Do NOT post a new thread without reading this first! Very important! Your post may vanish!
I've about had it! I move countless new posts each day to the General catagory!
I want to make one thing clear, if you are not developing or at least helping in the development of a rom, hack, script, driver or anything similar you probably should not post in development.
de·vel·op·ment [dih-vel-uhp-muhnt]
–noun
1.
the act or process of developing; growth; progress: child development; economic development.
2.
a significant consequence or event: recent developments in the field of science.
3.
a developed state or form: Drama reached its highest development in the plays of Shakespeare.
4.
Music . the part of a movement or composition in which a theme or themes are developed.
5.
a large group of private houses or of apartment houses, often of similar design, constructed as a unified community, esp. by a real-estate developer or government organization.
6.
Chess . the act or process of developing chess pieces.
7.
Mining . the work of digging openings, as tunnels, raises, and winzes, to give access to new workings, and of erecting necessary structures.

So since we aren't BP workers sitting around playing chess while listening to Mozart or watching Hamlet. And we're sure as hell not teachers trying to show children how to do constructions (although I can use it as a metaphore) I'm going to go out on a limb and say that #2 applies.
So unless you can create "a significant consequence or event" other than your own device then you should not post in development.
Do you have a [Q] Question?
Maybe, just maybe it might belong in the general Q&A section.
That would be this:
myTouch 3G, Magic General
Discussion about the T-Mobile myTouch 3G, HTC Magic (general Q&A, tips & tricks)
So here's the deal... for the next two weeks until further notice I am going to be very strict.
If I see a post that should not be in the development section, I will remove it completely. I won't move it, I won't warn anybody. It'll just be gone.
A few days ago I had to go and move 14 (that's fourteen) posts all at once. That's a little out of hand. These were obvious Q&A like:
What rom is the best?
What is _________ app from ________ picture?
How do I setup swap?
What is compcache?
How do I setup adb?
Why is my recovery not working?
How do I flash a new recovery?
Help me flash a new radio?
etc, etc, etc.
(These were only examples since I don't want to single anyone out.)
These are NOT development related.
Now if you made a script or an app of some kind that made these questions easier for the user then it would be development. Get it? Good! Because I'm not repeating it!
Final warning to all members!
And this goes hand in hand with this warning here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545005
Also... if you break this rule... you can find your post in two places in the trash.
First place will be in the trash.
Second place will be in this locked thread as an example of what NOT to post in the Development section.
You have been warned!

Hi,
I ROOTED my MYT3G (original) using the app UniversalAndroot.
I removed the MyFaves.apk and now, am unable to make calls due to error
"The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
I downloaded MyFaves.apk and moved it to the /system/app directory but it didnt work.
Can someone point me to the link where i can download the TMO 1.6 Stock ROM ? want to revert back to original state.
Another option I was considering was to flash CM6.0.0-RC2 using ROM manager. not sure if I should go ahead .
pointers please.

I've done a whole lot of searching, but I wanted to ask for a simplified explanation of this procedure before I start.
Current phone software versions:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0006 (SAPP30000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
May 27 2009, 19:06:41
ROM: CM6RC3
Recovery: Amon_Ra
Goal: Flash 2.22.23.02 radio onto my phone.
Issues: I have a "perfected" SPL on my phone, 1.33.0006. This means that I cannot use fastboot to flash my radio (I get the "remote: not allow" error).
Main questions:
Can I simply rename the radio file I downloaded (forum.cyanogenmod.c om/files/file/50-magic-radio-2-22-23-02zip/) to "update.zip" and flash the radio using recovery mode?
Do I need to then immediately flash a new ROM (preferably Cyanogen 6 RC3) right after flashing the radio, because flashing the radio requires a ROM flash right afterward (read that somewhere).
If the above steps are correct, do I need to do a full phone wipe? Or just cache and dalvik-cache?
Do I need to worry about compatibility between radio and ROM version? Or radio and SPL version?
OR do I need to first flash the SPL to something like 1.33.2010 (a custom, non-perfected SPL)? If so, do I follow a procedure similar to this: (forum.xda-developers.c om/showpost.php?p=5304579&postcount=4) ? I assume this SPL would allow me to use fastboot to flash the radio (negating the need to flash radio via recovery).
Just want to upgrade the radio to (supposedly) get better reception. And yes, this is a USA MT3G (1st version). Would prefer not to create a goldcard and all that jazz (which I haven't done before).
THANK YOU!

Hi!
I have a HTC magic 32B black rooted.
When I passed to froyo from eclair (with superE), my phone started to give me a lot of problems.
Is impossible to connect it to a wi-fi modem. IT START TO REBOOT IN LOOP and the only solution is remove battery... and change ROM (with a Eclair based).
In particular, when I install for example, a new froyo ROM like superfroyo 2.8.2, at the first connection with WPA2 protected network, my phone, after the typing of password, start reboot in loop. At every restart is impossible to switch off wi-fi.
Same problem with the connection at 3G network...
With Eclair there isn't problem.
Am I the only one with this problem?
What can I do for to have froyo without problems in my magic?

