solved (Q) Transformer stuck at password screen. - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My transformer is unrooted (doing an rma). I tried to boot into apx mode. Nothing came up on my pc screen was just blank on the TF. Rebooted it and now I am stuck at a password screen which I never set. I have an rma and was getting this thing ready to send out.
I have no idea why its doing this. When I boot with vol - it just goes to the little android guy with an "!"
???

**Ok so I solved it, you need to do the vol- power thing. But I always kept pushing vol + right away when the white letters came up. I didn't do that this time and the wipe option came up!

when you go into apx mode, it's normal for the screen to stay black. until you execute the nvflash command...in which case (iirc) the screen should display something.
make sure you're following the instructions to the letter.

Sorry my usb port is broken. I was just testing if anything would happen in APX. When it came out it had an option to wipe or something about linux. I had never seen that so I held down the power. I need to get back to that screen to do the wipe but I can't.

Nobody knows what the password is? Or what to do?

Edited OP.

Still can't get it back
Hi,
It seems to be the only thread about this matter here. I'm new here, but I swear I tried to find any other problem like mine.
I also looked it up on other websites and blogs. I even tried to unbrick my Transformer, even though I'd done nothing that could brick it.
The thing is: I got that same screen asking me for a password that I have never set up. I tried the "vol- power" thing to wipe the data and nothing changed. My attempt to unbrick the tablet was also pointless.
I am kind of desperate right now. My Transformer was bought by some relative in the US last year - meaning I have no way to complain about it on the store. And I have never done anything that was not official in it. Someday, somehow it simply stopped working. At first was that black screen, but a ~7 seconds power button did the job.
Now I've got this really annoying password asking. It's giving me nightmares.
Please help. Please.
Thank you.

password screen
i am also stuck at this password screen when i didnt not set any password for my transformer. i had started it up in the am no problem and then it froze around noon and then when i rebooted it, it came to this password screen, and nothing works, I have talked to the guys over at transformer forums and they said that i should try to go in it through my computer but my computer doesnt seem to recognize it either. I dont know what to do and i feel like i have a 500 dollar paper weight...can anyone help? its a tf101 32 g asus transformer

[Q] Transformer not powering on?

Hey, I got my transformer yesterday, and for some reason this is the 2nd time this has happened, fully charged battery, but the device won't power on. Attempted to plug into power but no dice. Held the power button for 30 seconds, nothing, held the power and volume up and nothing. Yesterday when this happened I plugged it into my computer (Windows) and held the power and up buttons and it turned on though it could have been windows detecting the drivers. Anyone else having this? Any suggestions? I haven't had a chance to test again and see if I can bring it back through that trick yet, but I will. Then I'll try a factory reset and see if it resolves the issue. I would hate it if this is a defective unit, that's for sure esp since they are so backordered. Outside of that I love the device.

when your device isnt coming on, does your computer give you a usb notification? You could be putting it in apx mode on accident.

I will find out in a few. The thing is this has happened when I left the device unplugged and in sleep when driving to/from work. Yesterday plugging it back into the computer brought it to life. Nothing else did. Not sure what apx mode is even.

EDIT: Ok, turns out it get stuck in some weird power mode. I plugged it into the computer with no resolution, when I held the power button for 10 seconds, then waited 5 and pressed it again, the device powered on. I suspect it might be an issue involving detecting WiFi access points when driving or something else. I'll Factory Restore and see what happens.
try turning off screen lock.

I had that sometimes in the first day I had it, after that it hasn't happened. No factory reset, just make sure to do a hard shutdown (powerbutton 10 sec~) while it's booted and it should fix the issue.

Yea, it had happened once already, and again. I'll be testing today when I leave work, factory reset and see what happens. Should it continue, I'll go to the next step. I'm just not sure what it is. Interesting bug to say the least.

I still don't really know what APX mode is, from the limited things I have seen about it, in order to get into such, the device has to be powered off first. As far as I can tell, my device isn't randomly powering itself off and automatically going into APX mode. This happens without me touching the device. When I did the power off and on today, it wasn't plugged into the computer at all. There was no recognition from the computer that the device was plugged in.
Well as of today, my EEE Transformer is dead. Will not power on the screen, Asus offers a repair of 14 business days, unacceptable.
Powering on issue
Woah...I was scared to death when mine didn't turn on the next morning that I got the device. Charged it for an hour and try to turn on again, nothing.
Holding the buttons several different ways that I know how to reset it didn't work. Finally I held the button down for more than 10 seconds. Wait a few seconds, then it powered on. Why didn't they make a hard reset since you can't remove battery!??? Hope this is just some fluke and could be updated with firmware.

