[Q] Those who have torn their TF's down, where is the connection to the Screen? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

To start off I have had my B50 TF for about 4 months now and I have liked it and it does everything I need it to do.. I am now at college and it does a great job as a note taking and entertainment device.
How ever I was never 100% happy with mine as I has 2 dead pixels from the start, some minor light bleed and a few specs of dust under the screen.. I also have a keyboard that has the serious battery drain issue.. However I was so happy about having it that I didnt want to RMA the TF or the dock and have to wait until others came into stock..
Now for the sad story.. about 2 weeks ago I came into my girl friends dorm room and she had a sad puppy type of face on and she was almost in tears.. I finally got out of her that she accidently caught my charging cable hooked up to my TF and Dock and it fell about 2 feet onto a metal lamp and put a few decient sized scratches on the back of the TF.. I told her its fine and It booted up and worked fine so I was not worried about it at all.. and it work perfect after that for about a week.. Then I turned it on about a week later and the screen started flickering with blue lines all over and then I kinda shook it around a little and pressed the on/off button a few times and it was fine.. then today (about a week after the weird screen flicker) I walk into my Anthropology class and grab the TF and dock and I try and turn it on and it wont turn on.. Which is weird because I always plug it in on my night stand every night.. I just assumed my Asus charger got unplugged and after class plugged just the TF in for 8 hours.. Then I pull it off the charger for Comp Sci class and It wont turn on then either.. I will hold the power button down for 15 sec and then let go and all I hear is a little "click" that is the sound of it trying to turn on.. No screen animations, no black light, no sounds other then the click
I am devastated as I have entire class notes on there and also that was my everyday computer that I dumped allot of hard earned cash into. And when I told my girl that it wasnt turning on she felt so bad and was on the brink of a major emotional breakdown.. Its not the end of the world for me, but damn I am going to be devastated if $400 just went down the drain..
Anyone have any words of advice or any last efforts I could try? I guess if all else fails, I will be waiting for the TF2 to come out and hopefully it will still work with my dock..
Thanks everyone,
Nick
EDIT: I have HDMI out and have torn the TF apart and cant seam to track down the connection to the Screen form the board to make sure it is not a loose connection.. I am hoping something came loose and the screen is not FUBAR.. I dont thing the screen is dead though.. It was fine for 2 weeks after the drop, i would have thought that it would have been dead right away if the screen was dead..

The lcd cord might be loose in there. Open it up and tighten it.

I was thinking it was the screen ribbon cable but when there is no HDMI out either I was starting to think other wise..
Edit: Thank you for the Edit.. It just was not funny at the time..

Wow, feeling possessive there aren't we.
No hdmi out. That's a problem. I'm still convinced something is loose in there. You got nothing to lose. Open it up and try to tighten things up.

It would have been maybe a little funny if she was not in tears when she found out she broke my tablet with a ton of my school stuff on it and my most used piece of technology..
I will try and open it up eventually.. I am at school so I dont have any of my Tech tools.. I am going to have to either buy some or wait a few weeks till I go home..
Edit: My Computer will recognize it when I plug the TF In and unplug it.. Just I cant do anything with it.. I just hear the Windows sounds..

I am with goodintentions, a connector has come loose somewhere.

Update.. I have HDMI out and I opened up my TF and I couldnt find anything leading to the screen that was loose, but I didnt really know my way around that well.. Anyways, HDMI out works, but no screen still..

[Q] Problem with Screen?

I've got a transformer, and the screen doesn't appear to be working. My boyfriend bought it the first day it came out, dropped it, was able to play with it a bit. The battery died and he set it to charge, and after that the screen wouldn't work. The screen itself is fine, it just isn't displaying anything (He can't take it back for a warranty repair, because he threw out the receipt, that's why he threw it to me to look at).
When you plug it into a computer, the computer recognizes it and you can browse the files on it. When you use the hdmi cable to plug it into the tv you can see the screen of the tablet on the tv and you can use it, so it's not anything wrong with inside workings of the tablet itself. I took it apart and everything looked alright on the inside to me, nothing rattling around, and all the connections appeared to be connected tightly. I was able to see the slide to unlock symbol on the screen by shining a flash light directly on it while the unit was on, but it was really faint and hard to see.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? In a normal laptop I would say it's the inverter, but I'm not really sure if tablets use technology like that. I'm a bit at a loss here for what the problem could be and how to fix it.
Pretty close i would say its the digitizer though you will need to rma it to get it fixed
Screens break in many different ways, just because there is no crack or leaking LCD look to it doesn't mean its fine
I would place my bets on the screen being damaged, although the board could have cracked or a solder joint could have come lose or a tiny tear in the ribbon cable
Screen is the most fragile though
I had the same problem, and after opening the TF everything looked fine too. It was not. What I did was to unplug all the cables and plug them all again. Problem solved.
Probably the screen cable got a little loose after the drop.
Good luck.