His first post too... now that's some way to welcome a new member huh. Oh well. Sorry... but he should have read this post. I wonder what part of "Do not post a new thread" is confusing for some people. It's gotta be the NOT.
Hello! I'm a long-time lurk and this is my first post. Why? Because you folks at XDA are extremely knowledgeable and very helpful! I actually enjoy reading the forums and usually can find my answer using search. Call me a masochist, I guess. I just wish I had the chops to develop and not just be a continuous noobish sponge. I have successfully rooted my own Inspire with Bubby’s method and have flashed several radios and ROMs, no problem (knock on wood).
Anywho, I have searched and have seen similar issues to mine, but I have what I consider a more unique problem (which, if I’m wrong, I’m sure you fine folks will let me know). I attempted to root my brother’s Inspire over the weekend and it is currently showing a black screen with three vibrations and amber light (If I try to go to Hboot manually, I get five whole vibrations with a green light). I can, though, pull the battery for 5 minutes or so, then the phone will boot normally. Although I think it’s on the downgraded ROM, because it shows the funky AT&T splashscreen instead of HTC. What I did was attempt root with Bubby’s and got stuck at the boot screen when the phone was trying to flash the PD98IMG.zip (downgrade I believe) after making the goldcard. It would show that it was trying to read the zip, however I never would get the “volume up to upgrade” option. I tried this three times. When that failed, I tried rooting with the Ace Hack Kit and after creating the goldcard image, when the script tried to reboot the phone to install the downgrade, I got the black screen, amber light with the 3 vibrations. My problem is that I don’t have root, can’t get to recovery from the Hboot screen (shows red exclamation with triangle) and was unable to install Clockworks Mod thru ROM manager because I’m not rooted, so no SuperUser privileges.
What can I do at this point? Maybe off base, but I believe I have somehow corrupted the boot partition or the like, including screwing up Hboot. Is it possible to fix this if I am not able to reboot without pulling the battery? I have tried going thru Bubby’s and the Ace kit again, but always fail when the phone reboots.
Thanks for your help!
I am far from an expert, or even a novice, but to me it sounds like you have a corrupted download for the bubbys one click.... Have you checked the Md5 on the downloaded file?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I could lie and say yes, but no I didn't check md5 the first go around (although I did the 2nd time I reinstalled, after it screwed up). I did have all antivirus programs uninstalled and firewall turned off.
It does sound like you got the downgrade rom without root. Go back to the hack kit. With the gold card in the phone, turn on usb debugging and connect to the pc in the charge only mode. Run menu number 3 in the hack kit.

@OP:
Follow the files and instructions in this post to get back to stock so u can start fresh. I followed these to get back to stock only today evening, and it worked.
--------------------
TO RETURN TO STOCK:
Make sure you S-ON (if able) BEFORE you Unroot. The S-On tool needs root permissions to function.
--------------------
Turn the phone on, connect to computer, and perform step 1. Make sure USB debugging is enabled.
Step 1 (S-On):
Run Bubby323's S-On tool: S-On Tool
Step 2 (STOCK ROM in ZIP FORMAT):
Place this .zip file on the root of your SD card. Disable fast boot in settings > applications. Turn off your phone. Hold down the volume down button and the power button at the same time. The phone will reboot into hboot. It will load the ROM automatically. Follow the steps to flash the ROM.
http://www.multiupload.com/JELMZNSKDF
I did this like a couple hours back, and mine's back to stock.
Note: I consolidated the links here from various posts on this forum.
Diablo: Was posting the reply below, when I saw your message. Would you still recommend I follow your steps to unroot, return to stock and run hack again?
Update: Well, I went thru Bubby’s root process again and was able to get the phone rooted (had to pull battery and wait 4 minutes when it needed to reboot). And I have confirmed root was successful. I also used Bubby’s fix to Eng S-Off (couldn’t hurt, right?). The phone now has the latest Android Revolution with Sense and the radio has been flashed (including full wipe and EXT4 wipe). However, it STILL won’t reboot correctly. I can boot directly into Clockwork from ROM Manager, but if I try to reboot normally (hold down power button and select restart), I get the black screen, amber light and 3 vibrations. Again, pull battery and wait 4 minutes and either power button to boot normally or power and volume down to get to Hboot works fine and goes to Clockwork from Hboot fine also. I guess I can keep up with the batter pull only when I have to manually restart, but WTH? There has got to be a fix for the reboot issue. Any ideas?

Well, actually, wrong, it could hurt. I'm not saying that's the cause of your problems, but you really should've read up a little more before clicking on stuff so nonchalantly.
Eng s-Off means the engineering bootloader. If that process were to fail while in the midst of performing it on your phone, it would most likely hard-brick it.
Not to mention it's unnecessary. It was only included in that rooting method at the time for flashing radios, I believe, and since then a safer method for doing so has come into standard usage that doesn't require eng s-Off.
It's also one method of resolving the cwr blackscreen people were having, where you're actually in cwr, but the screen is black so you can't see what your doing. Not the same black screen your seeing, I don't think, because you're able to at least get into cwr.

