help i can not find my answer - HTC Inspire 4G

How is it going everyone and sorry but I have another question... last night I started.bubbys one click root program and I'm guessing my gold card was bad because I think the SD card I wad using was not good.. so I got all the way to when the phone reboot into hoot and it started searching for the pd.98zip and it never got past the first search cause u know how on the video it take 3 times to load it the to start the update well my phone never made it past that first search and it just sat there for a looong long time so I took the battery out and put it back in and my phone booted up normally but now it seems like I'm ether have bad service or no service at all so my wife was wanting me to come to bed so I shut everything down till this morning so any advise will be a huge help and thank u. In advanced for any help!

the file on your SDCard must be named properly. it has to be EXACTLY:
PD98IMG.ZIP
if it is not, hboot will never find it. also, make sure its in the ROOT of the sdcard and NOT in a folder....

So does that mean when I'm formatting my SD card in the "volume lable" I need to name it that their? And would stopping were I stopped cause me to loose service? And if so how can I fox it because I may not be able to finish the root process? Could I just down load the gingerbread update from the HTC website to fix it??? Cause I think I may want another week or two to study so I cam do the hack kit because I've read a lot if really good thing about that?
And to the place I made it to last night cause me to get bad service cause I know it is supposed to downgrade my Rom but if it didn't even find the update I wouldn't think it would have worked.... or is my phone getting bad service for another reason besides the root program and to fix it could I just do the gingerbread update?

Anyone? Please lol I need to know if I can just do the HTC gingerbread update or will that not work now?

I believe the one click downgrades for root and then flashes a workable rom. It is possible you may be stuck on the downgrade rom. Go to settings, about phone, software information and see what your baseband version and software/build number is. If you are on the downgrade rom, I would just pickup with the hack kit menu 3 and then manually flash a rom.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using Tapatalk

In I checked it out and it said
2.2.1
Kernel. 2.6.32.21-96a5ff14
Baseband 12.39a.60.19u_26.06.06.30
Software 1.84.502.11
Browser version web kit 3.1
Can I just download HTC gingerbread and try rooting later? Would that be safe to do cause I can't mess with this any more today and my phone said it got service but I can't call or txt half the time so can I just do the HTC gingerbread update?

if you arent concerned with root, or flashing a custom rom, just run the RUU from HTC to do your update. it will get you a working phone

Ok well I am but I believe my gold card I made was bad and when checking for the zip file it never found it? And it seems it may have down graded my Rom cause I only get calls when I have edge... and after restarting my phone my notification bar said SD card broken? Or something like that and said I needed to format. So I did the format and the notification went away.. then I pluged my phone back n2 the computer and it said removable disk f as if I had never dine anything to it? .... And now the last time I tride it on my brothers phone witch had gingerbread so of course i found out that it didn't work for gingerbread but when his phone was pluged into the computer his SD card was recognised as a goldcard on the computer. And now I'm scared and am wanting to do the update on htcs website so my phone will work and I cam try it again in a couple weeks when I figure out what I'm doing wrong..

Yeah. You have a lot of reading to do. Bubby's one click is out of date and should not be used, as suggested in numerous threads....
Sent from my Inspire 4G

Yea I know I do lol so it will be safe to download the HTC gingerbread update even if my phone was downgraded and thank you so much for your help! Sorry if I'm being a pain..

yeah, just install the gingerbread RUU and call it good until you do some more research

Ok yea I did download the ruu update and all is well... Lol I've done a ton off research lol I've read through almost all of both bubbys and the hack lord threads watch bubbys video like 30 times lol and read through countless other info and.forums lol I've got this obsession problem lol so I've done a lot of research but I'm also a worrie wort lol and I realized when my wife got home that her phone just like mine had full servise with all the bars and she wad not able to. Get out either????? So I don't know what's up with that and thee was nothing wrong with my phone so it hadn't downgraded thee Rom or anything. BUT... Lol ima do a little more research on the ace hack kit and use that because I had read that that method was less problematic the bubbys method but I felt more cunfy with bubbys cause that method sooo ima read more on Tue hack kit and thanks for the help today and have a good one.. ohh and if my spelling is all jacked up its cause I'm on .my cell and I hate the spelling auto correct feature lol

