I have rooted 3 phones prior to this one. I have it all set up and running Refuse 1.7. I have seen that there are a good load of roms available for the infuse 4g. Many of them say 2.3.5, etc. Is that the android version needed by the phone before installing the rom? I am on 2.2.1 and am worried about installing any other rom, than one which has froyo in the name leaving me with only 3 choices. Any help would be appreciated I want to try a miui rom or something else from here but am worried that since I have 2.2.1 when I install one that has 2.3 in its name I will brick.

No bro, the " 2.3.5" or "2.3.6" its that ROMs Android version, not the one needed to install it, still you do need a modified recovery to easily install a custom rom. I would personally recomend this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220088
as a good guide for new guys trying to install custom roms since the instructions are very detailed and hardly would give you trouble. After installing that rom you would have gathered the necessary knowledge to choose your next rom like MIUI or CM7 or another samsung Infuse rom or Samsung port to Infuse.

I was a noob a few weeks ago so I will give you some advice:
Read all you can first, then reread stuff all over again. Development Forum is a good place to start.
"Stock" android always has extras - device drivers for a phone, kernel enhancements, etc. If you are looking for a build without AT&T stuff, then there are some i9000 Roms, that can be installed, but you need to install the Captivate kernel. All of these are development builds and have some bugs. They also are for the EU Galaxy, and they have different Samsung software included as well as different menus.
There are guys working on building a plain vanilla 2.1 ROM with the source code, but it will take some time.
This is my second time playing with my phone and i hope this time i didnt brick it. I've just flashing my Xperia X10i from 2.1 eclair to Gingerbread 2.3.3. Flashing it using the Generic 3.xx download from this forum. And im glad i finally done it. Who cares... To the question.
1> What is ROM? Everybody talking about changing Rom, Stock Rom, this Rom, that Rom.. what is the meaning of ROM for android? Flashing Rom and Flashing Firmware is the same thing??
2> What is BASEBAND??
3> What is Generic Number?? Build number?? i've change flash my build number from 2.1.A.435 to 3.0.1.G.0.75 and my baseband version, kernel and Android version change along with it.
HELP ME PLEASE!!

1. A ROM is the firmware, or Operating Sytem, of your phone. It's a package that contains the OS, drivers, programs and other odds and clods that make your phone work!
2. A baseband is a special package (kind of like a ROM) that controls the radios in your phone (cellular radio [phone part], bluetooth, WiFi etc.)
3. A build number is the version of the Operating System you are installing. Every manufacturer uses different naming systems for their builds, but usually the higher the letters/numbers, the newer the build. A new build will often contain a new baseband, and a new kernel. If you're lucky, you can sometimes even get a new OS version (as you did)!
Hope this helps!
pudding no root?
ok guys/girls I have been looking on here for a week and a half now but I flashed pudding and im unlocked as well but no root access obviously something i am not doing right. I thought pudding would give root but maybe not? I also have tried booting in recov. but then I can't find anything in there that says root or whatever.
I have the superuser app. dosent work as well as tita. says not rooted? It also says that a newer version is released and that it was put on my sd card but can't find it?
Any help is welcome or just point me to the right thread.
No dummie responses as they are a waste of your intellectual ability when you could have just used that energy to respond with help.

Wrong place to be posting this... And there already are tons of threads on this...
But all you have to do is re-flash Clockwork Recovery, and install any ROM you'd like... Preferably a tweaked 2.3.3 OTA ROM.

Hi,
I was using SGS I 9000 and with the official 2.3.3 DDJV6 version which is very very slow. After that i have tried so many leaked firmwares but unfortunately none of them works well for me..none of them are stable & bugfree.
Right now i am using DDJV9 with voodoo lagfix. This is also not running effeciently..phone gots very very hot upto 55C.
Kindly help me reviving my sgs experince. Please kindly also share the link also for the same.
Thanks alot in advance.
No roms not even OEM roms are free of bugs mate, try flashing some other custom roms until u find the one that suits ur needs.
I agree none of them is bug free. But Whichever leaked firmware i have used is not not even stable. I just want stable & fast firmware.
People kindly help.

No one will be able to tell you what will run well on your device with your set up. Try roms out till you rind one that works for you. Each device is different and so are the way we use them.

Thanks..
Right now i am little confused. Till now i have only checked the different firmwares not tried any ROM.
Are firmware and ROM are 2 different things or same? Sorry if it is too basic..
Firmware and ROM are sort of intertwined. The firmware mostly relates to the underlying infrastructure that the ROM depends upon. Things like the kernel and radio. The ROM is the actual implementation of the OS. When you flash new firmware, you also get a new ROM along with it.
Some custom ROMs, such as Darky's ROM, are very closely related to the stock ROM, and have mostly performance and cosmetic changes. Other ROMs such as Mintberry MIUI and Onecosmic are quite significantly different from any of the stock ROMs.
They also depend on particular parts of the stock firmware. Onecosmic and MIUI both require gingerbread bootloaders to have been previously installed from a stock firmware package.
If you want my two cents on what to use, I am currently using Onecosmic RC2.11 (waiting for the phone to charge to full, then going to install RC3) and it is excellent. It is based on Ice Cream Sandwich, it runs quickly, and it looks beautiful.
There is a link to the XDA thread here.
Hello xda forum! I am new and totally NOOB! I recently bought a galaxy s i9000 from a little research in the forum I decided that I have to root it because I am already having a lot of problems.. I am having now the original firmware from samsung(updated via kies) and I am in version 2.3.3 (basebend version I9000XXJVO and kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVI-CL210427 [email protected] #2 ...I have no idea what are those things!!! and build number GINGERBREAD.XWJVI) I want to root it on Ice cream sandwich! It look so cool and fast. but I have no idea how and which rom to choose because I saw 3-4 different in the forum.
So...
1. I want to learn how to root and what do I need.
2. I want your opinions on the ics roms (suggest me whats the best)
3. Is everyone have the same problem with the battery!?
4. If I done this and then I want to take the rom out is it possible?
I really thanks you for your time! and sorry if I created a same post..
more info about my phone (found them with a code):

PHONE I9000 XXJVO
CSC I9000 XXJV9
Thanks again for everything!!!
1)To root your Galaxy S you can use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 quick and easy.
2) I personally have not used the ICS roms for SGS but this one seems to be the most stable one around http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398223
3) Battery issues plagued me when I got my SGS as well, I would suggest getting something like Juice Defender off the market it can greatly help out battery life
4) Yes it is possible to go back to stock firmware all you need to do is flash back the stock firmware which you can find through Google.
1)to root my galaxy I used a modded kernel like cf root or semaphore which give you the root permissions and cwm
2)i never tried a ics rom because i'll try one of them when they will become stable, i don't like beta/alpha roms
3)battery isn't very very good...i can arrive till 8 pm normally, but if i start playing, wifi, music...in 4 hours battery is ko
4)yes if you want to take the rom out, you can flash a stock firmware/rom
hope it helps
then tell me how it has gone
thanks guys for your answers..I will think about doing it..and if I have any other question I will ask you...really thanks from your help
