[Q] S-OFF on HBOOT 1.20

Is there an S-OFF available for HBOOT 1.20? Saw "locked" after flashing 1.20 and S-ONed phone. Finally unlocked using htcdev but nothing I found could help me downgrade HBOOT and do S-OFF again. Do not have SuperCID atm.

Yeah, I am still rooted and can get into recovery and flash ROMs. But I am having issues with signal and I cannot flash anything because 1.20 does not support fastboot commands. I would like to downgrade but cannot. I tried flashing the customized p85img.zip with my CID T-MOB010 and it would just return to menu w/o any messages.

Make sure it's p85img in the file name.
Don't INSERT .zip at the end. It should automatically be a .zip file.

The file is named correctly.

There is a thread here ima try and find it were you can revert back to hboot 1.17.0000

i m facinf d same problm wit my sensation with bootloader unlocked thro htc dev. i m unable 2 flash any radios. Even i m unable to flash any custom firmware also. I need ur help if u found any solution.

either downgrade your hboot to 1.17 or update to ics 3.24 which has hboot 1.27 (unlocked) and you will have advance fastboot commands

Same exact problem here, semi-bricked my phone before I went over to Htcdev.... attempting to flash a p85img for HBOOT 1.17 or any p85img does nothing but parse it. Searched all day today couldn't find a thing to help...Others have suggested just waiting until Revolution comes out with an Unlock for 1.20 but I'm determined to find a solution for us.

I have recently misled myself by getting my phone back from s-off to s-on before installing the stock RUU on my Sensation XE.
However, i have managed to unbrick the phone and i have a custom ROM running on it while there is S-ON right now.
I was running ICS which means i upgraded the HBOOT from 1.18 to 1.23 and revolutionary does not support this HBOOT version yet.
I want to know if there is a possible way of downgrading the HBOOT version to 1.18 or 1.17 with the S-ON because i cant get S-OFF until its downgraded to something revolutionary supports.
OR
Is there a compatible RUU update utility that will flash my device back to stock and restore everything?

Not until:
1. Revolutionary becomes compatible, or;
2. The ICS RUU is officially leaked, therefore becoming a 'proper' HBOOT in a warranty sense

Before upgrading was your phone having 1.52.720.3 as the firmware version??

Ah, so you have to brick the phone first to downgrade it? Seems a bit severe but at least it's a method.
Surely if someone was silly enough to S-ON with a new HBOOT they will more than likely properly brick their phone??

How to get eng S-off

Before everyone jumps all over my a$$ and directs me to a "guide", here's the situation.
I ran the revolutionary S-off tool once before
Somehow I am now "SHIP S-OFF"
Revolutionary S-OFF tool won't run (I think because I'm HBOOT 1.23)
I've searched and searched but I gave up. Does anyone know what to do from here?

Just flash the firmware from one of the two threads in development. Both have options with hboot 1.17 eng s-off I think.

If you intend to run ICS 1.17 is no bueno. You can just flash the 1.17 h boot. It's in the development forum.

Thanks for the help. I'm sure it has been covered many times before.
I don't want to paint myself into a corner, so tell me if this the right order of things:
Flash 1.17 HBOOT
S-off
flash original RUU
Boot up and flash new radio for the ROM I want (Revolution HD)
flash new ROM
Can I cut any of these steps out?
I can't flash firmware until I'm S-off
Cant S-off until I go HBOOT 1.17

I flashed the 1.17 HBOOT and it said I was CID:11111111
After flashing firmware 3.32, it says CID:TMOB010. WTF? Do I have to SuperCID each time?

Are you checking from fastboot with adb or terminal? Terminal will show your original cid. Fastboot shows your actual cid. I only ever had to super cid once and I flash firmwares all the time.

(advice needed) Hboot 2.00.0002, should I downgrade or not ?

