Only can charge to 94% - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, just picked up a nexus the other day and noticed that no matter what I can only get it to charge to 94%. Any tips or ideas?

You're asking people a question with that tone? Good luck finding the answer alone...
BTW for the other interested and more polite members of these forums here's my answer - that's a common "issue" with the Nexus S and I found this without even searching for it... This "issue" or also called a feature is here to prolong the battery's life, to reduce rapid degradation (because they don't "like" to be charged to the maximum nor staying in the empty state).
If you don't like this "feature" try bump-charging the battery or "hack" the charging process.
Want to know how? Google it

The Nexus S does this on purpose,
to give you the technical reason why, I can't answer that. Should be something about overall battery life.
Heeter

This is by design.
Samsung and Google are watching your wallet by trying to prolong your phone battery's physical life.

So, why not just let our battery full and make it works more.
I really don't know yet.

Or maybe it is just a imperfection, not a feature.

If your rooted go into recovery and wipe battery stats to recalibrate may be off a bit

Because charging to 100% isn't needed and hurts the physical life of the battery.
The battery only stays at 100% for a couple seconds off the charger.
97% is close enough, those 3% wont help you.
its definitely not an "imperfection" though. Seeing as, crespo and crespo 4g users all have this.

if you use matr1x kernel v9.0 .. it takes this feature off. the battery charges all the way to 100%

well it could be implemented so that 100% is the new 95%.
after all it's an arbitrary number (more or less)

Oh, for the love of... NO-ONE READ MY REPLY??
Here, get on reading and getting some knowledge...
And if you must charge to 100%, maybe try this.

Simply let the phone not go to sleep when charging (stay awake) and it will charge to 100%. Easy. Done.
Dunno why people couldnt just simply reply with this.

matr1x 9.0 can truly charge to 100 or it's only digits ?

The negatives depend on who you talk to. Alot have GPS issues along with bad battery life. Also people have been going through signal loss. The good is the screen and with some Roms debloat and optimize it. Once rooted you have alot you can to customize it. Best just to search and see what other people are going through.
Ok I guessing that we don't have miui.us on the charge what's the average battery life on moderate to heavy usage
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
With moderate use, I can get about 12hrs. That's including internet, phone calls. videos and just generally messing with it. I managed to solve the gps problem with faster fix from the market. I now generally lock on in 10 to 20 seconds. The screen is incredible. I truly enjoy watching my videos on it. Enjoy your Charge.

I didn't have a proble mwith my original charge but had to swap it out because of other things. The CPO is when I started to have problems.
Not too many problems here except those that are hardware related... all roms I've tried run great, battery life is decent but I do have the infamous 'random data drop' bug and I've had a 4G sim replacement once (probably due to my compulsive flashing lol )

This is why I'm really hoping they work on better battery management for phones coming out in 2012. Does anybody really need a 2ghz quadcore phone when there battery will just die in 3 hrs? I'm perfectly content on 1ghz cpu's(there fast enough) hopefully with any luck future phone displays, cpus, gpus, etc all work together on ICS to bring a couple days of real time use, instead of just a couple hours without having to buy extended batteries/charge etc..

That's what I'm saying man. They're moving too fast with these processor cores. I say, take a year off on engineering processors and spend that time on extending battery life and make better batteries. I'm more than content with dual cores as it is.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Best way to extend battery life is to work on the cpu. If you shrink the cpu the it will use less watts per cycle. Also nvidia made a smart upgrade with its quad core by putting in a fifth slow main core. So work in parallel. Engineers work on making the cpu efficient and programmers should stop being lazy. It's not like these companies can't multi task
Sent from my NookColor using xda premium
They said the same thing about dual core saving battery life, that was a joke! Only way I get decent battery life is with my 3500mah extended.
Still I do agree that those 28nm krait s4 chips should take less battery usage, but I'm talking about more then just achieving much longer overall battery life from multiple factoring issues android has(better displays, gpu, cpu, larger stock OEM batteries,ui,etc) hopefully ICS and jellybean really step up to provide the ultimate android experience without having to charge our phones every 4-6 hr's lol

I am using eaglesbloods latest and using morfics elp kernel. I only get battery life like this when I'm in good service areas all day fyi. When I install a rom I really like, I erase the entire phone, reformat everything literally, then load the rom and kernel from USB mount in clockwork mod. I feel its best to have a completely clean flash. Then I charge the phone to 100 and calibrate battery stats. Some days I get battery life where I'm at 20% at 20 hours, others much much better. I'm always using the phone moderately. When I first read tthis and checked I was at 60% at 20 hours. Tried to post a screenshot bur it wouldn't work ... def. not pulling your left though. Also the only thing I sync is email every half hour. I uninstalled Facebook because it always runs in the background... makes me uncomfortable.

An extra internal 50mah battery to make removable batteries hot swappable without a reboot. Or do only small numbers of people even have a second battery?

You have to replace the battery about once every 2 years. That shouldn't be a burden. You should be rebooting the phone more often than that.

Well thanks for the replies. For some reason in my head I imagine swapping a battery like changing a mag in a gun. Pop a clip, slide it out and another in. Maybe a manufacturer will get around to it some day XD

This would be a good idea, but another user made a point about battery pulls, the phone would stay on as you attempt to force shut it down.
Also, boot times are getting faster and faster, and waiting for the phone to boot is not that bad anymore.

Yes I am aware of that. All I am saying is that 1950 and higher ml after market batteries are much more readily available for the galaxy nexus than the blaze 4G. This phone does not have a lot of accessories or battery options. It was barely marketed and I am just trying to help.

Some ebay listings on aftermarket batteries will have multiple device codenames ( ex. T769).
We are lucky we don't use an exhilarate, those things are below marketed. Rare to find in public at that.

I love wireless charging. It's just no hassle, and since I'm kind off paranoid of breaking the micro USB port on my N5 because it's really tight, it works. It's not as fast as the plug in charger that came with the phone due to the inherent inefficiencies or wireless charging, but it's still pretty quick. Depending on how low your battery is when you start charging, it would probably take 30-60min longer. But, I'm never really in a rush, and always keep my battery topped off, so I'm never in dire need for a super fast charge.
A word of caution though: STAY AWAY FROM THE TYLT VU. It has a serious issue with sporadically overheating your device. Check out these threads:

Once you go wireless, you won't go back.
I'm using my Nexus 4 Orb and it works great. It is a little slower than charging via a micro-usb cable, but if you're like me and charge overnight, it won't be an issue.
