Hi, Im wondering if it is possible to use a gaming controller, such as the phonejoy or other xbox, wii etc with the gameloft games on the Xoom?
Since these games dont have the ability to switch off the on-screen controls I was curious if there is an app or similar which will allow me to play for example Dungeon Hunter 2 HD on the xoom with a controller.
YES YES YES
Look for a cable that specifically states OTG or host. If you go on ebay and search "micro host otg" almost every result will work. Downside is that they're all shipping from China, so it takes ~2 weeks to get here.
then use and emulator of course a few good ones are: Nesoid, Gensoid, and the Super Nintendo emulators
remember to thank me....
DIDNT REALIZE YOU SAID GAMELOFT GAMES THE ANSWER IS NO THEN BUT YOU CAN USE IT WITH EMULATORS SO I GUESS YOU COULD GET THE PS2 EMULATOR AND PLAY THAT WAY

Recently bought modern combat 2 from gameloft and was quite disappointed to see no external controller support.
At http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038803 , someone seemed to be able to get the xplay gameloft games to work with a desire and a wiimote.
I'm curious if this is possible as well for the g2x. I ask since I noticed that gameloft seems to make different apks for different hardware and the desire is quite similar to the play in graphics chip and processor.
Also, is there a way that I can purchase xperia play versions without having the xperia play? I couldn't figure out a way.

PS3 controller and sixaxis is best, make sure its genuine
Hey guys. Looking to get a shield now as I love android gaming but my JXD S7300 starting to look a little long in the tooth. Games are struggling on it now so time to upgrade.
I did have a Sony Xperia z + gameklip combo but it just didn't feel quite right so I decided to sell and just go Shield!
Firstly, does anyone know where I can get one in the UK without having to sell my car first? The overinflated prices are ridiculous. Also, hows game compatibility? Another thing that annoyed me about the Xperia z was the amount of games that came up 'not compatible' which is why I went back to my Xperia play. Was tempted by a JXD S7800 but long term the Shield is probably a better investment.
Any help would be most appreciated guys.

For the compatibility, a lot of new games are fully joystick supported, for the touch only games, the mapper app works great. And a lot of the non compatible games, can be easily sideloaded and work almost perfect, and some of them, with joystick support.

Pretty much every game on google play is compatible now that we have the gamepad mapper. They are working on an update for the gamepad mapper to fix fps games that just use the whole right field of the screen to look around and aim. I haven't looked at ebay prices if that's what you're saying about overinflated prices but that's one option. I believe there is a way to purchase it in america, have it delivered to an intermediate usa location then have them ship it to the UK. You'll probably need a proper adapter though since the UK is 220v.

Thanks for the replies guys. I never like stock mappers but am familiar with Tincore and have seen that it works with the Shield so thats good news. Do many games see the controls natively though like with the Xperia Play or Moga?
Yeah, ebay was what I was talking about kieso. I cant get one on there for less than £350, either from one thats in the UK already, or one that needs importing with customs taxes! Thats like $550 or maybe more (not sure what conversion rates are atm).
Thanks again

There are some play games that are natively supported. Some gameloft games and others but I couldn't give you a number. The gamepad mapper is nvidias creation. A lot of times when you open a game the gamepad mapper detects that there is already a profile available for that particular game and it prompts you to download it. I think (don't quote me on this) that profiles are automatically shared among all shield users. If you don't like the given profile you can edit and save it.

With my app you can simulate other controllers as well. (converting your gamepad into a different one) But i think it is just a matter of time that most of the games support a "default" gamepad.

Oh wow that's your app! Youre a talented programmer! I don't know what gaming devs are waiting on. We've been trying for at least a couple years trying to map to controllers. It should be a standard by now to automatically include controller support. Do you have any other apps in the works?

Yeah all the time I have been using tincore on my s7300b and never knew you could simulate other devices with it until a couple of weeks ago. I was mapping all games but now games like asphalt 8 etc are ready to go with the moga profile!

It is a rather new feature. I think I added it about a month ago. I think that Mode P could be better in some cases to get L2 and R2 recognized.

What does everyone here use for a gamepad/controller? Wired or wireless? How do you like it?
I'm specifically interested in a setup for nes & snes that isn't too costly.