[Q] do you guys think its dead?

Hello guys, Long time lurker first time poster, I dropped my tablet last night and now it will not do anything, and i mean anything, no lights just a little vibration when I hold the power button for about 15 seconds. do you guys thing the MOBO is dead or just the screen and digitizer? I'm afraid the worst has happened and it is completely dead but i would like to get a few opinions first.
Thanks a lot guys, also I might have had one too many drinks before posting this so please excuse any nonsense, I've proofread this thing about 10 times so hopefully all is good.
It could be your connector for the screen came loose. If you have a HDMI cable, use it to hook it up to your tv, see if you can get anything to show.

Thanks but I tried checking the connector to the mobo and its a no go, I don't have an HDMI cable so i cant try that. when i hook it up to the pc it shows up as NVIDIA storage... something i forgot. it doesnt show as a tablet and even asus sync doesnt recognize it. do you think its dead for sure?
also my drunk self doesnt know what hes talking about as the drop happened last week i just got around to messing with it last night.
Thanks for the help.
Maybe your volume up button is stuck so posing power on poor it in APX mode?

Water Damage

Well, it's been fun. My Q was sitting on my lap instead of the seat next to me, and decided to go flying into a glass of water.
I was using it for navigation, and the damned thing worked - got me back to the hotel. I shut it off, threw it in a box of rice... But it seems like a lost cause.
The phone turns on, most of it even works - I can see the screen, it connects to data, accelerometer works, vibe works, alarms, notifications... all work. But the touchscreen critically does not.
I was thinking, just replace the touch screen... well the USB port doesn't seem to work anymore either. It charges, but only occasionally does the computer detect anything is plugged in... and it doesn't know what the heck to do with it.
So I'm going to try and find a Q for sale... although somehow I doubt I'll be able to. Swappa has 0 lol.
Not sure what I'll get, but I am going to miss this small but tight nit community. Cheers!

Oh no, not good! How long did u "dry" it before u turned it back on? Maybe u should've waited more??
Anyhow, there are lots on amazon and ebay if ur in the states, very cheap prices.
But of course, there are lots of other nice phones out there! Thanks for all you have done for the community!

Do you not have TEP? I actually just got a replacement due to my touchscreen crapping out (it would work sometimes after a reboot--or several reboots more accurately, but even then sliding the keyboard out always instantly made it stop working).

No, I had TEP a while ago but let's just say they always managed to find a way to screw me. Got sick of it, and my last phone didn't even qualify for it...
That, and the whole voided warranty thing made me think it's really not worth it. Although in this case they would probably treat it as if the device was stolen, and make me pay the $100 deductible, or whatever it is now.
Looking at what it is going to cost to get another phone, I might just end up grabbing a Q on ebay. I really do like the physical kb, and there's really not a whole lot of choice out there (like I didn't know that already, lol).
We'll see. Since the thing still turns on and functions, I'm going to completely tear it apart when I get home and see if there's something obvious.

My transformer abandoned me today.

Yesterday i woke up to find my tablet unresponsive. Tried force-restarting it, but it never answered. "It's probably the battery, " I told myself, as I plugged it in to the wall and went to sleep.
This morning I tried booting it up again. It doesn't respond, doesn't beep, doesn't ilumminate and doesn't answer. It is not the battery, because I have it plugged to the original adapter, and the orange light is turned on. It is not the screen, because the tablet vibrates when booting, and not even the BIOS splash appears. At this point I came to conclusion that there is something very wrong with the hardware itself.
I don't like that it died peacefully in it sleep. The exterior is inmmaculate, I have cleaned it constantly, treated it well, and never dropped it to the ground. I cared for it beyond what it's laggy NAND deserved. For me it was like the stereotyped three-legged dog: crippled but loyal to the end.
Now I believe that cheap NAND ASUS soldered into it finally gave up. Or probably it just looked at me with envy, being constantly tempted by that Nexus 9 I see constantly on the internet, and it's weak NAND couldn't handle the betrayal.
So, is there any way to diagnose if my tablet finally wen to the big server farm in the sky? Is there any way to know what's wrong? Does anyone know what to do with the keyboard and cables other than trashing them? At the very least I want to know for certain if it is dead, so I can arrange a proper burial for it, with military honors and 21 canon shots... or more likely just dumping it into the recycling bin.
PS: If it's dead I believe I will replace it with a Nexus 9, but I am waiting for AnandTech's review. Is it the correct choice or does anyone know a better 10" tablet?
Did you try booting to the bootloader? Hold Power and Volume Down at the same time.
Try the reset pin hole (just above HDMI port) with and without Volume Down.
Good luck and do me a favor: Could you take a video of the burial and post it on YouTube? Would love to see that 21 gun salute LMAO

