Hello.
I currently have an X2 that I am moving away from. I do not want to upgrade my contact at this time, so I will be turning to 3rd party vendors to purchse a different phone.
The HTC Thunderbolt has my attention, however I recall this phone being plagued with problems since launch.
Now that we are 6 months removed, how has this phone faired? Have all the bugs/kinks been worked out?
My wife has an Incredible 2 and I always say I wish I had went with HTC over my Droid x2.
Please share your thoughts on the current state of the Thunderbolt!
It is awful. If you buy it you will probably cry your self to sleep every night.
But if you really want one you can bet the market will be flooded with them as soon as the trinity of phones is released (the Galaxy Nexus, the HTC Rezound, the Moto Droid Razor)
I know I will be returning mine to Best Buy since I future proofed it when I bought it from there.
Just my opinion though.

its not TERRIBLE..
but there are certainly better phones out there.
primary problem is the battery life.but if you are always near a charger, this is a non-issue.
i, for one, can't wait to get rid of my tbolt when the nexus is released.
Plagued with problems? The only problem I've ever have is the battery life but its to be expected with 4G LTE. Its a very solid phone all around
Being my city isn't mapped for 4G LTE till 2013, does this make a difference in terms of battery life, or does the phone still use the same juice with a 3g signal?

Will make a significant difference in battery life running 3g, uses far less juice running 3g.
I'm actually on the newest unrooted ruu, and there are honestly no problems. Phone rubs fast as ever, always get signal, battery life is even better.

I would suggest waiting until the beginning of November. 3 new phones are scheduled for the 10th & aroind that time people with Thunderbolts, Bionics, etc will try to get rid of them to move up & you'll be able to price haggle with them good.
Good advice - I will wait till then!
The TBOLT is not a bad phone at all, but I would wait and check some of the new ones coming out.
But honestly I do not understand why so many people down the tbolt, mine has been a super solid and great phone and I have no need or desire for anything else right now.
With extended battery, I have no issues at all. Fast, reliable and solid.

not to mention the Tbolt is indestructible(so long as the screen doesn't get hit). i got pissed one night while i was driving and threw it out the window. i stopped and went back to get it and it had some scratches on it but was still working perfectly.
although if it's anything like the HD2, don't let even the slightest drop of water anywhere near it.
The phone itself is a hell of a lot better than a good deal of what HTC has put out before. The software has been the only real problem and that's been almost completely worked out. I'm not sure there's any outstanding issues with functionality and reliability. An extra power-sucking core that's identical to the one in the Tbolt doesn't turn me on enough to be tempted to upgrade. I don't know anyone who's disappointed with it.
Personally I love my bolt and I'm not super worried about the uh "trinity" lol. The bionic was supposed to be this amazing phone but I saw one and frankly I would rather have my old bolt.
My name is Revos I'm a recovering flashaholic running Liquid Gingerbread 3.0
Ignore the Naysayers... It's a great phone. Rooted.. Mine is smooth as butter. Battery is not an issue of you plan right. I put my stock battery back in (with extended to fall back on). Lte is stinkin awesome. The screen (when not in direct sun) is perfectly acceptable.
Unrooted? Well, I can't tell you.. It's been too long. I rooted because I was tired of waiting for GB and the bloatware.

I am on 3g only. Don't even have my 4g radio on. With a Sense rom I get about 6 hours of medium use.
Milage may differ. I guess you should consider my opinion as biased bc I don't like Sense at all. Why did I buy HTC? I don't know?!

If I had an upgrade coming up I'd seriously consider the tbolt. 4g phone for $100 & a extended battery, sign me up. Seems that all the bugs are finally worked out & with GB finally close, it's a good deal.
This coming from a guy that had 3 bolts in 5 months. For what it can do & the price, its almost too good to pass up.

It's an amazing phone for the price. I'm running a BAMF GB sense 3.0 ROM and I spend most of the day checking on the forums or messaging my girlfriend, although a lot is on WiFi. On BAMF Forever I pull 30 hours on extended battery. And that's not with anything disabled that I use. I won't handicap a feature just for battery life.
It's insanely durable hardware wise as someone mentioned. And the developer support for it is rest good. It's a very nice time to purchase the Thunderbolt as well as a lot of people are getting ready to sell to go to the new rezound, formerly called Vigor, because it was hyped early on as the Thunderbolt 2.

