Hi, this is my first android phone (Dell Venue). I got it about 2 weeks ago, and have been trying to root it since. I have tried z4, superoneclick several versions new and old, and universal androot 1.6.1. Not sure if any of those shouldn't be used on this phone but am completely new and I have no idea about the terms being used or anything for that matter. I have tried turning off my phone and turning it on for superoneclick. I have tried to toggle dev access. None seem to work. The closest i got was with the 2.1.1 superoneclick and trying to turn it back on when it says, "waiting for device", this goes all the way to step 5 and then it errors out saying "remounting/system with read-write access...error: closed. FAILED".
I have 2.2.2 froyo on it and not sure if you require any further information. I would really like to root this phone, if someone can help me with pictures or a video on how i can do this or tell me what it is i'm doing wrong, it would be much appreciated. I have tried this on windows 7 64bit, windows XP pro, windows xp, and windows 32bit.
Please can someone shed some light on this for me?
Thanks,
Vai
Have you googled?? I did that for you and found this and this
Yes lol, i have googled, and i have no only followed that but several other forums and ways. I have also followed the thread on this forum as well. For some reason it just will not work and mind you i have 3 of these dell venue phones that i have been trying to root.

Hey guys, new to the forum here, and I really want to root my phone but I've been having some issues.
I tried the galaxy s captivate one-click root program, but it seems my computer isn't recognizing my phone correctly, therefore causing an error in the program.
I have downloaded all of the samsung drivers for my computer and followed the steps exactly for the one click root, all with no luck.
If somebody could help me out, that would be great.
Search the forums for z4root, you can root your device from within android using the app.
For anymore questions on adb or connecting to your pc, please read my adb for dummies guide(link is in my sig).

Hey, i have windows 7 and a captivate. I have mine rooted.
I used this page for detailed instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739304
If you have problems, post again on this and i will try to help out. This is the method i used, and it was simple. It is the "one click root". Just follow the instructions and you will have an AWESOME phone in no time.
But, one word of advice. Your phone may go slow after the root for about 10 minutes. Just bare with it, it will get faster and awesome. It has a lot to reload back up, and you will find the "super user" app on your phone afterward
Thanks guys,
I ended up having to sideload the z4root app, but from there it was a breeze. now i just need to do some research on which ROM i want.
I have researched and read everything I can find.I have tried to root it four ways and it will not root,it is a 001dl running 2.2.2,maybe I am doing something wrong.I dont know,I tried the super user update and when I click update from sd card it gives me a dell error message saying it has to be a dell update from the card.I am new to rooting but I have been reading and trying different things.I can not find much on this softbank version of the streak. Also thanks to anybody who helps me and just doesnt call me a idiot and tell me to read or whatever,I have read so much my eyes hurt.

Yea man.. powercamg4 is almost right (except for getting tired of a Macbook.. boo!) I was literally on these threads two nights ago with a very similar issue. I was never bricked or rooted to begin with but was trying to overcome rooting my phone already updated to 4.1. After hours of research and being stuck halfway through, it turns out the only way to get past the Jellybean bs is to either find a Windows-based computer to use, or use any one of those pieces of software powercamg4 suggests (or Parallels) to run Windows on. I know it sounds like a project, but unfortunately it's definitely the easiest option, and may even be the only at the moment. When you do that, head over to this thread in the dev section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439 and follow those directions. It works like a charm.

Linux is also a free and easy solution. Very easy to dual boot as well.

Vmware Fusion works great
I rooted my phone last night, unlocked the boot loader, and installed CM10. Everything worked fine in Windows 7 x64 virtual machine. The only problem I had was every once in awhile the usb driver would fail the install. I think that was my own fault not uninstalling the usb driver for my Samsung Droid Charge first before I started. Other then that it was a piece of cake.
Hello all,
I'm very new to smarphones, just got my first one, an old second-hand SGH T589W aka gravity smart, running gingerbread 2.3.6. I'm currently trying to root it and I need some feedback on that.
I have tried the superoneclick method and it always fails (stucks on the 7th step). Some quick info:
I have tried superoneclick versions 2.2 and 2.3.3
I have installed the samsung phone drivers from various sites, including the official samsung site
I have installed the latest version of kies
I have followed closely the guides from various threads (always allowing USB debugging mode, etc)
I have rebooted every time I installed/uninstalled something from the above
I'm using windows XP
Then I read a post about superoneclick not working with gingerbread.
So, my question is: Can my samsung gravity smart running gingerbread 6.3.2 be rooted? If so, with which method?
Btw, probably the answer to is somewhere out there, but if this is the case, please be gentle; I have already spent countless hours researching and trying.
EDIT: I'm also running linux but I assume most methods would be easier on windows..
I have looked on the XDA forums and have tried to root my device, but it is rather confusing. I only got to the part where the Linux identified my partition, which was nand, or something like that Linux didn't really make it to clear for noob standars, it just said nand a bunch of times in the terminal. I cant install Kingo, as a I only have a Mac and Linux, and the other method is very confusing. I tried installing Kingo apk on my X10, but it lags out at 90% every single time. Can someone please help me and also show me a custom rom that is very fast for my Dragon Touch X10, please guarantee no risk. Also can i download the adb thing on mac through terminal like linux did? Please help and explain as if you were talking to three year old. Also i tried finding my Dragon Touch X10 on the XDA site, but every time it goes to the X10 phone, my tablet has ultraocta A83 2.0 ghz 1 gb ram, 5.1.1 android. Also ive tried kingo apk on an old htc sense and although it did work, it screwed the phone up
Twrp does work but you have to get the name for the device witch is were I got stuck still trying
I take that back over further research you need to flash a old twrp for work
