anyway to charge this thing up, i flashed cm7, as per thread instructions...i cant do anything now i got the M logo, batt too low in bootloader to sbf...and i cant seem to hit the recovery...least not cwm...i get the triangle one...thats it. anyhelp would be appreciated to fix my paper weight.
borrow a battery from a friend
good reason to have two batteries and keep 2nd one charged and in freezer if storing long term
did you try going in to bootloader with charger or usb connected and press power button to close bootloader to see if it will charge that way?
sometimes I can get cw recovery to boot when i hold camera button when powering up
take apart a charger and attach the red and black to positive and negative on your battery for a half-hour, then sbf. that's what i do.

Are you trying to charge it via pc usb or by the plug socket, as usb doesnt give euogh power out to charge a dead battery. just plug it in to the mains and leave it for about 2 phones (dont even attempt to turn it on)
ok...
can anyone tell me which 2 pins on the batt are neg and pos. also, can i take a old POS usb cable...cut it open and take red and black...or its gotta be micro...cuz if its gotta be micro ima just order me a ext battery charger., i loose more micro usb cables then the trouble is worth thats why i ask lol, anyways yeah i cant get into Clockwork or anything...just stuck at m...no charging.
usb mains
also sorry for double post, but i was using usb mains...and on pc...so im sol i think. thanks though.
ok i figured it out, battery was labeled
ok i c the batt was labeled, i spliced down an extra micro usb cable, pos and neg...for an hour the first time an 3 the second...it wont charge...its weird. i taped the extra two pins over wtih elec, then touched the wire to the red, taped it...and then the black taped it. nothing...any suggestions?
I hate that people are suggesting you charge the battery directly (Thats a surefire way to kill batteries, giving them unregulated voltage from usb). If you need to charge it... twist the wires for power back to how they originally were before you cut it. Then cut the data pairs (typically a green and white wire) then strip the end on the phone side of the micro usb plug. Twist that pair of wires together and it should charge. If it still doesnt than either the charging circuit is damaged, cable is bad or the battery is bad. That is how the factory cables supply power to the phone.
Sounds like a dang good idea

Would you be able to be a little more specific on that? im experiencing the same issues and would like to try your approach but im afraid to try it without more details. is there some sort of YouTube™ video that i could use?

ok so last night my NBD crashed and is stuck on the NBD splash screen..this is happened before and i just had to reflash it....
the problem this time is my battery is empty...i can jump start it (red and black wire from usb) enough to start the phone, but since i cant load the OS i cant start charging the thing....
1. is there anything i can do short of buying a new battery?
2. how long do u think it would take to force charge it with the black and red usb wires until its full enough to flash?
This happened to me, I plugged my phone into the wall charger and left it for about a half hour, it started taking a charge and I was able to boot it long enough.
however, im using an old razr charger, which the phone doesnt take a charge from unless its on....:-/
Do you get the red charging light when you force charge it? Try different miniUSB charger. Something similar to this happened to me just yesterday and I got it jump started with an iPod wall charger adapter with a normal miniUSB cable.
well by jump starting i mean...i take the battery out..take a usb cable connected to the comp, cut one end off..take the red and black wire and put it to the positive and negative battery ports..since the battery is out f the phone...no lights..
how else can u forcecharge the bat./
Stolli,
with the wall charger you should be able to re-charge:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321379
(especially post no.11 and following)
"Normally" also with a USB connection as mentioned by ND4SPD.
Cheers!
Sorry, I didn't know what you meant. What I meant to say by jump starting was just force charging the battery in the Wizard.
I don't know if this was understood properly, but when I meant a normal miniUSB cable was that I stuck that cable into the iPod's wall charger adapter.
Keep trying and good luck!

