ICS? I thought it was IBS.
I don't flame and usually stay out of wrong section arguments but come on. This isn't development related at all! Now let me get back to ripping apart this SDK image
An SDK isn't the same as the open source for the entire OS.
This only allows devs to update/create apps for ICS, not rebuild the entire OS for other devices.
cough so who gonnna develop this for us? now we on topic gimme ics or ima screammmmmm
Yes but from the SDK you can set up an ICS emulator and extract the files from the system image. People do quicky ports from this in the past just to show a device can run the new OS, but to build a fully functional OS you need the source to be posted.
If you already have the SDK installed just update the packages. No reason to install again.

Those were my thoughts exactly.
Personally if I couldn't help in an objective I wouldn't demand it to be done for me.
I would imagine GB drivers are compatible for the ICS for backward compatibility (mesh phones and tablets). It wouldn't make sense to require new drivers when the goal is to mesh.
If that's the case, CM7 might just convert over relatively easy. I'm sure there are gonna be issues and they may be forced to wait until the Galaxy S upgrades.

That'd be amazing, and I see how that would be a smart choice by Google.
If that's the case though, why wouldn't be able to just take bits and pieces of ICS and make a fully working ROM? If the drivers are the same.
I mean from what I understand the drivers are the only real challenge (and other minor issues), from what I can see for my G-Tablet and Honeycomb..

Hello Dear Developers and pals
I was thinking if our community could possible have a ICS Rom? Since the SDK has been released and the similar idea is still in progress for other phones why not our Fit
I don't know the technical requirements of the ICS and such correct me if I am wrong on this
Many users will agree on this perhaps,
Warm regards
I'm not sure if there will be a port for our device as the ICS requires an ARMv7 and it needs more than 256mb of ram to run smoothly (that's what I've heard from a few threads here on XDA) but I think its possible of a developer will work on it for out device, ICS works on any screen resolution of any Android device. I wanted to have an ICS port as well on our GFIT so lets just maybe wait.. or else just move on and upgrade to a high-end Android device.
Sent from my GT-S5670 using xda premium
For the Ram I think we'd not have much issues as we have 290mb
processor sure is an area of concern since it is ARM6 though through modified kernels we might be able to overclock the device and there is a bleak chance that ICS will run
Na.....
I don't think there will be a ICS ROM for this phone....
Unless someone ports Cyanogen Mod 8 or 9 which I guess would be based on IceCream Sandwich....

Well first of HoneyComb was meant for tablets and Ice cream Sandwich was a combination of HoneyComb and Gingerbread which will unite all the smartphones and tablets Android base. ICS will work on any screen resolution, be it a smartphone or a tablet. The only issue about ICS is that it needs 256mb of ram or more to run smoothly on our device and it needs an atleast a device that runs ARMv7
Lets just really hope someone who is patient and kind enough will port ICS to our device. Or else like I said from another thread, move on and buy a new high-end smartphone that will support ICS and wait for the official update. That's if you want to be up to date to the latest firmware of Android and geeky enough.

I know the news has been going about that official source has been released for ICS an course like a lot of other people are wondering what it can be ported over to. Now me i personally have no clue how to translate all the technobabble dealing with creating roms from source but I'm sure there people here that do understand it all what would it take to get ICS on our phones? Like i said i have no clue in reality what goes into rom creating with phone drivers an framework tweaking (i know our phone is "special") but just curious.
Nobody here can get gingerbread on it let alone ics. Don't hold your breathe for either one. Lol

well isn't the issue with GB that we DON"T have the source code for GB so you can't hand make a kernal for our device? While with ICS with the source out we could hand make the kernal and the roms so they work on out system if i'm understanding how to create a android rom an kernal correctly its easier to work from source then from SDKs or porting a rom from another.
The issue with porting GB is that we don't have a source designed for our phone. there's all sorts of GB sources released, but none that have been designed for our phone. That ICS source is the same source that CM is based on, it's AOSP (all open source project), but it still requires a newer kernel.

Hey folks,
So the Chrome team finally released Chrome for Android and you can find it here:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.android.chrome
But it seems like it doesn't support the G2x?
I can't find it on the Market App on my phone, and when I go directly to its page on the web and try to install it, it doesn't show a supported device. I wonder if this is only for rooted G2x's with custom ROMs, or if it just won't work on the G2x.
I have the latest SinghUI on mine, but I suspect Chrome just doesn't support LGE LG-P999's at all right now. Is it just me or is this happening to anyone else?
You need to have ICS (Android 4.0) for this app.
When you look at apps on market.android.com, it will show that on the right hand side, this app says:
REQUIRES ANDROID:
4.0 and up
So yes, doesn't support G2X yet, as G2X doesn't have 4.0
It only works with ICS according to the press release.
Oh. Duh. Thanks.

Galnet MIUI is just a gimmick created to get users to use and support their work. Looks and functions exactly like Gingerbread MIUI.
If you go into most miui threads alot of people think they're running ics. A friend of mine who I didn't know was into hacking android was showing someone how he was running ics on his old htc. When I looked at his phone and saw what it was I backhanded him across the face, explained to him what he really had running and then challenged him to a duel

Also consider that the International sgs2 uses the Exynos421x processor, where as the sgs4g uses the intrepid-hummingbird S5PC110 processor. Totally different.
7TimesCursed just gave me a tip that will help me move forward with CM7. (something I was hung up on)
CM9 is also still under development. A port would mean a buggy phone.
An ICS port would indeed be better.
After CM7 port is done, I still have plans to rebase our phone specific kernel stuff to the samsung aosp kernel. That my help us port to the 3.0.1 kernel that ICS uses. This is still a ways off, and hopefully by then CM9 will stabilize.
To the future!

No worries! I was trying to be more informational.
Ive currently been running NexusMod ICS Zero Build 2 Rev.12 (Beta 12) for a few weeks now and im wondering if anyone knows of a ICS kernel that would allow OTG functionality? Most of the kernels in the dishevelment section are for GB, I know Romracer has one for his ICS build but im not sure how to extract the kernel from the zip.
Please any info would be great
Coming from the Captivate section where everything is just laid out has spoiled me I guess...
I think romracers ics kernel is in the same thread as his GB kernel, iirc.

until source is released for Skyrocket ICS, no. Nothing can be added really until then. That's why you haven't been seeing the threads, not really any to make. Mohan has been starting work on a custom kernel from the international version source, but it's very alpha at this point. Soon as we get official ICS, Sammy should follow soon with our source, then progress on stuff like this, BLN, OC/UV, etc will really start cranking out quickly.
Thank both of you for the replies. I think I found a work around by installing toggle15. OTG is finally working for me..either that or it was a crappy cable
