[Q] is it possible to Daul Boot Nexus 4g??? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to be able to dual boot two roms on my ns4g. So it would allow me to run two separate roms on your device at one time.
I think I would need a Dual boot compatible kernel, is there on for the NS4g??
like the Epic 4g, check this post out to see what Im talkin about
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155613

as far as I know , only MI-one has 2 system.
and that's not possible to have boot menu for 2 system for the moment

[Q] NOOB needs help w/milestone x

I have rooted an alltel motorola milestone x. From what ive read this is the same phone as droid x. ive tried several times to install roms from clockwork rom manager with no luck. phone just reboots and is back to normal. Should i be looking for milestone x specific roms or will droid x ones work. if i use one will it recognize alltel as my carrier or will it make my phone a big mp3 player
That your phone reboots to normal is an indication that no kind of installation took place.
At least your phone would NOT boot because you used an incorrect rom.
I'm note sure about droid x rom vs milestone rom, but did you check
this thread.
It has pretty clean guides.
There is also a subthread with steps for ROM installation that lists available custom ROMs.
Regarding your carrier i would make sure the rom you flash has a modem compatible with your carrier, i.e. right frequencies.

Do a backup of each one then restore the one you want to use. If there's any changes when you use one, back it up then delete the previous backup of that one.
I don't see how "true" dual booting would even be possible on this phone, as it would require that both ROMs be installed concurrently. A workaround would be a script that automates the backup/recovery process, but that wouldn't be as seamless nor as quick as what you would see on a computer, where the OS is installed on disk, not in ROM.

cwm 6.0.0.x on the infuse 4g

i see that the guys working on the jellybean port for the infuse are using cwm 6.0.0.5 or so -- how can i get this installed on my infuse without installing the new jellybean rom (yet) ?
just want to stick with aokp 40 until jellybean is done, but want to play with the cool new touch recovery too...
Some one would have to compile the recovery into the ics kernel....

I can personally tell you that cwm 6 is not touch...I used it on my vivid and there was no touch...at least the vivid has no touch...ill flash the vivid cwm 6 again just to be sure...
Even better...can someone who has flashed jb say wether or not the cwm has touch?
EDIT: Cwm 6.0.0.5 does not have touch for the HTC vivid...not sure about the infuse though...for the vivid it works just like the old cwm...use volume to navigate, power to choose

whether or not cwm has touch enabled or not does not have to do with its version.

yes, i know that as ive seen others with touch...thats why i said not sure about the infuse, the vivid one is built from official cm source so i don't think CWM 6 naturally supports touch...as in touch is enabled by some sort of add on/code edit-i could be wrong as i didn't build it nor have i looked at the source or anything so this is all based off of my observations of the vivid cwm 6
-jack if you've used the cwm from scotts cm10 build can you let us know if it has touch...i would pm scott but hes busy and knowing whether or not a recovery has touch isn't really necessary.
either way...doesn't effect me, im not a fan of CWM any longer and likely will not use it again for flashing roms
enabling touch isnt that hard to do in cwm. if you used the aroma installer on something like aokp on the infuse, youve used touch in cwm on the infuse. i know however its not enabled in the cwm6 thats with the jb rom. its just not a priority to fix right now. but im sure after getting more things working, itll be added one day.

thanks for the reply, yeah...im sure once everything is as stable as ics some one may look into adding touch, ive used aroma before so i know what your talking about there...im buying an infuse in a few hours so i will be able to actually test things out before i reply
as for aroma...i love it and i hate it...its cool that you get to customize your flash some what...but the size of the download can be so huge! especially if its an aroma built for the vivid...stock vivid is 600mb unzipped...zipped and compressed its 400mb add another few hundred megabytes in there for aroma add ons and your looking at one or two roms per gig lol

Could be wrong...but just based off only official cm source I don't think its touch based...i think the touched based ones have some sort of modification to the cm source

http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager <- both touch and nontouch recovery are both by clockworkmod. and again, version means nothing towards it. to get touch working in cwm, you just need to load touchscreen modules. theyre just not in any of the infuse versions yet.