post no.9 may help ..
I got my Triumph and it will not charge no matter where I have plugged it in or fiddled with the charger. It does not matter whether it is on or off. I have been using the wall charger that's included and I have tried USB through my computer. Before I go to the hassle of sending my triumph back I wanted to see if there is a solution. Thanks in advance.
The first one I got did this sometimes as well. I took it back and swapped it.
Jumpstart
My triumph would not even turn on strait out of the box. I had to "Jumpstart" the battery, here is a link on how to do it. thejosea.com/2011/02/jump-start-your-droid-when-no-wall.html (Sorry i cant post links yet, gonna have to copy paste)
You pretty much have to charge the battery by its self outside of the phone. Once you do this let it sit charging for about 20 minutes then try to charge it through the phone.
You should only have to do this once.
It seems like the batteries are not being shipped charged and they run "Dry".
You MIGHT want to try a different USB cable.
I'm using my Nook Color adapter(1A) and a generic USB cord which works fine, however one time I accidentally used my Optimus V cable and it would NOT charge while the MT was up and running, however it WOULD charge IF I powered down the MT...
I haven't even tried the cable that came with MT yet... nor have I tried charging via a USB port on my nb, but I imagine that would be REALLY sssslllloooowwwww....
I exchanged my device for a new one, and with my new phone, when plugged in, the lock screen no longer shows "Chargin" with the %. Any ideas how to bring it back?
It only shows that if you're on an AC charge. If you're on USB it won't.
I've tried on 2 different AC chargers and it still doesn't display
Same cord? The AC pins have to be shorted or it won't go into AC charge mode. I have a couple of USB cords that work fine for connections to the computer but will not go into AC mode (the USB cords that come with the Optimus are known for doing this on other phones, incidentally....)
It'll charge without AC mode being "engaged" but at the 500ma rate instead of the 1A rate, so it will take a lot longer.
the answer is simple.....due to crappy crappy design of micro usb the charge port actually comes un-soldered from the board and obviously it no longer will charge nor will usb work!!! now before you ramble on with how do i know i wondered why mine wouldn't worked i opened the phone and notice the micro usb pins were not attached anymore....i have sent this in to Motorola which gives you a 2 year warranty instead of virgin mobiles crap $5 a month insurence then you still have to pay like $100 to get a new phone!!! so i will post how everything goes so far i know the repair center is in McAllen TX and they give you a free 2day shipping label valued at $100 to send in the phone!
You might want to try plugging it into a wall (not pc) and leave it for 20 minutes. Mine ran completely dry one time and it wouldn't display nothing until it charged for a while. If you've already tried this then definitely take it back.

*update* They are fixing my phone now and i should get it in 5-7 business days no problems they received the phone and started the repair
I had the same problem but different solution.
I too let my phone completely discharge to find that it would not indicate that it was charging or even power on with or without the battery being present, but I "jumped started" my phone. This is a weird technical solution that went as followed in its entirety, meaning, some of these steps might be pointless or useless but I did them and I now have a working resurrected MT in my hands that is charging. This solution is assuming that there is no problem with the micro USB soldering on the main board.
"Jump Starting"
1) Remove the back casing and your MT battery and place both to the side, but keep the battery close by for polarity reference.
2) Have another battery of the same 3.7v that is charged (disregarding mAh).
3) Now here is the fun part and pay CLOSE ATTENTION to POLARITY!!!
-Get two spare wires, preferably of different colors so you can tell the [+] from the [-].
-With the spare 3.7v battery you have, in what ever way you can, connect your spare wires to it, paying close attention to polarity.
-Now that you have your spare battery wired, CORRECTLY connect the wires to the inside connectors of your MT what ever way you can, paying close attention to polarity.
Being [+] connected to [+] and [-] connected to[-]
4) Boot your phone until you know you are at the home/lock screen. Then remove the wires from the MT battery connectors.
5) Use this same battery and connect it to your battery for about 30-60 seconds, paying close attention to polarity. This will give the battery some juice for the system to recognize.
6) Place the battery back in the phone without attempting to turn it on and return the back case to the closed position.
7) Now connect your MT to a powered micro USB cable and see if the red indicator charging light turns on.
-If so then great!
-If not then you may have some other problems
-If yes and no, as in the cable has to set a certain way for it to charge then just keep on reading for that fix as well.
"Loose Connection Fix"
This is how I fixed my loose micro USB cable and it worked for me, but I do not have soldering problems on my main board of my MT so proceed if you think this will help.
1) Your micro USB male side of the cable that plugs into your MT should look something like this (excuse the crude drawing of letters)
{the dots are empty space}
____________
\................... /
\UUUUUU/
2) Get a pair of needle nose pliers and SLIGHTLY pinch/squeeze the center of the male port closed so it looks like this
____...... ____
\.... \...... /.... /
\UUUUUU/
Except not that extremely bent inward, but you get the idea.
This will force the male tongue in the MT charging port to be forced onto the pins inside the micro USB cable for a better connection and thus fixing the loose connection problem
I hope this helps someone, it helped me save my $300 paper weight from actually being a paper weight.

