[Q] upgrading from touchwiz 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 - General Questions and Answers

My phone is the lg g2x. I'm currently on the weapon g2x custom, available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207125
That custom rom comes with touchwiz 2.3.3. Package name is com.sec.android.app.twlauncher.
However on the cyanogenmod nightly take 2 mod, they don't include this. The custom rom is available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108201
So I tried to install the twlauncher from here by installing twmanager 4 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883
I selected the cyanogenmod version from the menu and then launched it. However since it is a completely different application to android, I can't restore the settings that were backed up for 2.3.3. How do I transfer the settings from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5? I much prefer twlauncher.

ANDROID (stock) CONTACTS

I'd like to install Android Contacts instead of (or plus) HTC Contacts.
I'v tryed to install a Contacts.apk (from Desire (not S) ROM "Ginger Villain 2.1" ), but it won't install (it worked for Gallery3Dm.apk ).
anyone got an idea ?
PS: my phone is not rooted and s-ON
thanks
since this is a sense rom you are running it is not possible to use the stock android apps without root.
the stock android contacts app is included in our system folder, but the sense contact app is a kind of overlay for the stock app. it´s based in the sense framework.
that means even with root it is very difficult to use stock apps instead of the sense counterpart.
i think it is easier to build a AOSP-based ROM than building a "de-sensed" ROM based on a sense ROM.

New to rooting with this phone

I have rooted 3 phones prior to this one. I have it all set up and running Refuse 1.7. I have seen that there are a good load of roms available for the infuse 4g. Many of them say 2.3.5, etc. Is that the android version needed by the phone before installing the rom? I am on 2.2.1 and am worried about installing any other rom, than one which has froyo in the name leaving me with only 3 choices. Any help would be appreciated I want to try a miui rom or something else from here but am worried that since I have 2.2.1 when I install one that has 2.3 in its name I will brick.

No bro, the " 2.3.5" or "2.3.6" its that ROMs Android version, not the one needed to install it, still you do need a modified recovery to easily install a custom rom. I would personally recomend this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220088
as a good guide for new guys trying to install custom roms since the instructions are very detailed and hardly would give you trouble. After installing that rom you would have gathered the necessary knowledge to choose your next rom like MIUI or CM7 or another samsung Infuse rom or Samsung port to Infuse.

Overcome 7 v4.0.0 Edition Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM

Hi guys, I would like to share my experience on rooting and flashing the custom firmware on my P1000.
Initially, my P1000 was preloaded with froyo 2.2.
I flashed my P1000 to the gingerbread 2.3.3 and subsequently upgraded to v2.3.5.
The major difference between 2.3.3 & 2.3.5 is the lock in screen. 2.3.5 no longer have the fixed slider at the lockin screen, to unlock, just touch anywhere of the screen and you will see 2 circle lines, and then slide out of the 2nd circle will do.
A few days ago, I degraded my P1000 back to 2.3.3 and flashed with Overcome 7 v4.0.0 edition rom.
It is working extremely fine and fast, still monitoring it, but so far face no problem at all.
Thanks guys for the overcome 7 rom. Fantastic.
I am looking ahead at Honeycomb custom rom for P1000.

OVERCOME 4.0 is great. But I think CM7 or MIUI are also fast and fine, with more freedom. You should lookong ahead at ICS, personally I think the Honeycomb custom rom is meaningless now.
Reports are allways good.....
But you have used the wrong thread group. Please use this thread and report it there.
Because this thread group is only for apps and themes, NOT for roms. Thank you

[Q] Is there a ROM which retains the Sidekick UI?

Hello all,
I have a sidekick 4g with stock ROM.
I want to flash a custom ROM, but at the same time don't want to lose the Sidekick UI. I love the UI since its unique.
1) Are there ROMs which retain the Sidekick UI?
(Gingerclone looks similar to the Sidekick UI)
2) If majority answer is YES to the above question,
Are there ROMs which go for the Android Vanilla look (away from SKG UI)?
3) What are the gingerbread ROMs available?
4) Is there an ICS port available?
5) What are the pros and cons of having a custom ROM?
6) Will there be random reboots after installing custom ROMs?
Please help! (Basic questions, I know )
sammydude
1) Several ROMs have the stock UI.
2) I've seen tons of custom themed ROMs, but I'm not sure about vanilla Android ones.
3) There are no Gingerbread ROMs available.
4) There are no Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs available.
5) The pros tend to be better stability and performance. Since we haven't been able to build a fully custom ROM from AOSP/CM/etc, we're limited to tweaking the stock ROM. In stock form our ROM is pretty buggy and loaded down with crap. Custom ROMs tidy it up.
6) Depends on the ROM.
I suggest MrKickstand's Back To The Basics. It retains the stock theme and speeds things up.

The current version has a few minor bugs, but you can fix them yourself. I noted a few of them and their solutions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22547395&postcount=80
Thank you so much, Jax! Now I'm game to try out Kickstand's TRON ROM! Tron theme is an added incentive!!