Fernandezhjir: I understand your sentiment, however my situation does seem to be a little different than the other posts, so there may be hope yet.
Scott: You're absolutely right (as if you need me to confirm that) that it could hurt. My sarcasm didn't come over very well without a wink-smiley or the like. As I mentioned before, I have read the forums and the other posts on the difference between radio s-off and eng s-off and how dangerous it can be. Actually Bubby's program fairly adequately describes that taking that step can possibly brick your phone and when you should consider taking the risk. I was desperate and dumb and poking fun at myself in my post.
Any advice with my current situation? Everything on the phone is working fine unless I try to normal restart, then I get the amber light with 3 vibrations. Again, battery pull for 4+ minutes then resinsert and power works and I can get to Hboot and Clockwork okay.

Heh. Now that you explain it, I can see the sarcasm. I'm usually good a picking up on it, but you know how these internet textual posts go....smilies are crucial...
As to your problem, there seem to be a few posts in recent days describing the led/vibrations type of symptom.
I don't know if they're interrelated or not. I don't have an answer, but I'm curious and will drop in if I manage to come across any pertinent information.
Thanks for the replies! I will continue to research and update this thread if I find a solution. I really believe that it has something to do with the startup processes or boot cache or some other $10 phrase related to what happens when the phone is attempting to startup normally. I appreciate all help.

Just wanted to add a quick update for anyone searching that comes across this post: The phone in question is now working flawlessly (knock on wood). Restarting, power down and battery pulls work with no problems (no vibrations or flashes). I am honestly unsure what I did to cause this error or what the resolution was and can only speculate. Since my last post, I have made a Nandroid backup and flashed a couple ROMs (namely AR with Sense, then Virtuous Unity with full wipes in between), so I assume that somewhere in there the corrupted boot files (or whatever) were corrected. All's well that ends well...
Here is just something to add to everyone's good advice that you received. Search for the RUU in the development section. It can fully restore your phone back to stock out of the box condition. In situations such as this it is worth having saved on your computer.

Not quite true. If you've rooted and have S-OFF, that will survive a complete RUU update. You have to S-ON your device before applying the RUU if you want true "out-of-the-box" restoration.
seems like you got yourself a good taste of rom flashing issues. that's a good thing. i know that you have everything working flawlessly now, BUT i would still HIGHLY recommend that you download the Super Wipe script from the Android revolution thread and use that to completely wipe and format your partitions, then do a FULL wipe through clockwork and then install whatever ROM you would like. but i cant stress enough, MAKE SURE that the Md5 sums match always. this can be the difference between a working rom and a bricked phone. also i would like to add that through my experience i usually find that the first time you root the inspire, the very first rom you install on it almost always has issues. that's how it is for me atleast. Ive rooted plenty of Inspire's and all of them have had some sort of issue on the first flash. and as always, follow the directions per rom to the T or else it might not work.
P.S. Some roms run better with matching Radio and RIL. flashing these is AWLAYS good practice to get your phone to tunr the best possible.

Thats why I posted the full steps in the guide , to s-on and ruu back to stock. On a side note bubbies s-on tool does not always work.
On another side note, Genepoole would be interested in wrighting a script for the s-on/return t stock process to make it a little more automated? The steps right now are flashing back to stock then re rooting, then entering gfree s-off on then re running the ruu.

I have actually considered this. The current methods require a complete downgrade just like rooting when all you really need for gfree to work is the radio and kernel from the downgrade ROM.

You are correct. I should have re phrased that differently. I know that S-Off would survive the RUU procedure so I should have said "almost out of the box". The RUU is still a very handy thing to have.

Please, sir.
Seriously, this would be, imo, a profound contribution to this phone.
Hi everybody. I'm starting a new thread because there are quite a few issues on this phone and I wanted your help in understanding them.
I'm using an Orange HTC desire S which I bought from a local market in India. This was about six months back and it picked up my Vodafone sim easily so i presumed it had some kind of Sim unlocker.
PROBLEM 1
Fast forward to a few days back when I thought getting root access would be fun and would enable many more options. I booted into recovery mode and here is where the first problem kicks in.
When I boot using the volume + power button option, my phone tells me it's S-OFF and then proceeds(on its own) to a different menu. It shows two options only.
1. Device info
2. Clean S58 data
There's no way at all to return to the previous screen here on. It gets stuck here because option 1 gives me general data about the phone and option 2 runs what seems like the sim unlock problem, tells me there's no update and returns to the same menu. I'm always(2 attempts) left with only the battery pull option which invariably clears all the data on my phone and works like a hard reset.
I also tried this without the memory card and got stuck at the black screen with the red exclamation mark.
Can someone tell me what's wrong here and what I need to do to get root access.
PROBLEM 2
This is more of a confusion I face. Most of my friends using the Desire S have got the sense 3.0 update but my phone is still running on 2.1 and tells me it is up to date. On the forum, most people seem to have received the 2.3.5 and the 3.0 update. Why am I not getting it?
Is it because i'm not on the orange network or is it something else(like s off)?
What do i need to do to get the updates in India?
Thanks for reading.
Can someone tell me what's wrong and how I should proceed?

