[FIX] Wrong signal indicator bars in UMTS mode - Droid 2 Global General

Thanks to a fellow user from Droid 3 fourm - The Solutor - this issue can finally be fixed very easy and have your phone displaying signal strenght in UMTS mode properly!
So all you need to do is edit build.prop in /system and change the line
Code:
ro.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone=1
to
Code:
ro.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone=0
and then reboot the phone. After this, the "stollen" 2-3 bars from signal strenght will be back and you will finally get normal signal reading on your Droid 2 Global while in UMTS mode.
As an extra - your signal bar indicator switches from 4 bar to 5 bar. Check the screenshot - not just 4 but freaking awesome 5 full bars! Cheers!
Again - lets thanks to The Solutor for this fix! link to original post
Edit: The Solutor already posted this in the dev threads - link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326323

Thx for sharing it works ok.

I can confirm, this indeed works well.
By the way, was there a solution to disable the annoying “No whatever networks were found, switch to GLOBAL mode?” popup? I'm a bit slow.

For the record I've tested the fix also in the Froyo rom and works too...

[APP] WifiNotify

Hello!
I have programmed an app for my own usage that I want to share.
It's simply a sticky notification showing wifi state (including SSID and other information if connected) and also if clicked, it changes wifi state.
Hope you find it useful!
You can install it from the Amazon Appstore or downloading the attached apk.
Changelog:
Version 2: Now shows an icon in status bar when wifi is on (connected or not)
Some more info.
Version 3: Auto update (on/off and time interval configurable), icon when wifi on configurable, text color and info in notification configurable, bugfixes.
I like it, it does exactly what it says it does. The only thing I could have wished that it did was have some type of way to enter the wifi settings menu when clicked instead of disabling wifi. I haven't found a good shortcut for this yet, as I use two different APs in my house (depending on which area of the house) and Android always connects to the last used one rather then the strongest connection, so I always have to go through and change it manually.
Otherwise, anyone looking for a quick way to check your AP and enable/disable wifi without an extra widget, this is definitely a cool, simple and lightweight app to do so.
It's good to know you find it useful.
About accessing wifi settings quickly, you can create a direct shortcut if you use ADW launcher or LaucherPro (I don't know if other launchers have this feature); you have to create a shortcut and then select Activities. In the list that will show up, you can select the settings app and inside it, wifi settings.
Icon in Systray would be nice, so u can see that WiFi is active (but not connectecd to a network)

Yes I did, however a few things..
I feel the notification bar should also display Connection Speed, Signal Strength in DB with the option to go to connection settings..
Thanks..

i definitely agree. there aren't really any good widgets that show this information, and it is quite useful, in addition to the AP name. if this could be added, it would be near perfect.
Thanks for the feedback.
I agree, that info may be useful.
I'll try to show it in the notification.
how can I uninstall it from my HTC Desire HD. I use exented controls and have now conflicts when I tab airplane mode with exented controls and then return to normal mode , I have no more network connection
You can uninstall it like any other application. It should appear in the list of installed programs.
Anyway I don't understand your problem. Do you receive any errors? This application has nothing to do with your network connection... it only shows wifi state and changes its state but doesn't touch anything else.

I think this would be a great improve to your app.
Whats the status?
Thanks great app btw
Sorry for the lack of news.
I have modified it a little bit.
Now it shows an icon when wifi is on (connected or not) and shows more info.
To show info like network speed I need to make it update every X seconds.
I don't like this very much because that way it lost the simplicity.
Anyway I'm trying to make it configurable so you can set it the way you like (Just starting with Android programming )
This is the actual version (no config nor auto update): http://db.tt/dX8m7ao
Like the new configuration options and the infos (IP and bitrate), too bad the notification icon stays always in the status bar when co
nected to an AP; I think the previous behaviour was better, but it's my opinion.
Hope to see other improvement.

I get force close, when I try to start the app, by enabling wifi.
I used to use it on my desire with froyo, and it worked well (used the first release).
Now I installed gingerbread from leedroid, and installed the new version and I get force close. Reinstalled and still force close.
Any suggestions?
btw: really nice app!
I haven't tested it in gingerbread.
I'll try to test it and fix the problem.
Thanks!

[REQUEST][MOD] Hide 4G notification on 3.70

So, i upgraded to Fresh 3.5 which is based off of the OTA 3.70. and now when i keep 4G on and there is no 4G signal around that notification icon sits on the top left corner of the task bar. it's a 4G icon with an exclamation point on it and when you pull the notification bar down it says "4G antenna is ON, tap to scan for 4G service" can someone please find a way to hide this icon. I like to keep 4G turned on all the time and don't want to keep seeing this every time the 4G connection drops. TIA.
I second this!!
We can't be the only two to find this annoying.

