[Q] Help please, I think I messed up big time... - HTC Inspire 4G

So I was trying to root last night, and now I get n extreamy long boot up time, seriously it vibrates on white htc page for a full 2 minutes prior to it saying "HTC Quietly Brilliant" (vibrate happens in white HTC screen) then it will boot up to normal os. stuck on military time, and Super User with Visionary shows up in app list but not actually rooted. How can I fix this, and restore to box settings? I had no problems when rooting my captivate, so I figured I could do this one. I had to downgrade, so used JSL's method on driphter .com to downgrade, and started using Bubby's rooting. Bubby's still wouldn't work, so completed the rooting process with the one I just listed.

flash RUU then re root

I'm having an issue downloading The Ace Hack Kit, so I can't.. any suggestions...

You might want to try attn1's IRC channel.

I went there twice last night, and nobody answered me. not even a hi.
I am still trying to figure things out without bricking my phone, which i understand is actually hard to do.. lol

Most of us sleep sometime or another (I'm not sure about attn1).
Anyway, you've got the wrong hack kit. Popular demand forced ATTN1 to include the ENG hboot, but it was soon determined that the latest Inspires off the line were having problems with the ENG hboot so it was scrapped after a day or so. If you are still trying to D/L a link to the old one, then it will certainly fail. Get the latest here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
You WILL need to change your hboot. Reinstalling the RUU will do that, then you can root again with the latest.
As far as the IRC channel, best bet is during working hours US time (like 8am to 8pm PST or so).

Sorry, I didn't realize you all stayed logged in even when asleep. Sorry about that.
The link you provided is the same one I got my hack kit from. :/ oh boy..

Edit: irrelevant.

help i can not find my answer

How is it going everyone and sorry but I have another question... last night I started.bubbys one click root program and I'm guessing my gold card was bad because I think the SD card I wad using was not good.. so I got all the way to when the phone reboot into hoot and it started searching for the pd.98zip and it never got past the first search cause u know how on the video it take 3 times to load it the to start the update well my phone never made it past that first search and it just sat there for a looong long time so I took the battery out and put it back in and my phone booted up normally but now it seems like I'm ether have bad service or no service at all so my wife was wanting me to come to bed so I shut everything down till this morning so any advise will be a huge help and thank u. In advanced for any help!
the file on your SDCard must be named properly. it has to be EXACTLY:
PD98IMG.ZIP
if it is not, hboot will never find it. also, make sure its in the ROOT of the sdcard and NOT in a folder....
So does that mean when I'm formatting my SD card in the "volume lable" I need to name it that their? And would stopping were I stopped cause me to loose service? And if so how can I fox it because I may not be able to finish the root process? Could I just down load the gingerbread update from the HTC website to fix it??? Cause I think I may want another week or two to study so I cam do the hack kit because I've read a lot if really good thing about that?
And to the place I made it to last night cause me to get bad service cause I know it is supposed to downgrade my Rom but if it didn't even find the update I wouldn't think it would have worked.... or is my phone getting bad service for another reason besides the root program and to fix it could I just do the gingerbread update?
Anyone? Please lol I need to know if I can just do the HTC gingerbread update or will that not work now?
I believe the one click downgrades for root and then flashes a workable rom. It is possible you may be stuck on the downgrade rom. Go to settings, about phone, software information and see what your baseband version and software/build number is. If you are on the downgrade rom, I would just pickup with the hack kit menu 3 and then manually flash a rom.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using Tapatalk
In I checked it out and it said
2.2.1
Kernel. 2.6.32.21-96a5ff14
Baseband 12.39a.60.19u_26.06.06.30
Software 1.84.502.11
Browser version web kit 3.1
Can I just download HTC gingerbread and try rooting later? Would that be safe to do cause I can't mess with this any more today and my phone said it got service but I can't call or txt half the time so can I just do the HTC gingerbread update?
if you arent concerned with root, or flashing a custom rom, just run the RUU from HTC to do your update. it will get you a working phone
Ok well I am but I believe my gold card I made was bad and when checking for the zip file it never found it? And it seems it may have down graded my Rom cause I only get calls when I have edge... and after restarting my phone my notification bar said SD card broken? Or something like that and said I needed to format. So I did the format and the notification went away.. then I pluged my phone back n2 the computer and it said removable disk f as if I had never dine anything to it? .... And now the last time I tride it on my brothers phone witch had gingerbread so of course i found out that it didn't work for gingerbread but when his phone was pluged into the computer his SD card was recognised as a goldcard on the computer. And now I'm scared and am wanting to do the update on htcs website so my phone will work and I cam try it again in a couple weeks when I figure out what I'm doing wrong..
Yeah. You have a lot of reading to do. Bubby's one click is out of date and should not be used, as suggested in numerous threads....
Sent from my Inspire 4G
Yea I know I do lol so it will be safe to download the HTC gingerbread update even if my phone was downgraded and thank you so much for your help! Sorry if I'm being a pain..
yeah, just install the gingerbread RUU and call it good until you do some more research
Ok yea I did download the ruu update and all is well... Lol I've done a ton off research lol I've read through almost all of both bubbys and the hack lord threads watch bubbys video like 30 times lol and read through countless other info and.forums lol I've got this obsession problem lol so I've done a lot of research but I'm also a worrie wort lol and I realized when my wife got home that her phone just like mine had full servise with all the bars and she wad not able to. Get out either????? So I don't know what's up with that and thee was nothing wrong with my phone so it hadn't downgraded thee Rom or anything. BUT... Lol ima do a little more research on the ace hack kit and use that because I had read that that method was less problematic the bubbys method but I felt more cunfy with bubbys cause that method sooo ima read more on Tue hack kit and thanks for the help today and have a good one.. ohh and if my spelling is all jacked up its cause I'm on .my cell and I hate the spelling auto correct feature lol
I can't believe I actually made it through reading this thread.
bubby's oneclick is only still viable for making the goldcard since (at least imo) its the easiest way to do it.
After the goldcard is made you shouldnt be using bubbys guide anymore as it doesnt work for rooting (if on gingerbread).
Use Ace hack kit and you should be fine, but if you are still having trouble i can find you the website i used to root on 2.3.3 before the hack kit was updated to v12 that has step by step instructions with simple non-techie terms (was great for me before i started reading heavily on here)
Last thing, remember to completely remove your antivirus, not just disable! (sorry, had to throw that in there, i just disabled the first time i tried to root and got screwed lol)

