Htc Desire Amoled or SLCD?
what is differt, and what is best?
why they deliver 2 different :s
Samoled is better made by Samsung
Slcd worse made by sharp I think.
Get the samoled as you can buy this part off ebay if you break it.
Sent from my NCC-74656!
S-Amoled is not Amoled and its definitely no better than SLCD. Not even better than LCD. Well... it definitely sucks! Distorted colors and low readability when directly exposed to sunlight. Just my impressions of the Samsung Galaxy S.
Dunno about amoled screens, I've rarely seen one of them, but here is a comparison between the two versions of Desire: http://www.gsmarena.com/amoled_vs_slcd_htc_desire_screens_fight_it_out-news-1932.php
Seems that Amoled beats SLCD at power saving and brightness... I'd wish to check myself anyway.
I got a desire HD which is equipped with a SLCD screen and it's just superb for me!
In the end I'd suggest to get the one who looks better at your eyes.

I too have a Desire HD and I must say I am very happy with the screen quality. I checked out the Galaxy S before buying and the screen definitely produces much deeper blacks but colors seemed off, like there was too much saturation.
Desire HD looks more natural which is how I like it, you should check out both screens and compare.
I've seen many phone screens but so far the sharpest crisper phone screen I've seen is the sidekick lx 09, followed by the iphone 4 and the tmobile G2 and the nexus one. The reason for being that the sidekick has 854 x 480 resolution in a 3.2" screen.
The iphone has a 640 x 960 resolution in a 3.5" screen about the same resolution but the sidekick has more pixels per inches because its a smaller screen than the iphone.
Tmobile G2 and the nexus one with a 480 x 800 resolution are the sharpest screens I've seen after the sidekick lx 09 and iphone 4.
What are the sharpest crisper cellphone screens you've seen so far?

Really? The G2 and Nexus one? Yeesh... First would have to be iphone 4 though the screens too tiny for my taste. From there I'd say the Samsung Focus, then the Dell Venue Pro, from there it's all downhill... I don't think android really shows the beauty of a screen properly or I'd put the Galaxy S line somewhere on there... probably along-side the focus.

Galaxy s phone screens aren't shraper than the G2, they have less pixels per inches, and I don't like the super amoled either. And have you seen the sidekick lx 09? Its belive to be rank as the sharpest screen in the world because is so small and has so many pixels per inches. The screen is ****in gorgeous, iphone 4 is nice too

PPI is no big deal to me especially considering the difference in screen size and the fact that nothing looks sharp on an HTC LCD screen. The lx 09 I guess has a decent screen but for a tiny non-touchscreen screen that doesnt really mean much... iPhone 4 has an awesome display, just too small a phone and too ugly a UI for me...

Super lcd has is the sharpest after retina display on touchscreen phones, the super amoled isn't as sharp as the G2's screen. And to add that the colors on the super amoled look over saturated no natural colors, only thing the super amoled got on the super lcd is the blacks lol the only thing super amoled got better than lcds. I don't understand what yu mean by that htc screens aren't sharp?

The no natural colors argument is an excuse for lack of quality. The vibrancy of AMOLED and SAMOLED looks much more natural than the washed out colors of HTCs LCD screens... If by sharp you mean PPI then I'm sure I could get a phone with a 3 inch screen that owned any of those... However for all visual purposes AMOLED looks best with SAMOLED in a close second (SAMOLED puts a blue hue on white colors that I dislike) then in distant last is LCD screens. I'm watching the same show same episode of smallville on an HD7, a Dell Venue Pro, and a Samsung Focus right now. The Focus and the DVP are right on par with each other, the HD7 is trailing... I mean the Focus has 223 PPI which unless you're holding the phone less than a foot from your face is hardly discernible and the DVP is at 228, again barely discernible. There really isnt much difference between that and the 256 of the g2 and with that you sacrifice screen size and get caught on an LCD screen... no thanks.
I love how this is just a hate thread. I'd prefer to read something other than this hateful garbage. WAHH WAHH HTC PHONZ SUKS KAWS I GOTZ AMOLED. Perhaps the iPhone and G2 ARE sharper quality physically, but the human eye can barely distinguish. My screen looks beautiful whether you agree or not.

