Maybe it's just me but the 1080 video recording looks quite poor, at least it does with my spanking new XE. Is this normal?
Settings:-
Scenes = Auto
Image Adjustments = Custom (as the phone came)
White Balance = Auto
Video Quality = Full HD (1920 x 1080)
Stereo Recording = On
Record with audio =On
I'm using the 16gig card from my previous phone and not the one that came with the XE, it's a Sandisk Class 4 I think.
Video recorded today. I suppose you'll need to choose the 720 playback.
Use some mods from dev section.
Stock camera is compressing all records, so quality is bad.
Uncheck "Stereo recording" to avoid all that noise clipping but yes, the stock camera compresses the video waaay to much. Check some of the mods in the dev section. Also, certain roms come with improved camera quality mods. Such as ARHD and Insert coin.
I'm not planning on rooting just yet, so I guess that options out for the time being. Unless there's an apk that'll do the trick?
Edit: Thanks for the tip re Stereo Recording, I'll try that to improve the sound.
This is my personal sample recording and its not bad at all.. Not very good in low light but does awesome in day light.. Watch in full HD
Ignore background noise as its a big waterfall nearby..

How are you folks finding the autofocus with the Sensation camera (and XE)? Mine doesn't seem to be very effective at all.

Yeah .. Consider it stock since when i made this video, i had stock rooted 2.3.5 by EddyOS with stock camera.. Its not even that Amaze cam...
Secondly there is No Autofocus while video is recording... You have to touch focus it while recording ...
Oh right, is that normal with phones? I'm trying to recall if my Desire and Incredible S had autofocus?
Thanks for the tips guys.
BTW. You're not far from me. I live in York.

Hi there neighbour!
My Video
Here is a video of my dog snoring in the dark using my Sensation with RcMix 3.5 V 0.9 rom and the amaze camera set to Macro. I think its a brilliant camcorder!! You do have to touch to focus though while recording but i don't mind that too much now that ive got used to it. Play in full HD to get the full quality.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnIEWst_J2g
I've just tried another HD video, indoors this time. Would you say that this quality is acceptable?
Edit: Once it starts playing, you can change the playback to 1080.
1080...
Here's one i took yesterday to test the 1080 quality with LeeDrOiD.
Let me know what you think...

Rwleigh sweet vid. I have a mini indoor helicopter I wish it did the **** that one does. The cam mod I have is camera revamped I forget who did it. It's the amaze cam with some tweaks. It records at 1080p and at 40mbs. I guess that is blu ray quality. Here is a vid I recorded its at 1080p 40 mbs. It's 14 seconds at 65MB.

How do I check the camera software version, is it the baseband/radio?
If so, you folks with good quality video etc, what software version are you using?
You go to applications in the settings then manage applications. Then click all and scroll down you will see the cam app. Mine is 4.0.211

Ditto on being the best camera, but I haven't had too many issues with noticeable compression artifacts from the stock app. I might have to take a second pass on the pics with the bigger display at home.

Can you guys also post up if these are using stock cams, or camera 360, etc. and post up your settings. These pics you guys are putting up are stunning
camera 360 is nice. can't post my pictures yet though
I've taken a few pics of the same scene with the stock app and then Camera 360 (with max resolution/least compression), loaded them up on a computer to compare. For me, the Cam360 pics look only very slightly better than the stock app. I really can't even tell the difference in quality unless I zoom in a bit, and even then the difference seems rather slight.
Has anyone else taken photos of the exact same scene with both the stock and an alternative app to directly compare the difference?

Comparing side-by-side with my soon-to-be-on-eBay Evo, Inspire's flashes have decidedly green/teal hue.

You can try or upload someplace like flickr as well (the phone has this option built into the Gallery app)
The ones I uploaded was from a computer not the phone, so Im not sure if you are able to upload in such a way via the phone however.

same here... i think the camera isn't all that good honestly. The iPhone 4's camera blows this one away
My experience is that the flash is awful with any significant ambient light
Im sure with certain advanced settings within the phone the photo quality can get better.
Also the focus can be manually changed, on my photos like I mentioned there was absolutely no light in the room.
At the end of the day if you want the best quality photos, its time to invest in a top of the line point and shoot camera.
a picture i took a few days ago. it seems like it focus' nicely but when you take a picture no matter how still you hold it you get a blurry picture.
Deadly combo indeed.

Although, I've had plenty of times where it thinks its focused, but the preview looks like barf. Maybe there's a different focus option for long distance pictures... I don't know. xD

Doesn't look that sharp to me, but this seems to be the trend with all the photos I've seen in reviews (don't have my atrix 2 yet). The macro shots can look good, especially the ones that showcase rocks for some reason, but further distance its pretty blurry looking compared to other high-end phones. The colors are kind of drab and probably the most annoying to me is that the image comes up much darker than it should, at least in comparison to other phones (there's several blogs that pit the atrix 2 against the gs2, amaze, etc.), so images shot at noon in a clear sky look like they are shot in a cloud covered day. These are probably automatic settings. Dunno about adjusting it and all that. Wish it would autofocus in video too.
Drag the focus box instead of tapping.

The camera is on par with most of the devices out there, sure there are some better but this phone is just fine. If your taking a picture that you need to scrutinize that much then use a camera not your phone. Personally I bought my phone to be used as a phone with the benefit of having a camera. I don't understand why people buy a device an then scrutinize it to hell. Would you buy a car without test driving it?

Not bashing the camera at all here I was just getting opinions from others about the picture quality from a supposed 8mp camera
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
The A2 has a ton of potential but there's too much time after you press the photo. Press the button and it takes so long the pics blurred from movement. The oem cam app is lame and it doesn't do good at night. I used cam zoom and it does torch mode for night. Also during the day colors were washed out even in indirect sun light. I really like the camera but the SGS II oem camera app destroys it. The pics regardless of the light are sharp, clean, and overall great. I did however really love the HD recording. Did some really good recordings with zero complaints.

You do realize that picture quality has very little to do with the megapixel rating (size of the picture the camera can take), right?

Yeah I do realize but in most cases higher MP do result in a better picture. 8mp cameras usually shoot better than a 5mp. But the quality issue probably is because of shutter lag

No, no, no, you got it all wrong. The megapixel rating just tells you how large of a picture the camera can take, the sensor is what determines the quality of said picture. Read this article to get a better understanding.

Taking absolutely no credit for this mod, I just wanted to give HOX users a heads up that there's a way around the abysmal 6 mbps bitrate. The mod will increase it to 20 mbps and (hopefully soon) to 40 when the developer releases it. MAKE SURE TO DOWNLOAD ONLY THE SENSE 4 VERSION.
In layman's terms, this will make your video much clearer with higher details.
Also, please take the time to thank the dev for releasing this mod if you do choose to use it. I have been struggling for a couple of days now to try and accomplish from scratch what this guy did, and it's not easy. So, show some appreciation for this guy

As you can see there is no real big difference here. The 720 and 1080p are both nearly the same bit rate. The mod is slightly more but still far from the 20mb bitrate.