Sprint could get all information from user.. note phone is rooted and flag account
No they can't, I'll called them today, no flagging or anything. And remember rooting is not illegal, and they cannot flag your account for doing it. Their saying this is a feature to save battery life. I disagree. My thought is they couldn't figure out how to get the 3G to 4G handoff to happen properly so this is their solution. BTW, I've had nothing but problems with 4G stalling since I've owned the phone so this is still an issue.
For those of you wanting to lose the constant notification. It's in the framework-res.apk You can use Gimp to make it transparent and then push the framework back to your phone. Or you can pull your framework and make your own flashable zip. Then you can keep modifying anytime you want to change something with 7-zip.
It's actually not in framework-res, and making the image transparent keeps the spacing allocated and continues to display the notification text in the "notifications" section of the drop down window.
So, having said that, consider the attached (flash via recovery) EXTREMELY experimental. It "should" remove all the corresponding 4G notifications. What I don't know, is if in doing so, it breaks the ability to automatically reconnect when leaving and re-entering a 4G area. This isn't as easy to remove as icons to the right of the status bar, or even some on the left. This uses android's built-in notifications framework, which requires ongoing services, etc, to report activity on the top left side, and in trying to break its display, it is certainly possible more than just its display has been "broken".
Again, give it a shot and see if it works without any unintended side affects. But, be warned, as mentioned, it may. Just not sure, as I haven't been able to test it enough to verify it works as intended.
Nandroid before flashing so you can restore more easily if it doesn't work as intended.
It flashed just fine, I haven't left my 4G area yet so well see if it effects reconnection. I let everyone know. Now I just need to change the scanning frequency interval back to what it was before because it seems that the interval is longer now, thus they put a button on the notification bar to instantly activate it. Thank you Sir for your help, and a Happy Christmas and Merry New Year to everyone.
After looking at the wimax setting the values that changed are-
Previous- wimax entry delay(s)600
Current- wimax entry delay(s) 300
and
Handoff Threshold
Previous - 0
Current - 6
I changed my handoff back to 0 and well see what happens, and I'll try 3 and report back.
I'm also going to lower entry delay and see what it does to battery life.
The (Previous) settings are taken from a post from July, so who know what there were a few weeks ago.
I can confirm that the .zip file works perfectly. Gets rid of the notification and reconnection works fine. Still playing with the scan settings in regards to battery life.
Finally, back on the forum. Thanks for making this mod. Downloading now and will give it a try.

Cool, thank for the additional confirmation.
Sorry to be so noobish. I just got my first android phone and just (stupidly) applied this update today and I hate how it doesn't reconnect the 4g automatically and makes me rescan. I really wish I could make the 4g how it was before.
My phone is not rooted or anything its just an HTC evo with a white backing right out of the box and updated. What should I do?
I'd be more than happy to donate to the developer of this method just need a little help here please.

You beat me to the same question. While it is trivial to undo, how did you apply in the first place?
I guess it is feasible to extract the apk from the zip, and manually click to install from your sd card, but somehow I doubt this is what was done...
Either way, for future edification, since you would have to know what apk it is, if you installed it this way, why not just download a stock ROM and pull out the same apk and re-apply?
This is what I have done and attached.

Signal bar mod for ls 3.2?

Hey guys. I was wondering if there is a 5 signal bar mod for liquid 3.2? That's one of the things that I really liked about bamf forevet, I know it's kind of weird to pick out something that small.. But, if anyone knows of a mod like that, please post the link or how to find it!

Icons
You can always download ROM toolbox pro from the android market. They have different icons that are different colors to pick from out of 1x, 3g, 4g, adb, battery, download, gps, signal, usb, vibrate, voicemail, and wifi.
It is, however, a $5 app.
Depends on how bad exactly it is that you want it.
Hopefully you can find a good battery mod for it.
Hope this helped.

Finally Satisfied with my Q

Today was a turning point for me. I am now finally satisfied with my Q. After moving from my HTC Touch Pro 2, I am now able to do everything I was able to before, and in addition, have a flashlight.
Here is a list is what I felt needed to be done and I have finally figured out:
Disable camera shutter sound
Force Roam
Wifi Tether
LED control (I like to see a red LED charging, and it turn green when charged)
Anything that I am missing out on with the Q guys?

If anyone is missing the notification toggle switches from samsung/cm there is an app in the play store called notification toggle that works great. U can add the flashlight toggle right to that also which is key.

