So the latest OTA contains a new Hboot, radio and ROM but is there anything else worth having in the package (e.g. kernal, radio RIL files, etc).
I'm happy with stock but need root. The only way to get close to stock is to individually flash the Hboot, radio and rooted ROM from the realeases on the forum but I can't tell if there is anything else worth having to get close to the OTA release which HTC originally intended.
Hopefully not a stupid question.
Many thanks,
Damian

OK, I rooted my t-bolt but haven't done any custom ROM flashing yet. I checked today for the s/ware update and when it found it I chose "reject" ... 2 questions..
First, will this sucker eventually push to my phone automatically via VZW?
Second, should I install another radio (and if so for what reason?). I do have some intermittent GPS weather issues (right now it says I'm in Vosu, which I think is near Finland somewhere --- I can assure you the phone is wrong) but IDK if this OTA (or leaked) update addresses that or something different.
I do plan on, one day, running a custom ROM I'm just not ready for that yet. I would update the radio though if it does something for service or whatever.
Advice, thank you.
The new radio is a piece of ****. Don't bother with it. I don't think that HTC pushes silent updates so I wouldn't worry about it. Just check your software version to make sure you're still running the stock radio.
everytime i have had a rooted phone, OTA updates did not succeed in installing itself, even if i agree to the update, and am not running custom roms
So, I guess if it asks me I'll just keep telling it 'reject' - it told me where I could find it if I needed it again, lol.
this will stop it from asking
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077405
or showing up
and the OTA is the same the leak here by jcase and radio is also same as leak so if you flashed new mecha and flased new radio in hboot and ran this buildprop
you would be up to date like the rest just rooted atleast
I am very much interested in ICS ROM, but one basic question:
If the Radio is not good for my region, esp. the voice clarity thing, and I wish to revert back to the GB ROM with the current RADIO which is on my sensation....would the Nandroid thing work on it???? Or anyway to download the radio which is currently there in my sensation...if yes, How do i find out the Radio for my sensation??
Someone please guide me...
I was flashing ICS ROM yestarday, but things didn't go right. Restored NAND and everything is working, and i still have back my old radio.
I have seen a few reports of going back to a GB ROM over in the InsertCoin thread, so it would seem like reverting back would be an option. It would also depend on whether or not you did the full process of upgrading to an ICS ROM including updating the firmware, because I believe 4.0.1 can be run on the original firmware but 4.0.3 you must update it. According to what I have seen regarding InsertCoin anyways.
Also, I want to say that you can find your radio information if you boot into hboot. (Take battery out, hold VOL down and power). Not 100% sure though, I usually just use it to hop into recovery.
Hope I helped
I flip flopped a couple times now, just make sure u reflash gb firmware if u upgraded for ics, and always use the radio reccomended with the rom. I've had no issues.
Here's my last 4 roms, in case anyone cares.

I am currently running android revolution 5.0.2 without updating my radio or firmware and it is running very well. If I want arhd 6.0.2 then I would need to install new firmware. So far I am keeping my option to return to gingerbread without any hassle.
Flashing a rom or backup doesnt change your radio. You have to go through your bootloader for that. I havent heard any bad news about going back to GB as long as older 10.xx radios are flashed as well. And people have actually gone back succesfully while keeping newer firmware and hboot. And by people i mean me lol. I have a insertcoin GB 3.4.5 backup on tap i use regularly cuz we all know ICS is still learning how to walk on our sensations

Did you flash the radio separately? I am having the problem now as I did a NAND restore to GB, but the radio is still 11.xx...I think the battery is draining more with it. So I want to revert the radio back...but how did you do that? Just flash the radio? I flashed the recent firmware from December in HBOOT and even though it says the custom radio was flashed, the radio still says 11.xx
please let me know

You can flash a radio through hboot screen just like you did with ICS firmware. Im not sure but i dont think the firmware zip from the dec tmo ota had radio included as all radios are rolled up in a thread in the dev section. Theres a radio flashing guide somwhere too

Thanks..I just flashed the radio and it worked. BTW, which GB ROM is good and stable? I am considering trying it out while wait for ICS to finalized. You mentioned the insert coin?

