[Q] Restoring my Galaxy S Blaze to its original configuration - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

I recently purchased a Galaxy S Blaze which I now need to return, but before I do so I want to restore it to its original configuration. The device is currently rooted, and ClockworkMod Recovery is installed. I had installed a custom ROM called Cyanogenmod 10.0.0, but then I eventually restored a backup, via CWM Recovery, of my original Gingerbread 2.3.6 load (baseband version T769UVLF5). Also, I have backed up my contacts, etc.
From what I understand, I need to unroot the phone, reset the flash counter, remove CWM and reinstall the stock recovery utility. And after researching the individual steps of this process, I'm still unclear on some of the details. So here are my questions:
1. In what order must these steps be performed, and is there anything else I need to do?
2. Since I have restored a backup of the original firmware, do I need to perform the additional step of downloading and installing a stock firmware such as SGH-T769-UVLB7-k0nane.7z in order to unroot the phone?
3. Where do I obtain the stock recovery with which to replace CWM, and how do I install it?
I'm still new to all of this, and I want to make sure I do this right!

Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda premium

I followed these instructions to reset the flash counter:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955273
After the reset successfully completed (from within CWM), I rebooted into download mode and installed the stock ROM SGH-T769-UVLB7-hitsquad.tar, as explained here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591601
Once again, I rebooted into download mode, which displayed this information:
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES(2 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
What did I do wrong?

Specifically, I don't understand how to reset the counter as the last step. (Because resetting the counter requires CWM, and CWM requires root access.)

You don't need root to have cwm, just Odin it.

Thanks, Romman0-- I didn't realize that.

Just to follow up, my problem was that I was flashing with the "stock" ROM SGH-T769-UVLB7-hitsquad.tar. When I downloaded and installed an "official" ROM from SamMobile, everything worked perfectly.
I appreciate everyone's help!

[Q] How to update GTP3113??

I am on stock(P3113 rooted+cwm)...I am getting an OTA for 4.0.4 but for that i'll need to go back to stock recovery...Should i :
1) Flash stock rom n then take the OTA
2) Flash 4.0.4 through odin [ http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-P3113 ]
3) Flash stock recovery n then take the ODA.
I would like to go with option 3 cuz it will require the min. amount of downloading....But for that i need stock recovery...So what should i do n is there any other way??
On my 5113 the only thing that worked for me was to flash with Kies and then reroot. It was well worth it though.
There doesn't seem to be an easy way to get just the recovery and I think (not sure) that only Odin can unlock that partition anyway. There are some stock images in Odin format and I have been meaning to pick through them to see if I can find the stock recovery image, but since no one has posted such, I am guessing you can't.

But the problem is that i can't update vie kies...It keeps on disconnecting, so OTA is my only option n for that i need to get rid of CWM.
I am curious too, I rooted using this method, and have CWM installed.

I guess I can just flash the stock image and loose root, upgrade, then reroot. Hopefully, someone will drop a stock, rooted and deodexed 4..0.4 rom for the P3113.
Also, I have not used Kies before, so I guess I don't even know how to flash the stock image for this tablet. Can anyone help with that?

To flash stock you'll have to use the stock rom n flash using odin,,, But i was hoping that there is way around it...
I've updated today my rooted P3113 to 4.0.4
This is the only way to upgrade rooted P3113 (with CWM), because the samsung official upgrade scenario doesnt works on CWM
1. Backup with Titanium
2. Wipe/factory reset with CWM
3. Download and unzip stock 4.0.4 firmware from here, then flash it with odin (PDA button)
4. Configure your device (now it's clean stock apps and stock recovery)
5. Restore your apps with Titanium
6. Install CWM and root - If you wish so (just as you installed on 4.0.3)

I would imagine this is just like the 5113. If you use Keis instead of the OTA update it works. Apparently Keis uses the USB instead of the recovery. However, a lot of people are having trouble getting Keis to stay connected. But I used it with no problems. Just reflashed CWM and rerooted as you say, but did not have to reflash to stock.
Just updated manually from 4.0.3 + Rooted + CWM 5.5.0.4 (GT3113)
Sorry too young to post links
Went very simple (10 minutes)
Returned to Stock Recovery: h://theunlockr.com/2012/06/02/get-samsung-galaxy-tab-2-7-gtp3113-back-stock
REBOOTED
Applied Update (not 4.0.4, not sure what it was)
Downloaded 4.0.4 from Samsung directly: h://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-P3113
Unzipped to Desktop
Updated to 4.0.4 using ODIN (PDA)
REBOOTED
System applied update on startup
Asked me to select language, date, Goodle backup, etc
It loaded all existing Apps, Wi-Fi, etc automatically no TiRestore needed
Up and running, seems faster- smoother, new keyboard (old keyboard was good, this one is as good better for big fingers?)

