Well I dont want to sound mean but, didnt they promise Optimus 2x gingerbread for a year now? So I will believe them when I see it done! Other than that Great news to look foreword to.
BTW, CM will have it out for us before LG will!

Probably with less problems, too.

Remember Gingerbread when it was released... the Dev Community had it released on all phones before any phone manufacture did.
You forget to think that ICS will go through a few revisions before reaching a stable version that will be ported to other phones.
BTW... link?

probably the end of November 2012...lol :-(

straight from their fb page! So the p999 will definitely be getting this update, which who knows maybe it will be a better experience than 2.3.3

Honestly, if LG reads this thread they'll think we don't even care if they release it or not. Come on guys, I for one love the fact that LG is stepping up to the plate to update the phone for us.
Whether it was due to our complaining, the hate posts on their FB page, our forum, Google pressure, or just the social responsibility of LG, it's acceptable by me.
I'm grateful for it and enthused by it. Anyways, back to the fact, it'll probably take them a while to release it, probably by like next April, but it's still an update.
I take back my post on their facebook page now. They seem like they care after all, even if they are slow, it's not like they've been huge players in the mobile industry as far as I know. So let them gain some momentum here.

Don't worry. LG is not reading this.

who cares?
- If LG does eventually put out an upgrade... it wont be untill Summer if that soon
- It will most likely suck like their GB update did.. ( froyo kernal? cmon )
- Before an official release... you STILL wont have drivers to make the phone function correctly because of NVIDIA
this is why i switched to a SGS2 hercules ....im done with LG and NVIDIA ... G2x had great potential... but i am done and will no longer buy from either company when it comes to phones

It's too bad ATi never made a phone and never will, I would have bought one if they did. Unfortunate thing now is that AMD killed ATi, otherwise it probably could have made a phone that would crush the Tegra 2, just like they do with desktop/laptop GPUs. Anyways, I knew this would happen, apparently I was one of the only people that could spot that the other facebook response from "LG" was a fake :/

You obviously never owned a SGS Vibrant.... still running Froyo 2.2 forevermore. Every company does the "shove it out the door and fuggedaboudit shuffle"...

If it used ATI drivers you'd be better off with NV and froyo kernel.

Why stay Here
I don't understand the people who post they are finished with LG and/or the G2x and has had enough. Trade it in for another phone that they say they are happier with, works better than and all that but stay here in the G2x forum to complain. If their new phones are all that much better why aren't they in their NEW forum helping others and such.

I appreciate that people are anxious for an official Gingerbread release but online petitions wont speed this up. There has been a delay for a reason, What this reason is only LG know. I would much prefer a stable Gingerbread release than a not so stable release just to appease punters. If you really want Gingerbread so bad flash CM7.
This will not just make them release it earlire, but it will inform LG that consumers are not satisfied with these delays, so, they will work hard to update their's devices ASAP to satisfy us if they want to succeed.

I am sure that LG are fully aware that there is growing discontent within the Optimus 3D community at the delays in releasing Gingerbread, You would have to be completely naive to think otherwise.
I'm not signing it. This is 3D, its totally new, even the devs are struggling to change stuff. They will release it when its ready. I don't want a dodgy upgrade. I want one that works well first time, not a flakey one thats released cos' people are impatient. It won't look any different, apps won't look any different so just chill.
Anyway, as soon as 2.4 arrives 2.3 will be old hat and you'll need another petition ;-)
Pete
Agree that this is a useless petition.
A better petition would be is to tell LG to skip upgrades on Gingerbread and just focus on Ice Cream Sandwich when that is released.
Basically, continue with making a stable gingerbread release and release it out, then instead of spending months working on upgrades for that, start working on Ice Cream Sandwich instead. At least we'll catch up to other manufacturers in terms of Ice Cream Sandwich releases this way.
I don't understand what the benefits are of having Gingerbread. I am really loving this phone as it is.

Better power management, (better) dual core/dual channel support, better memory manager. So the O3D should be a lot faster en last a lot longer on a battery charge with GB.

Yes, they are. But, If more queries come to them from consumers, then that would make them speedup the proces. These delayes are unaccepted. Ok, I agree that they have to take time since they are using a new technology and a new processor, but, can you tell me how much days since they released the Optimus 2X? It's processor not new, it is regular phone, and it was released before the Optimus 3D for a while, and until now they didn't release the update!!!!
This tells you something, the thing that there is something wrong in the policy of the company, with these petitions, e-mail, and calls to them, they would feel more that there is something wrong.
I can give you an example, take SonyEricsson. Their first device was Xperia X10, it stayed a long period in 1.6, then they updated it to 2.1, but they learned the lesson well, you can take a lot at their new Xperia devices for 2011. They always get updates, and not just updates, but including new features also like USB OTG. They are now receiving 2.3.5. So, they discovered their mistakes, and now they are telling that their support for their devices is strong before they release their top devices, so that its sales became on the top, because nowadays even if the hardware is powerful but the support is required, and I can prove that by seeing much people saying that they will not take anymore devices from LG, for the bad support, compared to the competitions.
I agree that they should skip GB and work on ICS, but they have first to change their policy before or correct the mistakes that leads to this situatin.
I have signed the petition.
Promise is a promise. The only reason GB is late is because LG is diverting resources to other projects. Shame on you LG. I will never ever buy any of your products if you don't deliver as promised, only then you will restore our trust in your products.

