[Q] Can't Flash Sense ROMS - HTC Inspire 4G

I'm having some trouble, I'm currently on CM 7.1, and for reasons unknown, I want to flash a sense 3.0 based rom. I've tried Android Revolution and Virtuous Unity, but every time I try flashing I get stuck at the splash screen and need to restore my backup of CM. Is there anything I'm doing wrong/ not doing? I always clear cache/data every time I flash.

Are you wiping the system partition too? Sounds like maybe old system files or something are causing the bootloop. Wipe that, boot partition, and the dalvik cache.

Good to know...someone had told me to wipe it every time. One less step for flashing roms then lol

yeah, and 99% of the rom installers will also wipe dalvik for you too. some of them even wipe cache

So if I'm already wiping everyting, what am I doing wrong? My phone's been rooted for about 3 months, and I've been switching between aosp based roms (cm nightlies, miui, ect) with no problem. I just can't seem to get a sense rom to work for me.

Is your version of clockwork updated? If not, flash it through Rom manager. You should probably flash recovery either way just to be sure. Then select wipe data/factory reset in clockwork, wipe dalvik and flash Rom. Let it sit for about ten minutes to let it boot up. It should hang on the boot screen for a little bit.

Everything's up to date. Last time I tried to flash VU I let it stay on the boot screen for about 30 mins before I aborted for fear of running out of battery and being totally screwed.

Are you selecting wipe data/factory reset through recovery. That gets rid of your android secure file that's on your sd card. You want it to do that.
Did you try reflashing recovery too as I mentioned in earlier post, regardless of if it is current.

I let it sit for about 20 mins, pulled out the battery, and wiped, flashed, and let it sit for another 15. I haven't tried stock, I just want a sense 3.0 rom to work.

Do I need to flash a different radio/ril? And if I mess it up, will a nandroid restore my old radio/ril?

Stop doing wipes after the flash. Custom roms load up things that will be deleted on wipe. I would flash stock and start from square one.
The ril will be included in the rom but you will have to flash the matching radio

Also, b3nny, I don't know if you have tried the ace hack kit lately, but it is fully automated now. It can return you to stock and back to root in under 20min. I would restore to the latest ruu "2.47.502.7" and root from there. I have done this and am able to flash any Rom for the inspire.

This. Will try this later tonight when I have time. I flashed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285663
but was not impressed with the performance (from what I can tell, it's not optimized for the inspire). Will try the hack kit method later and post back with results.

I flashed that one from day one and found version 4 with the matched radio (26.13.04.19 ) to be the best performance wise. I stuck with that as my daily for about 2 weeks and that's a while for me. I just flashed bindroids runnymede version (bindroid rhd 2.3.5 v 2.0) and it is really nice. Best looking Rom to date imo and it runs smooth too. I'm going to stay with this one until I see some ics.

CM7 to CoreDroid help

I was thinking about trying coredroid, but am unsure what i need to do to go from cm7.
In ROM manager coredroid is listed under downloadable roms.
Can I just download, wipe and flash like i do the cm7 updates or is there more too it ?
Looks like i might could start with coredroid 4.6 and the update from there.
Thanks
Yeah in recovery I would flash the full wipe.zip then flash the coredroid. Clear catche and dalvik under advanced settings. Should work

Is that all that's required as far as flashing new roms on the Inspire? First Android phone was the Captivate and I'm used to having to flash back to the stock rom before flashing something new.
Yes just flash the full wipe then flash your Rom...then clear dalvik and catche. DO NANDROID BACKUP!!!!

Problems after updating to the latest ICS firmware??!!

I have always liked making changes to my phone and after seeing the latest ICS released I thought why not... as we were being told it was backwards compatible
So I updated my firmware and played about in ICS for a bit but then decided it's not ready for me yet and I rolled back to my backup of HyperSensation
When it finished restoring I was greeted by the white HTC screen and that's all, it will now no longer boot my backup... "I have restored from this backup many times"
I then downloaded Android Revolution 3.6.11 and installed and it booted ok but I always have a problem with the kernel so flushed bricked as I always do and it stopped booting again with the HTC screen, I then re-flashed faux123 kernel on it again, and again it would not boot... stuck at the HTC screen
The firmware update seems to have messed up the ability to change kernels at all.. or roll back to an old backup, but new installs worked ok as long as i didn't change the kernel..
I then restored the H3G Ruu exe to my phone and that loaded ok and booted fine, I then tried to restore my backup that uses bricked 1.6 kernel and this time it booted
I then tried to re-flash the kernel and again I'm greeted by the HTC screen and it never loads
This firmware update has changed my phone and not for the good... even restoring the Ruu didn't fix it completely...
Anyone else have a similar problem with the new firmware

The partition layout for the 3.12.401.2/102 firmware is different, as explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
Indeed, but then restoring to an older Ruu should remove the changes right?
As the Ruu has the firmware in the update?

Hboot 1.17.0011
radio 10.43a.9007.00p_10.51.9007.27.m3
but all I know now is I'm unable to change kernels anymore or even reflash the same kernel over the top of itself..
What's your recovery?
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA App
I can see no reason why your kernel updates are failing. Check your downloads to have the correct md5 and if you still have issues try an alternate recovery(which I highly doubt to be a problem but anyway). Also check that you are downloading kernels compatible with your Rom, otherwise they won't work. Another tip when flashing kernels is to wipe cache after flashing. Good luck

After installing a stock RUU you need to install Superuser to root the stock ROM, and update the binary and busybox. Then you can flash kernels.

