Hello!
I have programmed an app for my own usage that I want to share.
It's simply a sticky notification showing wifi state (including SSID and other information if connected) and also if clicked, it changes wifi state.
Hope you find it useful!
You can install it from the Amazon Appstore or downloading the attached apk.
Changelog:
Version 2: Now shows an icon in status bar when wifi is on (connected or not)
Some more info.
Version 3: Auto update (on/off and time interval configurable), icon when wifi on configurable, text color and info in notification configurable, bugfixes.
I like it, it does exactly what it says it does. The only thing I could have wished that it did was have some type of way to enter the wifi settings menu when clicked instead of disabling wifi. I haven't found a good shortcut for this yet, as I use two different APs in my house (depending on which area of the house) and Android always connects to the last used one rather then the strongest connection, so I always have to go through and change it manually.
Otherwise, anyone looking for a quick way to check your AP and enable/disable wifi without an extra widget, this is definitely a cool, simple and lightweight app to do so.
It's good to know you find it useful.
About accessing wifi settings quickly, you can create a direct shortcut if you use ADW launcher or LaucherPro (I don't know if other launchers have this feature); you have to create a shortcut and then select Activities. In the list that will show up, you can select the settings app and inside it, wifi settings.
Icon in Systray would be nice, so u can see that WiFi is active (but not connectecd to a network)

Yes I did, however a few things..
I feel the notification bar should also display Connection Speed, Signal Strength in DB with the option to go to connection settings..
Thanks..

i definitely agree. there aren't really any good widgets that show this information, and it is quite useful, in addition to the AP name. if this could be added, it would be near perfect.
Thanks for the feedback.
I agree, that info may be useful.
I'll try to show it in the notification.
how can I uninstall it from my HTC Desire HD. I use exented controls and have now conflicts when I tab airplane mode with exented controls and then return to normal mode , I have no more network connection
You can uninstall it like any other application. It should appear in the list of installed programs.
Anyway I don't understand your problem. Do you receive any errors? This application has nothing to do with your network connection... it only shows wifi state and changes its state but doesn't touch anything else.

I think this would be a great improve to your app.
Whats the status?
Thanks great app btw
Sorry for the lack of news.
I have modified it a little bit.
Now it shows an icon when wifi is on (connected or not) and shows more info.
To show info like network speed I need to make it update every X seconds.
I don't like this very much because that way it lost the simplicity.
Anyway I'm trying to make it configurable so you can set it the way you like (Just starting with Android programming )
This is the actual version (no config nor auto update): http://db.tt/dX8m7ao
Like the new configuration options and the infos (IP and bitrate), too bad the notification icon stays always in the status bar when co
nected to an AP; I think the previous behaviour was better, but it's my opinion.
Hope to see other improvement.

I get force close, when I try to start the app, by enabling wifi.
I used to use it on my desire with froyo, and it worked well (used the first release).
Now I installed gingerbread from leedroid, and installed the new version and I get force close. Reinstalled and still force close.
Any suggestions?
btw: really nice app!
I haven't tested it in gingerbread.
I'll try to test it and fix the problem.
Thanks!

Need something similar to the WiFi toggle, but for 3G/2G.
Anyone?
Bump...
Anyone? I can't be alone in wanting this??
Hi,
You can always toggle it in CommManager.
Yeah but the point is like the WiFi toggle - it's easier to have it on the home screen quicklinks rather than having to go into the comm manager
Find this program but not working well, is there any solution? thanks
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L37PKTA2
Looks like no one find it yet.
There are numerous requests on xda, but no real solution
I'd be interested in this too. The 'Advanced Network' program lets me change it, but it also says that I need to reset the device after I change the setting.
I'm looking for something that I can just quickly toggle a few times a day when I'm not actively using 3g.

So I`m new here and if my thread is not on the right place - sorry. And here it is my problem:
I`m using Widgetsoid Switcher Widget and have this very annoying problem that when i turn on something it not works (For example: I turn on my data service, widget indicates that it`s turned on but actually it's not. If I turned it on from the Settings menu the widget indicates it`s turned on and when I stop it from the widget it doesn`t stop). Same with WiFi and GPS... This thing is freaking me out so if somebody can help me it would be great or if you can tell me other app like that one with options for customization. Thanks in advance

Hi,
Try to uninstall, install and reboot directly after install (it's important!).
After go to global preferences and check "Disable all apn"
Create your widgets and it will be ok.
Now everythings is fine but Data Service still doesnt't work... Any ideas?
data toggle help
i had the same problem with the data/3g toggle on my htc evo. what you have to do is go to "settings->wireless & networks->then scroll down and make sure there is a check mark in the "mobile network" setting" in order for the widget to control it the setting must first be enabled. it took me and the dev 3 days to find this out.
also if that doesn't work go into the app itself and as soon as it opens it you should see something at the top that says data toggle mode. make sure that setting is set to "APN toggle" and not "APN rename"
hope this helps. remember to rep if it did
Thanks man
No problem