I let my battery die down and also did a battery memory reset, then the phone acted bricked.
Then I tried this to revive and it worked!
Thanks for the help here I did this but when I connected the batter to the phone nothing happened. I connected battery to battery let sit for about 90 sec put it in phone and plugged in and the red light is now on!
Thanks!
Well,
add my phone to the list. It started about 2 weeks ago when after completing charge, instead of maintaining trickle charge it just let battery drain. I woke up couple of times in the morning finding the phone's battery on it's last legs. Now it simply refuses to charge by anything but my car charger. Lucky for me (and I thought I would never say it in my life) I have a long commute to work and it allows me to recharge the phone while I enjoy typical traffic delights.
I am going to call Motorola and discuss my options with them. I hate doing this as my phone is long since rooted and running CM7, so I will probably have to revert to factory settings before sending it off and if they decide to exchange I would be running a chance of receiving one with bad GPS.
yes i've had this problem to i have to charge my phone on a Samsung charger no motorola charger will work on my phone.
Sorry, I'm somewhat new here.
I have a Motorola Triumph and it just stopped working. The general idea is that the Micro-USB port was shoved up into the device?
How do you go about contacting Motorola about sending it back to be repaired?
I have delt with this problem SO MUCH, have you tried my battery charging fix yet ? I have the link posted in this section called battery charging fix, Hope this helps you it sucks when your phone won't charge.
Well the problem is that it won't even turn on. I think the battery has some kind of charge but when I hit the power button, it vibrates like it's booting up then stays off.
I don't know that much about phones, but from what I can gather off Google and the various threads on XDA (Great site, by the way!) the general consensus is that it's the micro-usb port.
Granted, I may be wrong, which is a very real possibility. Heh.
Well 2 things, have you replaced your recovery with the clockwork recovery image ? If so try any means nessary to get into recovery, My old Triumph would NOT charge with any motorola charger, I belive this is a defect with the triumph. You might try a powermat of some kind to get enough power to get to recovery & do what my guide says to fix this most pain in the ass problem, Or get another battery & follow the guide. It's worth a shot anyway. otherwise you've got two options replace it or open it up, if you're gonna open it up then get a super fine sautering tip or file one down to needle size, this is how I do precision sautering on circut boards.
No, I had downloaded Clockwork with the intention of installing a 2.3 rom on it, but never got around to it. As for the charger, my Triumph charges with any micro-USB, from my old LG and Samsung chargers to the Motorola charger that came with it. It acts weird though when I plug it into a computer, saying it is connected to a computer, then that it's not, then that it is, then that it's not, repeatedly. I usually just end up turning it off so it won't do that.
I find it weird, though, that now when I try to charge it, the charging light up where the speaker is will not come on, as if it isn't charging. (And I don't think it is charging.)
I've also tried putting it into the "recovery mode". (Like I say, not too knowledgeable about phones yet. Learning experience. ) When I boot it up (into "recovery mode" or "regular" (?) mode) it just vibrates like it should then does nothing.
Edit: It finally did boot into the "recovery mode", but the touch button things at the bottom (menu, home, back, and search) don't do anything, and I cannot get into the menu to do a factory reset.
I don't think it's the battery now? I am more confused then I was when I started, and appreciate any and all help!
I'm trying to figure out exactly what the five wires are coming off the battery. 2 red, 2 black, and 1 blue.
No amount of searching has given me any answers.

2 reds are probably common to each other, likewise the 2 blacks. (One way of increasing wire size for current requirement.) Blue would be the sense lead for charging.

Not sure I follow... without drilling through the case, you'll have to plug something into that 30p. If you are going to fabricate it yourself, buy another usb cable for the tab and incorporate that into your design. But accurate alignment to avoid excessive stress/wear is the problem.

A lot of blackberry phones have a charging pod style dock. I was wondering if it would be possible to somehow work that into a galaxy tab. Like solder on to the battery wires.
All charging pods that I've seen use the same phone connector you plug a cable into. Older BB's had pads on back, I guess, like a cordless phone. But you need a current limiter/regulator between the external contacts and the battery, regardless. Best go with the cable connector, like I said. But if you insist on hacking your case, you'd better learn how chargers work first.

