Question installing a rom backup on a different phone - General Questions and Answers

I have Frankenclean 2.8 on my fascinate (I love it btw) and I finally got approved for a replacement phone (droid x) because the fascinate has a reception issue that has yet to be resolved. I figured seeings how the phone was going to be discontinued I might as well try to get the X as it doesn't have a reception issue.
My question is this.
Can I backup my current rom using the boot loader.
Root my Droid X and install said backup from my fascinate?

No one knows ? I have 2 days before I need to send the phone back, if I can't install the backup on the X then I'm sticking with poor reception.

[Q] NOOB needs help w/milestone x

I have rooted an alltel motorola milestone x. From what ive read this is the same phone as droid x. ive tried several times to install roms from clockwork rom manager with no luck. phone just reboots and is back to normal. Should i be looking for milestone x specific roms or will droid x ones work. if i use one will it recognize alltel as my carrier or will it make my phone a big mp3 player
That your phone reboots to normal is an indication that no kind of installation took place.
At least your phone would NOT boot because you used an incorrect rom.
I'm note sure about droid x rom vs milestone rom, but did you check
this thread.
It has pretty clean guides.
There is also a subthread with steps for ROM installation that lists available custom ROMs.
Regarding your carrier i would make sure the rom you flash has a modem compatible with your carrier, i.e. right frequencies.

[Q] My first attempt at installing custom rom

I have TWRP installed on my One X and fully backed up my current settings through the Backup function in TWRP as well as Titanium backup, just to be safe.
I want to install MIUI so I've downloaded the zip. Is the best method to wipe the phone and then install the zip, or is it to restore to factory settings and then install the zip?
Also, if I want to go back to my current rom (HTC Sense - that came with the phone) how would I restore the TWRP backup that was created? Also how solid is the TWRP backup? Will I have problems restoring from that with random things like market associations or settings?
Thanks for all the help everyone.
TWRP backups back up EVERYTING (I mean kernel, system, app apks) except for sdcard data. Restoring a backup will look exactly like the moment you backed up the ROM.
In order to flash a new ROM, do this:
1. Back up your apps using some application (Titanium Backup, Ultimate Backup, etc)
2. Create a new TWRP backup
3. Factory Reset
4. Install the ZIP
5. Boot into your ROM and download whatever app you downloaded in step 1
6. Restore your apps from step 1
Enjoy

Don't flash anything that isn't actually in our dev forum unless you want a buggy POS (best case), a massive bootloop (slightly worse case), a beautiful paperweight (pretty bad), or your phone exploding (yeah that's probably the worst).
I made that last one up, but who knows.
As for Sense-less roms, look for AOKP or CM9. CleamROM DE/Dev Edition is pretty much Sense-less, but it retains some backend Sense things to ensure everything still works properly. It's as close to AOSP as you're gonna get without actually being AOSP.

Well there's another lesson in there. Don't flash unless you have sufficient battery (I never do it under 50%....best to do it when fully charged though)
So you're not getting the led indicator to light up when you plug it in? What rom did you flash?

[Q] Camera issues + RUU

Hello all,
I have an HTC One XL that I purchased full price from AT&T in late September. I had broken my Nexus, and needed a new phone "right then". Thank goodness I had insurance on it. Anyway - I was very happy with my HOXL until I unlocked the Bootloader, loaded a custom recovery, and flashed an AOSP ROM. It was all downhill from there. I was happy for a few weeks, and then: My camera DOES NOT WORK any more. I think "well damn, there it goes". I also noticed TERRIBLE battery life, and awful network performance. Being me, I thought "CM10/AOKP/AOSP wakelock issues!1!11!". I flashed ViperXL, with no change. Worse battery life, no camera. Being frantic, I tried to do a full wipe of everything through TWRP, and flash the "stock" 2.20 .zip from the development thread. Camera worked, for a while. Then... It stopped. I was wondering if I should try the Augus t8th RUU from htc.com/support. However, I have reservations. I have to latest bootloader that is a PITA, so.... What's the best I can do? I obviously have a defect... However, AT&T won't help me out because I'm using Tracfone. HTC won't help beyond me shipping it out for 3 weeks, with possible charges due to the status of my bootloader... Hence, I want to know what I should try and do?
Thanks for any help. Sorry about the wall ^^^^^
I'm not sold its a hardware issue, as flashing a new rom wouldn't have helped.
Messed with the kernel at all? Kernels have a camera fix going around.
Get back on cm10 and try flashing the full version gapps. See if that changes anything.

[Q] Looking for help fixing my mobile data and finding a ROM for my phone version

*What ROM should I get for my phone and will it solve my issue for data? and what am I doing wrong to install roms?*
About two weeks ago I finally got around to rooting my Android Razr Maxx so that I might speed it up since it had been laggy. I was able to root my device with no issues and overclock it to solve this problem. I began to expand to other things rooting would allow me to do and attempted to use a mobile data tweak-er to get a speed increase. At first it seemed to work great until at one point about a week later I restarted my phone and couldn't access my mobile data, I could only get WiFi and the 4G bar is always there with signal but remains grayed out. I started looking around for info and eventually asked two friends of mine who both noticed I had no VPNs listed in my phone and said that was why,I don't know how this could of occurred but both told me I could fix it by getting a new custom Rom if I didn't want to do a factory rest. If this is true I would appreciate it if someone could help me find a ROM that works for my phone. I'm currently using the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. stock version 4.1.2 system version 98.72.165.XT912 I have Safestrap 3.11 installed already and followed numerous videos trying to get a new ROM to work, so far I have tried Wizzed Bean Jelly Wiz and Eclipse but all 3 give me a boot loop when I try to get them working and I always have to revert back to to my stock Rom after my attempts. I'm guessing there was an incompatibility I wasn't aware of in all 3 cases.
Any help with any of this would be most appreciated and I apologize ahead of time as I may be ignorant to some things involving this question

How to flash to stock?

About 7 years ago a friend gave me their old HTC Evo Shift that wouldn't boot, I decided to flash it with cyanogenmod 7 to see if it would work and to my surprise it did. Given that I wasn't able to boot to stock I didn't bother to save any contents of the existing ROM (if that was even possible?).
Recently I found it again and I wanted to see if I could flash it back to the stock HTC Sense ROM, however I'm having trouble finding the stock ROM, was it ever released? If so does anyone know where I could find it?