I had a similar problem with mine;I restored GB 2.3.5 backup, reflashed original ROM on top, and booted up fine. After it booted just fine I did a reboot and it wouldn't go past the first HTC screen. So, I flashed my 1.45 firmware (inc. hboot 1.18 & Clockwork 5.0.2) and still stuck at the same spot.
Finally, I flashed back the firmware from ICS 3.12, reflashed my 2.3.5 ROM, wiped cache & dalvic, fixed permissions, and rebooted... Strange enough, I booted to the setup screen, which I went through that to find my data gone. SO, I super-wiped and restored my backup, which booted & rebooted fine, and proceeded to reflash the original ROM again. Now I'm good.
Observation(s):
1. Reverting to Firmware to 1.45 causes bootloops that can only be broken by restoring ICS Firmware 3.12.
2. Even after reverting (1.) device will not be stable until you super-wipe. From there on, you can restore backups and flash a ROM as usual.
Hope this helps,
Cheers

Help, phone doesn't start up after firmware update

I have HTC Sensation 4G (T-Mobile) and downloaded the 3.2 firmware here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
I used T-Mobile one, though I guess it didn't matter because I have superCID. When I turn my phone on it keeps restarting at the white HTC screen, vibrates, then HTC screen again. Can't start up my phone.
Don't think it matters..but I did delete "su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed" a while back.
Just put the correct PG58IMG on ur SD card and let the bootloader do the update once again ..
Remember also to remove the pg58img file from the sd card after the installation of the firmware

Also keep in mind that when you install new firmware you have to wipe and reinstall your ROM. A lot of times the Cache and sometimes the Data partitions will corrupt when you install new firmware, so you will need to grab a flash-able ZIP of your current ROM (or Android Revolution HD, it's nice as well!).
Go into recovery mode, wipe everything but your SD card (of course) then install your ROM again from your SD card.

Yeah, it's for ICS ROMs, but I would think it would still work with Gingerbread. I'm not sure. I know from experience that if you flash a new Radio, RIL, Firmware, etc it is recommended to reflash your ROM, no matter what ROM you're on. Since the OS relies on the firmware, RIL, and Radio that you were using before, it can't load the new package without a wipe.
The situation is kind of like switching ROMs and then dumping the Data and Cache partitions from your OLD ROM onto the new ROM before it even boots. In most cases, it won't boot.

GROGG can post to tell for sure but the deodexed version is for custom ROMs so in theory it should work on AOSP and AOKP ROMS as well. A stock ROM will be odexed, but custom ROMs are usually deodexed.

The odexed version will work on a factory 3.32.531.14 rom. It will also work on any stock based rom that are NOT deodexed (I don't know of any).
The deodexed version will work on any deodexed factory based 3.32.531.14 rom. This will include Steve0007's deodexed stock rom, and it should also work on ARHD 1.1/1.2... It could also work on others, but if any mods or themes have been applied to the framework it will wipe them out!
I have submitted this for the add-on section of ARHD...

Alright here's what I did. Some info first:
Elegancia 3.0.0 (TMOUS Version)
Stock kernel
Proper Firmware
1. Made a backup of the Data partition because I don't want to have to re-setup everything again
2. Placed the .zip on my SDCard
3. Reboot into recovery and performed Factory Reset
4. Wiped Dalvik/Cache (even though reset wiped cache)
5. Installed .zip
6. Wiped cache again (could have probably waited until this step, but Grogg's instructions said to, and I must abide)
7. Restored Data from previous backup
8. Rebooted
Everything is set up exactly as it was before. Just thought I'd share what I did.

I will gladly discuss it here... Both Elegancia 3.0.0 and version B of my rom are using resources from 3.32.401.105 in order to achieve two functions:
1. Unlock APNs
2. Provide leedroid tweak compatibility
The only problem with this is the fact that they are no longer "true tmous builds". I refer to them as "franken-builds"... I have not gone through all the differences between framework-res, systemui, framework.jar, services.jar, etc... but I can tell you that certain small bugs have been reported with the xe build that others have reported as fixed in the official tmous version.
The APNs are written to apns.xml within the framework-res.apk. This is why we used XE components to unlock the APNs at first. You can distinguish what roms are built this way by the framework version:
TMOUS: 20120412.202737
XE: 20120321.232857
My unlocking mod is the stock TMOUS framework-res.apk, but it has the apns.xml from XE. This ensures that the rest of the rom stays in tact and that no bugs will be induced by mixed resources... I've also included this mod as an option during install on version A of my rom.

Alright here's what I did. Some info first:
6. Wiped cache again (could have probably waited until this step, but Grogg's instructions said to, and I must abide)
Everything is set up exactly as it was before. Just thought I'd share what I did.

Ya, I had that line in the updater-script on my test version and forgot to remove it.
Does anybody else's bootloader get replaced with the shimmering android bootloader?

That's because your bootanimation is in /data/local and when you perform a factory reset you wipe your /data partition...

Elegancia 3.0.0 (TMOUS Version)
Stock kernel
Proper Firmware
1. Made a backup of the Data partition because I don't want to have to re-setup everything again
2. Placed the .zip on my SDCard
3. Reboot into recovery and performed Factory Reset
4. Wiped Dalvik/Cache (even though reset wiped cache)
5. Installed .zip
6. Wiped cache again (could have probably waited until this step, but Grogg's instructions said to, and I must abide)
7. Restored Data from previous backup
8. Rebooted
Everything is set up exactly as it was before. Just thought I'd share what I did.

Just so everyone knows, Elegancia 3.0.0 already has the APN's unlocked. If you do this with the Stock Tmobile US rom and then restore your Data from the backup, it will put the locked APN's right back out there.

Call me crazy, but the mod involved the system partition, not data.

It's using the XE framework... It's not full TMOUS. This mod does not apply to it.

OK, Hi crazy... This replaces the framework-res.apk in /system, but a factory reset must be performed for changes to take effect because the APNs are written to /data on first boot. If you shortcut and restore your data partition then you're just re-writing the original locked APNs...
