The desire s is a pretty new device, it was shipped with Android 2.3.3.
If you got an older Android version it can't be a desire s.
But to be sure is there a button at the bottom of the screen or are there only softkeys?
Or just go to settings -> about phone -> hardware.
Somewhere there should be the model.

Htc sensation xl

I think that is what its called is it possible to use ruu sensation xl to flash that 2.3.5 with sense 3.5 stock to tmous HTC sensation 4g? Without root? Or having to put a custom version of it?

Do not flash RUU from Sensation XL. It is different device.
BTW RUU problably won't let you do it, if you have stock ROM now
Wrong section, wrong thinking, and just in general wrong...
LOL! This has got to be one of the most funniest threads iv read in a long time'
And, if you ask, HTC Sensation XL is joke !
Front of SXL looks much better then regular Sensation.
Also, Sensation XL is 800 x 480. So wrong resolution.
Offtopic and irelevant.

Why would you put a stock DESIRE HD ROM on an INSPIRE just to hope that HTC will think you have a DHD and give you the update for the DHD? Well they won't anyways. You do realize a stock DHD ROM is not 100% compatable with the Inspire? They do have slight hardware differences.
Gene Poole has a rooted version of the new DHD ROM with adjusted drivers for the Inspire in the Development section. If that is what you want in the end then just install it. Here is the link.

Only problem with that is, other users, like myself, have gotten a bootloop after installation. It will boot, but will constantly loop on the "HTC - quietly brilliant" screen. Last I checked, there was no solution as of yet. If Gene Pool can figure out what is causing it and correct it, I will most likely try flashing it again.

If you really want to run this stock base, I would go into fshami's Sens 3.0i thread and ask Wild Child if you could test his soon to be released stock version of this base. It has all the S's- smooth, stable, speedy, solid..... I'm sure he wouldn't mind another good tester.

For the stock phone its android 2.3.3 withe sense 2.1 upgradeable to android 2.3.5 with sense 3.0 officially without unlocked bootloader. And yes, it will receive android 4 update but with sense 3.6
If you s- off your order phone or unlock with HTCDev you can load up pretty much any thing you want.

Gingerbread 2.3.3 with sense 2.1. Not sure if it ships with it but it can be updated to 2.3.5 with sense 3.0. Ice cream sandwich is expected this month with sense 3.6

Lucky if you get a desire S with sense 2.1.
First thing out of box, revolutionize it.
If you are buying a new phone, would recommend you too check one v. Almost same specs but newer model hence will receive more updates in the future

How do I get the latest version of Sense or upgrade the version I have?
Hope the microwave thing is a joke?!!! I'm really learning about these things so don't really know how to upgrade to the latest Android and Sense. If I only have Android 2.3 or thereabouts, how can I upgrade HTC Sense so that I can then upgrade my Android?
start from reading the manuals in the forum
if you want to stay on the official versions by htc, you dont need to do nothing.
your phone is up to date, and if update will be available your phone will tell you
I had ics running on my desire s worked fine apart from camera

Yes, because you didn't need htcdev and with revolutionary s-off you can do almost everything inside this forum, the only thing i would recommend is to change the revolutionary bootloader to a eng bootloader, check the index if you don't know how, it will keep you from problems you could face.

HTC Sensation and Sensation 4G,the same?

Hi all,
i bought yesterday my htc sensation 4G, and i want to install new custom ROM instead of the stock one, but all tutorials are talking about "HTC Sensation" and not "HTC Sensation 4G", is it the same?
can i follow this tutorial (in french)?
many thanks
They are the same. I bet googling "can I flash sensation ROMs on sensation 4G" would answer your question too.

thank you se1000, now i have my phone s-off/ rooted, and now im installing the touch recovery, but i want to know will i need to SuperCID my phone to install custom roms(i have 1.27.0000 hboot) ?
which Rom do you advice me to install (sense 4)?
Just my opinion but venom is good.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G with Beats Audio using xda premium
Venom Viper rom is good for Sense 4. I would SuperCID, just to be on the safe side
thanks to all of you,
but one last question, now i have sense 4 installed and i don't know which firmware i have, in the software number i get "ordroid 9.0.0" ??
when we need to change the firmware version? will i have the right to install any ICS/Sense Rom whith my curent firmware?
i had a HTC HD2 before buying this Sensation, i installed all avaible ROMs for the HD2 (realy all) and whitout any problem and without need to change any thing (bootloader,firmware,...) (after installing the right recovery), but with HTC Sensation i think it is more complicated,is it?

Sensation and Sensation 4G are the same phone. The Sensation 4G is the T-Mobile US variant (name only).
Yes I wondered the same thing until I learned the 4g like we have is just a name Tmobile gave it. It confused me too at first.

[HELP] HTC Sensation to Sensation 4G

Hi Everyone! I really need to ask this, it might be redundant but I tried to search for it but I failed big time. I'm really New at this device HTC Sensation 4G what I want to know is if I can use any HTC Sensation Specific Official Firmware or Custom ROM in this device. For example MIUIv4 or CM9 has an update for HTC Pyramid (Sensation) can I flash this w/out the risk of toasting/bricking my Device. Just like I flashed the wrong thing on my Device? Is it safe to assume that this ROM are universally compatible to all Sensation Series?
Sorry for asking too much, I just want to be sure.