I was talking about the super amoled which you agree sucks with white colors, and not only that but it has a greenish tinge on yellows that looks very unatural, I haven't seen an amoled screen, I only seen OLED and SAMOLED, my cousin got the epic and super LCD has way more natural colors, look at the youtube video comparison and you'll see what I'm talking about and remember to YOU it looks better than SLCD not to me, it all depends on what looks better to you I personally don't think colors are washed out like you claim on SLCDs, however I think colors are over saturated on SAMOLED. Thank god htc can't implement SAMOLED displays on htc devices hopefully they'll keep SLCD since samsung is the only one that makes SAMOLED

What phone do you have? And which screen you like better SAMOLED or SLCD?, and listen some might think Samoled has better colors but who cares IMO, and probably yours too, SAMOLED is does not have better colors, we all have different taste and opinions, and SLCD out of all I've seen is the best, its natural in colors, reds doesn't look like. Orange or like they're bleeding and yellows don't look greenish, it is very sharp and has great brightness, if it only had the blacks the SAMOLED has it would be the perfect screen, but still I could give two cents for how black are the blacks.

I agree that it looks pretty nice... I personally prefer AMOLED over the alternatives Super LCD included. SAMOLED is a little out there but I'll take that over devices with the basic LCD screen that most devices are still harboring. I mean all in all it's not a huge difference between most devices but AMOLED and things like that... they just appeal more to me. The colors even though they can be almost cartoony are still visually enthralling. AMOLED is good, Super LCD would take second, from there I'd say amoled, oled, then LCD. Pixel density is hardly visible to the naked eye so as long as it's not just terrible it's all about the type of screen... this is all just my opinion though.

Agreed, I think my distaste for the washed out colors is because a heavy portion of Windows Phone 7 is black and blacks are not too good on LCD screens as you mentioned earlier.
I like Super Amoled actually, nevertheless, I will wait for WP 7 phones from Nokia.
They will throw the Clear Black Displays in them, I reckon. And the clear black displays were proven to be the best in a GSM Arena review.
BTW, I don't like Nokia, but I always go for the best.

Hi,
I am looking for a replacement phone for my Galaxy S and I am doubting whether to buy the SGS II or the HTC Sensation, the most important thing is the screen!
And since the SGS had an aweful Pentile Matrix Layout RGBG, I would never buy another phone with a PM layout.
So straight to the point does the htc sensation have a Pentile Matrix layout?
Thanks in advance
Screen is an LCD and therefore has a RGB stripe subpixel layout. Pentile is used for oled screen technology.

Then, what is that?
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4165/the-motorola-atrix-4g-preview/4
Wow, I wonder why they did that, I'm not buying the blue phosphor stuff as how many lcd screens have you seen noticeably affected by this. Is this the only pentile lcd screen?
I wouldnt have thought that the Sensation would use pentile as none of the new HTC models with S-LCD screens have pentile as far as I'm aware.
I don't think this one is pentile matrix, but I don't have anything solid to back that up.
The SGSII is definitely not pentile matrix.
The screen on the sensation is super LCD qhd I'm pretty sure the super amoled plus screen on the sg2 is pentile matrix
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
The SGS II doesn't have a pentile matrix that's for sure, since the plus in super amoled plus, stands for the extra subpixel (compared to Super Amoled)
Now I was wondering whether the HTC Sensation has a pentile matrix because the Atrix 4G has a pentile matrix aswell and that's qHD too!

qHD is only a spec of resolution, not of screen type. qHD is one quarter of full HD resolution:
1920/2= 960
1080/2= 540
The qHD notation could be use on amoled, samoled, lcd, slcd or any type of screen, as long as it is 960 x 540 resolution.