I can't believe I actually made it through reading this thread.

bubby's oneclick is only still viable for making the goldcard since (at least imo) its the easiest way to do it.
After the goldcard is made you shouldnt be using bubbys guide anymore as it doesnt work for rooting (if on gingerbread).
Use Ace hack kit and you should be fine, but if you are still having trouble i can find you the website i used to root on 2.3.3 before the hack kit was updated to v12 that has step by step instructions with simple non-techie terms (was great for me before i started reading heavily on here)
Last thing, remember to completely remove your antivirus, not just disable! (sorry, had to throw that in there, i just disabled the first time i tried to root and got screwed lol)

Bricked cdma htc hero after ruu 1.56 Semi Solution

Ok, just like all of you I have rooted, experimented to the limits and pushed them well little did i Know is that you cant reflash the 1.56 ruu so needless to say I ended up with a brick but luckily for us it will still connect in fastboot
so this is a solution to at least get it up and running
Pros-
Reactivate your phone since it will be formated
All functions will work
can still root, install .apk's use wifi etc
camera etc
so the pros are it will operate just like nothing ever happened now to the con's
YOU WILL HAVE TO DO THIS EVERYTIME YOU TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE
Ok here is how to fix it
Connect your phone to your PC
open command and navigate to your android tools folder
type in
fastboot devices
make sure it detects your device
should show the HTC logo on your phone
now simply type
fastboot oem boot
wait a couple minutes while your phone reboots
viola you phone is back to running again...just dont turn it off LOL
can you launch the RUU again and (hopfully) have it restore your phone correctly?
You can launch but it will still fail like before, I havent been successful in finding a full solution as of yet

hmmmm interesting man. honestly you should be able to rebuild all the / partitions. such as /misc and /radio. we need some linux junkies in this thread to tell us how to rebuild failed / partitions
This is amazing. Sure did work for me. I just wish there was a way to get it flash the original radio. I have only had this thing two weeks and would love to take it back and exchange it, but I am just paranoid since it shows radio 2.41.04.02.03.
wait, what exactly did you do to get your near-bricked phone?
you used the 1.56 RUU on your phone that had a 2.xxxxxx radio?
have you tried both of the RUU's? the original and 1.56?
My phone was the Sprint Hero *with Google model, so I had rooted it and loaded a custom rom on it etc and was playing around with it but I wanted to go back to stock so i flashed this ruu
RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.56.651.2_signed_release
And BAM at the end error 110
wouldnt boot anylonger
spent all day on figuring out this solution
did you try the 1.29 RUU?
yeah i tried every sprint hero ruu i promise you i left no stone unturned trying to fix this
BRILLIANT!
I can't tell you how impressed I am that somebody has found what i now consider to be the first step towards getting the RUU 110 error solved.
I still feel that the issue comes down to the lack of ADB that seems to happen once you get 110... maybe a driver issue on the phone vs. driver issue on the computer? after all the RUU starts failing on all the ADB commands when you check out the RUU logs...
sorry i can't help take it from there, i returned my phone to sprint inside of the 30-day window and just told them something i installed form the market "bricked" my phone...
I eagerly await your results though for a final step towards solution, as I am dreading the day i have to RUU my phone for whatever reason that may be, although I've been running a personally customized Pancake ROM for almost a week and totally happy with it so won't be doing anything until 2.1 is official...

Same exact thing for myself. Multiple people said the way to go back to the stock radio was to use the RUU. I tried both RUU's and same results. Now I am just trying to decide what is better.
Live with this and hope for a better option to come or take back a "bricked" hero that shows Radio 2.41.04.02.03 and hope I don't end up getting charged later.
IMHO I think the best thing for you guys to do is wait for our 2.1 update, which will more than likely have a smiliar radio update. Then you can just say the update bricked the phone.
If we get the same radio version, then just take it back, if we get a different version then maybe we can find a file to edit the number to make it say what ever version you want it to say, something like editing Build.prop. Then Sprint has nothing to ask questions about. Should be out in a few weeks if the rumors are right. Maybe you can deal with this soultion until then.
As far as the don't turn your phone off issue, mines been up for 13 days. I hate turning it off, partially because of the missed emails and partially because I worry that it won't come back up.
Subscribing. When Sprint releases the official 2.1 in a few weeks, I was planning on using the 1.56 RUU and then doing the 2.1 update. Apparently this isn't going to be possible since I did the Radio update. What is going to be the proper way to get the 2.1 update through Spring for phones with the Radio update to keep from bricking a phone?