If you have a Wii, the WiiMote works great. Even better if you have the classic controller. It doesn't even need to be supported by the emulator, perse. You can set it up as an input device, so it'll work with any game that supports key input.
Just my pc connected with hdmi to tv + a set of 5.1 speakers + xbox 360 controller wireless
I use a PS3 controller for N64 games on my gaming computer, surface pro, and android devices. I usually use it wired, but I have used it wireless before. I'm not sure how much PS3 controllers cost since I got my PS3 about a year after they came out, but it works well if you can deal with the windows drivers if you want to use it with windows.
I use ps3 controller as well with the app forget the name. Works well with most games some require that analog input feature which can be sketchy sometimes. I used that with my old g2x with HDMI for PlayStation games. And Chrono trigger on SNES. Haven't put anything and my nexus though. Not much of a gamer anymore.

I'm testing out the Moga Pro right now. Early returns are it isn't worth the money.
And in case it want clear, my question was for playing the ROMs directly on the nexus 4.

I use the GameKlip with PS3 controller and SixAxis app. I put that set-up together the first week I got my N4 and have been using to play NES, SNES, GBA, N64 and PSX emulators with no issues. Its worked perfectly for me, especially since PS has the best gamepad for fighting games.
I was using a ps3 controller and a stand I bought. But I got tired of having to keep putting it on the stand. I went and bought a moga hero two weeks ago. The price is a killer and works alright. L2 and R2 doesn't work on epsxe. Fits in pocket nicely.
I'm using a Moga Pocket for emulator stuff.
I got a impulse controller from kickstarter but after waiting so long for it, I bought the Moga.
The impulse controller arrived like 2 days later
I use this...

So!
I finally own the Nvidia Shield.
I bought it mainly for emulators. I'm not interested in streaming PC games (I don't have a compatible graphics card in my PC).
I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted it.
My first reaction is that the Nvidia Shield is almost TOO powerful. Will there ever be an app, or game or emulator to max it's potential?
I'm not saying it's most powerful thing ever and that it will never be topped, but powerwise it feels a bit avant-garde for a handheld console.
I got a little disappointed when I tried Reicast.
It runs fine, but there's too many graphical glitches for it to be playable IMO.
No disrespect towards the developer. He has done and is still doing amazing work on the app, but I was hoping it would be more playable.
I have no doubt that if development continues, Reicast will run flawlessly on the Shield.
What fun is there to do with the Nvidia Shield?
Anything I should give a try? Emulator wise or just some Android game that is fun to play?
Will it ever be able to run a PS2 or Gamecube emulator on it's own, not streaming from a PC?
Well I've had two since launch date and love the shield still on bench scores out preformed the note 3 and as far as ps2 and GameCube or any emulator its not so much about the power of the device your trying to run it on as it is how well the person that coded the emulator did on coding it for our device and android because if for say you could put a ps2 disc in the shield and it was coded for ps2 it would run ten times better then the old ps2 hardware get me? A lot of people don't understand how that works so I just wanted to clear things up also game wise portal is coming soon to shield I love mc4 a lot and mapped mc3 and love it as well there's lots of shield supported games just gotta browse also some ouya games will work fine on shield sorry this is so long just wanna help anyway I can
You should Google something like: cool thing to do with Android. You have a rooted Android device so you can do anything you want, it's nearly unlimited potential.
It's a good device to use as a dedicated HTPC connected to the TV, you can control it using bluetooth or using another Android phone via DroidMote. Considering it have USB OTG you can connect a harddrive to it and use it as a DLNA server. It make a decent offline GPS as well.
PS. It won't be powerful enough to emulated PS2 (well).

Nvidia Grid blew me away. That capability poises Nvidia to become the Netflix of gaming.

Super crate box is also FANTASTIC on the shield, EVERYONE needs it.
The game is free, it should be ok to post here.
Obviously someone take this down if it's against any rules. (I don't think it is, It's free)

It should be noted that you can play this on any other device, as long as you have a controller.
here is the video if anyone was interested, I had a cold when I filmed it, but all is good now! http://youtu.be/hBO8i3a9wg0
