[Q] Return to Stock question.... - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hoping someone can assist... I need to return my Infuse to AT&T for credit, and want to be sure it's back to the same state I received it. The only mods done were rooting (via SuperOneClick), replacing stock 3e recovery with modified 3e recovery, and flashing the Community Kernel v8. I did backup my stock kernel with SGS Kernel Flasher so here's what I've done so far to return it to stock:
1) disabled voodoo lag-fix (rebooted, and now back to RFS)
2) using SGS Kernel Flasher, I flashed back the stock kernel
(confirmed it's the stock kernel via CPU Spy).
Now my questions:
1) Before I unroot using SuperOneClick, I think I need to do a Factory Reset, correct?
2) If so, can I do this via CWM green?
3) Does Factory Reset then remove CWM or do I have to manually remove it? If so, how?
4) Do I need to unroot via SuperOneClick before Factory Reset or does Factory Reset also remove the su files?
Thanks.

[Q] How do you return to stock recovery?

I replaced stock recovery with Clockwork Mod recovery after I used One-Click Root. I would like to go back to stock recovery, before I one click unroot and return this phone to At&T.
Any tips to go back to stock recovery?
I saved the stock recovery as recovery.orig before I did anything. It is save in my /system/bin folder..
Flash to stock and return the phone - it will remove the CWM from the phone.
I was trying to avoid flashing to stock, only because I see some people had problems.
I assume they must have had "repartition" checked when they used ODIN.
I am assuming it should not be checked, correct??
If your using the PIT file then Odin will repartition it. YOU wont need that. just dont use the ultimate one brick use gtg's other return to stock with just the md5stock.Tar file and you should be ok.
even if you use the ultimate unbrick with the pit files(which i have used numerous time) you should still be ok.

unroot confirmation

hey all, currently have a g2x rooted with cm7, and i've been looking to unroot;
just to make sure i dont do anything stupid, i wanna run this through with you guys:
first i would flash the stock 2.3.3 ota rom for g2x
then use the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847 (one click nv flasher) to get back to lg stock recovery by clicking 'flash stock recovery' (do i need to dl anything extra for this?)
then im done, correct? if i boot up, ill get all the stock rom and apps and bloatware and etc back right?
thanks!
edit: how do i know which version of clockwork mod i have installed? im not sure if i did the external sd support or not...
You've gone back to a stock ROM, you've gone back to the stock recovery, but you haven't actually unrooted.
Whichever method you used to root, you should be able to use that same method to unroot.
UPDATE:
I was originally under the assumption that your 2.3.3. ROM was rooted. If it is stock you should be fine.
sorry for bump, but i read in tga_gunmans post that ppl should flash a rooted 2.3.3 rom and use superoneclick to unroot...would my method work too?
No your way would not work because the stock OTA by xboarder is rooted. Do what tga_gunman said. Flash the rom, use my unroot zip in CWM (deletes root files) and then flash the stock recovery. Busybox will still be on the phone but nobody should be looking for that.
Unroot zip: http://www.mediafire.com/?2vr7cmgg7qcdn14
Easiest way to confirm if your not rooted would be to install Superuser from the market. It'll tell you if the phone's not rooted.
There is an app on the market called Root Checker which is free. It will tell you if you are rooted or not.
A little extra help for me?

Thanks for your help jboxer. Forgive my noob-like understanding of rooting/unrooting terminology. Hopefully you'll be able to understand what I did.
Last night I went ahead with the unrooting process on my G2X which was running Gingerbread & CM7 following this youtube video (can't post link due to noobiness: watch?v=ryGIv8KQVIE), the order that this guy goes in is:
1. Wiping all cache/user data/formatting in CWM recovery
2. Restore to a barebones stock data in CWM recovery
3. Flash to go back to Stock using OneClickRecovery
4. SuperOneClick to unroot phone
What I ended up doing was restoring my phone to the backup that I created on my sd card when first rooting my phone rather than download that zip file in the video description which is a completely fresh start.
However, whenever I flashed to go back to stock using OneClickRecovery, it gave me that total barebones fresh start where I had to completely set up my Android from the first start screen and I lost my backup. Also, when I go to unroot the phone with that zip file, I don't know how to 'install from zip' after I've lost CWM Recovery menu. So, I flashed back to CWM so I could recover my backup from my SD Card again and install the 'unroot.zip' that you linked and it ran alright and I restarted, but I still had 'SuperUser' in my App drawer telling me that I was still rooted.
I ended up calling it good last night after spending two hours on it. I left my phone rooted, with CWM recovery still on my phone, but I at least I had my backup Gingerbread image with no CM7 mod. So, my phone is functional, but I would like to complete this process of unrooting completely.
Could you perhaps give a little guidance and clarity to what I'm missing or not understanding? I'd love to unroot/flash back to stock recovery/remove all evidence of rooting AND keep my recovered backup that I have before I even started rooting my phone.
Thank you so much for all your help, everybody.