There's been plenty of people who have flashed back and forth between the radio versions, using the RUU programs...there's only been a few that have bricked from what I've read.
It's still a bit iffy on whether or not it's actually safe to go between the two, but it shouldn't matter since the new radio versions apparently work just fine with all ROM's that I've seen

True, and if we elect to continue to use either a Fresh or Damageless version of an official 2.1 Sprint ROM, then we should be ok. But if we wanted to go to the Sprint ROM, there are going to be a lot of bricked phones if there isn't a way to understand what is going on when a 1.56 RUU is used over a phone with the 2.x Radio update.
Just wanted to pass along some more information in case anyone else is having this problem. I had reactivated an old phone temporarily since this one was bricked. This morning I reactivated my hero due to this semi fix and immediately I could call and textimg was fine, but i kept getting vision error 67 for data. Sprint reset my data about three times and it never worked. I tried updating my profile multiple times and it never worked. Finally I Ran the RUU again and sure enough after a reboot or an "oem boot" I had error 67again. I went ahead and updated my profile and this time it worked and data started working. Still hoping someing else comes along though.
well I think the issue here might be that it does not have the recovery backup on it after you do an RUU. I could be wrong but who knows? I would say install flashrec-1.1.3-20091107-2.apk on your phone once you are able to get it up and running then flash the recovery backup and restart. That could possibly fix the issue? I have the files if anyone needs them, I'm not sure how to upload them on here...
~Danny
I'm not sure if it's possible boot into recovery console using this method, but if you can, has anyone tried manually flashing the old radio in the same manner they flashed the new one to revert back and then RUU. Perhaps that may do the trick.
My phone isn't bricked so I can't try it out, but seems like it might be worth a shot in theory.

Help me with my wife's paperweight.

Ok So I have an issue with my wife's inspire. I never bothered to root/rom it because she isn't techy like me. Lately though she's noticed mines so much faster... Naturally she wanted me to "do that nerd stuff" to hers too.
Unfortunately a lot has changed since I ran mine (like 9versions of Ace hack kit). Ace Hack kit wouldn't progress into step 2 (i press 2 and enter over...and over.. with no result) so I ran the one click. Unfortunately when it got to the 2nd PD98IMG it failed on System with a "FAIL-UZ" error. Now it will not boot, I CAN get it to HBOOT but no matter what SD card I use (I tried the one out of mine) when I try to load any other PD98IMG it consistently said "FAIL-UZ"
OK well for some reason I just got it to work again... NEVER mind my issue. I don't know what caused the issue, but I solved it by copying the PD98 onto my phone's SD card, put the SD card in wife's phone, and ran HBOOT again. it ran fine!
*EDIT*... ok so not quite fine. the PD98IMG file installed properly, but now i'm stuck on the white HTC screen...nothing doing past that... any help?
Bet she's pissed that she doesn't have a phone

I am assuming you made the Gold Card and are using that card to root?
Other than that are you making sure to clear Delvik and wipe first?
Pull up the root thread and follow the Utoob vid. It is step by step awesome.
One click just down graded my phone. Would not go any further after that.
The hack kit was used to finally enable how I have in my signature after the one click failed.
Hopefully you can figure out how to get it going again because you might end up sleeping on the couch mate. Hahaha

Seems to me you still need to push the downgraded Rom and radio, you can do it through hboot. If you get the white HTC screen then you need to try it again. After you do that it should boot up with no sound. Then you can try running the hack kit. After the downgrade step. If your looking for a earlier version of the hack kit there is one in the guide that is sticking at the top of this section.

i got a question does ur wifes phone still have manufactures warrenty? not to worry about the root or s-off AT&T at this point does not have a policy against rooting just dont tell them.. HTC just flashes the device after they validate the LDI and Phisical dam....I have returned many rooted phones with know worry
there's some instuction on how to get away from the white screen o' death, but i don't know everything worked for me.
sorry about it! i know how stressful that can be! i hope you make it thru!
i have heard some say if you can hboot you can make it so.. stick with it
go with the hack kit next time .. it will work
Have you tried pulling out the battery and then putting it back in, then trying again. Also reformat her sd card.