X2- just root it and customize to your liking. New to the Bolt, but only issue I have is battery life. But from all I hear, common issue with 4g devices. Got Verizon to throw in extended battery with purchase, just haven't installed yet, looking into "slim" extended battery.

Well last night I pulled the plug and decided after much consideration on what phone I wanted and bought the MyTouch 4G, now the days of wait till I get it are going to be painful.
My choices were a G2, MyTouch 4G, Vibrant. I was actually going to buy the vibrant before the MyTouch4g was released but glad I didn't.
I really don't use my phone for watching videos at all so I don't care about the Vibrant having the better screen. The G2 was the closer pick of the two but I don't like physical keyboards and I have been using stock Android OS's for a while now and want to try a Sense UI Android so that's why I got the MyTouch4g. Plus the front face camera, wifi calling, video chatting without wifi, along with the better specs.
First thing I plan to do when I get it is install ADW Launcher and thats it.
I will wait till the phone has been successfully rooted and is able to be installed with stock 2.2 Froyo. I can't wait to see how the phone works with a a stock OS... it should be BLAZING fast. I see the MyTouch4g selling more phones than the G2 so I expect rooting and rom support for it coming very soon. The G2 was just rooted so the 4G isn't far behind.

had the vibrant for 3 months, g2 for 14 days, now have the mytouch...love everything but the battery life but that may just be a problem with mine

Do you have wireless, gps and bluetooth enabled? Only enable them when needed. Also on the power bar widget lower your screen brightness to the middle one.

Judging from his phones, I don't think disabling settings will solve his problem, I am sure he is using the same set up on all of them. I too am getting less battery than the other two.

Have you put on the battery save mode?
I have a vibrant, and my MT4G is smashing the vibrant in terms of battery life. I Charged up the vibrant and left it sitting, screen off nothing running and it died before the MT4G that I was using all day. I guess my vibrant has some serious issues.
Wanted to tell you guys that the 2nd Gen snapdragon is much faster then the Scorpion cpu in the G2..But Sense slows the phone down a lot, with stock the 4G would have much higher scores.
Pardonme if this is too simplistic a recommendation, but have you tried conditioning the battery?

I mean who cares. Good for you.
Just ordered my Inspire 4G. I'm coming from the Captivate. I can't wait for a functioning GPS.
I was going to wait until the Infuse came out until I saw today that DG / Design Gears ditched the Atrix and picked up the Inspire. Can't wait to see what he can do with it. I ran both Cog and Perception on my Captivate. However I'm currently running Serendipity.
Now to pick a custom Inspire ROM to go with...
You won't need it~
Unless if you're into MIUI, stock works just fine! If you're itching for the extra features, Android Development has a bunch of reoriented stock with better speeds.
Cheers on your new Inspire!
a fellow UK fan...nice to see! Do you go to UK??
and that is awesome news about DG coming to the Inspire. I felt like Captivate section really slowed down when he left. He did some big things for the Atrix, so i definitely can't wait to see what he brings to the table for the Inspire.

I agree. Once DG focused on the Atrix, the Captivate forums slowed down. He's got a ROM already in the works for the Inspire that's being beta tested.

thats awesome...can't wait to try it out. Its weird because with my captivate, i started out with DG's roms, then moved to Adam's roms, and ended up sticking with dill1's roms towards the end.
But, i assure you, coming from the captivate you will be VERY pleasantly surprised with how amazing this phone is out of the box. I thought it was going to be a little sluggish when i was setting it up, but once i used it for awhile and things fell into place, it has been amazing. the Sense UI is downright amazing, and i can finally see what all the hype is about.
I'm still trying to talk myself in to swapping my cappy out but I can't do it. Its been 5 days since my wife got her inspire and the complaints I have so far are the speakerphone stinks so much static on both ends and the volume is quite low on full blast. No swype. My cheek hangs up the phone alot. For some reason the screen turns on midcall and my cheek touches the call button?? When we aren't hanging up on people its constantly dropping calls. No 4g coverage. Its heavy. the battery life is less than desirable and that damn battery cover has taken 2 years off my life. It only has 8gb out of the box,ill have that filled in 10 minutes.as far as gps it does perform ok not great, but it will never outperform my tom tom. I think ill wait for the infuse 4g to arrive and see if that is enough for me to upgrade. My wife is fairly happy with it so its up to her if she wants to keep it so I guess my feelings on it are meaningless!

