[Q] Can't download SMS Settings from Provider - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys,
I have a problem with SMS.I can receive sms but can't send.
When i found that problem i thought it was my SMS Service Number so i gone to
configure that, BUT that's the problem. My device doesn't appear sms tab to
configure it. When i go to Start>Settings>Telephone tab services and i select
Voicemail and SMS and push dowload settings it says " it's not possible to read
settings from network.Try to view settings later or disconnect data connection
and try later". I have disconnected data connection and try again but nothing
what should i do? when I placed the SIM card in HTC HD2 download settings itself and works perfect but not in my device.
My device is Toshiba Portege G810 3G, running Windows Mobile 6.1

MMS Problem

hi guys, i'm on O2 UK, and got the 'HTC Touch Curise' from exspansys.
i've received 2 mms which my phone hasn't downloaded...
not liking this idea of mms and sms in one folder, as when i want to check/change the mms settings just get the sms settings.
the phone automatically done all the settings for me when first turned on, grps works (normally in HSDPA), so not a generally connection problem, but were on my orbit and uni i had 'O2 active' settings which mms connected through that's not set, but as said above there no option (which i've found) to choose a connection setting anyway
has anyone else had the same problem? or got any ideas?
cheers guys
This one's a nightmare! I've been on the phone to O2 for the last three nights in a row for the same problem.
Each time I phone I'm told MMS wasn't properly provisioned on my account, but that they will do it for me, and I then have to wait 24 hours for it to work.
I can now send MMS, but receiving is a bit sporadic. It gets to 99% downloaded and then either it appears, or it just goes blank, and tries again.
So frustrating!
I know it's set-up because i've had this number for 2.5-3 years, it worked on my Exec, my Orbit, so why not now....
did your phone add the "O2 Active" settings now? and can you access settings for mms?
Hi,
I'm not in the Uk, and not on O2, but I had a similar problem with receiving and sending mms on my HTC cruise, which I bought last week.
Luckily I was able to solve the problem, and I can send and receive mms falwlessly now.
What you have to do is to enter the mms setings manualy, after getting them from your network's website. I'm sure you can also call customer's service and ask them for the settings (what you need is: the gateway no. , port no., server address, and sending limit)
go to start menu > messaging > tap and enter the sms\mms window, tap on menu at the lower right corner, and select mms options, tap on servers at the bottom, there you may see different settings names - tap new, and here you can enter the mms settings that you got from your network. In the "connect via" drop-down list select my ISP, wap version 2.0. Tap done, and make sure you mark your new setting as default.
This should solve the problem. At lease it solved mine
You may need a soft reset after entering the new settings.
Good luck

Yes it did, and there's a program called "O2 Settings" or similar in the program menu which reloads the settings, which I tried a number of times.
I also entered the settings manually, but they were already all correct.
From a few tests, it seems I can receive an MMS from Vodafone but not from T-Mobile. Need to test more to be 100% sure though.
MMS has been around for years now, you would think they could get it right!

NEW Touch Pro - Cant view DATA..?

Hi Guys, just receivied my NEW HTC Touch Pro and I must say... WOW! Was very surprised on how small it was. Anyway, put my SIM in (AT&T US) and charged the battery... Powered it up... It decovered my AT&T service and calls & text messages have NOT been a problem however, it says I am connected to EDGE for DATA but for some reason every time I try to set up my exchange, or surf the web under opera it will show the edge symbol connecting and it does get connected but I receive an error under both active sync and opera. IE will try to load a page and just and it will say it is opening the page but then just stop loading with a blank white screen. Could this be a proxy thing..? Has anyone seen or experienced this? I am using the stock ROM from the unlocked unit.
UPDATE: Sorry about that guys... I had to disable the proxy and I know that AT&T had proxy issues in the past but I thought I would need to configue it first in order for the DATA to work. All I did was uncheck the proxy for internet. By unchecking this, does anything else work or not work..?
go the connections tab in settings -> then Connections -> Advance -> Select Networks then on the first dropdown box make sure there is selected a connection that allows a connection to the internet without filtering ports (eg WAP connections filter most ports)
if this does not do any good it may be something with the proxies but there i don't know how to help
Funny, after I disabled the proxy (unchecked proxy for internet) I was able to get DATA thru active sync, youtube, internet, etc... but I still can NOT get the MMS to work. All the MMS settings under the server settings for MMS are correct and it will get to 100% but then just put the message in the out box. It will try to send 2 more times and then I will get an error message that says: Forbidden. Same thing when I try to receive MMS's. I can see the header for the MMS but can't d/l it. Anyone manage to get MMS working in the US..? I did try to configure the proxy under connections but as soon as I check the proxy tab, all data shuts down.

Internet connection problem !