I world format her SD card in ur phone. Pop it back in hers and start the hack kit process over again. The new kit is super easy it you read the help file a few times and really follow it. I beloved you will have to boot into hboot and factory reset you phone and go from there. Also check out the irc channel I bet a few guys in there might have some ideas aswell.

[Q] Help please, I think I messed up big time...

So I was trying to root last night, and now I get n extreamy long boot up time, seriously it vibrates on white htc page for a full 2 minutes prior to it saying "HTC Quietly Brilliant" (vibrate happens in white HTC screen) then it will boot up to normal os. stuck on military time, and Super User with Visionary shows up in app list but not actually rooted. How can I fix this, and restore to box settings? I had no problems when rooting my captivate, so I figured I could do this one. I had to downgrade, so used JSL's method on driphter .com to downgrade, and started using Bubby's rooting. Bubby's still wouldn't work, so completed the rooting process with the one I just listed.
flash RUU then re root

I am still trying to figure things out without bricking my phone, which i understand is actually hard to do.. lol

Most of us sleep sometime or another (I'm not sure about attn1).
Anyway, you've got the wrong hack kit. Popular demand forced ATTN1 to include the ENG hboot, but it was soon determined that the latest Inspires off the line were having problems with the ENG hboot so it was scrapped after a day or so. If you are still trying to D/L a link to the old one, then it will certainly fail. Get the latest here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
You WILL need to change your hboot. Reinstalling the RUU will do that, then you can root again with the latest.
As far as the IRC channel, best bet is during working hours US time (like 8am to 8pm PST or so).

Sorry, I didn't realize you all stayed logged in even when asleep. Sorry about that.
The link you provided is the same one I got my hack kit from. :/ oh boy..
Edit: irrelevant.

[Q] Returning to stock from Gingerbread-shipped Inspire 4G

Long ago, when I bought my Inspire 4G, my intent was to root it and install custom ROMs. With the old process using CMD to create a Gold Card, I also somehow created a file called "PD98IMG.zip". What I have learned is that, when on the SD card, when I place my phone into HBOOT, it will return to whatever that zip is, which is my stock rom. I'm not sure how I acquired it, but whatever.
Just in the last month or so, I dropped my phone in a toilet (don't ask), and I got it replaced with a new Inspire 4G. I was lucky that I had the water damage warranty. I went to go and root it like two days after I got it, only to discover that the old process didn't exist anymore, and wouldn't have worked with my Gingerbread-shipped Inspire 4G anyways. So I went off and used the Ace Hack Kit (worked flawlessly) and have been enjoying my time with the recently uploaded ICS ROM.
But when it comes to to get my phone replaced again (water damage, stolen, dropped, broken camera, broken volume or lock keys, etc.), will the "PD98IMG.zip" I had before work on my new device to put it back to stock? Or will this new device not accept a ROM from an older phone? And if so, what are my options for returning to the stock ROM using HBOOT?
Also, while I'm on HBOOT, does the said program worked on bricked devices? I would imagine you could access it anytime with the normal volume down+lock button, right, regardless of whether or not the device is bricked?
Thanks for reading this entire thing, I just like being really specific!
Jake Root
Haven't tried yet as I don't have reason too...but for educational purposes watch this to give you an exact idea of what said program is capable of...and always make sure using the latest version.