sounds like a bad unit. I am experiencing none of those issues.
Yeah I don't have that many problems with my phone either. There are audio fixes in the development section that can fix the speaker issue. Other than that, after I switched to TCPs rom, my battery would last me more than a day oppose to 3/4 of a day.

The low volume issue is related to some kind of adaptive program. If you notice, the sound will be low in the very beginning, then it will increase to a louder state. I haven't discovered the settings for it yet, though. Tried checking/unchecking the pocket mode and quiet ring on pickup but didn't make any difference.
The battery door is super tight on mine also. But I don't mind it, myself. It feels very secure. I've decided to just get a dock to conveniently charge it instead of changing out batteries...lol
The 8GB card is a class 4 instead of a crappy class 2. That is a plus in my book. But I still have a 16GB ordered.

I was going to create my own epic bread, but seeing as how this was already on the front page I figured I'd jump in as well.
JUST ORDERED MY HTC INSPIRE 4G. To put things in perspective, I'm currently using a Samsung Mythic (Nubbins-ville USA) and this is my first true experience with Android.
I've been scouring, researching into Android for at least a year now and have finally made the jump. Much like other people on this forum, I definitely struggled with the decision between the Atrix and Inspire. To be honest, when the Atrix was first promoted I was sold on the spot. After release and all the horror stories, I guess I could say that I was swayed I bit.
Either way, I'll definitely be posting around these boards a lot more. Can't wait!
Seriously, who's in charge of the stock theming for our Charges? Who's decision was it to release a good phone on the market with a POOP BROWN COLOR SCHEME?! They should be fired!
And why does the battery life SUCK on this phone?! Why is it that we have to painstakingly calibrate the battery ourselves just to squeeze a days worth out of it? Samsung, I know you're trying to keep the costs down, but would it kill you to put a Li-Po battery in here or something?
Why does my 4G randomly drop to 3G, and then to 1X? Granted, somehow I've been seeing a lot less of this lately, but why did you let it happen in the first place?! Come on, that didn't happen to you ONCE during beta testing, Sammy?
Who's the joker who put so little ram into this phone? I bet when they designed it they were like "oh, this is going to screw so many people lol..."
And while I'm at it, I hate noobs. They don't even ATTEMPT to either look through the stickies or use the search.
Other than that, I am truly happy with this phone. I made the right decision when I upgraded.
I feel better after that rant; Feel free to vent some steam about your Charge in this thread; you therapist called, and he wants you to.

1. Totally agree
2. meh, YMMV, maybe it is because I am coming from the fasicinate (I carried 2 extra batteries around to make it through 12 hours but I love the battery life on this puppy
3. I have rock solid 4G, very rarely does it go to 3G here in town. During testing I am sure they have their own tower they are sitting next to,
I love this phone but I too cannot stand the brown/orange theme. Is there any way to change it?
Regarding all android smartphones:
1. What happened to having dedicated Dial and End keys on our *phones*? I'd use that a lot more than a search key.
2. Why can't we get good voice control that just works! My old flip phone did this better.
3. How hard would it be to make data connections work on demand? Take it a step further than juice defender (which doesn't work on our phone anyway). Let us control what apps access the network and when. In the meantime, stop waisting precious battery life keeping data connected "just in case".
4. Build in working app + data backup already. The average user shouldn't have to worry about rooting just for this. Plus they wouldn't lose angry birds progress every time a verizon rep asks them to factory reset. ;-)