[Q] eng s-off problem.

Hello to every one here in this forum.
I am posting here a topic about a problem I have with my new htc inspire 4G.
I had rooted my phone with success with the ace hack kit and loaded the revolution
HD rom .after one o 2 days II thought I load the radio that was given with this rom
So I went to make the phone eng s-off and I forgot to check the I have s-off.
Now the problem is I cannot get to the boot screen and when I turn on the phone it takes about half an hour to start. After that every thing is ok.trying every thing to get the stock rom back but no success. All the methods I found at this forum will fail. The phone just freezes and I have to take the battery to start it again and wait for half an hour to start.
Any help would be grateful.
Thanks.
Look for Gene Poole's s-on tool. Follow his instructions and return to stock. Then try the hack kit from attn1. You should be set then.

You need to get a proper hboot installed. The newer Inspires have some hardware just enough different that the ENG hboot and/or the older Froyo hboot images will cause just this problem. Since you were able to install this, then you are obviously S-OFF. As such, you can install a new hboot from the booted phone (once it is finally booted) but it is tricky and involves operations that could really screw things up. Your best bet is to jump into the IRC channel and get some real-time help with this:

Hello and thanks for your replys.
I am new to these things and i did manager to root my phone with sucsess and load a new rom. The only problem is with the hboot now. How can i fix it to be ok. If i have fast boot enable the phone starts up in 5 sec. if i do not i have to wait about half an hour to start after that every thin is working ok.
What do i have to do?
Any more help would be gratfull.
And sorry for my bad english.

Have you tried hittng the irc link above that gene poole posted for you??????
I got your 10 char right here
You should read up on this phone in the threads. Its been stated many places that eng s-off messes with the new hboot and you dont even need it to flash a radio. Hboot does this with a pd98img without needing eng s-off. But I hope you go to the link suggested and get it fixed. Stay away from eng s-off.

