Yea man.. powercamg4 is almost right (except for getting tired of a Macbook.. boo!) I was literally on these threads two nights ago with a very similar issue. I was never bricked or rooted to begin with but was trying to overcome rooting my phone already updated to 4.1. After hours of research and being stuck halfway through, it turns out the only way to get past the Jellybean bs is to either find a Windows-based computer to use, or use any one of those pieces of software powercamg4 suggests (or Parallels) to run Windows on. I know it sounds like a project, but unfortunately it's definitely the easiest option, and may even be the only at the moment. When you do that, head over to this thread in the dev section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439 and follow those directions. It works like a charm.

Linux is also a free and easy solution. Very easy to dual boot as well.

Vmware Fusion works great
I rooted my phone last night, unlocked the boot loader, and installed CM10. Everything worked fine in Windows 7 x64 virtual machine. The only problem I had was every once in awhile the usb driver would fail the install. I think that was my own fault not uninstalling the usb driver for my Samsung Droid Charge first before I started. Other then that it was a piece of cake.

Hey everyone!
I'm finally glad to say that i have oficially become am Infuse owner and android junky! My buddy was able to get me the Infuse while in NY after many other attempts and heartbreak...
This thing is amazing! My first android phone and I love everything about it so far. Too be honest, the size isn't nearly as uncomfortable as i thought it could be. Feels great in the hand, bit slippery thought.
The next step is to unlock the sim which I believe i need to root it first yeah? When i root the device will change to vanilla Froyo or will touchwiz still be there? What will i lose in regards to apps and widgets and things like that?
I have seen two posts regarding rooting and sim unlocking so far. This is my first adroid device so this process is quite new to me. Would you all point in the right direction for which you believe is the best newb friendly for to root and sim unlock. I will be doing this first thing after work on Monday.
Thanks for all the helps as always!
I'm sooo excited...
First things first....
Find and download the latest Samsung Kies and install....this will give you the latest drivers to root using super one click...
Sent from my Samsung Infuse 4G
Thanks!
When i plugged the device to my computer I saw that there were 3 options: Mass storage, media, and somthing about Kies. Do i need to download this on the device or on my computer? And then would i select the Kies option when connecting it to the computer? I know this all newb of me, but i do appreciate all the help.
you need to google kies find and install with out it you cant really root.
then head over to Android development and download both the root and unlock since you need it unlocked.
as regards for losing apps or touchwiz, they still will be there.

Kies will install like an iTune kinda thing, but doesn't work for now on infuse st the same time install the infuse windows driver, if yoi just want to install the samsung infuse driver just go to, http://www.junefabrics.com/android/driver.php scroll down and click the samsung

read the whole thread on unlocking. it may print the wrong line and not give you the proper unlock code. you may need to use adb to find it through instructions found in the thread. also you will need the usb drivers which will install with kies (unless you are on a mac then you dont need drivers for usb devices) but if you find the samsung drivers without kies that might be better.
when you root it will still be touchwiz. touchwiz is hard to get rid of, not that there is a point, it isnt a bad ui.
i actually used this to root and unlock. i subsequently tested it with a Tmob sim and it worked great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081072
but yeah, get the drivers first and then follow the instructions and you'll be well on your way to freedom!
Downloaded Kies
Dowloaded superoneclick v 1.9.1
When i open superoneclick, i have a few files like root, adb, driver...etc. There is also one that says superoneclick, do i click on this one and extract?
EDIT: I saw the other thread posted by lost1 that uses the Rage against the cage method. This has a root and unlock paired together which i'm thinking might be an easier way to go.

Unlocked Infuse in 10 min
The Infuse is my first smartphone ever and im getting used to it too. I read about rooting and such and decided to do it. I used the super one click method and it was easy. I just downloaded and installed kies which recognized my phone then ran the superclick program and it was done. super easy. dont think it unlocked the sim but im not worried about that though.