OK, I'll join the rant....The dogs**t brown theme and the battery life are both items I can deal with. I just squint and buy extra batteries but the fact that my data connection is so dodgy drives me crazy! I am constantly getting "network error" msgs or just suddenly from solid 4G to absolutely no data without moving, watching everyone around me breezing along on the web. The fact that I can find myself in the center of Los Angeles and have no 4G, no 3G, no 1x, no data period is so pitiful.
Okay, I feel a little better.....
bn
No issues with any of that. Gummycharged GBE FTW!
(Ok, I do miss a notification LED)
Where the ****s the notification LED, they couldn't even put it on the dam galaxy S2! Let's hope the U.S. versions get it right.
I'll admit, the colors on TW3 suck some ween(well, TW3 in general sucks some ween) but apparently the brighter colors consume more battery because of the SA+ screen.
Battery life is alright.... IF YOU CALIBRATE & UNDERCLOCK. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THAT! Still better then the 4 hour battery life on my enV Touch, and that wasn't even a smartphone.
FROYO? REALLY? FROYO? COME ON, IT'S A DAM $300 PHONE.
I DONT LIKE THE PUZZLE UNLOCK SCREEN. It doesn't show the battery % and I can't switch to silent from the same screen like AOSP, and why the hell does it need to say Verizon Wireless ON THE DAM LOCK SCREEN!? I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FLASH SO MUCH **** JUST TO MAKE THIS PHONE GOOD.
Come on 4g, what the hell. I'm in a full 5 bar area and it still feels the need to drop to 3g. It's always happening when I'm browsing the web too, not when the phone is sleeping where 4g data wouldn't be necessary but when I'm ACTUALLY USING THE PHONE. 4G IS ****ING WITH ME.
and finally..... WHERE THE **** IS TW4. If this phone releases GB + TW4 + source then this phone will be ABSOLUTELY ****IN' FANTASTIC. It's funny, even with all the flaws this phone is still awesome. It would have been perfect if they just added/fixed the above things from the start. You're right, it does feel good to vent.

Exactly my point, we "the devs" should not be working hard to make this a fast phone or better/smoother it should already be that way out of the box or with upgrades after paying premium for this phone. Remember it's not 199 like all other phones, it is 299 one hundred more than the rest of all other phones from any carriers out there. That is really upsetting. I had the droid inc 2 (199 with 50 mail in rebate, so really 150)for one week before I got the charge and it was a great little phone with the best battery life i have ever had plus it had been upgraded to gingerbread already (thinking about switching back to it). The Droid X, X2, droid 3, are all 199 and running the latest, but we paid 299 for lte and samoled screen but got stuck with froyo. That is really upsetting. I always read how samsung was really bad with updates but I thought this was one of their flagship phones so maybe it would get the upgrades but guess I was wrong, I'm sure it will come but way after everyone else.
ps: im not a dev just to clear up my first sentence, we as in customer
No issues with my phone after rooting and flashing what I want. Today I was losing only 2% battery per hour! I made 2 phone calls and texted a bunch. They do need to get us to GB quick and I wish it was a dual core phone. I'll be getting the Nexus 3 as soon as that comes out and this will be on eBay.

The (large) majority of smartphone users use their phones more for messaging and web usage than for voice calls. You're in a shrinking minority and it's simply in companies' best interests to cater to the majority of their users.
Its hard for me to relate here. I bought this phone because it is currently the easiest 4G LTE phone to customize. I never planned on keeping stock TW, and will never put it back on my phone, unless I sell it.
I could care less what samsung is doing, because we have plenty of great developers, that are doing way better.
I recommend anyone that hates the stock samsung experience flash a custom rom. You'll be a lot happier with this phone.

We all have custom roms here. Yes, our devs are great, but our roms could be so much better if we had source and official support. Yes, this is the current flagship 4G LTE phone, but it lacks common features of lesser phones!

Well the Galaxy S line were samsung's flagship devices last year when they came out and it still took months and months even for official froyo (especially for the Fascinate) so just because the Charge is the latest and greatest from samsung (on verizon anyway) doesn't mean it'll get a ton of support out of the gate unfortunately... I know that 2.2 froyo was a huge improvement over 2.1 eclair so perhaps thats why it took so long, however 2.2 to gingerbread is not a major OS overhaul so hopefully that means we won't have to wait as long for 2.3 GB. I'd give it probably till the end of the year before we have GB and up to date source code.