I currently have a desires s (S-ON, not-rooted and bootloader unlocked), I am not sure if I should downgrade to hboot 0.98 as S-OFF for this is not available right now and as the title says I want you all to tell me what to do !
I could either keep this hboot and simply unlock the boot loader, root my phone and install a custom recovery to flash roms. But that way I won't be able to S-OFF my device and hence I wouldn't be able to install all custom roms such as virtuous saga which requires S-OFF .
And If I downgrade my device, I am not sure if the kernels,radio, and other things would be that efficient plus I doubt if I would be able to install all roms, like ICS Sense 4 roms
(kinda new to all this so I don't know if I am being a noob, but I seriously need your reply on this)

I can tell you what i did:
I unlocked my bootloader at htcdev right away when i got my desire s, then got superuser access to my phone. It was pretty fun, but I couldn't do EVERYTHING Plus, I lost parts of my warranty.
I really wanted s-off to be able to flash all roms available.
After a month or so, i did a downgrade of the hboot, with this instructions.
It worked flawlessly, although it's an hour of work or so if you're new to android. Terminal/ADB looks weird and complicating at first, but hey, you just need to copy the lines off the tutorial, it works perfect if you do as told
My advice: DON'T unlock at HTCdev (gives yo FULL warranty, even if you flash a custom rom), and just simply follow the downgrade instructions. Then you'll have full access, full warranty and no limitations at all, it's absolutely worth the downrade/s-off!
I'm running ICS now and couldn't be happier with my phone!

First of all thank you for your help on this, even I have had the same thought that its better to downgrade my phone and S-OFF it rather than keeping it S-ON.
Btw I came across anouther doubt which I guess its better to ask here instead of creating a new thread every time, : if I have to use an ruu to downgrade ny device, should my current radio (as seen in bootloader) match the ruu's radio ??

Have changed my Rom twice not touched the radio firmware at all.
If it ain't broke don't fix it, also read on xda somewhere radio firmware is a local thing it may work in your area but not mine

IMO, there is not much need for you to flash radio.. most of the time you won't need to do so..
and HBoot version can be changed if you are S-Off..
but i have to disagree with your statement that if you don't S-Off you are not able to flash all custom roms.. yes, some may fail to boot up, but mostly they will boot up without problem..
I am currently at the same Hboot as you, HTCDev unlocked and i have tried many roms without problem..
the only thing about having S-On for me is that i will always be dependant on my computer to flash ROM.. other than that, there's no problem generally.. Oh, maybe there is one thing, HTC may know that your phone has already been unlocked since you are using their unlocker.. but there are some ways to relock it and restore the "RELOCKED" in bootloader to "LOCKED"..
I am a newbie, and that's why i unlocked it with HTCDev, but if i were to do it all over again, i would have spend few more days to learn how to downgrade the Hboot and S-Off instead.. you can always flash newer Hboot later anyway..
So my advice, don't worry so much about the radio, or the Hboot version (you can tweak that later) at the moment, then downgrade the Hboot and S-Off it..
IMO it's much better than using HTC unlocker..

I have successfully S-Off my DS from HTC Unlock using the method by Skanob, it's pretty straight forward and noob-proof.. (not that you need that now ) and can be used to revert back to stock, S-On, Locked (not Re-locked) if you ever need to repair..
As for Hboot, i have upgraded the Hboot to Eng Hboot 7.00.1002 (the one you mentioned above) so that would be my recommendation, too!

