What is the reason? I'm really curious about that.
We have one. Check here for a list of all roms. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887525
The only ones I found were Froyo with Gingerbread themes...
There are some what of Gingerbread ROM's ported from the I9000, with CM7, Far from a daily ROM. As well it is sort of difficult to actually flash, crazy kernel crap.
There is a team working on bringing 2.3 to the galaxy s. I haven't heard anything in about a month but they still had some issues to work out

CM7 for SGS
There were people working on porting gingerbread to the captivate but many of them are now involved in the project to bring CM7 to the i9000 and the captivate. The i9000 however seems to be the priority and it is not yet complete search for cmsgs on google to find out more
The problem is that we don't have the source to all of the proprietary Samsung bits, like hardware drivers, leaving some of the hardware either completely non-functional or malfunctioning. With the 2.2 roms, it's a lot easier because we have leaked 2.2 roms that were designed for our hardware, or the source code for other devices in the galaxy s line.
Though the Nexus S is similar to the Galaxy S line, there are a few hardware differences that make porting difficult. I've been following the CM7 twitter feed for the i9000 - it seems like they've figured most of the stuff out. The major hurdle was that the camera wasn't working, which it now is, and the remaining problems are all somewhat minor things - polling problem in the radio interface layer, wifi glitches.. Hopefully we'll see a proper build a lot sooner now that the camera has been sorted.
CM7 for captivate (stock gingerbread 2.3.3) is now working fine.

just falshed away from CM7 it is not all working
The main parts are working but many things still do not work for our cappys or the I9000 or the vibernt.
It is very useable if u dont use bluetooth, moible AP, Car docking, andmany other highly used featers.
It is fine for web surfing and Phone calls, and texting, and a few other minor things.
So for those of us that need the biger parts of the ROM to work it just isnt going to cut it.
I see there a few i9000 no CM7 2.3.2 roms also i have seen a vibernt 2.3.2 rom.
It comes down to no one has worked or completed work on 2.3.x to our cappys. besides the CM7 thats far from 100% ready for the masses.
I mean i can handle giveing up a few things but with a few custom 2.2 roms and a nice kernel i get benchmarks and many other scores just as high if not higher then CM7 2.3.3, and give up nothing.
So y flash and deal with a few reboots and force close prb i found with a few apps.
Btw yes i had the most current cm7 20110304.
i wish it worked a little better and i am sure it will it just takes time.
I figer this y work on that ROM when we have an i9000 2.3.2 rom unsure but i think it would be easier to port. then an non sammy rom.
But much many be learned there at CM7 helping in converting the sammy 2.3.2 to our cappys.
But i can say i am a bit unhappy that vibernt got the i9000 working on there ohones frist
Those are just my opions not tring to offend anyone.
I've been using CM7 with no problems
I've been using CM7 as a daily driver for a week now, with no issues. I love it actually! You can find clear instructions on how to install it here:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...7-for-samsung-galaxy-s-phones-build-20110303/
I would love to upgrade to gingerbread someday when they work the knicks out of it. I will wait til this phone gets old enough not to worry about abuse lol.

Agreed, I have been using Cyanogen and it's been reasonably stable, except for wifi sleep issues, a bit of bad battery life and when I pulled my battery and I had to rewipe.
But I have actually been very pleased with it, very snappy and I love all the customization!

The WiFi issue was fixed today, so we migth get an updated release today.
The one issue that made come back to a Samsung ROM is the camera. The picture quality is mediocre at best, and it takes too long to start. Its really unfortunate because otherwise the rom works way better than any other rom. Seriously, I just noticed today his ****ing ****ty the browser is in stock ROMS.

Hello. Since no one seems to comment on this, I was just wondering if people have been using newer captivates and if the GPS on those units is working? If you had one built recently and had GPS flawlessly working it could mean samsung quietly fixed the bug. Just wondering if getting a cheaper captivate over the atrix is worth it since custom ROMing on this phone is so easy and fun
Thanks a lot.
I got mine in December at Walmart for $48.00. It's a 1012 build and the GPS was marginal at best on stock eclair 2.1. On any custom rom here it rocks. I've had outstanding gps on Di11i's 6.0 and on Cog 4.1 with plumbbobs .93 fix.
But to answer your question, I'd say no,they haven't fixed anything.