Sukrit, most of your answers are within your questions. I've highlighted them in Red...
First of all, just because you purchased it in India (Somewhere like Gaffar Market, etc) doesn't mean it's from HTC India. HTC software update doesn't look at what sim card you're using to allot upgrades to your phone... It localises you depending on the software shipped with the phone.
Secondly, your phone is an Orange branded device and unlocking stuff is usually more troublesome and dangerous on branded devices... As for the solution to PROBLEM 1 as posted by you, look inside your sd card for a file named PG88IMG.zip. If you find it, back it up on your pc and delete it from the sd card. See if that helps, as having an update zip on your memory card will force your bootloader to flash it whether you want it to do so or not... Let's call it the phone's "instinct" to flash the PG88IMG.zip if it finds it while in bootloader.
I also suggest you read the Guides in the general section carefully, especially the warning about branded devices... But since you say you're s-off, half the battle is already won and i think you'll be okay to root.
As for the battery pull, it does not reset your phone data my friend... your data will all be safe and all it does is a soft reset, NOT a hard reset. You are more likely to fry your eMMC chip doing that... and that would be a MUCH bigger problem, as i'm kinda sure your phone doesn't even have a distant cousin called "warranty"
Let me know if you found an update zip on your sd card like i mentioned above, and we'll pick it up from there.
Cheers. Hope i can be of help.
Thanks a lot for answering and helping me with my problem.

I've understood this but does it also mean that unless i'm on the Orange network, I won't get the update?
Also, great guess on where I got the phone from

I understand. There are two files that i think are relevant.
1. HTC-ANDROID-GOLD_CARD. I haven't put this in as far as I remember. Size-0 bytes.
2. PG88DIAG.nbh. I'm presuming this is the file you were talking about? There is a slight difference in name, though.
I also suggest you read the Guides in the general section carefully, especially the warning about branded devices... But since you say you're s-off, half the battle is already won and i think you'll be okay to root.

This is what is weird,Amit. If I pull the battery when the phone is at the device info and clear s58 data screen, it always hard resets. All software/contacts,basically anything on the phone memory disappears. Why does this happen?
If you think this behavior is normal then i'll remove the file in the memory card and try again.
Thanks a ton!

Why don't we start by removing the PG88DIAG file from the sd card (back it up on PC), and also the GOLD CARD file, which obviously was used by the nefarious Gaffar guys to s-off your phone...,
This will hopefully give you access to bootloader and fastboot so you can root and flash a custom recovery. Once you've done that, you can flash whatever ROM you like.
I'd recommend Endymion if you want the best possible sense 3.5 experience...
Let me know if removing those two files allows you to remain in bootloader and access recovery...
Hey Amit. Removing the two files has worked fine. Thanku
What steps should i take now to get root access?
Or, can I just load the orange ROM available on the other thread without rooting?

Congrats buddy!
Firstly, you cannot flash a custom ROM without a custom recovery...
To obtain root access, you can use Gingerbreak.apk
I suggest you just flash a custom recovery (I personally recommend 4EXT Recovery) via fastboot or you can simply use 4EXT Recovery updater app (free) or 4EXT Recovery Control app (paid, check my signature for link), then take a nandroid backup of your current ROM, and then Flash a Custom ROM.
You don't have to stick to Orange ROMs... you can flash whatever ROM you want... I highly recommend Endymion, but the choice is ultimately yours to make...
Glad you got this far... happy times ahead for you!!

Yup, everything seems to be fine. Go ahead and root your phone... flash 4EXT Recoery via 4EXT Recovery Updater app, and then after taking a backup, and doing a full wipe, flash whatever ROM you want to...
Read the instructions and guides carefully in the general and Development section prior to this, and remember...DO NOT REMOVE THE BATTERY WHILE THE PHONE IS STILL ON! It's better to try other methods to reboot it, or even let it discharge over time and switch off by itself, rather that attempt to pull battery. Othert than this, i think you're ok to flash a new ROM, and enter the amazing world of custom ROMs...
Hey. I decided to be a little experimental and just couldn't wait either; installed revolutionary and i've got root access. Ha!
Thanks so much for your help.

i've also installed clockwork.

Congrats!
If you want a Sense 3 ROM, go for Hyperion
For Sense 3.5 (My personal favourite) go for Endymion
For crazy theming options, you can try MIUI from MIUI.us
If you like plain stock look.... Cyanogenmod.
I would however still recommend Endymion (Though i like v2.2 better than v3)
P.S. Just a friendly question... Gaffar me kitne ka pada ye phone? I bought my phone new...but my wife wants one now and i don't want to put in the money for a new phone from a mobile store...
i'll get endymion then, should follow your advise since you've helped so much. Do i need to make any changes to the hboot/radio?
and should i get both 3.1 and the add on package?
yaar, it'll be a lot cheaper now. when i bought it tab market price was around 22.5. I got it for 16.5 with box and accessories. At that time, there were only two shops that had the desire S and this was the only one that functioned properly.
i'm pretty sure you can get it for less than 13k now.
I'll try n get you the shop's name and number. i've bought both the desire and the desire s from him and they've worked well.

