery pack.

you mistake bro! it's not used for put the AA batteries into it, it's a rechargeable battery itself. i already have one for a month, see my attachments. works so good, 5600mAh capacity, it definitly put 3 full charge cycle on my phone after itself full charged, let me easily get through 4-5 days with out power. so amazing, insn't it?
External battery pack for all uses-
I have been using the ZaggSparq for a while, and it is great. Charges multiple devices when plugged into power, and the battery pack has indicator lights for those (like me) who fret that power will die before I finish my tasks.
hmmmm .... Temping

Congrats, you'll like having an external battery you can juice up with on the go.
I know the Energizer ones I linked to earlier have been serving me well since long before I got this device - talk about having a digital camera juiced for a whole weekend camping trip with no power to be found otherwise.
In the case of the doubleshot, something like this is a veritable lifesaver.
Given the reputation Anker has rightfully earned, i'd love to hear how well that works out for you. My energizer battery packs have one big flaw - they need a proprietary AC adapter to charge them (come from a time before standardizing those things was as important as it is today)
I'd love to swap over to something I can centralize my charging with - does the output of your wall adapter match the output of the wall adapter for the doubleshot? ( 5v 1A )
If so that's one AC block for both ...

Just purchased 10000 mAh battery pack! Best investment I can make since I can use it once I buy the GSIII
The anker one
I'll report back soon it supposed to get here the 16th..
Just my spare change.
I have had my Anker battery pack for a while now, and I love it. I can usually charge my phone twice with it. I am no longer worried about running out of battery.

Thanks for pointing this out -
Here is the product at amazon:

Here is a quote from a review on amazon:
I do want to point out one advantage to this product that may not be apparent. When compared to some of their other external batteries, you do not need to use a wall charger (power brick) to charge the battery itslf. This is a HUGE advantage if you want to travel light with as little extra junk as possible. The IMP50D is packaged with a small coiled USB to mini-USB cable that is used to charge the unit. This means you can charge this battery from any usb port (if traveling with your laptop). You can also charge it from the little charging cube that came with your iPhone, like this one Apple USB Power Adapter for iPod/iPhone . This means that the only thing you need to carry is the battery and this little cord. This is a very well thought out design.

I am on a kick to minimize the amount of extra BS I need to carry with me.
My current energizer battery packs are 4000mAh but require a proprietary A/C charging cable - so their portability is somewhat compromised by being able to re-charge them on the road.
I've had them for a long while, longer then i've had this phone, and at the time simply having usb battery available was the concern and the price was right to not quibble over details.
Now, though, buying something new has new requirements, which this item is near to meeting. One of which is standardizing of cables.
I have a retractable mini-usb cable, so i'm ahead of the game on the recharge cable for this battery pack - but it's not quite the micro-usb that the doubleshot uses and that would eliminate having another cable entirely.
( The redeeming factor that makes this an okay consideration, or at least an acceptable exemption for this ONE situation with cables - PS3 controller is mini-usb so when I get that working it'll be the same cable anyway... )
...at the price on the daily steals website, not getting this I think would be a mistake on my part. Being able to recharge it out in the wild (because I don't bring the energizer AC with me unless it's an actual trip, so aren't part of my daily arsenal) is a step forward.
It says compatible with all apple AC power blocks, so that'll work with the slim HTC AC/USB power block we have, it's the smallest one i've found and should work with my car adapter so I can keep it topped off.
Browsing through tha Amazon reviews leads to the notion that the power button is raised a bit and turns itself on if bumped, but I don't carry things like this out in the world without it's own case anyways so that just means it needs a hardshell one. Figure that out once I physically have it.
I don't like that it doesn't stop discharging on device full, but you can't win them all and in my experience I rarely actually fill the device while it's on the battery pack, it more turns into a cord running into my pocket until I get back up to 80% or so.
I used the doubleshot all night at a wedding I was the best man in, pictures and video, and what I did was to feed the power cord through my belt loops and into my back pocket, where I had the energizer battery pack. That kept it close to my body so people didn't get caught up with it, and I was able to work my way through the crowd of dancing people taking pictures and video using the battery pack in my pocket, having run the stock battery into the ground long before.
Reviews also lead to the notion that you can't charge a device with the battery pack while charging the pack itself, so that's a point of contention to be handled on the next upgrade after this one.
After having passed on the Mugen extended battery this week, too, this seems like a workable compromise on the road to consolidation.
9 hours left before it's a much less attractive options...
Thanks for letting us know about the deal!
It came in today, I was only at my house for a few minutes but it's literally just a bit smaller then the doubleshot with a trident case on.
I plugged it in to charge it up, and when I eventually get home later I'll take a handful of pictures so you can see.
I haven't actually used it yet, but if it's anything like I expect it to be I think I'm going to be sad I only bought one.