i think (and these are my thoughts only) is this: the gb upgrade costs lg a pretty penny. the older the version becomes the cheaper it is in the end for them. when ice cream sandwich gets released gb will be cheaper to license.

Is 3D Optimus able to update to Ice Cream Sandwich in future?

P990 even cannot , message from LG-
Dear , We will not be introducing Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich updates on LG Optimus 2X P990. Keep watching this space for further updates.

What a shiiit job for even a dual-core phones they did, LC, damn you!
I Wish you will be kicked away from the phone market.
Seeing how slow is going the GB update, I don't even think about ISC...
First at all we have to find answers for this question:Is 3D Optimus able to update to Gingerbread in future?
Knowing LG I bet they're wasting their time THINKING about if they want to work on a gingerbread OR ICS release. In fact... they're probably not even thinking about their 3D phone in the first place.

I swear I read a while back that we could not get Ice Cream on our phones, that they weren't capable.
Regardless, I really doubt we're getting it. IMO, both TMO and LG have washed their hands of this device.
Too bad, 'cause it's an awesome phone. May take a few tries to get a good one LOL, but when you do, not much out there can beat it.
But if you don't expect any support, you won't be disappointed
Weren't capable? Huh? So the nexus S is going to run a stripped down version of 4.0? I think not ...our phones should be plenty capable and be faster on 4.0 than 2.3 yes? Since there's support for dual core

LG in general. and todays post says nothing confirming an update it says the no was not true it says they are planning ics and will let us know.
the previous post was in regards to past phones where they promised gingerbread updates and they never came.
it took 9 months to put gb out for some of the o2x's and thats an OS that was released before the phone.
its possible lg has figured out they could turn around their rep(due to short memories) around if they release ics by december for these 2 phones.
i havent seen anything from lg that shows they have or care.
so ill believe it when i see it.
if you want to make generalizations about the g2x than if the ics update is comparable to the gb we wont see most of the new optimization's since they are in the kernel and they seem to like the froyo kernel too much.
we can hope they learned something from 6 quaters of loss with each quarter increasing that loss. only time will tell.

I agree about the kernel. It sure would be nice for nvidia and LG to get together and release the code and drivers so the devs can do their thing. I have not relied on a stock rom in years for any of my phones. The magical devs here at xda do a far better job than any of the manufacturers or cell companies. I'm not real big into lobbying companies to do things, but if they don't release ICS for us, I would hope at the least we could get the drivers.

So does Qualcomm typically release source for their drivers? I would think it's all IP that all these companies would want to protect, but I always only see this complaint about NVIDIA.

I dunno, it's mighty conspicuous they did not say G2X....
Specifically, on Facebook it says:
"We are initially announcing LG Optimus smartphones that will have Ice Cream Sandwich OS upgrade!"
Then on the actual article it says:
"Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE."
That CLEARLY leaves out the G2X.
They are only focusing on the O2x because they originally said it wasn't getting ICS because it was out "before" the Google Update Contract. It was all over the web and now LG publically announced it was a rumor and said they are working on it.
We'll get it eventually. The G2x isn't that old yet. It technically should have been launched with GB. The GB update was promised Day 1 as "GB isn't finished yet, so we'll just launch it with Froyo to make everyone happy". GB update = doesn't count.
So there is no reason why 6 month old phone won't get updated. Probably won't be speedy though.
@above: Optimus 2x = G2x
Same line of hardware. Tmobile has to officially release the update for us... so it won't be announced via LG.

Had the same theory with the Samsung Vibrant. Galaxy S phone, right? So when Galaxy S phones worldwide got Gingerbread, the Vibrant should, too, right? Nope, it was different due to T-Mobile radio and T-Mobile didn't care to push an update. So every Vibrant user is still rocking Froyo while the rest of the Galaxy S world is running official Gingerbread. And don't say Cyanogenmod - support was so bad thanks to lack of closed driver support that CM9 is dropping support for the Vibrant completely, and CM7 never ran right on it.

