Seriously, around 10pm at night my phones touchscreen becomes very slow and unresponsive and the only way to fix it is a reboot. this only happens when connected to wi-fi and only at night.
More over when playing games sometimes it seems to stop being a multi-touch screen. that is to say playing Gangstar for example if i am walking forward and press the attack button the virtual analog stick stops responding.
Is my phone defective or is this a common problem? I am on an unrooted desire s from Three.
SetCPU/ Juice Defender/ Any other crapware that could be screwing with your processes installed?
Which radio do you have installed? You can update your radio without rooting.
I dont have setcpu or juice defender, i have lookout mobile. might that be doing it? also using cloud based text prediction with swiftkey x.
As for the radio i'm fairly new to android, how do i find that out?

yeah I didn't think that would be causing it. It's just weird. I guess I'll look at using a newer radio or wait for the official update due this week sometime.

I can't recommend either of those. If it was your radio you'd see poor performance across the board, not just kicking in a set time.
The official update seems to have more problems and issues than Jordan. I see a new thread daily in the Q&A section about new issues since the OTA update. Avoid it like you'd avoid Jordan.
The best way to rule out user error is to factory reset. If it's a hardware fault of the phone, the problem will persist and you know it (unfortunately) needs to go back for repair. Backup what you need, and try it. After the restore, try not to put anything back on app wise until after 10pm. Perhaps do the wipe at 9pm. Use google maps to test multi-touch. Mybackup Pro from the market, although not free, does have a trial period (or it used to) that should suffice for this experiment. Plus for non-rooted users, it's worth paying for as a backup app. Can even save your home-screen arrangement.
If it stops then you know it was something you had installed/set-up or a hiccup with your ROM. To find out which from here it is trial-and-error. Install this which gives you back the battery usage monitor Froyo (Android 2.2) used to have....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
I'm assuming here that poor laggy screen response will go hand-in-hand with battery drain. Something kicking off at 10pm on WiFi should make itself apparent by moving quickly up the list between 9pm and 11pm.
Let me know if this helps. If not we can try a few other ideas out.
Thank you, I tried a factory reset last week, the problem was fine for a while but this weekend it started again, once again playing gangstar or any game that requires multi touch becomes unresponsive and te only way to fix it is a soft reset. I guess I got a defective phone. damn. its only 2 weeks old too.

So all is fine until gangstar goes on? I must admit i don't play many games, but it does sound like the game is at the root of this. Any other similar reports on the game in the market? Tried emailing the dev? Still don't understand why 10pm would be significant. Is it ok playing this game at other times? What happens if you manually change your clock to 9:55pm during the day?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
No not just gangstar, Gameboid, N64oid, GBAoid, NOVA, Spider-Man, most games.
I know but its always 10pm and happens every few hours after that until I go to bed. its just bizarre but the time might be a coincidense?
This may be a bit "out there" and a wild guess, but are you using a non-official charger when you play games? Say at around 10pm? I have heard that the cheap chargers from Hong Kong / China although they spit out 5VDC, it's such a noisy unrectified rippled DC output it hampers touch screen performance. See these examples...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejja4601NGQ
And this thread seems to sound like your problems...

Wait, when I'm at my girlfriends house I use her blade charger, might that do it?

Best way to check would be to use that multi touch test app mentioned in the last clip. Should tell you if your chargers output is causing the multi touch issue. Gotta be worth a try. HTC are taking up to 5 Weeks to get repairs done. My friend returned his desire s recently (fried eMMC chip) and that's how long it took!

Thanks wnp, i've come to the conclusion that it's faulty however. "Ghost images" are now starting to appear on my phone. Like right now even though I'm on the xda app I can faintly see my sense clock and icons.

Getting tried of watching my phone reboot. If going back to stock would resolve the issue I would do it. I called big red today and the pinhead I spoke to acted like it was the first time anyone had called about the TB rebooting on it's own. I'm looking at going to a different phone. I really think at this point it is a software issue that they need to correct. Just like with most businesses things are not addressed until they become a problem. So my thought is we should set a date when every one calls in to report their rebooting phones. We do this every week until we get a resolution. Anyone with me?
Wait... You are rooted and getting reboots? Are you on gb? Did you root or install your rom properly? What kernel?
Stock I had no issues. Non-Gb I've had mostly no issues... Some kernels less reliable than others, of course. But to be honest it sounds more like a user issue than a tb issue

Are you near a Verizon store? Verizon is usually very easy to convince that you need your phone replaced. (Although I think they will only replace it with the same model. But I'm not sure.) My Thunderbolt never reboots on its own but I know it is a problem that many Thunderbolts are experiencing, so maybe yours (and many others) is/are defective. I'm 99% sure if you go into a Verizon store and tell them that it randomly reboots all the time, they'll replace it for you.
I reverted back to stock and haven't had a single reboot or loss of data on three days. Just sayin'.