You can get the v3.1 without the addon initially. See how it works for you... Then you can flash the addon package if you feel like Modding the ROM. I'm still on v2.2 because I didn't feel the need to upgrade.
Please do get me the number of your guy in gaffar as I'm planning to get a galaxy note as well as a desire s...
Beamed from the Dark Side using xda premium.
Hey. Looked everywhere for the number but I just can't find it. Awfully sorry, man.
I don't know if you've ever been to Gaffar before but just incase you haven't,do ensure that you buy from a proper shop and not people with cabinets full of phones. These guys will offer you cheaper prices but will also disappear in a couple of days.
There are only 5-6 big shops which sell import phones, most of them are decent and will offer you a week or two worth of hardware guarantee. Enough for you to atleast test the phone out.

Which stock Sensation XE rom has the least amount of bloatware?
The question pretty much sums it up. I just got a Sensation XE, Hong Kong model. It has a lot of crap software on it: youni sms, xda assistant, 通通电话,baidu, kuwo player, and all this other Chinese crap. I hate Chinese software with passion. If skynet was/is real, I believe it would be running a Chinese OS. Chinese software naturally tries to take over your computer or phone.
I want to switch to the stock rom with the least amount of junk on it. If it also has a good Chinese/English keyboard with handwriting input that is a plus.
Also, just to make sure I'm on the right track, this is what should be done before I can change roms, right?
1) Get S-off
2) Install Clockwork Mod
3) Get permanent root
4) Write super cid
5) Change Stock Rom

the steps are fine ..but 3rd step is not required ...and 2)better have 4EXT recovery ..its better imho and between 4 and 5 there might be one more step ..which can only be decided after you told the current rom you are having (if running gb now ..for ICS you need to flash 3.32/3.33 firmware ..then ROM)
as for the ROM ..for simple STOCK like and fully customized with bloat removed ..try ARHD, insert coin or Elegancia
Hi,
If you go through the steps you mentioned:
1) Get S-off
2) Install Clockwork Mod (Try to get a PG58IMG.zip version of it, saves having to fastboot flash it)
3) Get permanent root
4) Write super cid
5) Change Stock Rom
You could stop at step3 and manuall delete stuff off the ROM you have. OR, what I'd probably do), and as mentioned you can skip step 3 if you're installing a new ROM. Go for a WWE (World Wide English) RUU if you want to keep completely Stock, you can then run ROMcleaner to remove some redundant crap.
Look for something like: RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5_Radio_11.69. 3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_246089_signed.exe
It's ICS with Sense 3.6. The 401 in the above means it's WWE and will either need SuperCID (11111111) or HTC__001, it's completely unbranded.
You can find ROMcleaner at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217664
Thanks for the replies. I know I can root and then uninstall system apps. I don't really like doing that because you just don't know what else has been done to the rom. This Hong Kong rom won't let me use stock SMS (I know how to select default SMS program, it doesn't work on this rom) and doesn't have stock browser (it has some chinese version of Opera), is asking me if I want to invite my contacts to join all kinds of stupid networks, gets involved with my text messages, has some Chinese antivirus that keeps complaining, and all kinds of other crap. It's the worst rom I've ever seen. The WWE appears to be what I'm looking for. It's unbranded and shouldn't have carrier or region specific stuff. Youtube and other apps that don't ask me questions I can deal with.
I want root, for all of it's obvious benefits. I usually run stock, rooted and custom kernal with GPU overclock. But I'm not so sure I like sense, but I want to try a cleaner rom before I decide on sense.
I'm guessing I don't need to do the OTA update before I start the process. I also saw there were some special procedures for the latest ICS. I'll deal with that bridge when I get there. For now I just need a clean rom that doesn't bombard me with useless Chinese crap.

There are a few WWE GB ROMs out there, the one I mentioned is pretty slick as it's ICS which seems to work better IMHO.
The following is mentioned in post 1776 and there abouts in the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Pyramid
The OP has filefactory as the repository but it never worked for me so I gave up on it, looks like others had the same issue.
Just get a Europe one xxx.401.xxx. Avoid 1.24 if you want to go through OTA updates, I had issues with that, might have been me but .....
The ROMcleaner thing I mentioned is pretty good at removing the HTC extra stuff.
Of course, there are a few very nice custom ROMs out there. I was using Virtuous Inquisition (AOSP look and feel based on Sense but de-sensed as much as possible). I've not tried ARHD/IC and some of the others for a long time so can't comment on them.
Have fun and GL on your quest.
EDIT:
P.S. after applying the RUU you'll need to re-install CWM (again easiest was is if you have a PG58IMG.zip version of it) and then apply the root. It looks like the best root at the moment is SuperSU (reading some posts here from EddyOS).
Thanks again. I'm downloading:
RUU_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.105_R2_Radio_11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_253443_signed.exe
Now that I look again the 3.33 version is available, I probably should have downloaded that.
I've already got: ADB drivers, HTC Sync, HTC driver, java, pg58img(recovery.img), CMW 5.0.2.0, revolutionary-0.4pre4, su-2.3.63-efgh, and the unbrick stuff in case something goes wrong. Once I finished downloading the firmware I should be ready to go. I'll double check that all the files are good, re-read all the instructional threads, and then get started. My phone doesn't have a warranty, so I have to make sure everything is done correctly the first time.
I also found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Will I need to flash this as well?
HTC phones are so much more complicated compared to the other phones I've rooted and flashed. On my Huawei phone you plugged the phone in to the computer, copied two files, and you were rooted and had CWM installed.