I downloaded the file from the Samsung site, launched Odin and updated. It kept all my apps and settings since I did not wipe. Flashed recovery, then rerooted, did not take long. If it gets yucky, I will do a factory reset.
Very helpful!
Very helpful guide.
On a semi-related note, I really like 4.0.4 it's certainly an improvement over the last and seems to have cured the stupid interface lag.
Ok flashed mine using mobile odin...no need to wipe data..

Your steps are so easy. I wish I could follow you on this, but I can't figure out how to revert back to stock recovery only. The theunlockr.com link shows how to completely revert the entire firmware. How do you revert recovery ONLY?
Hasn't someone made a .zip file that can be flashed with CWM? Why is it different than flashing a 3rd party rom?

[Q] NOOB question

On the other day, I manage to soft brick my phone. Since then, my journey started on improving my phone.
My question is this. The steps I took were all correct right?
Flash Firmware ( I535VRBLK3) using Odin,
Flashing the Bootchain (VRALEC.bootchain.tar) with Odin,
Flashing CWM6012TouchVZW.tar.md5 with Odin,
install ROOT and Unlock Bootloader(SuperSU + Unlocked Bootloader) from storage by using CWM recovery,
Flash the VRBLK3 Bootchain using ODIN to restore the Original Jelly bean VRBLK3 Bootchain,
Copy CleanROM to storage
Reboot to Recovery
Recommend wiping data / Factory Reset in Recovery!
Flash ROM and choose options
Now, here comes my question. I want to do these steps again because I messed around a bit too much again. The main question I have is Firmware is necessary in order for Roms to work??? To clarify, I535VRBLK3 firmware needs to be installed in order for CleanRom to be installed? Am I getting this correct?

No, you can be on a ICS build then flash a JB rom if you want. You dont need to reflash with odin either, you can just wipe in recovery and reflash the rom.

[Q] New to rooting, updating

Hi,
I'm thinking about rooting my Note 10.1 (mostly because I want to use DicertoryBind/Link2SD) via ClockworkMod Recovery.
My questions:
I won't receive any OTA updates, cause the status will be custom, right?
I want to stay on stock FW, what can I do to update my tablet if there is a new OTA:
Can I directly flash the FW from sammobile with odin or are they not campatible with cwm? Would that mean that every time there is a new OTA, I have to unroot, flash back to stock recovery, get the OTA, flash back cwm and root again?
Isn't there a way to flash the update while keeping all my data (just like normal OTA does) and root ?
Thanks!

You can flash using ODIN, but you will need to re root the device, also chances are you will not lose data but in rare cases you will need to do a factory reset which will mean you lose all your data.

Okay, that means I download the firmware from for instance sammobile, flash it using ODIN (will that be PDA only, like flashing cwm?), and then re root means install superSU again from cwm or installing cwm completely new?
*edit* Thanks for the sticky!
Yes you can use this post to know how to install using odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080366
You do not require CWM to root you can use the exynos patch apk to root you can download the apk from here

Hey, thanks so far, I just installed CWM, everything went fine, but if I look at the system status it still says "offical", does that mean I can receive OTA's? Or won't that work cause of CWM?
Also I believe before it didn't say "official" but "normal".
*edit* okay, nevermind, after a reboot it sys now "custom"
Since you have rooted your device you can also use Mobile ODIN to flash the roms from sammfirmware directly on your note 10.1. You just make sure everroot is ticked but if you think you might loose root then have both the CWM.tar file saved on your device, its a tiny file so no real space lost or if you don't care about CWM but want root access then keep the exynosexploit.apk on your device. I have everything I need on the sd card in case I cant get to a PC. Much better when I'm not tied to the PC...