I got my phone about 2-3 weeks ago. It's a 1012 build as well. Stock 2.1 GPS was terrible and rarely worked.
With most custom ROMs it has seemed to work much better. Whatever GPS fix FireFly 2.3 uses works GREAT. I've had 75%-85% luck with Andromeda and ~50% with Cognition. Its kind of a crapshoot.
My guess is Samsung is making these phones using the absolute cheapest garbage components they can - It's the only explanation for the varying results in speed, GPS, and overall usability on the same ROMs on 2 identical phones.
I'm running Andromeda right now and use a Speedometer app using GPS and it works pretty damn well to give me +/- 3MPH.
It works great in Srendipity, haven't tried it in movement but it finds me fast and with +-30 meters radius...
I have an older Cappy, v1008, and truly I don't find it that much worse than my TomTom.
There are distinct caveats to each device. The TomTom takes far longer to lock in new time zones, but tracks a bit better. Both hate the concrete jungle, ie the financial district in SF... Manhattan.
I have a 1012 build also and have a flawless GPS....and it was that way out of the box on stock Eclair 2.1 too! Now, on Serendipity, I get a lock INSIDE the house within 6-8 seconds. On stock 2.1 it wasn't much different either.
I'm just one of the lucky ones I guess.....
I never did and still don't have an issue on either Captivate I own.
I asked before if people with issues live in cities, which would explain GPS issues with any device.
Sent from my Dell Streak 7 using XDA Premium App
Mine is build 1101 and out of the box I have had no GPS complaints. It locked fine in less than 10 seconds indoors with Eclair, and still does that with Froyo. Outside, it's usually less than 5 seconds. Tracking seem really accurate.
mine is one of those 1101 versions...i'm guessing it's new since i've only recently acquired it...didn't even use stock captivate, went straight to custom roms and it's gps is pretty solid...alot better than my milestone if that counts for anything

- Eclair 2.1-update1
- DG's leak of 2.2 Froyo

On my 2.2 leak I'd routinely pull 2.5Mbps-3.5Mbps but since flashing to Cog 4.1 I can barely pull 1Mbps, IF THAT.
I've tried a couple of other 850 modems I found in SGS tools but one made it worse and one was about the same.
What can I do to restore the Internet speeds that I'm used to? This is terrible.
Please help! What modem should I try? I'm in the USA/ATT and have a Cappy 1010
Note: My WiFi speeds are fine. I get 10Mbps+ and I only have a 12Mbps plan so I'm OKAY on WiFi but 3G/H sucksssssss

If you are trying to use one of the i9000 modems (JK3, JK4, JL3, etc), you need to use an i9000 kernel as well.

I've looked at the modem thread but it's hard to make heads or tails.
I know I have to match the modem with the ROM, with Cog being Cappy KB1 based I knew I needed to stick to Captivate only modems.
I'm on UCJJ4 and it still sucks. I just want to be able to pull at least 2Mbps and I'll be happy.

You can give an i9000 kernel/modem a try. You don't have to stay with the captivate stuff.
For what its worth, JK4 gives me decent results in my area. You should just keep trying different modems since location makes a difference.

What modem was the 2.2 Leak based off of?
I also experienced the slow speeds after flashing cognition 4.1. I am now using the latest speedmod kernel and the JK4 modem and I get blazing data speeds. 5mbps down and 2-3mbps up. My gps works pretty damn well too

I'd was using the speedmod kernel and JK4 as well on Cog 3.02. If I stay with Cognition 4.1, I'll definitely be going back to them, becuase this rom LAGS big time, all across the board. And just because that's not annoying enough, the pinch-zoom doesn't work in the blasted browser, either. I've loved the Cognition roms, but I'm seriously disappointed in this one.
Maybe AT&T should hire DG. God knows, he built a hell of lot better Rom from the leaked versions of Froyo than all of AT&T and Samsung's people did with official access, and unfortunately, their bad work shines through in Cognition 4.1.1.

I ended up cracking open the zip file for 4.1.1, replacing the browser.apk file with the one in Cog 3.02 - which is quite a bit smaller, by the way - then re-zipping and flashing it to my phone*. I also went ahead and loaded jk4 and Speedmod's latest. Now pinch-zoom works again, the surfing/etc., speed is much less laggy, I was able to also add the Captivate's stock sounds, and (despite the cussing) a good time was had by all.
The battery life seems remarkably good, too, despite some pretty heavy use. And that's even though I haven't yet had the chance to calibrate it or clear stats and caches. I wonder what it'll be like after a few drain-outs and charge-ups?
Guess I'll keep the rom around for a bit and see.
*After flashing back to stock and master clearing; old habits die hard.
Sorry guys, but I'm a bit lost.
I've had the phone since KD1, and then KF1 (Gingy) came out. But what is KF2 exactly?
I've tried Gingerbread KF1 and didn't like it (it was a bit buggy). Is KF2 supposed to be a more-improved KF1?
Thanks in advance guys.
I've tried both, and haven't noticed any difference. My understanding it is just a different radio version that may work better in different areas of coverage. But like I said, I've tried them all and don't see much of a difference, but I know some people have notcied a difference in speeds and signal strength.