The 3.32 contains the 1.27.0000 HBOOT which can be unlocked (just done it myself). The 3.33 contains 1.29.0000 which at the moment cannot be unlocked.
As you're already S-OFF it probably doesn't make much difference. I'm on 3.32 at the moment, I don't know what the differences are between 3.32 & 3.33, I assume minor bug fixes.

Does the PG58IMG.zip you mention contain CWM 5.0.2.0 ?, I usually keep a copy about called PG58IMG-CWM5020.zip, then change the name when I want to install it. The reason I ask is that PG58IMG.zip is a generic name and can be used for many things. You'll need to pop the uSD card when it asks you to reboot.

No the RUU is self contained and includes the firmware/radio. You might want to install HBOOT 1.27.0011 afterwards, IRC it allows fastboot commands. I think it's in that thread.

Good point. I'll add that to the list of steps so I don't forget.
1) Setup ADB/fastboot

5) Get permanent root
6) Write super cid
7) Change Stock Rom
Unfortunately the rom didn't download correctly, so looks like I won't be installing the rom tonight.

The nandroid backup is via ClockworkMod, not certain what you're backing up through ADB/fastboot. Guess you could get Radio/Recovery etc. Never tried it myself, I like a simple life
There is no point applying SuperSU until after you have installed the new Stock ROM. You can change the CID directly with fastboot, it doesn't need root for that.
Shame about the download, at least the steps look about right.
Eek, I thought you already had S-OFF ? What HBOOT are you on at the moment ? If it's 1.18.0000 or earlier revolutionary.io is perfect, if it's later it's a different process.
Note that when you install the new stock rom via RUUxxxx.exe, it'll splat the custom recovery so it'll need to be re-applied.
Umm, I booted into HBOOT to get my HBOOT version and at the top of the screen it says:
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT 1.17.008
RADIO-10.11.9007.15_M
That mean I already had S-OFF, right? Well that was easy.
Actually the phone was smuggled into China to avoid taxes. The sellers probably had to get S-OFF to put a Chinese language rom on there. Which also would explain all the extra bloatware, probably was installed by the same people.
Also, I wasn't able to pull the images through ADB. Have to wait until after rooted.
UPDATE: Installed CWM, backing up now, then root. So far so good. I'll probably have to settle for using Titanium Backup to remove the unwanted apps for now. The second try at downloading the RUU also failed.
UPDATE: Rooted, through it probably was already rooted. Also checked the CID and it was already 11111111. Thanks Chinese smugglers. You did all the work for me. Now to finish uninstalling all the crap you put on my phone.
So actually, the only work I did was install the SU and backup my system.
Nice to see it going smoothly for you, and remember if you want to install ics, you need to flash a ics firmware 3.32 or 3.33. Or you'll be in a boot loop.

As you say that was easy.
There are other sites that you can download 3.32.401 from as it's fairly common, have a look.
As you have a nandroid backup that you can recover back to if needed you can also try ROMcleaner.
I'm going to try a Jelly Bean ROM tomorrow so my nandroid backup will be vital )
A really nice fairly lightweight ROM is Virtuous Inquisition. As I said it's AOSP look and feel but has Sense backend, it's been de-sensed as much as possible.
Anyway Have Fun.

The RUU will contain everything you need and update firmware, Radio, Recovery, HBOOT, ..... and of course the ROM.
Remember it'll flatten the ROM so all saved messages, WiFi details etc. will be lost.
If for some reason you need to revert back to your existing ROM you'll need to downgrade the firmware to 1.17.0008, including the radio. I doubt you'll bother though when you're on 3.32.

If it's that urgent you should spend time familiarize yourself with the search button. There is Asskicker's guide how to flash roms with s-on in the general forum. Plus I gave you a link to RUU's in the other thread you posted in.