[Q] Problem with my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III

Okay, so I got the GS3, rooted it, and everything was going great. Granted, I'm a noob when it comes to android and all their fun little gadgets, I kept the stock ROM on my phone... than T-Mobile sent out the update for the phones, I didn't unroot my phone before the update. I updated my phone and it is now NOT rooted. I have tried to root my phone again, but have been unsuccessful. My phone now says its modified, and I can't check for updates... the app called Triangle Away no longer works, and I can't get my phone to say normal status. My phone is still NOT rooted, however, it says modified. How can I root my phone now that the update has come out and has been installed on my phone that originally was rooted? I don't have a backup of my stock ROM when it was rooted because the update deleted my backup that I originally had. I have a 2003 DELL Latitude C610 with Windows XP Professional installed on it, and was wondering if my laptop was compatible with rooting my phone? The first time I rooted my phone, I had to use a friend of mines laptop because I could not root it on my laptop.Thank you for reading, PLEASE HELP!
My advice would be to flash the stock ROM that you updated to, with an insecure kernel that allows root. You will also need a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM (find them in the first forum link below).
You should check out the T-Mobile Galaxy S III Android Development forum for a bunch of ROM options. Here is a thread within the forum mentioned above that details all of the information you will need, along with the ROM download links and plenty of instruction.
If you are looking to stay stock, I would suggest flashing the pre-rooted T999_UVDLJA ROM, located in that forum. Since you lost root you should just use the Odin method to get your new ROM loaded. Once you are up and running, I would suggest getting a custom recovery on there ASAP for backups/restorations etc.
reply
Okay, I will try your suggested methods and get back to you when I can.. thank you for your help
Okay, so I tried to flash the stock rooted ROM onto my phone, but the Odin program keeps getting stuck at "Get pit for mapping".. now I tried it on my friends laptop when I first wanted to root my phone and it worked, however, my friend isn't exactly willing to help me at the moment. Any suggestions? I have used multiple different cables and the cable I used on my friends laptop is the same one I'm trying to use on my laptop.. could it be my laptop that's causing the problem?
Hmm sounds like it might be related to your laptop since it worked before with your friend's box... Try setting Odin to Windows XP Compatibility mode with admin access. Unplug all usb ports except for your mouse/keyboard and try again. Hopefully that will let you get Odin past the "Get pit for mapping" issue.
Looks like this "Get pit for mapping" issue has been run across before, try reading up on it here if the above method still won't work.
Yeah, I couldn't manage to get it to work with my laptop.. I got it rooted with a different one though and made a nandroid as to prevent any problems on the future... Thanks for the help you had given

[Q] Any safe/easyish way to root my Samsung GS3?

I know you're going to say use search function, but everything I keep finding is very complex and difficult, or the downloads are no longer available. And sometimes there's a disclaimer saying that doing it that way could brick the phone. I wanted to try oneclickroot but it doesn't seem to be available at this time. So obviously the question is whether or not there's a (somewhat) simple way to root my GS3. I rooted my Droid Incredible twice and it didn't take more than 5 steps and 10 minutes each time, it appears to be A LOT harder for the GS3, and it's pretty much scaring me out of trying it, out of fear of bricking my phone. Thank you!
It's super easy, just read and follow all of the steps. And there's always a chance of bricking your phone.
I followed this guide and it was very simple and straight forward but I was on ICS. JB is a little different.

There is only one way to root jb at this time. Bob linked you to the post. It really is not as hard sf out looks, Judy follow the steps and you'll be fine. One tip make sure you unplug before trying to boot into recovery
If I helped you in some way.... pass on the favor and help the next person!
I went from rooting my droid incredible to rooting this phone and while it is slightly more complicated, if you have a pc there's really no reason you can't do it by just following the instructions.

Odin is really not as scary as it seems. It's actually a pretty straight-forward, easy procedure once you have the hang of it. Just remember that everything on GS3 is flashed in the "PDA" section of Odin.

So I could brick my phone even if I follow the instructions perfectly? :\ That seems like a huge risk. Would that be covered under warranty lol?? I just got this phone a week ago.
And I have a few questions before I start. Where on my phone do I put the superuser and bootloader folders? The root of the phone? Or in a specific folder? And when I run the Samsung USB driver folder one of them keeps failing. It's called SAMSUNG_ANDROID_SCH-i535. Here's the error message. http://imgur.com/Z3RRp. My device isnt getting unplugged and it always fails. I tried 3 times.
I had issues installing the drivers too. I installed kies then connected my phone. After that all went smooth I re tried flashing via Odin and it worked perfectly. FYI I ran it on my wife's win vista 64bit system tho Odin runs fine on any current-ish windows.

I installed Kies and I'm still getting the device unplugged error. :\
And do you know where I would put the folder for the superuser and bootloader on my phone?
Edit: Nevermind I tried it again, but this time I waited 5 minutes after the error, not intentionally, I just never closed the box. And it starting downloading it again in another slot and then it worked...SCH-i535 Successfully Installed. Yay.
But I still need clarification on where to put the Bootloader and superuser files on my phone. Do I need to put them in downloads? Or in the root of my phone like on my old Droid Incredible. I don't wanna mess that part up.
I had them in my external card root directory. However it's doesn't really matter where you put the zip files as long as you know where you put them when you go to flash it. During the flashing process it installs them in the correct directory.
I'm new to the GS3 on Verizon, just got the phone Thursday, was rooted that night. Granted I'm coming from Sprint's GS2 so I'm familiar with Odin, however, just as pdykstra said, it's not as scary as it seems.

[Q] Heimdall and SCH-I535 4.1.2 want to root.

Alright, there's millions of "HOW DO U RUUT GLXY S3 VRZ ON MAC????//?"
Well, I HAVE rooted my Galaxy S3, 4.1 I believe a few months ago using Heimdall.
I KNOW it works. FOR A FACT.
Please do not tell me otherwise.
Well, now I want to root my 4.1.2 now because I'm sick of having a boring phone again. *I like to tinker*
Is there anyone that can help me, with no access to a Windows computer, figure out a way to root my phone with a 10.7 Mac machine?
Would be greatly appreciate.
Cheers.
Unfortunately most of us have a PC running windows. If you successfully rooted your phone using heimdall without needed to come here why do you need help now? When Verizon updated to 4.1.2 it didn't break the current root method and developers seem to focusing more on windows and Linux then on the MacOS mainly because most of the world uses windows and Android is based on Linux OS. The only thing I can tell you is to keep using heimdall 1.4 release candidate.