I have read posts where people who are not rooted are getting reboots after they took the update. Have never had an issue with my phone until I took the update. Am going back to stock for a week or so to see if that clears things up.
Funny how VZW is changing their stance on it, almost as if it never has happened. About a month ago I went into a store and they told me that Im not the only one experiencing problems and that there will be a fix within 2 months.
I called VZW tech support and they told me that no one else is having reboots.. . . . I dont get it.
Try flashing your radios, I put both of mine to .6 and the reboots stopped.

Can you specify what you mean when you say "both"? I have been getting reboots too - approximately 1 per day - but is there a process to flash each radio independently?

It is a hardware issue, that's where the few pricked phone came from,my original bolt had the reboot loop on stock but no one seems to want to hear that,it is a series of phones having the trouble and they are or have replaced most of them,as far as most of the other reboot go that is self made misery by not following directions or not reading to find the fix, this bolt I have now has no reboot issues and it has a mat finish to it,the other one and a few I have seen that had issues had a smooth glossy finish.

I would love to think its a hardware issue, but my phone was solid from day one. Then I took the update and get these random reboot.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
It is not a hardware issue. It is a problem with the update and how certain phones installed it. Verizon is in the process of making a new update and has been working on it with HTC for a little while now & expect to have it going out this month. For some reason the software does not talk to the towers properly with some models & the hardware does not get the proper info which causes the reboots. Exactly how to tell which phones are affected, I don't know. My friend is trying to find out for me.
I can say that I ran my phone with rooted stock & moved up to the rooted update when it was available which I am still on and I have not had any issues at all besides the low recorded video audio which the update seems to have fixed for me.
My phone is:
Rooted stock & radios w/update

I am telling you what HTC said they admit that a certain series is defective hence the snappy replacement. Just cause one Rom works and another doesn't isn't always the Roms fault, ever had a CPU that would run one OS and not another or RAM that worked fine on xp but not win 7 once the defective hard hits its limit it will fail. I have seen hardware work fine overclocked and the exact same hardware crash with half the settings,or a motherboard run suse fine but put Windows on it and it dies a week later. I didn't say they all were defective just one series of them and when they did the update a lot of the phones started to fail and some didn't,so does that tell you hardware or software,if one can run fine and the other fails its either a bad flash or bad hardware. Take your pick

I didn't do the update over the air on my other bolt, I downloaded it from HTC and it killed the phone, but the same download is on this phone and it works just fine, not one reboot, and its still stock and not rooted. The other one was dated Dec
10 and this one is dated Feb 11, I would just about guess they tweaked the update to weed out the bad phones faster, makes sense to me.

I wasn't aware of HTC stating there was some defective hardware. Never saw any references to it. If thats the case then glad they acknowledged it.
It's definitely not a hardware issue. Its a radio/ signal issue. Verizon does know about it, and is working on getting a new update out there. I know this, for a fact.

My TBolt is not rooted and before the update I had no problems at all but after the update the random reboots started. Battery life is acceptable but could be allot better.
Called Verizon yesterday and they acknowledge the problem and actually said HTC is aware of the problem and are working on it but have no expected date as to when it will be fixed. I believe it is definitely is a software issue and will be fixed when the official Gingerbread is released. Just my 2 cents.

i do not have the TOUCH SCREEN ISSUE
On my first set of sensations, my wifes phone had touch screen issues from day one and mine was fine for the first week then started all of a sudden. Now on the second set, both phones are pretty much useless when plugged in to charge. Both phones purchased here in Tucson. Same store, different build dates.

One odd thing i noticed. When you have difficulty in unlocking while the device is locked (Happens) mostly when the device is not in your hands, try touching the phone's body and unlock. It works.

Never had any touchscreen issues with my Sensation. I did have issues with my G2x....but a factory reset cleared that up if I recall.

I had this problem with my launch-day evo 4g. If you had it on a table where the phone wasnt grounded, the bottom half of the screen would not respond. This was really evident with a drawing app. I dont have time to experiment with my pone today but maybe someone else can try that.

