I have not been on the android wagon in awhile and I was wondering about different keyboards on the market. I really like our stock multi touch keyboard but the white theme is burning a hole in my retinas at night. Could somebody recommend a free/paid replacement? I also really like the island style buttons on the keyboard. No Skype please, I've already deleted it from the rom lol. Thanks all!
I love thumb keyboard

Really like having arrow keys to navigate around what's been typed.
I use Smart Keyboard but its not free

I like how the stock keyboard does not have a dedicated row for spelling corrections, just big old buttons on the screen.. If go keyboard does that then I'm game

Go keyboard does have it, but you wouldn't know from my screenshot cause I have it disabled. It's a highly customizable keyboard, you can even control the strength of the haptic feedback
Swiftkey
I use swift key because it has multiple theme colors and excellent predictive options. If you allow it gmail, text message, and/or facebook access it will learn how you type and make intelligent offers on what to type based your typing patterns. The other great thing is you can turn on arrows to move through what typed easier then trying to tap the proper place inside a word.

There's also Swift Keyboard - you may like that
Personally, I use SlideIt - but thats like Swype
\\\\\\\\\ F i n g e r K e y b o a r d 2 ///////// is what I used to use back in the WinMo hacking days. I'm pretty upset no one ever released it on WP7 or Android.

There have been a couple of discussion topics with regards to the keyboard on the tab and various replacements. I myself have been using a few keyboards but have finally settled on Smart Keyboard. I did however still struggle typing in landscape as my thumbs and fingers just weren't long enough. So what was the solution?
A combination of Smart Keyboard & Thumb Keyboard from the Market.
But how annoying is it switching between keyboard manually each time? This is where the fantastic keyboard switching app comes in and automatically changes your keyboard based on rotation.
All credit to ne0fhyk - you can find his application here.
I'm using SlideIT keyboard and it works perfectly, even swype works, can use primary and secondary languages, dictation... It was a must for me because the Hungarian language support...
i use two keyboards. One for each orientation. In portrait i use smart keyboard. In landscape i use thumb keyboard. I use an app called a keyboard manager that automatically changes the keyboard based on my orientation. Its the perfect setup. Here is a screenshot of thumb keyboard:

i will admit that thumb keyboard is still in development. The auto correct feature isnt working yet but the dev said hes working hard on it. I think once its done this is gonna be on popular app for tablets. It works very well on the tab. Check out my review here:

Thumb keyboard is like $1.37 in the market. It might go up once it gets popular. Check it out.

Yep, text prediction features are added just yesterday. As well as some other nice features.
Hey, i just downloaded, and am using now the thumb keyboard, but my landscape is a full keyboard, not your screenshot.
Do you know of this is a setting i can't seem to find, or maybe it was changed?
I can't imagine it would be a corrupt install. D:
Anyone?

Long-press on the keyboard icon (lower left corner). There you can change the layout to a tablet layout. The pictured landscape keyboard is the keyboard belonging to the tablet 7" layout 1 and layout 2.
Hi all, I just came from iPhone and am really missing the magnifiying glass that pops up when i want to move my text edit cursor between letters. I noticed the Droid X has this feature as well (in fact seems to work better than the iphone's).
My big thumbs can not tap accurately enough between letters, and I do not like the stock Sense kb (I'm using the Gingerbread kb).
Could anyone hook me up with this magnifying glass/cursor movement? I would be very appreciative.
I have fat fingers, too.
You know the GB keyboard you're using already has a helpful feature for this, right? It doesn't magnify anything, but those big text selector tabs just might be the best part of the GB update, lol.

hmmm i am not sure what you are talking about... The only way I know of to move is by tapping, but it is far too inaccurate.
The Gingebread keyboard has big tabs for text selection and moving the cursor. Here's an example:

Oh, Whoa!
Which Gingerbread kb are you using?? That looks sweet and I am pretty sure the one I've got does not have that function. Or if it does, I'm a fool and haven't figured out how to use it....
(I'm stock ROM with an "ruKeyboard 2.0 r19" apk)

the ones i have tried dont have it either. I did go to bestbuy and tried the nexus 2 and it had it and works great.
it isn't a feature of the gingerbread keyboard ports to 2.2, it is only available in the actual 2.3 system.
Sense at least has it in their browser.
I had the very same situation, came from iphone and was frustrated by this. Swype actually has a great text selection setup, just swype from the swype button to the sym button.

Thanks for the clarification.
Even more frustrating is that my buddy's Droid X has a similar function.
Nonetheless, one week into my EVO and loving it.
I have been craving for this kind of bluetooth slider keyboard for my Galaxy S for way too long.

yes, i am well aware of that. but none of it can be attached to galaxy s and become a slider keyboard. if you find any, i would very appreciate it if you post the links here. thanks
Good idea to start this thread. Just sent in a request to boxwave with a url to this forum, hopefully they will notice the level of interest here!
why do u need bluetooth keyboard while u can type faster with SWYPE or SLIDEIT keyboard?
last time i used to aim for only qwerty keyboard smartphone,
but after i got myself capacitive screens smartphone, i think it is not necessary for a qwerty keyboard, it is even slower

i personally do like soft keyboard, but not swype. when the screen gets smudged, swype will make it more messy.
my favourite is gingerbread keyboard, but even that gives me errors. a hard keyboard, to me, although require more practice, but will get the job done once you get used to it. i've tried and liked it.
another thing is, playing games using a hard keyboard is so much easier.

Man I hate the g2x android keyboard. I need KB setup I can custumize myself or better yet already set up to my specs. Basically I want a " return " function in ALL THE setups. I hate that when I go to text there's no return key, also an @ in all the layouts as well. I would LOVE TO have a KB layout that emulates the d2 slider . Any suggestions to something close to the d2 layout? I tried better keyboard but that sucked, just fancy buttons, no return no directional arrows... lmk

FlexT9! Never liked anything else since I started using that!
Personally, I'm still in the "tap tap tap" category, so SmartKeyboard Pro is the way to go. It looks nice, it sounds nice, and it vibrates. What's more to want?
Its customizable, apparently. I think you can tweak a lot on the keyboard. Rock solid. For those who still hammer out letter by letter.
What (in you opinion) is the best android keyboard available? My favorite would have to be Swype. it is so user friendly, you can Swype, manually type, speak, and even write what you want. What's your favorite?

Magically predicts ma next word! Correctly!
LIFE! Live it to the best!
Swype.. I don't even have to look at the keyboard and it still get my swyped words correct..
Well in my opinion the best keyboard is a physical one.
I'm still using my Desire Z, because for long messages I can use the keyboard.
As far as custom keyboards, I like the default sense keyboard. It's basic and all I need.
I like much Keymonk!

Tried many keyboards, jumped from swiftkey 3 to kii keyboard. Really awesome and supports many languages. Looks cool too!
Been on SE stock (awful), swiftkey, better keyboard, go keyboard, plain sense....since on JB, nothing comes close to stock JB.
Simply works, everything is where you expect it to be...and it'not a memory hog like some of above mentioned.

I used to be torn between Swype and Swiftkey Flow, but I'm using Swiftkey nearly exclusive after their latest update.
Sounds like I need to checkout Kii, though!
used to be touchpal
the touchpal swyping keyboard was the absolute best until they did a major update and 'forgot' about certain languages, then they abandoned it. i would have gladly paid for the app but now i'm using the incredible kii (and will be happy to pay when it comes out of beta).
so, touchpal, get your act together and fix your problems or my money will go elsewhere.