This is what I've gathered from forum trawling...
v0.98.xxxx: the original hboot for 1.x roms
Has the partitions: /system, /cache, /data (all ext3 or ext4)
Fastboot support, supports Revolutionary S-OFF
ENG v0.98.xxxx: engineering version of above
v2.00.2002: the new hboot for 2.x roms (Sense 3.0 etc.)
Has the partitions: /system, /system/lib, /cache, /data (all ext4)
NOT supported by Revolutionary
-> apparently, some Sense 3.0+ roms need this new /system/lib partition to work (stability issues), but I'm not sure which ones though...
->Note Revolutionary is NOT supported, so to S-OFF you need to downgrade using TacoRoot, ZergRush/Misc_versions, XTC clip or some other method.
ENG v2.00.xxxx: engineering version of above
RVL v6.98.1000: hboot that comes after you S-OFF with revolutionary
It is of a higher version number so breaks overflashing functionality, so you CANNOT revert to RUU (for warranty returns etc.)
-> Note: This can be overflashed with v6.98.2000 (OverARX), which then allows you to overflash a stock or engineered hboot.
v7.00.1002[\B]: modified 2.00.2000
NOT ENG BOOTLOADER
But are there any real life benefits of one over the other?

for example I have the Rev v6.98.1000 hboot, so what you mean is that I could have problems while flashing roms (occasionally), and hence I should change my hboot to the engineered one ?

I got really frustrated with being S-ON and found the HBOOT downgrade instructions dubious so I found someone in my area with an XTC CLIP device and S-Offed the bastard , don't care much about warranty at this point however.

No, you should be fine installing most of the ROM's (unless specified otherwise in the OP of the ROM).
However, ENG Hboot is recommended so that if required later you can easily flash new radio's / Hboot.

No, i believe you can't! You will require an ENG Hboot...

[GUIDE] Install official ICS update using GoldCard

Very Strange that by using this method, my device remains S-OFF and UNLOCKED (!!)
And here is the guide:
A- Preparation:
- Download RUU.exe file from htcdev.com. Run it (without connecting your Desire S to the PC), proceed to Next, Next... but do not exit this app. Open folder %TMP%, search for rom.zip file, copy it to another location and rename to PG88IMG.ZIP. Now you can exit RUU app.
- GoldCardTool, download it here.
- An SD card (>1GB recommended)
B- Step-by-step:
- Insert SD card to the phone, format it.
- Connect phone to PC in Disk drive mode, don't forget to enable USB Debugging = ON.
- Run GoldCardTool.exe, press Get CID button to get CID.
- Go to http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard and enter CID, press Download Goldcard to get goldcard.img file.
- Get back to GoldCardTool.exe, press Load Goldcard.img to load the file goldcard.img.
- Press Patch MMC, your SD card is now ready for goldcard.
- Copy PG88IMG.ZIP file to SD card.
- Shutdown phone and boot it into bootloader.
- Phone will start update process automatically. Don't touch it unless you see "Press Power to restart".
After this step, mine is S-OFF and UNLOCKED. So I can flash custom recovery and root easily.

Leaving you device S-OFF and unlocked after RUU has nothing to do with Goldcard.
It happaned probably because you have Alpharev hboot. RUU is bypassing flashing the hboot because Alpharev hboot has bigger version, but it flashes the rest of the RUU.
It happened to one of my friends also and we didn't use Goldcard.

It means ICS update by using Goldcard is a good way to keep the hboot unchanged.

This is not true, unless you have XTC-clip S-OFFed device.
My old Desire was S-ON when I bought it. I made it S-OFF using Alpharev's tool and every time I flashed any RUU (with Goldcard) it made it S-ON again.
My current Desire S is S-OFF with XTC-clip which means permanent S-OFF, now even after RUU I am still S-OFF, but with newer hboot.
When I flashed the RUU (without any Goldcard) on my friends Desire S, which has Alpharev hboot 7.0... all the images flashed successfully except BOOT which was "Bypassed", so the Alpharev's hboot was not overridden by RUU, and the rom booted successfully.
My guess it is because it has bigger version then the on in the RUU.

I have hboot 2.00.0002 SHIP S-OFF before and after goldcard, so it is not Alpharev hboot.
I have sent my phone to repair once, so I'm not sure if it was XTC-clip S-OFF or not.

hi mirok, i have said that it's very strange that my device remains s-off and unlocked after updating by goldcard.
however everyone can use this guide to update ICS beside other guides.