Friends,
I am using HTC Touch. i ve installed gprs settings for vodafon india. internet is working very well. no problem in that. but when i setup a mail like yahoo or gmail at (start>messaging> outlook mail> [email protected]) . Setting is done. i can send and receive mails through wi fi , so mail setup is ok. BUT when i send and receive through our pre installed gprs settings it is not working. Message given check the internet connectivty. while through this setting i can exlore any web site through opera or internet explorer.
Any suggestion to solve this ? u ll help me a lot. as i want to set up a scheduler for mail checking and everywhere wifi is not available. my mail id is [email protected].
Thanks.
I'd call the service provider to make sure I didn't miss any settings required I forgot to use...
or maybe.. it's the ISP's problem itself.
Ive seen this before when using exchange mail. Make sure you check in settings/connections that "programs that automatically connect to internet" are you gprs settings (vodafone) whilst programs that "automatically connect to a private network" are set as my work network.
I can connect through WiFi, but not through GPRS
I have a similar problem. I've set up a POP3 account in my Outlook, and I need to be able to connect through GPRS and retrieve mail when I am away from my office.
When I choose "The Internet" in Outlook > E-mail Setup > Advanced Server Settings > Network Connections and I enable WiFi, it connects and retrieves mails.
If I switch to "Mobile Internet", it connects to GPRS when I hit "Send/Receive", but I get the following error: "Cannot connect to the incoming mail server. Be certain that the server name is correct, then try again to send and receive mail"
Is there any way to make this work through GPRS?

HTC HD2 Email Error Synchronizing

Hi All,
Sorry if the answer is somewhere I have tried my best for searching through forums but couldn't find any solution.
I have bought an HTC HD2 was on O2 but got it unlocked.
I'm using it with Orange. The internet and everything seems to work perfectly fine but I can't get emails through internet. Everytime I get the same message i.e. Error Synchronizing" cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings.
It's the same message either I try to access my yahoo email, googlemail or hotmail.
I have tried changing internet settings, email settings but no success.
Funnily enough I get email with no problems once my HTC HD2 is connected through WiFi.
I'll be very thankful to you if anyone could help my sorting out my frustration.
Thnx
Was having same problem - Try this-
Hi,
I think I was having the same problem today (HTC HD2 on T-Mobile). I had Outlook synchronization working fine to my work email, however when I tried to setup an IMAP connection to my ISP email (PlusNet) I was getting the error you mention.
After some experminentation/research I found the answer (for me):

I just had this issue on my new HTC Touch Pro (on T-Mobile UK) stock rom.
I've been pulling my hair out over this for a few hours and FINALLY solved it. For me the issue seem that when T-Mobile downloads all its settings to the phone the Internet service is called "T-Mobile Internet" where the email settings aare trying to use "Internet" (which then no longer exists).
So in short - this is how I fixed it...
At you mail inbox: Menu > Tools > Options > Click ur email account > Edit Account Setup > press Next until you get to the Outgoing (SMTP) Mail server settings page > Click the Advanced Server Settings link at the bottom > change Network connection to your internet provider instead of the default "Internet" (e.g. mine's "T-Mobile Internet") > carry on thorugh the pages until finished. It should now connect without the Error Synchronising message.
Hope this helps save someone some time somewhere!

Nice one Lloydy I was having exactly the same problem. My phone now works perfectly. I definately appreciated your post.
thanks!!
perfect man
Back to the HD2 for a minute... I have exactly this problem, and the Telstra ROM in my HD2 does not give me quite the same menu options as described above. For example there is no "advanced" option in the mail outgoing server setup page. Where else can I find it??
TIA

same here, can we have more detailed instructions on the htc hd2, there isnt and advanced option even with stock rom. Please make this clearer
I was having the same problem, only switching it to T Mobile Data instead of T Mobile Internet (which is what it was set on) worked...maybe it's just the switch and forcing the connection to recalibrate itself is what works...
Love this forum.
Thanks guys, worked great, yey!
Just figured it out and it works now - woohoo!!
To get to the "advanced" setting in the email config.
Click Start
Click email (in the programs menu page)
Highlight your email account (eg gmail)
click menu
select options
click gmail
click 'edit account setup'
click next/next/next.. until the smtp setup page
click 'advanced server settings'
select the proper network connection (eg Telstra internet)
Then done next/next/finish
And voila you can synchronise
Thanks Lloydy - I have also been pulling my hair out. Just one question though. Will emails be sent/received by wi-fi if wi-fi if is connected rather than using up data allowances of 3g/gprs. I tried going into the setting and turning off the data connection and then send/reeive email but the phone has a habit of turning the data connection back on on its own.
Another big thanks from me. Sorted my sync problem at last.
I'm on Q-Tel Hala (pre-paid) out in Qatar.
I've bookmarked this page for future reference.
Cheers, John

[Q] Messaging center number change. how ?

Been using Raphael for nearly two years on vodafone, no problems. It was a contract phone. Unlocked out of the box, flashed spl and elite rc3 the next day. also no problems whatsoever.
Now, bought another phone and let my missus have Raph. All is good and well but for the life of me i cant figure out how to add a messaging center number, since the phone cannot SEND texts. Fine with receiving though.
Whats tried:
1. Settings > Personal > Phone > Services > VMail and Text Messages > Get settings.
Result - Reading from network and then network error, reading "Cannot read settings from the network. Try viewing settings later or disconnect data connection and try again." Data connection is on, but it can be more of the same - settings are wrong for data connection. Also tried to use my wifi as data - no dice.
2. Settings > Connections > Advanced Network > SMS Setvice > set to GSM (Originally "GSM Preferred").
Other sources indicate that its HERE that should be messahing center number filled in, but there are no fillable fields apart from pulldown to change "SMS Over", options are GSM, GSM Preferred, GPRS, GPRS Preferred. And thats it...
The card i try to run is O2 Pay-Go.
I'm out of ideas. Help...
#UPDATE# Sorted !!!