That's not completely clear. As I recall, the Gingerbread update was originally directly from LG via their updater, and the OTA from T-Mobile followed that.
I am so tired of saying this, but here I go again. The G2X is an Optimus 2X device. To LG it is a 2X. The Optimus 2X line includes the P990, SU660 and the P999. The G2X badging was only for T-Mobile to continue their line of "G" high-end Android devices (i.e., G1, G2, G2X). It was easy for them and LG to just add a "G" to the front of the 2X name. That is why the P999 in Canada is a 2X. Only T-Mobile is allowed to use the G2X name. It is a proprietary name for T-Mobile only. It will get ICS so stop fretting about it already.

I guess I just get so nervous because I had the same story with the Vibrant... I hope you're right.
Anyway, I did get a response on LG's facebook that I made a few days ago. Not much info there.

Hey LG, since the P990 gingerbread update included the proper LG Camera, is there any way maybe just maybe you guys could push out a fixed LG Camera (NOT AOSP) for the P999 G2X? Many of us bought the phone for the great camera software which you took away with the Gingerbread update!

LG USA Mobile: Hey Alvin, we hear you. Unfortunately we don't have any information on the G2X updates. When we do though, we will be sure to share it with you. Thanks for your patience.

CM7 ran smooth as hell on my vibrant. Still is now and my son is using it.
O2X=G2X
If o2x gets official ics I'm 100% sure g2x will have a fully optimized ics rom.

It ran smooth, but GPS was flaky (you couldn't turn it off, or it wouldn't turn back on until you rebooted) and the battery life was pathetic compared to stock.

Agreed but this obviously isn't Samsung. We've already had an update and have NO reason to suggest we won't be getting more updates.
NVidia and LG have closed drivers but that doesn't stop development. Everyone labels LG as being a bad manufacture based on bad experiences with Samsung.
While I would like more "openness" around the device as a whole, I do ultimately blame NVidia. Even on Desktop Linux boxes, NVidia is hush hush.
IMO, looking at LG or any other manufacture, it doesn't really pay-off to release source code within the first year. You have to think that manufactures have to warranty the devices for a year and people boinking their hardware over some poorly self-compiled driver only costs them money.
I predict we'll get an official ICS upgrade and be shut down. The question is if we'll get a new kernel or if they still pimp that Froyo version!

ICS cannot run on the old kernel. It will have to be a new kernel, and more than likely, a new baseband also (as Qualcomm is continually updating the baseband code to finetune it, so there is no reason for LG not to improve the device with a baseband update also).
I've long figured that while there was a small chance LG wouldn't release ICS for the G2x there was a much bigger chance they would.
Here's my logic: The launch of the phone was a disaster from a PR perspective and left a lot of people considering other manufacturers for their next phone. As a result LG has a lot of ground to make up in terms of consumer trust. In terms of repairing their reputation releasing ICS for the G2x would go a long way to rebuilding the trust they lost. As long as LG's beancounters determine that the money put into developing ICS for the G2x is worth it LG will do it.
Lets just hope its not a half ass build like the gingerbread build was...

Why do people on this board whine about this phone so much? There was nothing wrong with the Gingerbread build. It is a very stable and fast stock Android build. If you don't like it install one of the custom roms based on it or CM7.

1. There is a difference between whining and making a statement
2. Check the sig. 2 steps ahead of you

Can the similarities with Google Nexus benefit the development community?

As I heard the Galaxy S benefited a lot from the Nexus S community. Why can't we?

we probably can as well. if you dont want a 3d phone that is... you still need real3d framework to get functional 3d.

Let me tell you why, not only do other companies have support from the actual companies eg sony, htc, samsung etc they get dev support from xda and other places.. Where as other companies relase source codes and stuff to help devs along to get things done..
LG well its a ****ing joke of a company, i keep this phone now to f about with it i have a galaxy nexus s now and am really happy. LG is depressing they boast that they have the worlds first 3D phone yet release it with outdated software. And when they finally do release gingerbread. It's fricking broken in many area's and they are not even attempting to fix it at all. Instead they decided to go ahed and release some more ****ty phones and then hyping it so they can sell it to customers and then not support their phones ...
As for source code for the Optimus 3D they cannot release it due to the copy right reasons if they release it then other companies will know what they used etc blah blah blah... BOO LG worst phone ever owned and worst choice ever made by dumb old me..
It's shyt thats the end of it and we will never see release and dev's in this community are stingy they have operating systems like ice cream sandwich and won't release it and try fix it like they do in the old desire forum. In the desire forum if someone has a leaked copy of an operating system they will relase it to the public then all devs come together and slowly but surely one by one they fix diffrent departments and end up with one brilliant working rom.. where as here oh i will show you a video with lg optimus 3d running ice cream sandwich on it and pics but won't release it cuz i am a fag... thats me done venting enjoy...