Don't listen to the fellah above me. Adam Outler released a tool somewhere buried deep in here. I forget what its called but its coded 100% in Java which works on everything and that can root your device. Will edit when I find it.
Edit1: remembered its name, its called C.A.S.U.A.L
Edit2: I see your on Jellybean 4.1.2, so now your SOL using CASUAL. Bummer.
Here's Adam's stuff in a nice guide. However DONT follow it, you will brick your phone.

It is buried deep for a reason as it is outdated. He managed to root jellybean 4.1.1 using heimdall so I suggested to keep using heimdall as i doubt there are any other way to root this phone using an Mac. Almost all new methods to root a phone via a computer seem to be for windows and Linux. I have only heard of casual and heimdall. Casual worked for ICS but that method was borked by the 4.1.1 update. Heimdall seems to be the only viable option. The only downside is the lack of developers working on ways to root your device via Mac computers at least when it comes to this phone.

I am not the one who needed help so you could've use quick reply on the op's post since he is the one that needed help.
Alright, sorry.
I've been out a few days, but my S3 on 4.1.2 with Verizon STILL isn't rooted.
I did do it on Heimdall before, but that was on 4.1.1 and I seriously can't find anything on that anymore. I know for a fact I did it, I bricked my phone and also fixed it as well, all on my Mac. I just wish I could find those tutorials. Also, I heard that Heimdall and most one-click methods were cut off with 4.1.2. So... awesome.
I tried a virtual machine today, and that didn't work.
I have 10.7 OS X.
Is there ANYONE that can do it?
And for the Linux method, can I run Linux programs on my Mac? I am kind of confused on that.
I'm now thinking about dualbooting, (NOT USING A VIRTUAL MACHINE, SCREW THOSE) through Apple's disk utility so I could actually BOOT from it.
I just want this thing running the S4 software.. The S4 was released on Verizon today and I would LOVE for them to port over some features from that phone or I'll end up putting that leaked 4.2 S3 software on it.
Either or, I want to run a different rom. ):
Thanks for reading guys, I really appreciate the help.

Digiland 10.1 (DL101Q) Root, install Lollipop ?

I'd like to update these 3 before i give it to them. Thanks!

So did anyone get a custom rom working yet?
So far I like the quality of the tablet. I also brought three tablets one being the Digiland for myself and it is a very nice tablet. I just rooted mines as well through Root Genius. It's already on 4.4 so going from kitkat to lollipop isn't a huge deal to me. I'm using Buzz Menu as my home launcher and I Really like it! One of the biggest things I look to find in a rom for this device is multi-window.
Windows XP drivers help
I'm really liking this tablet as well.
I've been trying to root it with Root Genius as well, but unfortunately I've come across a road block.
I'm using a windows xp computer and I can't seem to find any driver for the tablet when you insert it in dev mode into the PC.
It asks for "MT65xx android" drivers and despite hours of searching on the net yesterday, all the drivers I have found online get rejected during the install driver process. I point the driver install to the right folder with the unzipped XP drivers, then it just fails and states it hasn't found matching drivers in there... I tried and found like 10+ websites with no luck.
Has anyone rooted it through a Windows XP computer? If someone could help me find the right matching drivers, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, I'm happy to hear people like this tablet, since I'm giving them as gifts.
"MT65xx Android Phone" driver
It turns out that most of the drivers I was trying must have been "MT65xx Preloader" drivers (the driver that is required when connecting the tablet when it is turned off).
Could anyone who has successfully rooted theirs point me towards a valid "MT65xx Android Phone" driver for Windows XP? That seems to be the name of the driver required when the device is turned on and with usb debugging turned on (the state required for Root Genius to work). Google hasn't returned a valid one for me yet since most sites tend to get the "preloader" and "android phone" drivers mixed up or poorly labeled, it seems that all the ones I found fall in the earlier category.
Rooted
ok so I have the thing rooted with root genius. Still looking for a rom, I have also noticed that this device seems to have a 2Gb partition and then the rest of the 16Gb in another partition. Is there a way to repartition this? Im a PC tech but very new to android. This site has been very informative so far.
I have rooted and downloaded the Original ROM for the DigiLand 10.1 running 4.4.2. I am currently attempting to load Lollipop on the system.
Can you please post the link to the original ROM, I have thus far been unable to find it.
Thanks
My first one did the wireless update after Rooting with root genius and bricked. Probably just bad download. Got replacement and updated and rooted, but having to use kinguser because of the issues supersu has with access to root from SD. Flawed for some mtk devices I have found. Lucky patcher and titanium backup won't work properly with supersu. Does anyone know if superuser has the same problem?