Has nothing to do with the blue. The white pixel lends brightness. I'm sure its cheaper for them and easier to make. Ideally it should increase battery life.

I see others have corrected you, but since your post my in reply to mine I felt irked enough to reply anyways. The SGSII screen is definitely NOT pentile. Samsung made a big deal about that at the launch, and its been widely publicised since. Using Google occasionally, before posting, is a great way to avoid espousing fictions publicly.

Erm, there is no suchh thing as a white pixel. Red Green and Blue combine to make white light. The anandtech article explains it well.
I do acknowledge that the blue may shut down quicker, but no other LCD uses this, so i dont believe its the reason Motorola used pentile matrix. Possibly too reduce the cost of creating a screen with high resolution by reduction the number of sub pixels to cram in. (or wichever lcd manufacturer moto uses)
Anyone know the answer to the OP?
As with many other people I'm torn between the SGS2 and the HTC Sensation... For me this could be the deciding factor.

I believe the Atrix uses a RGBW PenTile arrangement - you can see it in the Anandtech cloe-up.
The sgs2 is NOT a pentile matrix.
Repetition of what others have said but,
GSII has no pentile matrix, the PLUS in super AMOLED Plus stands for 50% increase i sub pixels SO when you look at the screen, it'll appear in it's FULL resolution! No pixelating due to pentile.
Link will tell you what you need to know.

THANK YOU! That description is accurate without the implied hyperbole of making it higher res and stuff. Sorry, I just hate the propaganda spewed by all companies and think that its hyperbole has no place here. Saying it makes it look higher res than it is is wrong, while your statement of "it'll appear in it's FULL resolution! No pixelating due to pentile." is perfectly accurate.

Best kind of sites, the ones that will speak the impartial truth.
And yeah, the Sensation is the one I'll get. The camera is better on the Samsung but the higher res screen is a godsend for me (the resolution closes in on that of the original Galaxy Tab, HTC Flyer, and BB Playbook). Plus, I am upgrading from a Touch Pro 2, I really don't think any dual-core phone will disappoint me (except maybe for a Tegra2 one because I want High Profile H.264 decoding). I don't like the ergonomics of the SII or their UI (though their browser is buttery smooth). The new zoom method on the SII seems interesting but also seems to lack the precision needed to really make it useful (it'll most likely improve with time). Also, HTC in general is great with updates (I'm not saying anything bad about Samsung), they had 5 different ROMs for my TP2 and the latest update was released February of this year.
In summary these are my reasons for choosing the Sensation:
Higher resolution screen: great for reading web pages, novels, comics and I assuming it'll be great for document editing/formatting/creation. The colours on SAMOLED+ might be prettier but not as functional for me.
Camera, I need the cameras in general for spontaneous moments and for reference. To show what I was talking about or documentation moments, things, etc. (or even just avoiding the wasted paper of photocopies). I do wish it had more detail but it's enough for what I need (though what DOES bug me about it is that from some shots/videos you can see that it IS capable of capturing finer detail which makes me think the blurry/pastel-y parts are due to compression or noise reduction algorithms that are just too aggressive).
UI and HTC familiarity and product support (I honestly get the impression that Google's decision to ask companies to support devices for 18 months is going to affect HTC's practices and I mean that in a good way).
The processor might not be as good (MIGHT as it is still an ongoing debate and don't want people to jump down my throat) but it is better tenfold than the one I have at the moment.
And hey, I figure the "buttery smoothness" of the SII should be coming to all halfway decent phones, including the Sensation, when Ice Cream Sandwich comes out as Honeycomb supposedly supports GPU acceleration and so the Sandwich should too.
I am an informed shopper. I make sure I am aware of not only the advantages, but also the deficiencies, of what I buy but make the choice based on what's best for ME based on my likes/wants and NEEDS at the moment and near future.
Now I just have to do two things:
1) wait for reviews if they don't take too long to see if there's anything seriously wrong with the Sensation or something else that could change my decision (I doubt it).
2) Choose whether to buy an imported sim-unlocked version or import one from T-Mobile (This decision might be heavily influenced by the release date of unlocked versions and the programs pre-installed on the T-Mob version.
How about you Daivik? Make your choice? And don't worry, whatever it is I won't try to dissuade you
p.s. I read the Sensation manual and like that it has bilingual support for the keyboard/text prediction.. Something which is very useful for me (though for all I know the SII could have it).