Hi
I dont understand what u saied??
What can I do?
So, i was here back when the phone came out, unlocked the bootloader and got a few Roms in the start, and ended up with Paranoid Android V2.54 i believe, and never really cared about looking for anything new since i thought it was pretty good, and i enjoy as close to stock as possible. But now my phone is getting really slow, and i need a change. And getting back onto the forums here im just really intimidated by the amount of Roms, the term S-OFF and Kernel. I generally know the basics i suppose, but when i was installing Roms back in the early days of the HTC one S it was as easy as getting the rom on the SD card an flashing it. Im probably coming off as a bit stupid here, but i dont wanna brick this phone just because i did one thing wrong.
So where im getting at is, what Rom should i go for? I just need something easy to install, and nothing super flashy. As said earlier, i enjoy the stock android, and i wouldnt mind getting the newer version of android aswell. So give me some pointers, and feel free to give me the details on how to flash it as i havent done this in a while

First thing you should tell us some more info about your phone, just to know better what guides and adices we should give you:
1. Phone model: S4 or S3 (is it with dual core krait 1.5 Ghz or with older dual core 1.7 Ghz processor?)
2. What hboot/firmware do you have, what radio, are your bootloader locked or not (at HTC Dev site)...in fact we need all the info that you have on your bootloader screen (power off phone then keep pressed VOLUME DOWN while pressing POWER)
3. What recovery do you use (CWM or TWRP) and what version?
4. Finally but not least....WHAT DO YOU WANT? A Sense ROM, an AOSP ROM, do you want latest Android version (4.4.2 KitKat) or it doesn't matter to you...things like this. You said something about this but maybe give more details
Then we might have some guides for you and some advices and you could choose among them based on your pers preference :good:

1. According to Quadrant i have a CPU Frequency of 1512MHz, so by definition that should make it a S4
2. For recovery, im almost 100 percent sure its SuperSU, and heres the details from my bootloader:
VLE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.06.0000
RADIO-0.15.315018.19
OpenDSP-v21.1.0.32.0314
eMMC boot
Mar 15 2012.23:37;23
And yes i used HTC Dev website to unlock it. got some sort of key and everything.
3. The recovery i use atm is CWM 5.8.3.1 the none touch version. Tried the touch version a few times, but it doesnt seem to work for me.
4. For ROM as i mentioned i really like AOSP, and can't really see myself going for a Sense ROM unless there's something really awesome out there. Ive used CM 9 and 10, AOKP, ParanoidAndroid and one of those Pac-man ROMs before, and they have all been decent. But now i want something newer. Preferably something over 4.1.2 as ive had that for probably a year now, and i need SOMETHING new. I dont particularly want anything that isn't as complete as possible. The ROM im rocking now reboots my phone ATLEAST 1-2 times a day, and have some minor Wi-Fi issues. (not really that bad anymore after buying an expensive new ASUS Router)
So those are like my only things when it comes to ROMs. Doesnt need to be as flashy as coming with a completly themed interface and that sorts
I like CM11. It seems to running ok, but better check the latest in the thread.