I have noticed at least 4 threads in the last couple of days on here all discussing various charging options for when on the move.
These devices are often caller Emergency Battery Chargers and there are dozens of them for sale ranging from ones on eBay that cost £1.99 and take a single AA battery to solutions that cost 50 times that.
So as battery life is a hot topic and I am sure all the new owners are looking at options, perhaps we could use this thread to discuss the various products out there.
So if you have bought one of these things, why not post your experience here with details on where you got it and how well it works (or doesn't)
i bought one from ebay, sold by gpsforless-uk. its a small white box that comes with loads of attachments for other devices, eg ipods, nokias etc.
i have found it to be great for what it does- it gives my desire 1 whole charge, comes with an extendable cable too so can harge it 'handsfree'!
cost £14.99 and for my uses is perfect, i have a charger in the car and the stock one at home.
the coolest thing about is that i can charge the phone and the charger at the same time.

Picked it up from Cash Converters for £6.. very lucky find.
Gives my Desire a 3/4 charge when its fully full.
http://www.solartechnology.co.uk/shop/freeloader-silver.htm
this?
aye that's the one
Must admit that the ProPorta kit is excellent however I have now settled on this
http://www.just-mobileonline.com/products_chargerseries_9.html
The main reason is that it can charge at 1000mA so the Desire registers it as an AC charger rather than a USB one (look at the battery info when charging).
At 4400mAH it is slightly higher capacity than the ProPorta but it charges quicker (and lets be honest, the Desire is not the quickest phone to charge). It is also a little smaller.
Having said that though, the ProPorta is also available without the ProPorta badge on here
http://www.portablepowersupplies.co.uk/usbliionbatterypack.htm
For half the price. Makes it a bargain but does make you question how PP can charge almost double!
So whilst I love the PP kit, the Mobile Gum charges the phone in less time so for me, that gives it the edge.
If budget is more limited then the non branded equivalent of the ProPorta is a no brainer.
Have you guys seen this yet - it's certainly the future if not abit expensive for now...

Guys, a simple recheargeble penlite contains 2200+ mAh, so use this:
Minty Boost Kit
I bought this and built it.
When I mount 4 rechargeble penlites I got 5000mAh portable power with me, good for 3 full charges or enless movie-watching

I think fuel cells have to be the future. The challenge now is to make them smaller and cheaper to a point where this technology will actually replace the battery inside a phone or other mobile device.
I have heard that Toshiba are doing a lot of work in this area with laptop batteries but early days.
Nice case - i saw these on the instructables as well.
But one question - isn't 5000mAh @ 1.2v? meaning 3.7v is about 2200mah?
Anyone seen this one before:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/POWER-JUNKIE-...ories_MobilePhoneChargers&hash=item51934bec5d
The output voltage seems abit high but seems it can charge an iphone. Cant seem to find anything about the manufacturer or its dimensions.
Would be a winner if it could be trusted!
the only thing id say is that some of the cheaper chargers do not delivery enough voltage, in one bad experience i found that one AA booster actually drained the battery.
I've brought a powermonkey which is the bees knees. I get 1.5 charges out of it and the whole device serves as a charger for all my other devices too, as it delivers a nice 5.2 v and has many attachments. I believe there are a lot of competitors now with comparable functionality.
i have this one: (Sanyo KBC 2LS)
h**p://w++.eneloop.info/products/mobile-boosters/with-li-ion-battery.html
giving me up to 3 loads for the desire. And additional it has two usb-output-ports, so that you can also charge two phones at once (last time i use it with my girlfriend, we both laying in the sun and both enjoying music the whole day). Maximum Output is 500mA, so if u are heavy using your phone it runs out of energy
secondly i tried this:
h**p://w++.energy-trends.eu/et-3000-solarladegeraet-iphone-handy.htm
it has an build in 3000mAh Accupack and is able to load my desire twice. The solar Panels are very good, the 3000mAh-Akku is loaded in one Day (with good sunlight). I tried to hear mp3-music and read a book with aldiko, and after 6 hours the capacyty of my desire doesnt drop. So u can load the et-3000 at daylight and reload your desire overnight. But u cant heavy use your phone, but good for light use the phone when you are out of civilisation somwhere in the middle of nothing ;o)
(sorry it is not allowed to post links for me...)
OK ive taken a punt on the 5000mah one as I figure its perfect for taking on holiday and charging 2 phones. I have a spare battery in my wallet for on the move power.
Will see if it charges at > 500mah and if not maybe I can mock up a cable to plug into both ports?
Will post photos/experiences when it arrives