Now that is a good reasoning!! Personally I think I'm swaying to the GSII.
1) I'm on T-mobile UK, who get all their phones late! :/ SO I don't think I could wait for the sensation (as it is the GSII is coming in in June...or later)
2) I prefer the sense look and feel, but I'm coming up from a Desire, so I feel as if I'm just buying a "Desire-pro"/"Desire-EPIC-HD" etc (you get the point?) and I'm the sort of person that likes change!
I also ended up just using launcherPro over sense on my desire also.
3) Watch is a big feature on HTC...but I have A RUBBISH 2mb internet speed, on a good day, so downloading movies is something that I haven't been able to do (without leaving my pc on over night!)
4)Being honest, I'm not totally happy about the TouchWiz messaging of contacts (it looks very "blocky/rectangular", but that's something I'll change/get over.)
5) the RAM, even though it is more that enough, it's just the sort of thing that will bug me, knowing that the GSII has 1GB. And internal memory, again even though 1GB is enough, I just fear running out, like on my desire.
And the GSII, should be coming on T-Mobile earlier than the Sensation, so it's the one i'll go for - But still will feel gutted that I won't be seeing qHD.
there's always next year...when hopefully, we'll be seeing 300+ PPI Super AMOLED plus panels!

I got these in stock today and after playing around with it I was impressed by the sharpness of the screen - when you zoom into the text it is very similar to the iPhone 4. The SLCD is definitely better than a traditional LCD screen.
I still prefer the bigger screen on the Galaxy S II and the screen just looks so much nicer. The Super Amoled Plus technology is far superior to the SLCD in my opinion.

Doesnt the sensation have the bigger screen?
I think SLCD is better because it can work well at night

How is the screen bigger there both 4.3 inch you mean in vertically right cause the sensation is 16:9 ratio gives a wider landscape experience.

So he have a GSII and a Sensation to compare and just because he prefer the Suped amoled Plus screen on the GSII he's a fanboy ? Does he really have to love a screen that he find weaker to not being considered as a fanboy ? I mean seriously just think a few more seconds before flamming anyone without any valable reason

I think it wasn't about him preferring a screen over the other but about calling it BIGGER when they are both 4.3"
Yes, they have a different area due to aspect ratios but lets face it, the difference is almost negligible and many people don't even understand the difference, they just understand 4.3

The fact is that though the sensation should have a larger display due to 16:9 ratio. Vertically and landscape.

Yes and no. Larger area=definitely
Wider=yes
Longer=no
Remember, the more square a quadrilateral the greater the area for the same diagonal. But some people don't see that.
And as I said, some people don't look past the 4.3" or only focus on one of the dimensions. I didn't say he was right in his comment, just that I didn't think he was bashing on Stesa for liking the Samsung screen more, but rather because his statement of a larger screen APPEARS to be frivolous if you only consider the 4.3 (though Stesa is perfectly correct in saying it is bigger).
Its a personal preference, I have Nexus One and love the Amoled Screen, I have seen SAMOLED and SAMOLED + u wont see a lot of difference except brightness when going from Nexus One. Also OLED isnt really a mature tech yet, It needs a lot of generations to reach a perfectly good place. Has many issues right now though it looks beautiful