With most non-samsung phones recovery is not built into the kernel(actually HTC are the only phones I know like this), its in its on little partion which means you can change kernels without changing recoveries
For the infuse the recovery seems to have always been tied into the kernel so when you flash a kernel you flash a recovery...
Now by you saying that you still have cwm6, that leads to believe that possibly Scott has somehow removed the recovery from the kernel...if that was the case though you'd think there would be problems with the recovery inside the ics kernel...so I'm thinking somehow your still running he jb kernel which somehow can still run ics??? Lol I'm kinda at a lost...that was just me typing my thoughts/thinking outloud/rambling on about recoveries
Makes me curious tho...
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
I think you're right that the recovery was partitioned somewhere and didn't go away. I was on an ics kernel. I believe this based on the build.prop info saying it was a 6/20 kernel, everything worked fine including Wi-Fi, torch, etc.
I was on JB and used Zen's toolkit to "complete wipe" then used the toolkit to restore to PA.
Edit: I flashed the latest yuma kernel because i needed to change this thing asap. I also just noticed multiple kernels have 6/20 as a date. The yuma kernel is signed differently with an "aaron" in the name that the previous kernel didn't have and is has a 6/30. I would have grabbed a screen shot, but i have ppl coming over soon and need to charge it so i can answer calls.
Well matt...here's what Scott had to say, the recovery is not in the kernel...its in recovery (assuming that means in its a seperate partion) so I guess as soon as you get cwm 6 your stuck with it unless you Odin/heimdal back to stock...
Now you wanna hear something interesting/cool? If the recovery is in its own partion then this opens the door for more types of custom recoveries! I was already planing on building an ics kernel with twrp recovery baked in when I get an infuse to work with...the problem with that though is as soon as you flash a Rom you would lose my kernel/twrp...but if Scott has it in its own partion then as soon as there's a twrp for jb I would be able to compile it and not have to worry about it getting erased from flashes..
Here's a video of twrp in action...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2VlpVKj1eI&feature=youtube_gdata_player twrp is my favorite recovery...its fully touch based recovery and you can also theme the recovery as the UI is built with xml codes...really cool-I have it on my vivid...its also based off cwm source...so its just as stable as cwm
EDIT...i like your profile pic/avatar...nothing like some $5 Hot N' Ready large pizzas lol

it isnt in the kernel, it is a partition. you cant boot to something inside of a kernel file, that doesnt make sense. you do however need a kernel capable of running whichever version of recovery you want to use. since fastboot is not on this device and many other samsung devices, there is a sort of failsafe in which recovery is written onto the device during system boot. which is why when you flash from a touchwiz rom to aosp rom, you have to let it boot up and freeze, then go back into recovery and flash again. you can look up partition information in recovery.fstab.

Actually...recoveries are built into the kernel...why else would you get red cam by flashing entropies gb kernel zimage
And as you can see in the picture (twrp Samsung github) they even state that most Samsung's must have recovery built into kernel..
Now it may be different with aosp Roms...but for normal stock Roms and stuff, i know for a fact that kernels contain the recovery...

hrm. maybe its some kind of uimage. dunno, doesnt really apply to the infuse though.

[Q] boot animation troubles note 2

I am not a complete noob, as I have changed boot animations on many droid devices, but for some reason I can not figure how to change the boot ani on my note 2 or s3. I have tried every single way on the internet multiple times. for some reason just cant get it. if someone could tell me if it is possible on the Verizon versions of these phones. both are rooted with boot loaders installed. stock rom though. maybe have to install custom rom, I am not sure though. any help is appreciated. thanks