the desire charges with no "AC"-sign, so probably with 500mA max. The Manual says, that it delivers 500mA on every USB-plug. So maybe it is possible to manipulate it and using both plugs for 1A.
OK arrived today so gotta give the ebay seller credit.
See pic - states on the box it charges at 700mah with a capacity of 5000mah so thats pretty good. Also says it can charge an iphone 4.5 times. Charges off a micro USB so need to carry another cable now which is a shame but at least i dont need another AC adapter.
OK so im sending the power junkie 5000mah back to the guy as it appears to be faulty. Such a shame because its a really nice piece of kit and the double USB sockets were a bonus.
Basically it charges my desire fully once and they fails half way through a second charge dropping from fully bars on the indicator to emtpy. Anyone else get one of these? Im not sure whether to try a replacement or get a refund and try the pebble.
On the chargers I dont think the cable really matters (although you can have chargeonly cables which do not sync) its all about whether the pins are shorted at source on the charger itself. Think about the USB that came with your phone - the cable has all 4 pins open as you can use for sync, its the charger where the difference lies.
Anyone tried the Freeloader Pico (Pico) device? I know people think solar is pretty rubbish to charge a device, but once the Freeloader is charged, say by USB, do you think you'd get a full Desire charge from the specs? Pretty cheap for £14.

these are good. Ive got 2 and I usually get 2-3 charges out of it whilst still using the phone and they charge at AC rate (only when using the supplied cable, other wise 500ma with a standard usb cable)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Powerbee-Po..._1_1?s=outdoors&ie=UTF8&qid=1283550393&sr=1-1
but they used to be £20 a month ago, now they are more expensive than the veho pebble (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/images/B003F5WEMO/ref=dp_image_z_0?ie=UTF8&n=560798&s=electronics) which has a much nicer cosmetic finish to it so id probably choose the pebble now (they are essentially both the same device with different branding)
Those are all cheap toys.
You need something real to get the job done right and look good while doing it.

I like a lot of people use my phone very heavily yet I don't have an opportunity to plug my phone into an AC charger until I return home. A great remedy to the problem is this handly little AA charger.
http://www.igo.com/accessories/powerxtender-charger/invt/ps002640004/
The reason I like it so much is because cheap portable battery packs usually pack under 1000mah of power. Thats not even enough to give you 1 full charge. And the more expensive 2000mah+ packs are often on the large side and well... expensive lol. On the other hand this little bugger is cheap and small enough to sit in my pocket without being a bother. What I find is the best part of it is the fact that you can choose what kind of AA batteries you put into it. I opted for Energizer rechargeable which are rated at 2450mah EACH for a total of 4900mah of power. Thats the equivalent of 3 G2x batteries. Keep 2 more batteries in your backpack/desk/purse thats an additional 4900mah. If that can't get you through the day you have more than just phone issues
Originally bought it for my Vibrant but quickly found it was awkward because the the product doesnt come with a cable adapter. This meant it was hanging and putting much strain on the usb port of the phone. Out of fear of breaking it I stopped using it. However since the G2x charges from the bottom there is absolutely no problem espcially seeing as I bought a 20cm micro usb extension cable so that the charger can sit in my lap or on a table while using the phone.
Just thought I'd share this since we can't get legit replacement batteries yet and even when they do become available they will cost a pretty penny. Got mine from Staples but they can be had on amazon also along with the usb extension able and rechargeable batteries.

I almost bought one of those until I saw how low the capacity on it is. Looks tiny though which is nice.
J&R has Veho 5Ah external battery for $35 and I have 2 of them.
Just use regular microUSB cable to charge the phone and leave the original cable secure.
I'm thinking about getting the i-up 13,200mAh pack.