How did you force roam? Was it for voice only, or data as well?
In my city, LTE isn't rolled out (and won't be for 6 months to 8 years), and 3G is getting worse daily. I'd love to be able to force roam onto a different carrier's 3G.

Go into dialer/phone, dial *#*#4636#*#*. This sometimes does not work, so just redial it if anything. Afterwards, go into "Phone Information". On the bottom right corner if the screen, there will be the menu icon (3 squares lined up). Click on it, then choose "Select Radio Band".
3 Options will appear:
USA Band - Does not seem to work
Cellular - This will force roam onto Verizon, US Cellular, etc (all companies that utilize the 850 MHz band)
PCS - Should be Sprint Native signal for the most part. (1900 MHz, so pretty much Sprint)
Note: As of now, this should work as a decent workaround to force Roaming, however, Sprint will be deploying 1x (Voice) over the SMR spectrum, or simply put, the 800 MHz frequency. I am not sure if the phone will connect to Sprint's 800MHz frequency when available, or it if it will connect to Verizon's 850 MHz. This will not only come into play in Network Vision areas, but will eventually impact all of Sprint's network, as all towers will receive Network Vision.
WARNING: This method has proven to be problematic as you cannot return to default settings. This means no Auto Roam, you will have to manually switch between Cellular and PCS until you can use QPST as a fix. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT QPST IS, DO NOT USE THIS METHOD AS IT MAY HURT YOUR EXPERIENCE.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for your stupidity or loss of contract for using this method. I am also not responsible if you become angry at your phone and throw your cat out the window, then punch a woman out of frustration.

[ROM]{4.2.2} Vanir 4.0 - Need help testing

WARNING: This is not a polished build, Team Vanir supports the N7 and so I figured why not the Tilapia, but no one on the team has one.
I am looking for a person or 2 who does not mind testing an untested build or 2 for me.
1) Test build - I know I need to add more telephony based apps
2) If there is an error booting/once booted, may be a theming issue and future builds will probably be stock theme anyways
3) Get it here http://www.emccann.net/dho/3-Vanir-mirror/4-nighties/02-18-2013/
If it works I will edit this thread to be more formal. But Vanir is fully loaded and FAST.
Bug report - enabling 16-bit transparency (with Franco kernel) makes the tablet un-unlockable.
Other than that - it runs nice and steady

Hi, thanks for sharing your rom.
Feedback :
1. APN needs to manually set
2. Bluetooth cannot turn on. After installing the fix through cmwr, it is resolved.
3. I'm amazed with the tonnes of customization hidden under settings - display.
4. It's very smooth during multitasking and loads fast in a default browser.
5. Have just finished restoring all my apps, last bit is to configure all my email accounts.
Great job!
Question :
Is there a setting to bring down the notifications and status bar to the bottom?

- What DPI you running? try lowering it to force tablet mode. This is likely something I need to work on. Option is under display/general
Bluetooth I incorporated the temp fix. It will be in the nightly I upload shortly (the current one for today does not have it)
The APN, it seems google took out auto-APN support a few months back. I am not clear as to why. If you point me in the direction of a ROM with working auto-APN, I will merge the differences.
Keep giving me feedback and I will get everything sorted out

Looks like nothing has changed.
1. Bluetooth still can't turn on
2. Tablet mode at 160 and Nexus 7 mode at 213, status bar and notifications bar still stays at the top.

a. Combined bar width port
b. Combined bar width land
After Nav button transparency, missing settings:
a. NAVBAR HIDE OPTIONS
e. Hidden Navbar Enable
4. APN still needs to be done manually, ie it's not automatically done. I didn't try to do it manually though, but I believe if done manually, it will work since the first nightly I tried works.

Fantastic! Hopping over to download.
Update :
Looks like nothing has changed.
1. Bluetooth still can't turn on
2. Tablet mode at 160 and Nexus 7 mode at 213, status bar and notifications bar still stays at the top.
3. Under settings, display, navigation bar, advanced settings, after the "Navigation bar width" section where there is some explanation of combined width help, there's a whole lot of missing settings:
a. Combined bar width port
b. Combined bar width land

Okay new nightly here: http://www.emccann.net/dho/3-Vanir-mirror/4-nighties/
Please see today's folder
Thanks for the continued help
1. I added a brand new patch, confirmed working on Grouper... so hopefully by proxy tilapia
2. I chipped at this, but I think I might need a few more commits, but would be excited to know if working.
3. I will look into these overlays, they are missing on all tab builds it turns out. Some I think are intentionally disabled
4. Okay try now, should be good to go.