It didn't work. While plugged in I pressed the V- and Power buttons, and later the Reset and Power Buttons, and later all three at the same time. Neither worked. Nothing on the screen, No vibration, nothing. Yet the orange power LED shines when plugged in, don't know if it is a good or bad thing.
I guess that a few days of perspective really allowed me to sink the death of my tab.
But my snark came from the fact that I really took good care of my tablet. It is still in pristine, yet it still died. So frustrating.

XZ usb port bent pin

hi everybody,
i don't know if i'm the only one, but my XZ usb port has something inside (like bent pin on the right side) every time i plug in the charger it feels like it's not well plugged, also, if i move it gets loose easily.
i was looking inside the port, and i kinda noticed a metal pin bent inside preventing the usb to connect firmly.
i had to use macro-lens and LED light to zoom in and take pictures.. so hard to see inside the port.
is it possible to fix it, like pull it back to it's place with a tweezers?
please check the attached pictures
thanks for the suggestion and help.
omg i cant believe that there is another guy with identical problem...i also have this isuue on my 10 day old XZ....usb port feels like its half broken and very loose also it makes bad clicking sound when u plug the cable and also when u plug it when the screen is on it also blinks a bright with light on the screen where the usb is positioned...This is definetly a design or counstruction fail. Im taking it today to waranty and also im quite pissed off by this xperias...my last good one without a single issue was xperia Z2 after that everything is a banana
Same here, phone is 6 days old
lol so that must be definetly a construction fail...what a shame Sony...i went to Sony service and i told them about this wierd issue and they somehow didnt want to believe it but when i showed them they were surprised.will see what will they do ...ill let u know guys...but i actualy dont believe that they will be able to fix that cuz even if they replace my phone or just the usb port ,still i think that its a design fail,,,usb port is simply made to badly...very loose and its not robust or sturdy enough cuz after few times pluging in and out the usb breaks fast. cheers
I've never had an Android phone where the USB port didn't feel dodgy. Apple's Lightning connector is way,way better. Having said that, my XZ charge cable wobbles about a bit but it clicks in place and charges with no issue. The phone is 4 months old and gets charged twice per day.
I had the same issue around the same time but couldn't find a thread for it. I think mine was caused by putting my phone on charge sideways on my desk, so the cable was bending from the phone to go off of my desk. The cable didn't go all the way in, it had to be forced in and then it was loose so it'd just fall out the moment you touched the phone. I had purchased mine from Sony on Amazon so I contacted Amazon, they sent me a new one the next day. My issue with this one is the phone has just bent itself slightly so it's no longer flat on the desk, it's more like a wobbly table. Possibly by me putting it in my back pocket for 1 minute to walk to the toilet with it.

hi..ill share u the same experiance i had...i bought a new XZ and after 10 days of usage i noticed that the phone is a banana(bent) and also i had wobbly usb port very loose feeling...so i went to Sony and they sad that this is normal and that i suposably dont know how to plug this new type of usb OMG i sad( what a patetic answer) ... so when we talked about phone beeing bent and its a new one he sad that he noticed that but cant do anything cuz this wont go under waranty LOL of course it wont dumbass they will say that i bend it and its a physical damage....so i sad to myself ok Sony u scammed me this time but u definetly wont for a second time....so after a month of usage now my xz is solid strait like a laser no banana design anymore LOL how that happend i dont know.all i can do is guesing and it probably stratend it self by overheating and cooling(expanding and straching).thats all i can say about XZ, but afterall its a very good solid performer and design is far better than any Sansung ,Apple or LG phones.cheers guys
Same problem here... Disapointed by the cable attachement to the phone....
And the clicking sound is weird.
hey guys just to let u know something if u noticed that ur usb port is bending while ur pluging it in it is because of bad design for sure but i also noticed that its my fault when it comes to that clicking sound when u plug it because i pushed cable to hard and it made that sound click....but if i plug it gently no bending or clicks and usb stays quite firmly.so yea they made bad usb port but they wont admit that mistake and also they will say to u that until the phone is working by manufacturers condition there is nothing wrong with it.my next phone will definetly have a deep usb precheck