[Q] Very, very long boot time after successful root/CM7 install.

I didn't post this in the CM7 thread because I believe my problem was a glitch during rooting, not CM7 which seems to work fine.
I recently dropped my Insight 4G which had been rooted and was running the Revolution ROMs and cracked the screen. I purchased a replacement phone, which arrived with the Gingerbread ROM from AT&T.
I decided to try CM7 this time and followed the instruction on wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Ace to the letter on rooting, installing clockworkmod, and installing the CM7 roms. Everything worked perfectly with one exception.
Now the phone takes > 10 mins (closer to 20 actually) to boot every time it reboots. I have tried restoring a nandroid backup of the Revolution ROMS from my original phone and everything works fine, but reboot is still very, very long. Restored CM7 from nandroid backup and tried to install RUU file to restore the phone to AT&T, but the software times out due to the extremely long boot time. Everything seems fine on the phone except for the boot time and I don't know what to do next.
After reading a lot of posts it appears that the instructions I followed have a similar effect to using the outdated Ace Hack Kit here. (Wish I'd used the new one). I am well and truly "Jammed Up"
Anyone have a possible fix? I am happy to do whatever it takes... not worried about data.

What I would do is return to a full stock. Then run the hack kit. But that is just me as I have never donebit with the CM wiki instructions
This is a common issue with the latest batch of Inspires (post Aug, 2011 MFG). The hardware is different and not compatible with any hboot except the one that ships with the GB RUU. If you downgraded as per the CM wiki, then you necessarilly installed an older hboot and this is the root cause of your problem.
You can easily replace the hboot on an S-OFF Inspire once it finally does boot by simply writing the later hboot image to the hboot partition (partition 18). There's instructions here:
http://paste.pocoo.org/show/495273/
You can jump into the IRC channel if you need some one-on-one help:

Ok, after many hours of fiddling I finally got it back.
I used the hack kit to re-install the stock RUU using the alternate (hboot) method. It took a LONG time, but was successful. I then used the hack kit to re-root the phone and installed CM7 nightlies. The ace hack kit is a wonderful tool, and I thank the author for making it.

Hey Gene so what your saying is all Inspire batches post Aug, 2011 must be rooted using the current acehack kit only right?
And older methods of rooting will cause intermittent booting?
Crazy Food For Thought....

That is correct. The new AHK uses an HTC signed interim firmware patch put out for the DHD which has only a boot.img, radio.img and recovery.img. Fortunately, the radio and boot images are ones that are compatible with gfree and the S-OFF routines can be run without disturbing the rest of the firmware (hboot, system and data mainly), but unfortunately, the kernel is not compatible with the Inspire's graphics hardware so the process literally runs in the dark, and because of the GB changes, it must run in two stages involving both adb and fastboot. USB issues rampant among PCs (so many PC programs assume they are the only program you're ever going to run and so hijack the USB bus thinking you're never going to plug in any other device but theirs) so it is very important that both adb and fastboot drivers can run unimpeded. Occasionally a situation arises where adb runs OK, but fastboot fails and this leave the device in an intermediate state which is not in itself bad, but because there is a blank screen, users freak out and do everything but the right thing (usually involving a "wipe" from hboot) which really screws things up.

Help! Bought already rooted phone, it's having issues, I want to start over.

Like the titles says, I bought a rooted phone from someone and it's messing up so now I'd like to take it back to factory settings 100% with the latest update, and unrooted as well. I'm currently frustrated to be honest...I've been trying to do this for the last 6 hours and it's not working out.
Recently my number has not been showing up when I call people it just shows as withheld/unknown, and also when people call me it always shows their numbers as unknown even if they are saved in my phone already. I was told at T-Mobile these problems are just part of the version software I'm running on my phone and I should update it.
I've tried doing the latest update through the phone and it will restart then be stuck on the screen with the little green guy sitting under a triangle with a orange exclamation mark inside of it. I took it to T-Mobile and they tried to install the latest software and eventually (after many times trying to update it) said I just need to go home and find the latest software update and install it via my computer to bring it back to 100% normal as they cannot do it without it being hooked up to my computer.
Where can I even download the latest firmware/whatever it's called and how would I do the updating with the phone connected to my computer? Is there a guide I can be linked to to explain updating rooting/unlocking/etc all in one thread?
If there are any specific threads that already have this information please link me, I haven't found anything that helps me thus far! Thanks ahead of time for your help with this everyone!