I see what you are saying but at the same time if what you say here, by the end of the year we should have GB and source, is true then we will still not be up to date because ice cream sandwich will be out and we will still be playing catching up with os. I guess it's all part of sells, just make phones and market well and move on....ahh why did i fall in love with android lol
Well after using my new SR for a full day of work is can say it is better than my old Infuse but not by much. The Bluetooth is really crappie works when it wants to. On the way home in traffic stopped dead in tried to connect to XDA app and although I had 4 bars of signal it would not connect. Not even the browser??? After traveling a few miles I was able to open the XDA app and Internet. We don't have 4G LTE in southern CT. yet but this phone seems worse than my Infuse radio wise. I am running 2.3.5 stock rooted. I have been thinking about putting one of the custom roms here on it but they don't seem like they are really ready for prime time judging by the responses. I assume this is because we need better dumps or something. I know we have been waiting for an official dump from ATT for the Infuse which still has not surfaced and mainly why I got a SR.
I really like this phone even though it is stock it seems much more responsive and faster than the Infuse. I sure hope there is more development for this phone and we can get the issues fixed. Don't know why they cannot make a phone that just works right out of the box like my old BlackBerry, I know there is a heck of a lot more options on these phones and that is why I switched to Android but the basic features of the phone should work right out of the box then if I screw it up flashing fine but if it doesn't work to begin with that just blows. One more thing battery life SUCKS just like my Infuse have to carry two battery's with me everyday to get through the day which is really annoying.

are you using it alot? i can easily get through the day with the big battery it has.. i was actually quite impressed with batt life.. and if youve only had it a day you have to cycle the batt a few times and youll get better life out of it... i havent really seen many issues with my so far..
Had my skyrocket for about 12 hours and I had a i9100 before so I've experienced both galaxys, skyrocket in my opinion is the superior device, not trying to start a debate just letting people know for what I use the phone for it suits me best to roll with this over regular s2
I've rooted my SR and "froze" a few bloatware apps. I only have wifi and 4G radio turned on (no bluetooth or GPS) the whole day and by the time I get home it's still giving me at least 75% battery life. Now if I play Fruit Ninja during lunch and check Facebook frequently, it drops a little bit. I do recharge overnight or else I'd be below 50% the next day.
I have tested the GSII and using the GSII SR now, and can say battery life is better in my case with the SR.
I am thinking of buying my friends inspire off him and wondered how it is?
How is battery life?
What is the best rom? Is sense 3.5 any good? Never had a sense phone.
I noticed with the roms you have to have s-off? What is that and how is it done?
My biggest concern is the sense music player "iPod ish" in behavior?

I really like mine. I mean, it's not some uber powerful phone that rules them all or anything, but it's higher up in the chain.
Code:
How is battery life?
Battery life is pretty decent, but it really depends on the usage. Screen brightness, playing games, how much you text/call, if you have data, gps, and sync on all the time; just regular smartphone stuff.
Code:

There isn't really a "best rom", it's a matter of preference. You can get a stable 2.3.5 rom, such as Android Revolution, or an alpha release of an ICS rom (there are a few, just check the Android Development section.) I really enjoyed the CM7 mod because of the performance and stability; but I had an aosp ICS rom that was just wonderful, but pretty unstable. If you can deal with instability, get an ICS rom for sure.
Sense is really really nice (IMO). But again, it's all preference.
Code:
I noticed with the roms you have to have s-off? What is that and how is it done?
S-off means the phone security is off, and you can flash roms and have root. You get s-off when you root.
NOTE: I'm not a root-master by any means, so I could probably be wrong on that. Please don't take my word for it.

You can get a third party music player. I really like PowerAmp, would recommend that, or WinAmp.
U should go to YouTube and type in inspire review and read comments. I always do that before purchasing a new phone.

