About 7 years ago a friend gave me their old HTC Evo Shift that wouldn't boot, I decided to flash it with cyanogenmod 7 to see if it would work and to my surprise it did. Given that I wasn't able to boot to stock I didn't bother to save any contents of the existing ROM (if that was even possible?).
Recently I found it again and I wanted to see if I could flash it back to the stock HTC Sense ROM, however I'm having trouble finding the stock ROM, was it ever released? If so does anyone know where I could find it?

Searched but couldn't find answer to my exact question. I've rooted/unlocked my Nexus S but I haven't yet flashed a custom ROM. I've downloaded a few possibilities though
However, let's say I decide to stay on stock, the next update that comes out 2.3.5, can I just flash that like I used to before I flashed a new recovery (and renamed the original recovery file) or would I have to revert to the original recovery? If the latter, how would I do this?
---I'm finding fewer compelling reasons for custom ROMs on the great Nexus S, its stock after all! I have no reason to overclock and I'm not into custom themes. However, on my MT4G (Glacier) there were many compelling reasons to root and flash a custom ROM. I now have a close to stock experience, got rid of the bloatware, and I get 2 days of battery life with RoyalGinger 2.1.
Having said that, I'm still itching to flash a few different ROMs on the NS and compare. Why, because I can now.

You can flash signed updates without any issue with CWM or the stock recovery.
However, if you flash a new kernel / boot partition the incremental updates will fail the assert checks. The same goes for themes / modified system files. If the update does an assert on those files to patch them it will fail and not flash.
If you are running a fully stock rom, unlocked with su added on though you won't have any troubles.
I too am using a mytouch 4G and thinking about getting the nexus s just looking at the roms and themes I had royal ginger 2.1 and the battery is amazing easily go 16 hours with heavy usage is there any roms here similar to that. Also I do not see any sense 3.0 like roms maybe I missed it but when you install a custom rom does the Nfc chip still work with out any problems even though I have not seen many places in N.Y.C using it or just maybe haven't noticed. *****Edit: sorry wrong side meant to post of Tmobile nexus s******
Hey there,
I have an interesting problem, and it has completely stumped me for the past couple days. I recently S-Off'd my Sensation, put cwm recovery on it, and set my CID to 11111111.
I haven't had any problems with that (except that I had to change computers to do it, Revolution didn't want to run right on my laptop or set the CID, so I had to use my desktop).
Now the problem comes when I try to flash a custom ROM. The first one I tried flashing was CM7. When it booted, I got a bootloop problem of the CM7 mod logo over and over. I decided maybe it was a problem with CM7 still being in alpha. Then I tried flashing HyperSensation 1.8, and got the same error (bootloop) on the loading screen. After trying various other ROMS, I realized that it was a common problem with all custom ROMS. Luckily I had backed up the stock setup, and was able to get into that. So it's not a problem with the hardware. I have only tried flashing gingerbread ROMS. I know that ICS ROMS need a new firmware, but I dont want to mess with that unless I can actually get a gingerbread ROM working first...
Any ideas? There was a thread or two about this (on other phones) but didn't have any solutions listed..
Thanks for any ideas people can give me!

Hi,
Did you root your phone?
Did you flash the superwipe zip first?
Also are you getting full reboots with HTC splash screen then animation or just the animation looping? Sometimes I have to let mine loop for 5 minutes after first boot of new rom before it settles.

I guess I hadn't done everything.. I didn't factory reset before flashing the new ROM... As soon as I did that it boot right in. That's a bit odd to me, as I didn't have to do that with my last phone.
Anywho, solved.

I can't decide, and I'd appreciate your advice. I'm kind of noob. I flashed a custom ROM on my mytouch 4g. And I only did it once. Afterwards, I kind of regretted it because the ROM seemed to be more buggy than the stock. Now, I'm waiting to get ICS on my sensation, but I keep looking through the threads at the ICS ROMs that are already out there and they look sweet. I'm not sure if I want to wait for the ICS OTA, or just flash a custom ROM. The only things that are stopping me from rooting my phone are the fact that I am kind of a noob, and I don't want to flash then have the OTA happen the next day, and have it screw with my stuff. Would I be able to go back to stock after the OTA, and then just have tmobile push the OTA? Also, I have a mac... and I'm pretty sure I can't use a mac for flashing new ROMs. I don't mean to be redundant and I hope this doesn't piss anyone off, cause I see a new thread everyday about the new ICS release. Thanks for any feedback.
You can revert back by flashing via RUU, after this you can receive the official OTA when it gets pushed. Now the part about you having a make may cause some problems. I suggest you do some Googling and find a good virtual machine to run Windows with on your Mac.
i would flash
i think you should definitely flash a custom rom. since the sensations release many roms out now have fixed issues of being buggy/ slow and battery draining. im using the newest insertcoin rom and had android hd revolution before that. both are super smooth and fast. as for reverting to a stock rom, i believe all you would have to do is find the update RUU file for the stock rom to go back, this will cause you to lose root, but after you flash a rom you'll probably feel no need to go back. and always make a backup
btw 1st post
I came from the mytouch 4g as well. If you rooted and flashed on that phone you will do just fine on the sensation. The sensation is about 100 times easier to root than the mytouch.

Hi,
I've recently had to replace my phone with another SENSATION 4G (bought second-hand, but new). I was originally running an older version of ARHD Gingerbread on my old SENSATION 4G and it was working great. The new phone came with a stock GB, so I decided to go ahead and initiate the ICS OTA update for my phone, but somehow in the middle, it failed. So what happened is that I corrupted my stock ROM and at the same time never had a chance to make a Nandroid backup. I then downloaded ARHD 6.7 ICS and sucessfully installed the custom ROM (followed all procedures to make sure my firmware and radio is updated), BUT everytime I rebooted into first boot, the screen would freeze at the Beats Audio logo (even tried leaving it on for 30min). I then tried different Sense-based ROMs (Elegancia, Dark Forest, original ICS RRU etc) but every time, it would hang at the boot screen. I thought my phone was bricked, but to my surprise, I was able to install smaller AOSP & AOKP based ROMs, like CM9 and Touchcream 2.1, and successfully boot and use them. I really want to be able to use Revolution HD roms to take advantage of my wifi calling, but now just cannot. I'm not totally new to this, as I've just upgraded my sister's Sensation 4G with ARHD 6.7 w/o any problems. I still don't understand why this is happening to my particular phone. Please let me know if you may have a hint of what the problem could be (could the failed OTA ICS update the root of my problem?). Thanks all.
flash a ICS RUU and see
here is the TMOUS ics ruu click me
I have an HTC One M9 sprint (himawhl). I have a problem finding roms that will flash and boot correctly. the reason I need a rom so badly is because I tried making a backup of the custom rom but I didn't know about the TWRP glitch where you have to mount the system as read only or else it wont make a full backup. I foolishly tried restoring this "faulty" backup and it screwed up the OS so it would just sit on the htc one screen forever. So I went rom hunting and I've tried a few like HD Revolution and Lineage OS. lineage refused to flash and I can't remember why (sorry) and hd revolution flashed but never booted, it would just get stuck at bootloader. I've realized now that i need to find a rom that matches the firmware (which i dont know which version it is) and that it would help if it matched the original android version which was lollipop. Also i happen to be on TWRP 2.8.7.0 (should that be updated?). Let me know if i missed any important details, Any and all help is very much APPRECIATED.