I had a similar problem today, it looks like the data switch in Widgetsoid places a dash in front of your AccessPoint name in order to block data transfer and removes that dash when you click switch again.
After messing with Widget I was not able to connect to net, I installed, uninstalled, etc, and then I noticed that APN list was empty, I had to add the APN again and restart it, I think (as said above) that you need the data to be ON then do a restart in order for Widgetsoid to properly read the status.
If you're rooted, use the new "root method" to toggle data. It doesn't mess with your APN & it works flawlessly for me. It's the first time I've had a data toggle that actually works.
A simple method
FIX = Settings>Location & Security>Select Device Administrators> *Uncheck Widgetsoid
Uninstalled

I know this is an old thread, but where is the global preferences on version 3.4.1 it doesnt appear when I click apply.

Stay FAR away from Widgetsoid. It can slow a Galaxy S5 down to a Crawl. Your Dialer will not function, Your phone will not respond. Its trying to load your phone with Ads or something and keeps your CPU busy, whether its a dual core or quad doesn't matter. Developer does not respond and does not seem to care. After uninstalling this App, the phone feels "new" again.
I believe this app is some type of Spyware/Malware combo. Why does it need access to my Contacts? Something very fishy and the developer never responds. It's a great Widget when it works but certain things about it don't seem right. Uninstalled!
This little app acts as a replacement or companion to the default systembar on tablets. It can hide and restore systembar on most Android 3.x and 4.x devices.
Also like similar apps it requires root.
Unlike "GMD Hidebar" or "Hide Bar" which are recommended for simply using the device in "Kiosk mode" this app is meant to be more like an replacement for the systembar. It provides two configurable softbuttons which can be configured in position, size, color and transparency or can be completely disabled.
Several actions can be assigned to the buttons. Each button holds up to three actions, one for short, one for long click and one for swipe above the button. Possible actions:
Nothing: Um, yeah.. this does... nothing. Not sure why I implemented this.
Go back: Acts as the known "back" button to navigate back within apps.
Go to homescreen: Shortcut to directly go to homescreen... just like at the original systembar
Show recent apps: Will show a little panel to quickly switch between recently used apps. Unfortunately the well known "swipe to kill" function of the original can't be implemented because the necessary permission is only granted to apps with systems signature.
Restore systembar: An action to quickly restore systembar. With the latest version this can also be done by notification.
Show notifications: The second most important feature of the systembar. It shows a panel displaying the notifications. It is a complete reimplementation so some features are not available for now. The basic function works well on most devices.
Open apps menu: Older apps usually display their menu-button within the systembar. This action now can open the menu for those apps.
Pie Menu: Opens a configurable Pie Menu next to the touch area. This menu can be configured individually for each event.
This free version is fully functional and should be absolutely sufficient for most users. For lazy ones like me, who don't want to manually hide'n'restore systembar each time, there is a "plus"version available which automatically hides systembar for selected apps.
Oh, and yes, the free version shows a little advertisment for the plus version once in a while... if you want to get rid of it: just click this advert three times and it won't appear again. If you didn't buy the plus version after visiting it's store entry three times you probably won't ever.

Thanks for your feedback.
The recent apps panel should be closed when tapping on back button or anywhere alse outside the panel.
Well there is indeed a issue when "short click action" is set to something else than "Go back". Then tapping on button does not hide the panel. Did you mean this? I'll fix that.
I just got a message the wallpaper-workaround does not work at all on one device.
Since the wallpaper-issue was one of my main topics I am eager to solve this.
At least me and some testers never ran into this problem: if anyone else experiences this, please drop me a line. I need to collect some information to delimit that issue.
update:
the latest version now introduces the missing Notifications Panel.
At least for me the missing access to notifications was the only reason to ever restore the original systembar. So now it nearly always stays hidden.
A little drawback: new notifications so far are only being reported by sound. My own tablet doesn't have a LED and Vibro, so I personally am not missing this.
Hope you like it!
Great little app and I would be happy to shell a couple of bucks for it, one suggestion if I may though: it seems to be the case that all those who develop this kind of on-screen button apps forget to put a feedback for when the button is being pressed (momentary change of color preferably).
Since your app seems to be of the most complete offerings I think it would be great if you were to implement it in a given future. Android devices are often no strangers to lag so a feedback of any kind (that the button was actually pressed) I think it would improve the usability by quite a lot and hopefully it is easy to be implemented too...
Again thanks for this great app, here's looking forward for future updates

Seems that those developers hardly ever imagine to operate an Android device with somthing else than their big Wurstfinger-thumbs
When I use the app I don't see the buttons since they are completely covered by my fingers. But you are right, when using eg. one of those attach-to-TV-Android-sticks which are operated by mouse and keyboard, and having systems touch sounds disabled, there is no feedback at all.. It's pretty easy to implement such optical feedback, soon to be done.
thanks for your suggestion.