Most likely the older PD98IMG is for the froyo OS. I know they changed something in the Inspires after august and it may not work correctly with your newer made phone. Also just running that file will not give you s-on anyways. So just forget it.
Just use the Advanced Ace Hack Kit. It can download the appropriate ROM and return your phone back to s-on. It is all you will need.
I appreciate the responses guys. Agoattamer, do you know if, running the Ace Hack Kit, there is a menu option in the hack-ace.cmd for returning to stock Android Gingerbread? I was reading the effin' manual, but because I am kind of a n00b, I only sort of understood it. I read the following:
Flash Gingerbread Update
Flash AT&T RUU 2.47.502.7_26.10.04.03_M
I have no idea what that means. Is this a menu option in the cmd?
Thanks again, I really don't want to screw anything up.
Cheers,
Jake
P.s. What is RUU? I keep seeing it but I'm not sure of its meaning.
Yes the hack kit has a menu for returning to stock. Ruu stands for rom update utility. Its essentially the program used to flash a stock image(where the pd98img comes from)
Check out the video see how the menu options look like.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
If you read the first post of the Advanced Ace Hack Kit thread (yes you have to read the first post and the effen manual) you will even see pics of the menu mentioned. We can't stress enough here on XDA, especially if you are new. Read, Read, Read.
So if I ever need s-on and return to stock I can just use the ace hack kit? Will it be just like the rooting process where it just does it for you? Sorry kinda new

This is also a way to return to stock using a pd98img. Different method, same end result

Just select gb version.

Once again guys, I really appreciate your responses...a bit overwhelming, but every question I had was answered, so thanks!
Agoattamer, you are correct. I didn't look at that video close enough. I think I began watching it, and I thought it was something else, so I stopped and went on my way. Fatal mistake on my part.

[Q] Need to flash my phone back prior to the recent ota (1.63... doubleshot)

I am trying to attempt messing with this type of thing for the first time so noob handling will be required. My reason is simply my phone is a nice wallpaper display three days after the ota from tmobile 1.63.531.2 710rd.
I began by trying to follow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1505999
To no avail. Of course I noticed afterwards that for some reason it says to turn s-on in the header... exactly the opposite what what I need to flash the phone back to (PG59IMG_Doubleshot_TMOUS_1.28.531.9_Radio_10.48.9007.00U_10.12.9007.07_M2_release_201815_signed.zip) I have had problems with the phone ever since its first ota a year or so ago. With this latest ota the phone is more or less bricked as of the phone using power saver when I went to sleep last night... Wont call or check into the network...no dial tone. Took me 3-4 restarts for it to even show the antenna symbol and the 4g icon in the taskbar.
My phone is set as S-on for now. The only instructions I have found through the search tool relay how to do it to the sensation... I believe that is the mytouch 4g not slide. However I have the slide which is doubleshot. So my question is, is this instruction on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 safe to use with the doubleshot since the (T-Mobile branded HTC myTouch 4g Slide ( doubleshot ) Developers Reference) page links to it indirectly. Using the link at the top of the how to S-on after s-off... again the opposite of what I need so I tried following the link at the top of that page " Guide to Installing S-off, Unlocking, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on " which takes you to the s-off instruction page for the sensation (Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 )...I am guessing that it will work and sensation refers to HTC sense, but I don't care to make the mistake of doing it wrong and bricking my phone due to being derp.
I know there is a bit of overdone explanation and redundancy in the addresses I have left here. I am just trying to cover all my bases thanks for the help in advance.
The short and sweet is I need a link by link list with instructions on how to step my phone back for multiple reasons. First the recent OTA more or less broke my phone and I don't want a refurb phone with inferior parts from Assurion...(They were in class action lawsuits for this in the past.) nor do I want to pay 130$ for said replacement. Next from what I just read the 1.63 update has some serious security compromises that are awaiting response from HTC for an update. Basically it gives full accesses to all your data to include your sim and SD card contents to all apps. Regardless of user specified/agreed permissions.
Following ANY routine or procedure for another phone is just too dangerous & will never work anyway. The bad part being you may very well create a brick in the process. If you have the MT4G SLIDE, this is where you will get all that you need so don't even consider other threads.
Since you've done the OTA & are sitting at Hboot 1.63.XXX now you will HAVE to get S-Off before you can go back to your previous Hboot. To DO that you will have to follow the instructions HERE.
If all you are wanting to do is start flashing ROMs, then the instructions you need are HERE.
Keep us informed & we'll try to help if you need it. Good Luck!