a better question then is this... :
would i tie the two blacks with the blue or the reds with the blue to start the charging direct?
if i hook the charger lines direct to the battery with it out of the tablet all together using the red and black from the charger to the battery would i be using the blue wire at all? would i want to hook to only specific red and black wires? ( the USB pins have entirely crapped out... but a battery is just a battery and can still be charged (tested in another tab to charge still and then tested powering up the unit and it did power up so the problem is the pins in the USB port.) sure would be cool if someone could say the answer, but i will be taking another port of another machine and soldering it to my tabs motherboard....
I had the same problem with a Samsung tablet the USB port was all messed up beyond repair. I found a charging source with the same voltage (3.7) and combined both black together then the blue with the two red and the charger is indicating that it is charging. Haven’t plugged it back into the tablet yet but I’m sure that it will work.
So I would recommend connecting the blue with the two red
Yes. With any DC electronics the red wire will be load wire(positive) and the black is the neutral wire(negetive). But the ground wire(signal wire) accompanies the load wire. How will the signal move if it didn't?
If you bypass the charger port you won’t have the protection circuit that your original charger port has if I was you I would make a case with the 30pin usb connector invaded in it e.g tab will side and click in to the case ! You can the cut of the usb end and then make a 2pin connection on the back of the the tab case witch will then connect with ease to your prototype docking station I have done similar projects if you would like to elaborate on this with me feel free to email me at :
[email protected]
I’d be thrilled to help and show you things iv made on the same principle ! Happy inventing peace out
Steve
I took one red, and one black from the battery and same for the charging cord. The red to the red, and blk to blk. It charged just fine like that. Two batteries were charged, both Samsung tablets. Forget what kind exactly, it was almost a year ago.
Power key dont work... I need to make a bypass shortcut way to start which connection do i need to short to open my Samsung N8000 Tab..thanks
Hi everyone,
My first post as I haven't been able to find an answer. My Photon Q was probably about 30% charge when I last checked with it on. An hour or 2 later it was a little warm and was off. So I went to charge it using the car charger with 500mah charge rate. I came back about an hour later and the phone was really hot and no charging screen so I unplugged it. The green led light is lit when the phone is plugged in.
I tried holding the power button and volume down button, but it won't boot. If I have the usb charging cable plugged in from a PC or charger adapter when pressing those buttons, the green light will flicker off for a fraction of a second.
I then proceeded to dismantling the phone as I suspect a battery issue and the one in this phone is stupidly non-removable. After taking the back cover off, I tested the battery posts and received 0 volts. I still don't know if the battery caused the drain or if there's a short in the phone. I then took off the inside cover that holds the battery in. A few T5 screws later and the battery was removed. I connected the battery to some AA batteries in series to see if I could get a charge. A few hours later I got it up to 3 volts which held for several hours. So I connected it to a few more AA batteries in series to try and raise the voltage. I got it up to 3.67 volts and the battery is listed at 3.7 volts.
A day later and the voltage is still at 3.67 volts so I put the battery in the phone. I went to try and power it on, but nothing. I then connected it to a usb cord and received the slow flashing red led light a couple times before switching to green. The battery started getting warm again connected to the usb charger. After 20 minutes it was approaching hot so I unplugged the USB. The battery read 3.54 volts. 30 minutes later, 0 volts again.
Does anyone know what the actual voltage range is for this phone, as my old Samsung M320 is also 3.7 volts, but when testing the battery I get 4.10 volts? I heard it's pretty specific on minimum voltage. Any ideas for a temporary battery or way to boot the phone before spending $50 on a replacement battery and then find out there's a short in the phone. Is there another key combination to boot the phone, I'm trying to boot it to at least get my pictures and other data off it.
Thanks a lot in advance
Matt
Not the battery, seems to be an electrical short but where
I bought a new battery for the phone which had a 0 volt charge when I received it. I tried putting it in the phone as is to use the phone charger to charge it, but got nothing. So I charged it using 2, then 3 and then 4 AA batteries in series to get it up to 3.7 volts. I then put the battery in the phone and noticed the 2 large chips and the chip centered above them located by the camera get a little hot. I tried with the charger connected and not connected, but same thing. Power button doesn't turn the phone on. Just the green led lit when the USB power cable is attached. So now it seems there must be a short in the phone. Anyone know where I can look to check for a short, blown resistor or something in this phone? Or at least where the rom chip is located so maybe I can turn it into a usb drive to get my data at the least.
Anyone? I still haven't been able to find a solution. I don't see pins touching, but if some pins are touching in the usb port, would that cause the heat issues when I put a battery in that I charged externally? I do get the green led light when I plug the phone in to charge so figure that means the usb is ok?

Yep used the motorola cable that came with the phone (plugged in the wall and just the cable in multiple computers, another motorola house charger (the same as the one that came with the phone), a motorola car charger, and a samsung house charger.
When you say motorola usb service cable, I assume you're not talking about the motorola cable that comes with the phone? What usb service cable are you referring to?

hey im having trouble with my moto g charging it wont charge or anything and ive tried another chager in the house im not sure why its happening
I wouldn't recommend this since it could damage the charger & the phone, but if you squeeze in the middle of the microUSB just enough and then plug it into the phone, it ends up making a connection again. I've tried it on my old S4 a few times; worked with all chargers that wouldn't charge initially.

I've done this a lot. I notice the cables just don't stay put after a few months, and squeezing just slightly with a pair of pliers will tighten the male end of the cable and it will grip the female end on the phone better.
Squeezing the charger will work as long as you don't squeeze it too much.
cheers for the suggestions but ive managed to get it charging it just had to be at a slight angle to get it connecting again its still loose in the hole but its charging now im glad cyaogen mod has a setting for the light on the screen to be on when its charging very helpfull