Not much else to suggest -I guess- sort from allowing more actions (through the press of the buttons) but that can be done later... oh and a way to have the buttons accessible regardless of being fullscreen or not (for those who'd love to have "hot corners" at all times)... oh and a minor bug report now that we're at it: upon reboot the app gets superuser permission but does not procede to enable the service (even though I have "enable at boot" selected).
Again thanks for this great app, loving it so far
This works really well on the Nexus 7. I was using GMD gesture control and i had remapped my volume buttons so they could be used as back and home but this is much handier. I can now have my buttons back.
Many thanks
I bought the paid version.
I have been looking an app like this for a while, tried others but this is perfect for what i want.
Top job!!
The latest version includes visual feedback for button-press. I chose a not to flashy color, hope you like it. I am thinking of implementing the before suggested user-colorable buttons but this may take some time...

mhh, I could only confirm this behaviour when setting SuperSu to prompt for granting su-access to the app. Which su-Manager are you using?
Did you set your su-Manager to automatically grant access to full!screen? This is necessary because the timeout waiting for su-access is set to 10 seconds... Since full!screen uses that accessibility-service it gets loaded at very early stage... far before other apps get loaded. Depending on how long it takes to fully load the system the timeout might occur even before the su-Manager gets a chance to Display it's confirmation-dialog.

I was usuing "superuser" so maybe that was why; once I've installed superSu the issue went away and now it boots with my system I've I asked it to
As for the visual feedback it works great but it goes away a bit too soon (Google's own feedback lasts quite a bit longer when one presses -say- the home button) and also it's less than visible when one uses low opacity. I like how the color is discrete though, great choice :good:
All in all I'll recommend this to friends what a great app

installed this SnapChat on my tablet and could send and receive pictures without problems. I am just to blind to find a place to enter a comment to the picture!?
Anyway, I doubt I could do anything about another app complaining about missing systembar or something...

Anyhow, yes. Its a phone. Its my Xperia V.
I got quite a few apps tho, so it might just aswell be any other app aswell.
But I found it to good to be a coincidence when I disabled fullscreen and then it worked.
The FC still happends when I dont comment btw.
But it might be SC complaining ofcourse. But its no problem, I just added an invisible button to get the systembar back before I take pictures with SC.
Your app is the only one working properly btw. the lower left and right buttons that you've added are perfect. I can make them small and invisible wich makes it perfect. GREAT job!
Keep up the good work.
I'd like the option to have the notification bar on, but the onscreen buttons off, with just the corner buttons etc., if that makes sense. I like having the notification bar on, I think it's useful. Apologies if there is a way to do this already, I couldn't seem to find it.
It would be good if it rearranged the app icons too to fill the extra space better.
Or alternatively, I would like notification on, original onscreen buttons on but transparent with screen visible behind them, that would be a good option too, I think.
Thanks for the app though.

Unfortunately that not possible at all... at least not without patching original systemUI. Buttons bar and notifications bar are created by the same process. Disabling this process obviously means disabling both bars. I might implement an internal UI similar to the original systemUI some day. But thats at the end of a long list of wishes and suggestions I got so far, because it would take much, much work.
Re: [App][3.x][4.x] full!screen - App to hide/replace Systembar
Hi, this program is almost perfect for me, but I have a question: given that it's oriented towards tablets, ¿do you foresee any problem using it in a phone?. I've installed the free version in my Xperia T and it seems to work alright, but I want to be sure.

Turn off requires root privileges. We plan to add them both, but for now no power off is not an available action

I would like to use the triggers
- disconnect from specific wifi network
and
- leave location (fence)
Now you can only trigger on a network or a location (I'm guessing on connecting or entering, it's not really clear in the software)
I'm assuming they'll be added in the near future?

Remove Ads?
Just installed the app, I'd heard about it yesterday and just didn't get around to installing it. Like the look and everything so far. Question: I hate ads, is there a plan to do a Pro version or within the app pay to remove the ads on the bottom?
I've got no issues with paying for a good app and I think this is definitely a good app, but ads drive me crazy and I'll just uninstall any app rather than use it that doesn't give me an option to get rid of them.
Thanks in advance for any reply! Great work otherwise!

We are going to add an in app purchase to remove the ads in the near future. We wanted to provide the app for free yet cover some little costs like github hosting and developer accounts. I know they can be an eye sore at the bottom, but ideally you only need to see them once or twice. After we are set up you shouldn't need to come back into the app for much.