....oh boy......here we go again.....the same thing was said about the nexus one....people constantly whined about it having a "grounding issue"...then an update was released and the "issue" people had with "grounding" was gone......
There is no "grounding issue" with the phone. Simple as that.
I have two G2x running 2.2.2 stock and have at least 1 battery pull per week. I can live with it, but my wife is a med pro and is on call. She can't pull her G2x out of her purse and find it's been dead (black screen, no key response, sometimes hot next to camera lens) for who knows how long.
I recently discovered that dayly commanded reboots may reduce the problem.
She NEEDS her phone - I can't spend time trying a thousand ROMs to fix the problem. Has anyone specifically fixed this problem by switching to a specific ROM? She does not need a2dp but does use GPS and camera. I NEED a2dp but may live with stock rom.
I personally believe this problem is a driver or app is going out to lunch, hammering a chip. After battery pull, the battery meter shows noticable reduction.
Other options are we can still bring our phones back to CostCo - should I get my wife another G2x? An HTC?
Thanks for any "desing of experiments" input. Like, "I had this problem and used this ROM or loaded this driver or ??? and the problem went away".
I can live with spurious reboots - just can't have battery pulls.
Please and thanx!
-Bob

That doesn't sound good... the OG Atrix had a couple problems with that but I've never experienced it on the A2. You should try for a warranty exchange... look at the noob thread and flash the fxz, apply the OTA update and then take it to AT&T.

I would also take a good a good look at the apps you use, some apps leave themselves running and take some good resources, and can cause your phone to overheat because of this. take a look at the resources in use from settings --> applications, go to the running apps tab, do this when the phone is hot and see what apps are taking a good bit of resources. Just a thought, as I have had this issue before, not on the exact phone I am on now, since I found the offending app and did not reinstall it the last time I got a replacement of this phone.
I wish I could check it when my phone gets hot, but when it gets to that point my phone boots me out. Not letting me touch it at all :/

Apparently the systempanel app (paid version in the market) can identify which apps were running when your phone rebooted, won't tell you whats causing it but may get you close. I dunno how to use th app very well though but I heard good things.

I've started having this problem today as well. Two days ago I noticed a very quick drop in battery level to almost nothing after going below 50%. Same thing yesterday and today. Today was the first day that I noticed the severe overheating.
I'm using the SCv5.1 ROM. I've been using it for about a month without trouble, but any chance that's the cause? I'd love to not need to return the phone to ATT.
The only time I experienced these symptoms was after restoring an AtrixBlaze ROM.
Flashed back to stock w/root, then OTA. Restored a backup of RebelROM. No problems since. Was very concerned for a day that it had some how damaged the phone.
I've been through Iphone, Palm Pre and HTC, this phone beats them all except for WebOS which was the software on the Pre. That was an amazing OS with a lot of potential.

I bought my Atrix 2 in India yesterday. Everything works like charm except the earpiece. The voice I get from the other party is so shrill that I need to keep my phone away from my ear to understand what they are saying . There are 4 settings in all to change the voice quality of the earpiece but it seems they are of no use. On the last setting, I can even hear my own voice from the earpiece. Also, when I tap my phone around the 3.5mm jack area, I hear a sound that makes me feel that something is loose inside. Is it a known issue or a bug or its just me who’s facing this? What’s the way out? Thanks in advance.

It has been about a year since most sensations were bought...
That's 500 charging cycles and for some batteries that's enough
Take your battery out and see if it got swollen or some liquid oily marks are visible, or even tiny silvery cracks.. those indicate the battery is dying.

Could this reboots be caused by bad radio or firmware? I am getting them too, pretty often and the story is same - different roms, nothing changed.

No matter what ROM I install, my phone turns off randomly. Whats going on? Someone please help if they have a solution cos I am seriously beginning to hate my sensation.

Need more information. Are you overclocking too high? Undervolting? Flashing back and forth between kernels without reverting some of the files they change? Mixing 3.32/3.33 firmwares and ROMs? Matching radio/RIL combos? Restoring old data through Titanium Backup? There's a whole bunch of stuff that could cause reboots TBH.
Have you tried running stock (firmware, kernel, ROM, radio) for a few days to see if the reboots keep coming? If they do, then it's your hardware and you should look into warranty if you still have one. If not, then it's something you're doing during your setup process.
I've just been running rooted stock ICS lately and my phone has been incredibly stable. I did get some reboots last week, but it turns out they were caused by the recent update to Google Maps. I uninstalled the updates and the problem went away.
Had mine a year and never had reboot issues!
You know what I love most about this thread?
The complete lack of usefull information like logcats, last_kmsg, and other logs as well as kernel info, firmware info, UV status/OC status.
@OP get those things then we can help more
My guess is you've updated your gmaps. Anything that uses any oart of gmaps/location service is fubared on the last update.
Thanks guys for the replies. Well as suggested I have formated my sd card, super wiped (using ARHD superwipe script) and installed the viper 1.1 ROM.So far no reboots, and I will not update google maps.Have been changing ROM's like crazy, so this must have messed up my phone. I will post logcats and other info if I get reboots now.
Again thanks for all your inputs guys, was about to throw away my phone.

That problem was driving me nuts every time I used maps or navigation. Uninstalled the update and all was well again.

-Anyway it's time for me get an Anker Battery as spare...