Alas, mine didn't get resolved with that, computer detects it now, but no screen response. Asus tells me 14 business days to fix then says try to restore it with the Kernel Source Code. Unfortunately I can't see a way to do such from the folder and they decided to disconnect me.
There is a bug with the default lock screen that makes it so the screen doesnt power on occasionally. In order to work around this you need to disable the lock screen in the settings, or change it from the default one.
Obviously in order to do this initially it needs to be powered on and so you can see it. Therein lies your problem of course. To get around this, charge up your device so you know it has power, use the force power off method (10-12 second press of the power button), wait a few seconds (30+), then power on the device normally (5-6 second press of the power button).
If your screen doesnt come on after that, try a couple more times. It really is an RMA job if it continues to fail. If it does come on, let it boot up to the lock screen, and dont let the screen go off, keep it 'alive', unlock the device and change the lock screen in the options, to either be switched off, or to anything other than default.
This wont work for everyone, as obviously a few may actually have duff screens, but for some of you, it may just be the lock screen bug you are getting unlucky with.
Yea, I seem to have not only the lock screen bug but a defective screen. Unacceptable to me, but hey, what can I do? I've been disconnected 5 times so far, waiting on a manager and will be requesting a faster resolution than what they are offering me. (10-14 Business days is unacceptable)

i am in the same boat as you, luckly i picked up the acer for the weekend because i didnt think i was going to get the asus. glad i did
I'm waiting on hold with Asus to see if they will do an Advance Repair, basically I get put on the line for the full price of the device until they declare mine broken since the return period on the Acer is 14 days at best buy. Quite outside of the repair period.

[Q] My Asus transformer stuck at "Eee pad" screen after turning on :(

After I had to fully turning off my eee pad (by holding power key 10 sec) before the airplane taking off, now I when I turn to turn on pad, it only goes to the blank screen showing "Eee pad" and now moving forward to lock screen. I have tried to turn it on and off more numerous time, same still.
Anyone has any idea why?
Can you get into bootloader? Put the update one the storage card and try reflashing. I believe it is the "down volume" and "power".
Yes, I could get into bootloader by pressing down volumn + power, but neither recovery mode nor wipe data mode works, the screen will just sit there for a long time.
Do you know how to use adb? Can you get an "adb logcat"? Depending on the Asus logo shown, the kernel might already be up

It sounds like the same issue a few us with bricked devices had 3-4 weeks ago. Our only solution after personally talking to a tier 3 Asus technician was to RMA. Ours became bricked after running Asus' Firmware update though so it's strange that yours is stuck out of the box.
same thing happened to me today. I was able to wipe data and get it to boot. I'm downloading the new firmware. Hope that will help. I'd been getting 2-3 SOD every day on this one.
Update failed and it won't recognize a manual search ofr update. Any suggestions?

Mine was working fine for 3 weeks and I was happy, I was even able to update the firmware (through microSD card). I think it went dead on me when I had to completely power off without turning off the music player (at least that's what I thought) before the airplane took off. If that's true, this will be such a mess up.
Now after numerous fail attempts to get it to wipe data or recover and boot (nothing happened and screen is still stuck at boot), I gave up. I think I have to RMA to get it to repair it.

Transformer won't boot, get a blue screen (of death?)

OK, so I haven't used my TF for a couple of weeks...it was in a sleeve and I assume the battery died. I went to boot it tonight, and it wouldn't (no real surprise)...so I plugged it in and let it charge for some time...still, nothing.
The screen does turn on, but it remains black - but you can tell the screen still works. Occasionally, when I hold the power button it the whole screen flashes blue and it quickly displays a bit of the Android Alien...never, ever, seen a blue screen with the Android logo on the tablet.
Anyway, I can't get it to boot. I've tried holding the power button, tried booting while holding the Vol+ and Vol- button...still, nothing.
Any ideas? Searching yields nothing like this...it's similar to the deep sleep, but clearly the screen still wakes (but remains black), and then I get a little flash of blue, too.
Thanks fellas.

I've Googled again and again...nothing...all it does when I try and boot is flash to an old school Windows style blue screen...It flickers so I can't make out what it all says, it's doing some kind of memory check (?)...and something else, I think...but that's it. I tried this too: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-unbrick-asus-eee-pad-transformer-honeycomb-tablet/
Is this thing FUBAR???
Nobody has any clues about what to do hear? Seriously?
I can't even get it to boot...the screen turns on, but remains black, unless it flashes that blue screen...what do?
nvflash a flashable rom...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123429
"bricked" is such an overused phrase on xda.
EDIT: sorry, didn't click the link on the second post
what does 'it doesn't work' mean in the context of nvflash? does it refuse to connect? does it successfully flash it but not start? more info would be appreciated
Yea, it connects. My computer recognizes it, I can get in ADX (?) mode, it flashes. From my computer side of things it works, but the entire time the NVFlash process is going I don't see anything on my screen. So it appears to work on the computer side of things, but not on the tablet side. I still have the booting problems and the blue screen.
Thanks so much

Probably something hardware on the inside then.
^Agree with the above post
although while you are flashing something, you aren't supposed to have screen activity on it. I hope you didn't pull the plug because of that.
I hope that you can find a solution to your problem, but it might actually be a ram problem or something
Damn...I was afraid it would be hardware related. So, I was (am?) rooted and was running a custom ROM...can I still send this to Asus? Will they replace it, or am I just effed? Thanks guys, I appreciate the insights.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
They will replace it, but they might charge you for it. Most of the time you can get away with "custom rom? what does that mean? I just used the installer thingy with the cord in the computer and tablet" Just ask them for an RMA #, they're pretty good at that kind of stuff.
Unless, of course, you overclocked it to something insane and fried the circut board, you should be good to go.