Would like to see the option to use secure settings as an action. Great app. Thanks!
Great app with good User freindly UI unlike Tasker which is too confusing.
Just 2 issues,
1-Why there is no Ringer Volume option in Action ? it seem it is basic thing one would like to do lower the volume of ringer at home and higher outside. I see all other volume option except Ringer.
2- I want to set a location base Triger but the map never load i only get the white page,i see GPS icon kick in my status bar for 2 sec and then disappear but no map loaded,. When I open Google map app it is working perfectly. any idea what is the issue ?

Hey thanks for trying the app. Call volume is the ringer volume.
Do you have network connectivity? I'm not sure why it wouldn't show the map. Unless it was not connected to the internet or the apk was signed with a different cert.

Thanks for the quick reply, You should rename the Call volume to Ringer Volume is people will get confuse. Because Call volume is some thing else it is the volume that is during a call.

Did you save the Location Trigger? Is there one listed in the Profile'sTrigger list? Is your GPS enabled? How about WiFi and Cell Location? If your device can not get a lock on your location there is no way for it to fire. Once a Location Trigger is saved we should handle the rest.
Is it normal for the GPS status icon to always be present in the right side of the status bar on Lollipop (V5.02)?
Location is enabled and is set to high accuracy. No apps are running (or present in the recent apps list) that make constant use of the GPS (IE: Maps).
I'm curious if this is normal behavior on this device. I have 3 other devices to compare to that have the same apps and location settings :
- Galaxy S3 -- Icon is always present when location is enabled (Android 4.4)
- Nexus 5 -- Icon only appears when an app requests use of the GPS (Android 5.1.1)
- Nexus 9 -- Icon only appears when an app requests use of the GPS (Android 5.1.1)

It does not turn off automatically unless you are running an app to do so. My battery saver app lets you specify a list of apps that need gps...when I run the app it turns on gps...when the app exits it turns gps off. There is also a free version of it..search for "Greeenpower"...it does require root for an app to toggle gps under lollipop.
Thanks for the reply but I didn't think that applied to Android V4.x and UP.
You are supposed to be able to keep your location toggle set on ON all the time and Android is supposed to only enable it when an app requests it.. I can clearly see this behaviour on both my Nexus devices running lollipop.
Since this phone is as close to stock android as I've ever seen I'm wondering if anyone else is observing the same behaviour I am or if else might be keeping it forced on unknowingly.

Well no offense but yours must be magic then cause I own both a nexus 4 and 5 and the gps doesn't turn off unless you or an app turns it off...same with bluetooth and wifi for that matter.

I don't think he means it turns off in the settings. But the location active icon in the status bar only comes on when an app is actively using it. My nexus 4 does this. The idol the icon is always there.
IMO, its probably just a software GUI change that Alcatel did. Unless it is draining the battery more than usual.
Non taken .. LOL..
Bluetooth and Wifi, when on do constantly show up on my nexus devices..
Location icon however, on stock lollipop will only appear when the GPS actually is in use. IE: It will appear when I load up google maps and disappear when I turn it off (on stock 5.1.1 on nexus 5 and 9).
I thought this was a feature baked into lollipop which is why I was asking. But from I'm hearing it's not.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply.. much appreciated.
BTW:
Looks like it's default behavior on at least one other device:

Maybe there is a secret Chinese system app that is continually tracking you with location? Haha
I was concerned about this too, and looked into it, I can 100% confirm that it's a software change. On the stock Idol 3 ROM, the location icon in the task bar merely shows that location is on, NOT THAT GPS is active.
If you're skeptical, download a GPS monitor app (some available without root, better ones available with root). You can confirm for yourself that the GPS monitor pings each and every time you use a location-based app (map, weather, etc), but not otherwise, even though the location icon is on.
It's constantly on for my Idol 3, but not my Moto X with CM 12.1.
A fix for this problem, if you have Xposed installed:

Very nice! Thanks for creating the module! Out of curiosity do you get the popup every time you install an app or module to select whether to install to internal, external or let the system decide?

Yes, I do. If I remember correctly, this started to happen around the time of the last update from Alcatel?

Thanks for the reply. Nice to know it's not just MY phone. On my 6045i it's been happening quite a while if not from the beginning but it's very annoying as I have not yet found a way to disable it. Even running "pm set-install-location" from a shell doesn't stop the popup. Normally the setting would be under settings, apps or settings, storage but doesn't appear to be.
I'd compare this to some manufacturers adding an NFC icon. They think the user wants to know (all the time) if a setting is on or off.
the icon appears for me always; even after I turn location OFF in the settings...
so is it a bug or is it on purpose?
i've noticed if you turn off the location and then back on, the icon doesn't show up until something does request location, but then after that the icon stays there forever
ps. i'm glad i found this thread i thought i was going crazy
Thanks for the module.

Please, could you suggest an app for GPS monitoring? I'm on a Xperia M4 Aqua Android 5.0.2 and facing the same problem. It's driving me crazy...