Thanks for the hasty post reply any other suggestions...I have win7ult 64bit. Or will will juopunutbutter work even though they have the below disclaimer?
"Supported Operating Systems:
We only support Windows 7 32bit or Ubuntu 12.04 (and newer) 32bit, you may use a LiveCD if you have the wrong OS installed natively. Win XP 32bit might work for you but we do not support it as we did not test on it."
Also, this, "Be on the Stock RUU and be rooted (have superuser flashed). No other ROMs are supported, Fresh ROM will not work regardless of what you have read elsewhere."
-I am not rooted. Which is something else I want to accomplish so I can set up firewalls that block certain things.
Oh btw provided I can get this phone working again I am also going to attempt to reflash my older mytouch 3g... back to original as well that thing worked better than any of the current phones for my purposes before it got the update prior to the 2.2.1... the original update didn't work with adobe which is fine with me, people need to move on from adobe's garbage anyway. Specifically with the old mytough 3g though that really did add functionality at the sacrifice of sanity since it slowed the phone down so much. On that note though I may just put on a custom if I can get comfortable with this stuff. The last time I looked at a pc this hard was back in win98se when you had to know how to do tricks to make it faster like modifying available rame to twice as much above and below physical ram and a few other tweeks I have long forgotten.
That brings me to another question. If I go custom rom and unlocked this looming threat of brick is weighing in on me. If a phone is bricked is it possible to recover using some of the same tools that bricked it in the first place... flash install original rom as a fix? Just trying to see how much margin of error I have to work with.
Thanks again.
PS who do we talk to about backing off all the java on the site since it is so compromised right now? This sight has more java permissions than most sights of ill reput... though I have been reading these forums off and on for a while so I trust it more than most with this much tracking. I doubt patch 11 actually fixed the issue...since the day before they said it would take two years or more to actually resolve the java zero day exploit.
You should be fine with your pc, I used a 64bit win7 too. If you're worried dual boot linux.
Your my touch 3g is rooted diferentley, go to that forum for details, its not true radio soff but its close enough.
If you brick it its dead, depending how it was bricked jtag could bring it back to life or this phone is part of the unbricking project which will fix some other bricks. Problem is people use brick as a term that means a whole lot of things so its hard to answer. Usually a brick is forever dead, most people don't actually brick their phone though and usually have to be neglecting things to do it.
As for java... just read up on a bunch of trustworthy places for more info and understanding

I'm afraid I just don't know about Win 7 64bit and how it will react but I'm sure there has to be a person or two around with experience concerning that OS. It may very well work fine. I CAN tell you that the "wire trick" (junoptobear?) will work fine on MikTouch because that's what I used. It's a stripped down GB stock ROM which is all you're really looking for. Why....I don't know.
As far as bricking goes, there's not a GREAT deal to worry about as long as you follow all instructions to a tee. You REALLY don't have to even have S-Off to flash ROMs as you read in that link. You just need to flash the kernel after you flash the ROM. It WILL limit a few things you can do but not ROM flashing.
When it comes to rescueing a bricked device though, there are only a very few instances that can be done as far as I know. But I'm no developer either. But if you can make it to your bootloader and/or recovery you not bricked. It may be a hardware of software issue but most of the time you can come back from those.
As far as the Java issue you spoke of goes, you may be able to get an answer to that one by PM'ing one of our moderators or admins.
I want to step it back to previous versions because they worked better...primarily the first version... Also, I am not seeing a guide that refers to doing it to the 1.63 patch. keyboard hasn't swyped right since the first ota update. Also my intent is to root an older version so I can remove crapware like dt sync, friend stream, kidzone, tmobile mall, tmobile tv, tmobile setup, telenav gps, and zinio reader.

It's a simple flashing process but you HAVE to achieve S-Off first with the "Wire Trick". You can flash it forward without S-Off but not backwards. Does it work at all or is it just frozen to some point in the boot process? Can you access your SDcard? Can you boot to Hboot & recovery? These are a couple of things you will have to be able to do to go forward if I understand you correctly.