mine boot but after 2 sec the screen goes black. even when i press the power button it only turns on for 2 sec. good thing i went back to stock before all that madness went down
kinda sucks i wanted to try all the new roms now i gotta wait at least a week still the RMA send it back
same problem black screen flashes blue
same problem as polkadots
screen lights up (i.e. not backlight problem) stay lit and then flashes blue. You have to press power to shut off the black screen (i.e. not backlight problem). I have not tried to do any roms it was a refurbished product that worked fine for a month and then had this problem. have tried hard and soft resets and the black screen comes on and acts like it is working. then it flashes blue upon the touch and goes back to black screen. any ideas? anyone with same problem? do i have to send back to Asus?

[Q] AT&T HTC ONE X Stuck in Boot Loop and showing

Hi Developers
I am new to this forum. I have tried to Update my Phone using team won recovery. After installing the Rom the Mobile is went in the Bootloop and cannot go to Bootloader and Recovery and also when I try using CMD or any other method from PC. The phone is not detected and it shows Device not found.
Can anybody help me recover?
You can read through this "roll up" to find all you will need to know/understand about your device.
I might suggest to start with the FAQ. You will also find a tool that will help you root your device, in the "roll up"
As soon as the phone starts to boot, hold volume down and power together, when the screen goes blank let go of power but keep holding volume down. This should get you to the bootloader, please post your bootloader details.

Hey Timmaa, it seems like I have the same problem as the original poster. I know a lot has been said about this topic but none seem to be as bad as mine. In my case, the boot loop won't stop even if I press the down volume and power button together. The bootloader just starts up, but then the phone reboots again (and again). In short, it won't stop long enough for me to do anything at all. Same issue when I connect to the laptop; it reboots before my computer even starts to detect it. Do you figure it is essentially bricked?
Just to let you know: this phone is tied to Singtel (Singapore telcom provider) and this issue only happened when I tried to do a factory reset (I got a new phone and was going to give this one to a friend). I may have screwed up in that I didn't let the phone charge before I tried the factory reset (it was only 5%). A couple of times, the phone did start up normally and it even entered the new phone set up utility. However, it went back to the boot loop within a few seconds and now won't even start up at all. Please help?
Does the phone power on at all now? You say in the beginning that it's looping but you say at the end that it won't start up at all, seems like a contradiction.

There is no such thing as "essentially bricked". Its either bricked, or its not. And on this device, if the screen still comes on, its not bricked.
Also, you got into this situation in a different way then the OP, so its not the same problem. Tagging onto someone else's post and saying you "have the same problem" when you in fact don't, is confusing.
As timmaaa asked, are you in a bootloop, or is the phone powered down now?

Hey guys,
Thanks for your replies. Sorry if that was ambiguous; I'm still learning my way around here.
To answer both your questions, the phone is in a bootloop. It starts up, shows the HTC logo and then repeats. What I meant by "won't start up" is that now it doesn't go beyond the HTC logo, even though it started up completely on a couple of occasions (got to the home screen) but started rebooting again after a few seconds. It just won't stop rebooting, as long as it has enough charge to.
Another thing I discovered is that the bootloader starts up even if I only press the volume down button (it reboots again after a second), so it seems like the power button is stuck pressed down. Do you think that explains it, and what can I do from here on? Thanks for your help.
Cheers.
If the phone is rebooting even while in the bootloader then the power button being stuck could be the cause. I've never heard of one of these rebooting even from the bootloader so that's actually all I can think of. I guess the only way to confirm/fix this would be to open the device up.

Yeah, it could be a power button malfunction; or battery or other power fault, or other hardware failure. In any case I agree that randomly rebooting even in bootloader doesn't look good.
Have you tried fiddling with the power button to see if you can get it "unstuck"? Although the issue may be with the switch under the plastic button.

[Q] TF300t stuck on asus screen. No ADB, no fastboot, no recovery, n

Hi Everyone,
I know there have been a few posts regarding the issue I'm asking about on this forum earlier but I do not see any real resolution yet.
The status of my TF300 currently is that it is constantly stuck on the Asus logo screen. The next screen of RCK, Android & Wipe option does not appear even if I try to do the Power+Volume combo. Hard Reset through that small pin-hole opening does not yield any result either. The tablet restarts and gets stuck exactly at the same Asus logo stage. :crying:
Worse, my PC does not even seem to recognize the device when connected through USB. Any idea what can be done to resolve this?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Nothing really happened before this stage. I successfully unlocked it as it showed that (and still shows) on the top left corner but I could never really get to the next stage to do anything. It just started getting stuck on that screen the moment I tried to reboot and get it to the options screen. Been stuck ever since.

Power off by letting the battery go dead. Maybe that clears some residual memory. Else it doesn't look good.
Thanks Berend
I did power off a couple of times by draining the battery completely but no luck. I guess it's time to lose hope now - unless anyone else has any suggestion. I see this as a problem with a lot of users but every suggested fix is overlooking the fact that we can't access the 2nd screen of options.