Samsung Galaxy Discover S730M (and S730G) Custom ROM - by doctor_evil

No longer own this phone, and no longer have a copy of the rom so this is no longer being developed.
Thanks to @shifattk and @FitAmp for the overclock
Thanks to @Restl3ss, who is working on a rooted and overclocked, otherwise bone stock ROM
Thanks to @atmu5fear, who made the first flashable rom for the S730M, I based my Rom off your original release.
changes I made from the stock 4.04 image
Rooted
BusyBox
Overclocked to 1000mhz
Nova Launcher
Default Ringtone: Crank
Disabled power on and power off boot sounds
Bloat Removed
Theme Changes
Zipaligned
Replaced Samsung keyboard with the google keyboard (much better IMHO)
Stable
Working and tested. Tested on a S730M as well as a S730G
Flashing instructions:
1. Use CWM 6.0.3.1 Get it here https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1BxFtN0QItNUExLMHBWT1loQjg/edit?usp=sharing, flash with Odin)
2. Make a backup, if things go wrong for you, you cause use the backup to restore your phone's original firmware.
3. WIPE DATA/CACHE
4. Flash
5. Wipe Dalvik.
6. Reboot
NOTE: I can not and will not be responsible for any damage this rom could potentially cause on your phone, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caveat_emptor
Download Version 1.0 here

It's a nifty little phone. I personally think it's better than a Nexus S but just suffers from the typical Samsung pump and dump routine where they sold all their inventory to the carriers then stopped supporting it with any updates.
Good job! I have 3 versions of the stock ROM available for this device as well, may have been more appropriate for a base, there's stock, stock + root + Busybox, stock + root + Busybox + overclock. Find them here

If the cricket model you have is a GSM version then yes it should so long as its a S730M or S730G. If its a CDMA model then no.
CDMA

It doesnt take a sim card so no GSM. Is there any other ROMs that you would know of? We are kind of stuck out with this model, it kinda sucks lol.

You may be able to use the same CWM recovery on that model,
you should be able to probably use the same kernel to overclock your model too, and you can probably use the kitchen app we used to cook these different version roms for the 730M and 730G models to do your own custom rom, just remember before you start working, to do a full nandroid backup of the current rom so you can restore it back to the original (mostly stock except for the cwm recovery) firmware if you need to later on.
By any chance this will unlock it or do you know a way for me to get the unlock using hex?
Thanks to doctor evil for this ROM I was able to flash my phone but not before removing more apps (bell apps and oothers ).
I was wondering if anyone was successful in unlocking the tethering? Tried a few things out there and the best I could get was Bluetooth tethering with foxfi.
And it works!
@doctor_evil: I flashed your set after having played with @atmu5fear's version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2673097). I like them both very much and am still looking which one I will keep. I have not wiped data/cache (i.e. Factory Reset) before overlaying your version over @atmu5fear's one, and it did not hurt. I noticed the following:
Flashing your ROM did not again trip the ROM counter after applying the triangleaway script after @atmu5fear's ROM load (it did go off then).
When having a SIM in the S730M and after putting in the phone unlock password, the keyboard stays on top (this does not happen when no SIM is present)
My Battery-drain problem when having the phone powered fully off with a SIM installed is still there. Probably need to await a cooked custom ROM for this to be solved
The triangleaway script for the S730M can be found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2420184
The Battery-Drain S730M issue has been noticed by quite a few people (TELUS and BELL, both in Canada), and is unexplainable. When the phone is on (with SIM installed), power usage is normal, but when you power off the phone (with SIM still installed) the power-drain goes up dramatically (draining the battery completely within a few hours). When the SIM is removed, or when the battery is removed there is no abnormal drain perceived. The other thing is, that, when the device, with SIM and battery installed, is powered off, both the battery area and the SIM area get warm (not really hot), indicating SIM activity WHILE THE DEVICE IS OFF... Very odd. I am hoping that a new KK custom ROM would fix this issue as both 'custom' 4.0.4 ROMS I have tried now show the same issue, indicating it is either a hardware or a 4.0.4 implementation issue...
I am sorry I never responded back to you. I had my Cygwin install with my kitchen build environment running on a SSD hard drive with my OS and the drive crapped out on me and had to be sent in for a RMA. I had a easus todo workstation backup of my drive I was able to restore, but the backup wasn't current so I lost my kitchen environment. I never tried to set it up again as I had hoped that someone would have ported Cyanogenmod to the phone.
I may give it a try again as I just setup a vmware ESX host server here at home and I can allocate multiple cores and plenty of ram to the linux Virtual Machine I created on it once I figure out the best build environment and how to actually go about building CM successfully. Anyone know of a porting cyanogenmod for dummies guide I can use? LOL