OK, I got more info now, maybe some others will step in and give you their opinions and advices. What I can tell
1. SuperSU is not a recovery (you already said you're using CWM)...it's the root program.
2. You have hboot 1.06 the same I had on my device some time ago (not too long ago). It has some advantages and some disadvantages. I'll try to be brief and prsent you all and you can decide what you wanna do.
First some background: S-Of basically means you are able to write to certain partitions on your device, partitions that are normally locked. Most important are the firmware/hboot partition, radio partition and kernel partition. If you are S-On, you cannot write/flash radio or firmware and you MUST flash any kernel via a separate command in fastboot.
Now what makes 1.06 hboot so special...it is behaving like a partial S-Off device even if you are not S-Off. What does this mean? You will be able to flash radios and kernels as any other S-Off user. Only thing you won't be able to flash is the firmware/hboot. On the other hand, all new ROMs require hboot 2.13/2.15 or the leaked 2.16. That means that IF your current hboot allows you to run such a ROM, you won't be able to flash it unless you're editting EVERY TIME the updater-script in the ROM ZIP you're flashing to bypass the hboot check. So things will become little bit complicated.
To avoid all these you should first S-Off then you should upgrade to hboot 2.15. This is the last official firmware and it is supported by all new KitKat ROMs. DO NOT flash 2.16 firmware unless you would like to flash and use Sense based ROMs like MaximusHD.
I made S-Off by using Rummrunner because I found it the simplest way to do it...it's like a one-press-S-Off. If that doesn't work for you, you can try other methods like Facepalm or Moonshine. You can find separate threads for each in Dev section and I'll also link them below
Rummrunner
Facepalm
Moonshine
After you made S-Off, next step will be to upgrade your hboot/firmware to 2.15. You can use the flashable ZIP from THIS thread and you'll find info on how to do it in the thread. I would suggest you to choose the Unbranded 2.15 hboot and that has also the red warning gone (the one you see when start up the device with "This device is for development purposes only...bla bla bla")
For all the above you might also want to check/try a tool that incorporates most of them. You can find it in THIS thread.
Now that you have S-Off and upgraded your hboot, you might want to flash a newer radio. Hint:If you're satisfied with your current signal strength, mobile data and so on, don't flash another radio. Even if in a ROM thread it is recommended or mandatory a certain radio, my advice is to first try the ROM with your current one and only if performance is not satisfactory, flash another radio. You can find radios in tecardo's thread HERE or if you want the newer radios you can find radio 1.20 HERE or 1.35a HERE. One more note regarding tecardo's thread with the radio collection...that thread is old and some info is not updated. Just remember that you must flash ONLY the V6 Sense Radio installer for any ROM you'll be using, being it sense based or AOSP. Also ignore that warning that the procedure is only for hboots below 1.3...at that time there was no S-Off (remember what I've said about the particularities of 1.06 hboot earlier). Now things are different, you're S-Off so you will just need to flash it
Before flashing, you might consider upgrading to a newer recovery. I would recommend you the latest official TWRP 2.7.0.0 that will support flashing anything made for hboot 2.15. If and only if you decide to try sense ROMs based on hboot 2.16, you'll need a different recovery specific for 2.16 and that you'll get from that specific ROM thread. Official TWRP downloads for Ville S4 are HERE
Now youre almost done. You just need to pick your ROM and flash it...pretty difficult task considering how many they are. I tested most of AOSP ones and also some Sense based ones (not the ones for hboot 2.16 tho). I don't want to advice too much here since it could be considered I favour one or another...the truth is I do and that's normal, but I'd like to be objective
First, all KitKat ROMs are pretty stable. On CM11 there are regular nightlies and there are also less stable or bugged builds but this is expected. So you might try several ROMs to see which suits you most and you can decide by reading each ROM's thread. I'll list some ROMs (not all), the ones that are updated most often and I've tested, in no particular order...in fact I'll list them alphabetically to avoid interpretations
AOSP based
Beanstalk
CandyKat
CM11
Infamous (IOAP)
PAC-Man
TwistedKat
Vanir
Sense based
Viper ROM 3.1.3
Liberty ROM
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to get most in a single place and if you'll have more questions we'll detail them later. Just try something... READ READ READ...each thread contains valuable info about each procedure and step and also the experience of the users. I know it is easier to ask but don't forget it's YOUR PHONE and YOUR INTEREST to see things working on it. So you should make some effort to read and search also
Good luck
I've read the entirety of your post now, and it's definetly helpful!
As it's pretty late here atm, i will come back to the tread tomorrow and S-Off and all that jazz. Im not a complete moron on this area, allthough thats what it probably seemed like Im glad i asked before i did anything, cause this was alot more complicated then when i was flashing ROMs when the phone came out.
I will definetly try to hold on to my current Radio as i have had no complaints ever on connection and service. So thanks for telling me about that, otherwise i would probably have flashed a new one each time.
Ill be sure to keep you posted on my progress tomorrow, just incase i totally **** up or something, or just cant get myself to understand something. If it is as easy to flash ROMs as it used to be once im ready to flash again, ill figure out my Next ROM, so im grateful that you listed a few of them that i can try out.
Again i wanna thank you for taking the time to explain a total Noob how to go about doing this, i really appreciate it!
rapier's post just about expresses all the basic info you need, couldnt have been put better!!
as far as going on to the newer sense based roms i'd suggest not to take that road yet as they require hboot 2.16 and it can get fairly tricky to go back to the previous hboot.
also for hboot 2.15 also you have more choice for roms available... just a point of view!!
happy flashing!!
So, now im totally lost. did the S-off, and now im trying to do the firmware, but im clueless here as i cant find the folder adb/fastboot in my platfomr-tools sdk folder or whatever you wanna call it. It wants me to place the firmware inside the adb folder, and i cant find any folder with that name.
I followed a guide on how to get adb working on my computer as i did not have that anymore on my PC, so had to redo it.
was following the guide, and did not see this "2. Now place the Firmware_named_something.zip into your adb/fastboot folder" at first, and tried to flash and was welcomed with cannot open "named file here" for obvious reasons when i saw step 2.
but this step 2 is what is confusing me, as ive mentioned, there is no adb/fastboot folder. is this a folder i make somewhere in my sdk? or what am i missing here. to give you the full info, i used this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752270
the second post.
i remember having fastboot in that sdk folder on my old PC, but did not get it this time around when following these instructions, maybe thats what im missing

ADB/fastboot are not folders, are commands. What that instruction meant was to place the firmware zip in the same folder where your ADB/fastboot executable is. Usually this is in "android-sdk/platform-tools". You'll notice there the ADB and fastboot executables

OMG! That makes more sense, still that sentence he used in the guide was pretty misleading though. literally tried making a fastboot folder with the .exe in alot of different folders xD
Will try that one out and see if it works! Thanks, AGAIN!
EDIT:
Just tried to put the firmware inside C:/android/sdk/platform-tools/ folder, but still i got
"Error: Can not open 'Fuu_Downgrade2.15_Unbranded.zip'
EDIT:
Turns out there was a program instead of a .exe :s just tried though, and it failed.
"FAILED (rempote: 99 unknown fail)
EDIT:
Apparently the S-OFF didnt work. Tried Rumrunner, as i didnt understand jack **** about the alternatives
EDIT:
Tried Facepalm aswell, not 100 percent sure if i did it right though, as there was no confirmation anywhere, but still no S-OFF