I have just flashed KF2 today and so far I have noticed that it seems to be more stable.
I was having trouble turning on bluetooth. Using the status bar toggle would crash but using settings would work. That issue is gone.
Before I flashed my wifi had one bar and now it is full, where I could not stream radio for more than 30-45 seconds, not I am streaming indefinitely.
Overall it seems to be running smoother in general (animations, transitions...).
I like the good parts about having GB (netflix, minor enhancements) so I wanted to stay but was disappointed with the stability of the KF1 release. However, I think this one is going to fix the things I didn't like.
One thing I miss from KF1 is the CRT screen off Animation...oh wait!... Non-Issue...
This version is amazing and super stable. I can't imagine why it hasn't been pushed out officially...

EE4 wasn't a great modem either. Darn VIA radio.
But the GB builds have an issue with noises in phone calls that is still there in EP4P, if VZW is also seeing that in testing that could hold it up. And if they plan an ICS release for the phone Samsung might not try too hard to fix it - they obviously haven't been able to do so yet.

+1 The noise happens to me on any 2.3 rom, hopefully it's one of the issues they're trying to resolve before releasing gingerbread, though I hate to be part if the reason it's being held up

i think that something is wrong with my phone. It does not like any custom roms. It freezes and acts up often. Once i put the stock froyo or gbread it flies and works perfectly fine..... And gbread 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 were solid with no issues so far.
I think its the modem. I had my first static incall today after running the 2.3.6 leak for a week.
Never had that issue on froyo roms.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
There are some problems with this build as well. It seems to mostly be with the radio, echoing what people have said here. I've had a couple times where I could no longer send/receive SMS and had to reboot (where it immediately started working again).
There's some other weird things going on with the I/O. I use PowerAmp for music and I'm getting strange skips and pauses that I never had before. Could just be my configuration, but I'm still running pretty lean.
The latest rumor is that the OTA is happening on the 29th. That and $3.49 will get you a McRib.
GB is alright. They need to fix the freeze issue that has been on quite a few GB leaks. It doesn't happen that much on EP4P but it's still there. The modems on EP3 were great in the sense that the signal was SO much better, it obtained/held 4g with such ease. Then I upgraded to the EP4 modems and i lose my 4g signal like i did on EE4 but my 3g is actually usable now. Before the 3g speeds were so TERRIBLY slow i could never dream of browsing the web on it. These speeds are reasonable and i think these modems are the best so far. They need to combine EP3 and EP4 modems to make a solid, stable 4g connection but a very fast 3g connection when it does drop down. Ontop of all that they still need to fix the ****ty voice issue on all GB versions. EE4 was great with this but the GB modems make the voice quality sound like crap.
So, all in all, even though GB is clearly no where near ready to be launched i still just want them to push it anyway because that means GB source code which means CM7 which means CM9(if we get a dev on it)
I feel as the OP feels. As far as a bad radio, I guess I'm just lucky. I haven't had issues with data loss, crackling noise, Bluetooth problems, or anything else. This phone has been darn near perfect since I got it. The only real complaint I have (which really isn't a complaint) is battery consumption. I wish it was a tad better but I manage just fine. Oh, I do wish there was more memory too. I haven't been able to play a couple games because of low memory. Battery and memory are my only real issues at this point. Still, I'm overall very happy with the Charge and would have no problem staying with it if I didn't have an upgrade available.

Where did you hear that bro?
This release is solid
I was sick of waiting so I flashed this ROM to my phone and I have had the same results as the op. The phone is so responsive and snappy. It is like a new phone. I used to experience numerous data drops before and now, maybe a few in the last ten days. I have not had any of the static/call issues others have had. GPS is still slow to lock. Download GPS fix from the market and run it before you use the GPS...it helps IMO.
My battery life has improved since porting this release. I am a moderate user (phone calls, text, facebook, twitter, occasional GPS) and I get an entire day from my phone (7:00 am - 11:30 pm). I am sure streaming movies and gaming would cut it down significantly but the casual user will notice a big improvement in battery life.
Again, this is just my personal experience.
I agree that the latest version is awesome.
I guess I am really lucky as I have never had the slightest problem with data, phone call quality or anything else. My phone setup the way it is runs faster & smoother than my bosses Bionic.
The ONLY thing I would change if I could would be the poor battery life, but that's a fact of life with these huge screens etc.