Just received my Pebble XT 5000mah pack. Won't be able to put it through its paces till next tuesday. Upon first impression, i think im in love with this thing already. its small enough to sit in pocket without having much presence. extremely lightweight. and the cord is long enough to be able to have the charger in your pocket and phone in hand (thank you lg for putting the usb port at the bottom). All info I have read indicated that it really does output 5000mAh of power so even a heavy user such as myself will have no problem getting through a full day of use.
Just wondering how everyone's batterys are working out for them?
Also how many full charges did you get?
Also any likes or dislikes of product they decided to buy?

That looks like something that might be good out camping or something where you needed to charge your phone without touching it. But I would figure actually picking it up and putting that much weight on he usb port a very bad idea... This should come with a extension cord to charge while using, even texting or something would be pretty difficult to hold both...

ImaxPower IMP500 (5000mAh) External Battery
I've used an IMP500 Rechargeable (5000mAh) external battery pack for a few years with great sucess. They make them as large as 11000mAh (or more?) and even have solar-rechargeable options. Just take a look at New Trent or other similar products on Amazon or eBay.
The best part about the IMP series is that they have multiple adapters for iPhones, mini/micro USB, PSP, DS, and other devices so you can charge your phone and anything else you might be carrying around with you.
Link to NewTrent for info on models
I'd recommend buying elsewhere because you can find them for 30-50%+ off.
Well my battery life is pretty good, I have the 2750mah and I'm running lightning rom 1.5 with the stock kernel and I get a solid 2 days, but just in case I ever decide to go back to the stock battery I made this nifty little thing. It's an altoids case with a portable charger and adapters inside, and the parts list is as follows:
1x 1N4742A 12V Zener Diode $1.59
Model: 1N4742 | Catalog #: 276-563
1x 6V 50mAh Solar Cell Encap $14.99
Model: 277-1205 | Catalog #: 277-1205
Both of which are available at radioshack, I also had to cut up an old mini-usb cable for the input.
Let me know what you guys think!
Lol that is awesome. How long for a full charge?
I haven't tested how long the solar panel will take to charge the battery in the case, but the battery is only 1000mah, so I get another 30% in about an hour, hour and a half ish
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
quite clever indeed what would happen if you used a couple solar panels in parallel?
I was thinking about it, at 14.99 a piece I just might. They produce 50ma each, so a second in parallel would be 100ma and charge twice as fast.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Wow that's badass. You should consider marketing it
I've often wondered why no one has made a phone case with photoelectric cells that continuously charge your phone.

there are not alot of times when i am not near electricity but i agree for those times when i am this is a sweet idea... camping over the weekend comes to mind.
i wish i had the money/time/resources to bring this to market, it is perfect for camping lol, my fiancee and i spend a week in the catskills every summer and im definitely bringing this along this year
Very nice . there is a solar charger in the market but who know how much time the charge.
I went a slightly different route. My Altoids charger will charge any USB device from a readily available 9v battery and one battery will get you several charges.

It has a standard USB port on the end and the red LED indicates when the charger is turned on. A simple switch on the side turns it on and off and it's regulated to 5v like any USB port.
And then my wife completely forgot that I built it and bought me one of these for x-mas.
It's called a Powerstick and has a small lithium battery inside that charges from any USB port, and comes with a bunch of small adapters to fit many different USB devices. The Powerstick cost about $25 + shipping, but the Altoids charger cost me about $15 to build, including having to replace the voltage regulator once after accidentally smoking the first one during assembly. The Powerstick is slimmer, but the Altoids charger wins for geek factor. Also, the powerstick needs charged off USB, whereas I can walk into almost any gas station or Wal-Mart and buy a 9v battery. So the Altoids charger wins on long trips.
Dude make me one n I'll buy it from u

I want this so bad. I'm gonna have to figure out how to put one of these together for myself.

thats sick, i like how the battery is replaceable, you could even use a rechargeable 9v and a solar panel to recharge it XD
mine has a standard usb as well, i just didnt show the proper angle lol, its in the pic below. the portable charger inside mine is an energizer xpal1000
I am FAR too stupid for this crazy ass thing. lol
Dude you need to make a Youtube video on how to make this! You can even charge your phone while is in your pocket!!! (i don't know how safe that is but sounds super awesome!)

I was thinking about it, at 14.99 a piece I just might. They produce 50ma each, so a second in parallel would be 100ma and charge twice as fast.

It really depends on how much sunlight you have. Volts X watts determines the time it takes to charge. I am building mine tonight, and my calculations indicate about 8 hours for a full charge in bright sunlight.