How to reset? Ive done Superonclick & Clockworkmod Recovery Rom

Things Ive done:
Android Version 2.3.5
Baseband ver: I727UCKJ2
Kernel 2.6.35.11
Superoneclick Root
Clockworkmod recovery rom installed
I think Ive deleted some of the ATT bloatware.
How do I factory reset so I can get the next over the air updates?
IF I reboot to recovery with ROM Manager, will
Wipe/data factory reset & wipe cache set the phone back to like when i first got it from ATT?
I want to able to get the over the air updates tomorrow, What do I do?
If you have the stock UCKJ2 rom (which it appears that you do) then there is no need to factory reset or wipe data.
You will need to flash the stock recovery tar via ODIN, because OTA updates will not work with CWM recovery.

will this increase my flash counter?
No, because you would be flashing the recover partition only.
The flash counter trips only when a custom rom package containing a kernel (boot.img) is flashed.

Wipe data will never reset you to stock when you are running a custom from, which you are not. Nor will it return you to the stock recovery. So all you have to do is flash the stock recovery tar through Odin you can find that in development along with instructions. Also note that by updating through ota you will lose root access
My phone is running android 2.3.5. kernal version 2.6.35.11 and baseband is I727RUXKJ7. its a roger i727r though. so my baseband would be UXKJ7
I'm on stock rom, rooted and have cwm installed. I wanna delete cwm and totally wipe my phone of root and everything.
my phones speaker has been messing up and i want to send it in for warranty.
how can i do all of this without tripping the flash counter?
Basically, u can't. That being said I haven't heard of anyone tripping the flash counter and having issues. If you've done it once or twice u should be ok

[Q] Safe to factory reset?

My brother has an S3 and he doesn't want to have it rooted anymore.
He changed from the stock ROM to a Slim ROM.
Can he factory reset it and everything be back to normal?
This was the method he used to root it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
Yes flashing back to stock will sort you out. Since there is a custom recovery installed already, (since he already flashed a custom rom) you will need to use Odin if you want 100% stock.

[Q] Restoring my Galaxy S Blaze to its original configuration

I recently purchased a Galaxy S Blaze which I now need to return, but before I do so I want to restore it to its original configuration. The device is currently rooted, and ClockworkMod Recovery is installed. I had installed a custom ROM called Cyanogenmod 10.0.0, but then I eventually restored a backup, via CWM Recovery, of my original Gingerbread 2.3.6 load (baseband version T769UVLF5). Also, I have backed up my contacts, etc.
From what I understand, I need to unroot the phone, reset the flash counter, remove CWM and reinstall the stock recovery utility. And after researching the individual steps of this process, I'm still unclear on some of the details. So here are my questions:
1. In what order must these steps be performed, and is there anything else I need to do?
2. Since I have restored a backup of the original firmware, do I need to perform the additional step of downloading and installing a stock firmware such as SGH-T769-UVLB7-k0nane.7z in order to unroot the phone?
3. Where do I obtain the stock recovery with which to replace CWM, and how do I install it?
I'm still new to all of this, and I want to make sure I do this right!

I followed these instructions to reset the flash counter:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955273
After the reset successfully completed (from within CWM), I rebooted into download mode and installed the stock ROM SGH-T769-UVLB7-hitsquad.tar, as explained here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591601
Once again, I rebooted into download mode, which displayed this information:
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES(2 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
What did I do wrong?
Specifically, I don't understand how to reset the counter as the last step. (Because resetting the counter requires CWM, and CWM requires root access.)
You don't need root to have cwm, just Odin it.

Thanks, Romman0-- I didn't realize that.
Just to follow up, my problem was that I was flashing with the "stock" ROM SGH-T769-UVLB7-hitsquad.tar. When I downloaded and installed an "official" ROM from SamMobile, everything worked perfectly.
I appreciate everyone's help!