is that not where it is now-ish?
OLD -> AMOLED -> Super AMOLED -> Super AMOLED Plus???
Currently have a g2x but thinking about getting the sensation. Which has the better screen?
Imo the g2x has a better screen
I like the Sensations display a lot better for the fallowing reasons:
1.Direct sunlight performance is much much better that the G2X. Probably the best I've ever seen.
2. It's bigger and can fit more on the screen along with making it easier to type.
3. The RESOLUTION. Text is so much more clear and crisp that when I go back to my G2X after using my Sensation, everything looks fuzzy on the G2X. Also the higher resolution puts more on the display.
4. Colors are brighter and more vibrant. Not as vibrant as a super AMOLED but pretty dank close.
The only categorie the G2X wins is viewing from a angle. The Sensation washes out pretty quick on angle viewing but straight on, its nice
My advice to you would be to take your G2X to the store and hold it next to the Sensation. Make sure both displays are cranked up to full brightness.

Obviously its just personal preference as that's a very subjective question.
That said....the screen on the Sensation in the MAIN reason I switched from my G2x to this.
4.3" SLCD with qHD res and an awesome 16:9 aspect ratio.
As far as REALISTIC viewing angles....this is perfect. Im not often laying flat on the floor with my phone 5 feet away trying to use it....
After owning both phones, I knew I wanted to look at this screen everyday for the next 2 years....
I'm blown away by this display....gorgeous.

Especially agree with this.
I really liked the G2X screen, but the advantages of having the higher resolution are the main reasons I prefer the Sensation.
I went with the Sensation although G2X might have a better camera. The reason I got the Sensation over G2X was the screen.

Off topic for sec... The still cam quality is debatable.
Do keep in mind one very important fact.
The Sensation does 1080p @ 30fps in STEREO.
The G2x does 1080p @ 24fps in MONO.
HUGE difference in quality for people who use the camcorder a lot....as do I.
Now back to the topic at hand....
Add LCD density for higher res look

you beat me to it.
THIS. also had to do with my switch. Sensation performs much better than g2x in terms of graphics quality. just too much damn bloatware
I have to agree with the consensus. Qhd really makes quite a big difference. Now if you asked which screen do I like better, SGS2 versus Sensation I would say I don't know.

Wifey has the Vibrant
which I imagine is comparable to the GS2 in quality.
No question, I've been spoiled by the Sensation's qHD. I'm an avid book reader on my smartphones, and the extra pixels seem to make a big difference, not to mention real estate on web pages.
The blacks on wife's phone does seem to still be blacker, but I'd rather have the extra pixels.

You talk about quality, but the microphone on the Sensation is almost unbearable! Where's the quality in that? Who gives a **** if it's stereo vs. mono if it's unpleasant to listen to in the first place?

A problem with every htc phone I've had. Galaxy s and iPhone has the best sound recording.
The issue is, if I recall correctly, that HTC uses a low quality audio codec to record with. Called amr or something like that

Define "better".
I agree with previous posters about the qHD screen. However the G2x's super amoled screen is brighter and has more contrast which makes it better for games and anything with a simple color scheme. But you can't beat the Sensation's screen for movies and TV - the 16:9 aspect ratio and more natural color rendition are an unbeatable combination.

UPDATE: The G2X screen is LCD IPS, not Super AMOLED. (Thanks, jlevy73 and greengoldmello!)

The Mic is fine?
Sounds great on my 7.1 surround HTPC.
The G2x records in mono and it was obvious.
It's plenty good enough quality. Something must wrong with your Mic.
People have commented that it sounds like I'm on a landline when on a call.
Great quality.
Maybe your Mic holes are covered by a case? I don't doubt its crappy on your device....not mine though. Think of it this way ...better to have stereo craps, than mono crap.

G2x uses LCD. The Nexus S and original SGS use super amoled. The SGS2 uses super amoled plus.

The g2x does not have a super amoled screen...no phone out Samsung does. It has an ips LCD, which is a better tech than slcd in my opinion. If the g2x has the same resolution and screen size then it wouldn't even be a competition.