Checkout this Anker Slimtalk on Amazon..
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054V7GOI
Supplies auxiliary power to devices like cellphones. Specs on the Amazon ad state it is compatible with the HTC Sensation. I ordered one and saved $9 using the coupon code: ANKERSWT, which is good until 08/31. My final cost $22.66
I bought this product, but I personally wouldn't really recommend it.
The good:
- Easy convenient to recharge phone
- Include MicroUSB within the unit itself - no extra wires need to be carried
- Included flashlight
- Slim, sleek design
The bad:
- Battery charge remaining hard to see in the sun
- Requires a long time to recharge back to full
- Is supposed to have a 3200 mAH battery life, aka 2 recharges, but barely gives me 1.25 charges on a OEM battery
However it is really cheap at $21.
Expecting two recharges from a 3200 mAH source is completely unrealistic due to fact that energy transfer across such media is never efficient.
anker slimtalk
I got my anker slimtalk yesterday, it looks good, supper slim, easier to take than having an extra battery and having to open up the phone and replace it. And it charge fast as well.

I've been using this for about a month now. I can say that the plug is off and on, meaning it doesn't seat too well and can be charged in a certain position, users may vary. But when it works, it's a handy thing to have just in case you need an extra boost.
I got something very similar in design and size from a local super market (Asda).
It has a 5000mah battery and 2x USB ports on.
Was £8.
It's now gone up to £15:

Yes similar, but the anker has the cord built in. That was the buying factor for me.

did you try doing a double charge using the built in micro cord + an external usb cord? this is good for sharing a power source otg.
just a lol info on the anker slimtalk. I did about 3 charging cycles and then put it to the test. I drained my mugen 2600 mah on my hd2 to 3% and connected the slimtalk. I was able to charge to 75% before the slimtalks juice ran out. I'm no math expert but all I got was 72% of 3200 mah. still the slimtalk satisfies my needs for emergency power.

I wasn't really expecting the slimtalk to keep my device at capacity. Just to have enough juice ICE.
I do love it for being thin enough and light enough to fit in my back pocket on the go. I have enough crap to lug around when going out, especially with a 3 year old.

yeah im in the same boat as you. i keep in in my tablet bag when i go to work. i have a lil correction on my post though. i said 72% of 3200mah when i meant 72% of 2600mah. (mugen battery = 2600, on a 3% charge it went to 75%) that would make the slimtalk roughly a 2000mah power bank and not a 3200mah. thats unless it takes roughly 1200mah just to transfer the juice over.
The problem you've highlighted there is present in all these devices.
The battery that is rated at 3200mah is running at 3.7v. The device then has to up that voltage to 5v to input into the phone to then charge the phones 3.7v battery.
With my 5000mah charger I can get just over a couple of charges out of it. Very handy when away from a power source for a couple of days etc.

Why don't you guys just buy an extra battery with an external charger. Wouldn't it be easier than carrying that around?

you have a point but a way to answer that is to say... what if you need to charge anything else that takes a usb cord. (bluetooth headset, ipod, zune, tablet, a friends phone.) i like nerdy things like this charger bank.
dont try this at home! slimtalk+usb hub+hd2+i9000+t989 lol. mind you that your only going to get a 15-20% charge on each

Holy crap! Pick a device! LOL
Can anyone help me with a site which will deliver it to India?
not bad, might check it out
For some reason, the charge dissipates quickly even when not in use. It seems that it loses 25% of battery life every day or two.
I fully charged it, then plugged my phone in a few days later in an emergency. It clicked at 50%.
As of now, I wouldn't recommend this device. I'd say, buy an extra battery instead. Anker batteries are good but this is crap.

That's weird because I don't charge my slimcharger every day. It's been sitting on my dresser for over a week and everytime I get dressed in my closet (walk in) I press the button to see if it did dissipate at all and mine still shows full even after a weeks time.
I was looking at this wireless charging kit for my Galaxy S4 I337 and I wanted to check here before wasting any money. Is this a legit product that works well or something I should avoid? Is there anything better if this is garbage? Thanks all!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Qi-Wireless...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item2ecf1d5a17
The receiver looks like it should fit. Whether or not it abides by the Qi standard I wouldn't dare guess about that. It has no company markings, just the Qi logo. But that wouldn't affect the phone itself just if the pad/receiver were compatible with other pads/receivers. Lastly I'm not going to bet it really can do 1000mha but for $19 I'd give it a shot if I hadn't already bought a set a while back.