Just wondering if you had problems with the Lock Screen display with the 3.4.5 insertcoin? I tried it, and somehow the lock screen won't display the icons..even when it's turned on from the settings

Would like to know who has the firmware to go back go GB? Because the nand backup isn't working.....
Never mind - found it right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20681060&postcount=22
Hi,
I just sent my One S to Vodafone because of the chipping issue (it wasn't very much but if they change it it would be nice) and I expect to get a new flashed phone back from them.
At the moment I have (or more had) the Virtuos 1.4.0 Rom installed because I kinda like the Sense look&feel more than the AOSP way but I wanted to have the 3-dot menu mod.
As the Mod is now available for odexed 1.78 ROMs and the Virtuos ROM isn't updated I'm thinking about keeping the stock ROM, clean it in parts with the ROM Cleaner and then apply the Mod (and maybe some other also) to still get OTA Updates.
My Question now is: What does the phone need to get the OTA Updates?
Somewhere I read that it would need the default recovery, is this true? and what else does it need? I want to have CWM to make nandroids etc. - would it be necessary to unlock the bootloader, flash CWM and reflash the default recovery if there are OTAs?
Also I'm thinking about changing the phone from a branded Vodafone one to the default HTC Eu version like this. Does this make it possible to receive OTA from HTC after flashing an RUU and what do I have to consider?
With an official ruu (eg. EU) you should always get updates. Although devs update moreoften.

Thank you for the answer!
But what can you modify and still get OTA Updates? I'm thinking as said about if the CWM as Recovery etc. affects the "OTA-Ability"
You need stock recovery, Stock ROM, All the stock bloatware. you may even need re locked bootloader.
its easier to run an RUU or wait for ROM devs to include the update into the ROM

Okay, so no chance to modify it a little bit without affecting the OTA ability
I have a nandroid of the default ROM so then I think I should be able to make an OTA by restoring the nandroid, flashing the signed stock recovery and then give it a try?! - As said the Phone is brandet so flashing a RUU would be a little bit more riskier
Mh... I'll just try it when the net OTA is there
My Problem now just is that the Virtuos ROM isn't up to date and every other ROM doesn't fit my needs
The MoDaCo is very "*****y" (doesn't want to boot sometimes) and misses the "Facebook for HTC Sense" and "Twitter for HTC Sense" apps...
Oh and if somebody is interested:
I got my phone changed without any discussion from Vodafone. They just sent me a new one and the delivery boy took my old back to Vodafone.
you could certainly try the Nandroid way ! lots have people have successfully done it this way
Hey guys, I was updated to the ATT 2.20 which I guess included the 1.14 hboot and have now rooted through the new technique with a custom rom. However I have found that the radio was not updated along with the rom and the radio thread states that I cannot update with the ATT 2.20. I personally do not care much but my problem is that my phone regularly reboots by itself in standby and it also freezes very often when someone calls in. I am pretty sure most my problems are related to the radio.
Is there any way to update the radio with the new hboot? If so could you please point me in the right direction? And I am running the Venom rom and flashed the kernel separately through fastboot.
My process was similar:
screwed up rooting on 1.85, forced into 2.20, rooted recently with new exploit.
except i chose cleanROM.
and i don't have any of those problems.

Can you not flash the radio through fastboot?
i personally like the radio that comes with 2.20. i flashed the 2.40 cm10 flashable and didn't notice a difference.
I also had a nasty problem with freezing/reboots when trying to answer incoming calls. Only way it wouldn't freeze was running stock software. I'm on 2.20 with 1.14 hboot. Every sense rom I tried caused the issue. Finally flashed over to CM10, a couple small issues but at least I can make and receive calls.
This is the first thread I've found where someone had the same issue as me, I swapped the first phone I got out for a new one thinking it was defective. :-\
So...
I have been flashing custom ROMs since the One S came out, but right now I am having a hell of a time figuring out if I am way out of date or if I am doing just fine.
All this OTA stuff and HBoot updates...
Basically, I have Hboot 1.06
I have the 1.08ts baseband
Running ChameleonOS ROM Android 4.2.2
So... There is all this talk of going back to stock, getting OTA, updating Hboot (which some seem to not want to do)
What am I actually missing if everything seems to work okay and I have 4.2.2?
Am I missing out on better reception or something? And how so? I can update my radio to 1.13 it seems by using the CM radio installer.
Am I just over thinking things? Or is something way out of date that I should update?

No reason to update hboot.
If you don't experience any related issues, you don't need to update the radio either. Although I had a better experience with the JB radio (at least the 1.15 release) than with the ICS 1.06es. It has now stopped the continuous switching between 3g and hsdpa.
Some people want to go back to stock because they prefer the HTC Sense experience, and I agree with them. But if you are fine with your rom, there's really no need to worry about anything.