Thanks for the link and attempting to help me but I've just gone to start that process and I already have a problem with it. My HBOOT version is not listed on the websites supported HBOOT versions.
I have 1.17.1111 and it's not on the list of HBOOT versions, there is only a 1.17.0011. So what should I do now?
I need to unroot and uninstall anything that would effect this process firstly (I'm not sure how to do that either). I want to do a total wipe of everything and uninstall all modifications to phone as well, then I want to re-do the best ones. So I will need to be linked to a guide to do these as, obviously, I'm one of those stupid needy nubs roaming the forums. Also, how would I go about finding and downloading the latest t-mobile update (Android 2.3.4 / software version 1.50.531.1) for this phone? The guys at the store said there was a new one that just came out and that I'd need to download it and install it via computer.
Hello
The first thing you are gonna do is write supercid follow this link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 - step 4
This is so you can flash any RUU, you want and not to brick your device.
After that find the a RUU that matches your phone company : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
After that run it on your phone. When you have done that, you should be non-rotted, stock recovery(means that you can install updates from HTC), but you are still S-off. Now this is a very tricky a dangerous thing to do.
I have done it before, and I did it exactly as I am telling you to do. Now click on this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
And go to step 5, and do as exactly it says, when done, you should be s-ON and now your phone should be as It was new
That is what I did and nothing went wrong, but don't blame me if something goes wrong
Nvm, I think I might have it now.

I followed the links on there until it sends you to filefactory.com and gives you a SUPER slow download. I have a 16mb connection and it's downloading at 20kb/s which is going to make this take 4 hours as this is 389mb to grab this replacement.
Can you tell me of another place where I could download this where it allows faster downloads without having to pay for a membership to get this update?

Inspire issues, possible soft brick, long startup, bad hboot?

So my Inspire has been buggy ever since I tried to ENG S-Off it with Easy S-Off.
When I go to turn it on, it stays off for 8-10 minutes, then FINALLY turns on and hangs at the white HTC screen for a minute or two and constantly vibrates, then hangs there some more, then EVENTUALLY turns on and works fine. It does this every time.
Do I have a bad HBoot? Do I need a new P****.zip file or whatever it is?
Anyone know what I can do to fix this? I tried flashing back to stock with the Ace Hack Kit, but that involves the phone rebooting and it took so long to reboot that the hack kit timed out and failed.
First off your first issue was messing with Eng s-off. You should seriously research this topic due to the fact that messing with this setting is VERY DANGEROUS to the phone if you dont know what your doing, damage can be permanent and is a sure way to brick your phone. Its more for the advanced user and not a novice. All you needed is rooted s-off to do whatever you want to phone and if your trying to flash a radio there are flashable radios without Eng s-off. Head over to the Ace Hack Kit IRC chat and you might find the help you need there.

Exactly as Reinaldo told u. You have messed your bootloader up...you need to fix it. Go to where he directed you. ENG S-OFF is not necessary and very dangerous. Using PD98IMG files is just fine and works great.
Well the only reason I tried the Eng S-Off is because I was told to do so by the maker of Android Revolution in order to be able to flash a certain custom radio he suggest works best with my version 7.0.2
SO I just go into the IRC and explain my issue and they'll hopefully try and help me out?
EDIT: I searched everywhere and can't seem t find the Ace Hack Kit IRC chat you speak of.

I NEVER flash radios no matter what rom I use or what radio it recommends. If I recall radios are dependant on your area. I tried flashing recommended radio from a rom and got completely ****TY service so I went back to my stock. Now I flash no radio no matter what the rom recomends.

Actually, you were not told to ENG S-Off your phone by mike1986 (ARHD dev). All he says is that you need ENG S-Off to flash the radio he has in his thread. 99% don't flash a radio in that way, as the others in this thread have said. Make sure you thoroughly research everthing you plan to do to your phone before you attempt it.