That one is kind of old school.
Look for two things:
Chip located in the gap left where you insert the sd card...results in better back fit.
NFC included on the insert---not "works with NFC", acutally has an NFC loop and the other two connector pads for NFC
I can't find the one I bought, but the Nillkin one looks similar to mine.
Can anyone post a link to the product that they use that works really well? There are tons out there and I just want to make sure I don't pick one that is known to be junk.
Aside from the wireless receivers that fit in the existing back cover, I have thought about getting this official back cover and then just a generic charging pad. If I won't be able to use a case with either, I may prefer the extra bulk this back cover will cause instead of something that fits in the existing back cover. If what you have works with cases, let me know what type of case you use too.

This charger and receiver work well for me, I picked these based on user reviews:
I can't post links, so look on Amazon for : PowerBot® PB1020 Qi Enabled Wireless Charger , and the : Zitrades(TM) 2013 Latest Qi Standard wireless Charger receiver pad
The pad is thin and fits within the stock back cover.
Cool, thanks!
I bought these:

they work exceptionally well, charges through thick cases (I use a Trident Aegis) and though it can be a bit finicky on placement, it works really well and charges at about 675mha. Not the fastest but still good.

I have bought more then 3 qi charger for my s4 few months ago (price range from $15 to $35), and I finally gave up on these charger.
The charging speed is incredible slow and sometime makes the phone hot. If you put a QI charger in your office, in a busy day and your battery level is low, if you count on the qi charger, then it'll be defiantly a night mare. I'll prefer to wait for the next generation wireless charging technology to come available.

very interesting. I've never had an issue with heat, neither with the charging pad nor the receiver in the phone even with the thick case on. I average with mysetup between 16 to 23% charge/hr it's no 40 or 50 I get with a proper wire/adapter setup, but it's more than enough at work and totally enough while sleeping. What was your receiver rated at? the one I linked to is rated at 1000mha (whether or not it charges that fast, I can't comment, my pad is only rated at 750).
What most people don't like about these types of chargers is you can't charge while you use it, phone has to be laying on the charger and all, or they have the screen to be set constantly on or whatever which will slow down your charging. Not saying these were your issues, but I'd recommend running a few tests, it sounds like you've tried different pads, have you bought another receiver for the phone? install an app to help monitor the battery charge and usage (I find battery monitor widget fairly accurate, it'll tell you your charge your charge percentage/hr). just my thoughts for you.
I ended up purchasing the following two items. I mainly need this for my work desk as I often run out of battery well before the end of a work day. Having this on my desk will help because I can charge more frequently and keep a higher battery meter. When I'm home I don't mind using a power cable as the way I'm setup works well there. Anyway, we'll see how this all works and I appreciate all the replies.

I don't remember the rated mha, because I haven't used it for long time. Maybe they're the very first generation products with lots of problem.
But just like you said, you have to laying down the phone while it's charging, this is the biggest problem for me. In a working desk, you can still using your phone while the charging cable is connected, and the charging speed is incredibly faster then the QI charger, if you use the QI pad, you need to put it back to the pad every time, if you're busy, you don't have time to put it back and make sure they're properly aligned, that's why I eventually give up on the product.
But I just thinking, if some day in the future, the whole working desk can be a QI charger support your tablet and your phone's power, that will be a great invention for our everyday life.

The starting Gen of inductive charging had a lot of problems, mainly weak circuits in detecting the phone requiring precise lining up. Things are a bit better now especially if you run a naked or think phone case.
Sounds like a brilliant DIY to build an entire desk Qi charging pad. From what I recall the Qi is just a fancy chipset that makes it compatible so someone could theoretically make a desk laced with charging coils if someone had the time, energy and money to do so
Personally I like Qi for home evenings and work. I don't play with my phone at work or whilst I sleep. I also don't keep games on my phone, eats up too much power. During the day and general use I depend on my battery and my cable/plug while on the go. Inductive charging isn't perfect, and frankly will never be in my opinion, but great for those too lazy to plug in their phone (like my gf) or those who get up and down and don't want the hassle of constantly unplugging and plugging their phone in every time. I see them in the same boat as smart watches. They have their niches none of which a normal person really NEEDS, but are fun to haves.

Actually the first generation qi receiver and transmitter was one of the best, Im still using the first generation transmitter from yijieneng, detect all my receiver upto now, and I still have a few first gen S3 receiver, they are built using the best chipset and coil, but because the price of the actual reciever cost more that the oem one itself or 4-5 times the prices of the current receivers on ebay, I don't put them up on ebay.