Battery Life, 3+ hours with the screen on 100% like watching videos and games, 6 hours
of talk time, about 24 hours of standby time, but thats with a new battery, and taking
steps to improve battery life.
I have only tried a few ROMs, the three I like are:
Android Revolution HD - looks pretty, runs like a stock rom but tweaked
CoreDroid HD - Seams a little more tweaked in some areas, has a lot of good stuff built-in
BlackICE - Good battery life, no extra junk, CyanogenMod based
Like others have said, you are just going to have to try a few ROMs and see what you like,
I will say that with the Sense ROMS I ended up using scrips to remove a lot of stuff in my
effort to save on battery life, thats why I settled on a CyanogenMod based ROM.
Battery Life
This was my first non-Blackberry phone and I was completely disappointed. If I leave my phone at work on my desk, checking a few emails, texts, etc, I will run out of battery by the end of the day. I noticed that Facebook app was sometimes using 15% of the battery life. Deleting that helped. Also when I installed ICS the battery seems to have improved slightly.
Rom
Completely new to Roms but I installed one on here by existz. Google for AOSPX since I can't post links yet.
It's basically as close as you can get to the plain ol' ICS. Since his newest version has been coming out I've had virtually no issues. Was never really a fan of Sense. Some of the HTC stuff is nice, but I've always been a fan of less.
Phone
The phone is heavy. Which kind of gives it a sturdy feel, but it hasn't been in my experience. The added weight means if you drop it, it will hit with some force. I learned the hard way when the screen shattered completely from a 3 foot drop. Haven't had any issues since I got a gel skin for it though.
The inspire was my first android, after being an iPhone owner, I was quite happy to change.
I can't comment from experience but I like this phone a lot. I've also been using existz from and its awesome. Rooting the inspire is super easy.
The battery life isn't great, but I have chargers every where; home, car and work managing the phones resources helps, like turning off wifi, data, by, and GPS when not using them.
I don't think you can go wrong with the inspire for free or for cheap.

The Inspire is a nice phone to have due to its big screen. I've had it for 6 months already and i can't complain I recently rooted my phone to Rcmix3d 4.0 and it works even better
I've had mine for a little less than a year and have had no major issues. I switched from a Blackberry and this is a drastic improvement.
I wouldn't get to hung up on the ROM since it is extremely easy to root and flash a new ROM. I rooted mine a few weeks ago and flashed ICS (Redemption) to it and it works great.
It is easy to find music apps so I wouldn't stress about that either.
Battery life is decent but it does decrease over time. It may be worth investing in a new one if it is really bad.

I have had my inspire for almost a year and a half and its a great phone. I was slightly disappointed with the battery, but I always Cary a charger with me. It is deffanately a rugged phone. My frient bought one and stoped it down a flight of stairs without a case or screen protector and it came through with minor scraches, he also lives his inspire and after having nothing but iPhones he absolutely loves it. Oh, BTW the best Rom I have found is one called Virtuous Affinity, it is a mod of RCMix, and it is more stable. Overall the inspire is a great, reliable phone.

I say get one dude, I have a iphone for regular use and the inspire for work, has not failed me yet. The battery life is excellent atleast for me, I do not use it really heavy so I get good battery life
Get one, it's a very good phone, battery sucks, but it is all together a very sound phone. Rooting it was a snap (did my first root ever, last week, woot woot!) And I got to say that I don't know why I didn't do it sooner! Right now I am running CM7, I have flashed a few other ones, but I have come to find the stability of this ROM is phenomenal, awesome work by the Cyan Mod team! I still have a lot to learn about the full capabilities of root, but if you're looking for a starter Android, this is the way to go.

I like mine. I bought it last July and have been using it since. I shattered the digitizer in Nov but bought a replacement from ebay for about $50. The phone still works great. I have AOSPx on it and it is very smooth.
I got my inspire ladt week..(had an upgrade and 97 cents usd couldn't resist)
I have rooted and flashed a few roms and i cant complain lol

Do it.. I came from a Samsung captivate. My plan wasn't due for an upgrade yet so I managed to get an old new old stock inspire off craigslist.. so totally love this phone. Just root it and play with some roms. I've used cm7 which I wasn't very fond of leedroid which I loved, coredroid which was meh ok, cleatdroid which was good but now I'm using virtouos affinity which I'm really liking..

i love mine. never ever have any problem with it. i love the fact that its highly supported with alot of new roms, so i have a tons of choice to install to the phone: from basic clean GB rom, to ICS with sense, now i can even have my inspire with Samsung Galaxy s3 theme how nice that is. the only thing i wish the phone could have is front camera.
Go for it bro, root it, enjoy the features of rooting