Thanks so far, but theres one question left: From what you've said I think it's possible to flash with odin or mobile odin while CWM is still installed, what will happen to CWM after the flash? Is it completely gone (stock recovery comes with the firmware?!) or does "re root" only mean that I have to reinstall superSU with CWM?
You will go back to stock recovery but you might retain root if you ticked everoot function....
As I said earlier, you can reflash CWM onto your Note using mobile ODIN if you have the CWM.tar file stored on your device...
+1 for Mobile Odin if you're wanting to stay stock.
Use Exynos Abuse to root the first time.
Install Mobile Odin pro.
Backup your EFS partition off the device.
Install CWM using Mobile Odin and make a nandroid backup.
Back up apps with Titanium if required.
Download the new stock from you want and use Mobile Odin to install with Everoot selected.
Use Mobile Odin to install CWM.
Simplest method I've found by far.

After rooting with exynos abuse root, can you just do a factory reset to make you stock again to get OTA's?
I don't believe so (prepared to be corrected) but if you reinstall the stock rom without Everoot ticked and factory reset you'll be back to stock unmodified.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Never tried but I don't think so, The OTA checks for an unmodified system and even though stock recovery says its official the status in settings is "Custom".
What if I'm on the stock rom (never went custom) and stock recovery. All I did was root? Would a recovery restore allow me to get OTA's?
if you are on stock recovery then why would you restore recovery.
Yes if you are rooted only you will receive OTA if you are on the orignal rom (rom from country which note was purchased irrespective of the version you are on)

That is my situation, exactly. So, I can take OTAs in my present situation? I used #2 root option from zedomax. I haven't changed anything or used a custom rom. All I want to do is get current on my updates, and retain root and CWM.
Should I also use TriangleAway, and at what point? Thank you.
Apologies to the OP, but I've been waiting for a chance to resolve this.
If you used method 2 you have replaced the stock recovery... That's what CWM recovery means...
You're flash counter will now be one and need to be reset using triangle away. No OTA for you...

[Q] Backup stock recovery for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (US Wifi+IR) P3113

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (US Wifi+IR) P3113 [ROM Build Number: IMM76D.P3113UEBLH2] which is still 100% stock. I plan on installing a custom rom, but first I want to make a complete backup of everything.
I know I need to use a custom recovery (I plan on using ClockworkMod) and flash the custom rom. I don't have any problems with that part.
I also have all of my data already backed up. I plan on doing a full factory reset before installing anything anyway.
My main issue is that I want to backup the original stock ROM and all other partitions/images before making any permanent changes.
Since the device doesn't support fastboot I can't just "fastboot boot cwm-recovery.img" to do a temporary boot to backup the stock rom and recovery. All the instructions I've seen indicate I must first flash a new recovery image then boot the device from that. This would cause me to not have a backup of the stock recovery image.
I didn't see any backup options in Heimdall or ODIN either. No luck with Check Fus either.
Is there a way to backup the stock recovery image without flashing anything to the device first?
I have looked at sammobile at the P3113 firmwares, but I can't be sure those apply to my version (US WiFi + *IR blaster*) or would have the stock recovery image. Samsung Kies doesn't seem to have any updates or downloadable firmware for my tablet (it still has the ROM it came with out of the box) that I could extract the stock recovery for my P3113 (US WiFi+IR) from either.
I'd like a backup of everything so I could revert to 100% stock if needed. I also want to be sure I have the original recovery image and not some other version from a "stock rom" downloaded from the Internet.

Excellent way of articulating the issues and questions rbeede.
This is exactly what I have been trying to do too. I have searched the forums and google and haven't been able to figure out how to do this either. I was actually fixing to post the same questions myself and thought I should do one last search before I did, which lead me to this thread
I have the same tab and build (P3113 - ROM Build Number: IMM76D.P3113UEBLH2). As an android newbie I have been reading/researching for hours a day since Christmas and there is still a lot I don't understand. This is the first step I would like to take though and I intend on doing a full factory reset before installing anything too.
Can anyone help us with this please?
A. Want to backup the original stock ROM and all other partitions/images before making any permanent changes. Would like a backup of everything so I can revert to 100% stock.
B. For the same reasons as the OP, I also want to be sure I have the original recovery image and not some other version from a "stock rom" downloaded from the Internet.
I am happy to show proper appreciation for anyone who can help and once I get things sorted out and figured out I am willing to help others too. Thank you in advance
Backup
Howdy
You should find and download the stock rom for your device on the net. I myself do not recommend you to install custom rom as it can brick ur device.
For the backup:-
1. For the backup of your apps download this app (App Backup and Restore) from the play store. It can backup ur apps and then can also restore them back but also dont forget to take the backup of this app itself.
2. Connect your tablet/phone to your pc/laptop and then copy all the files in your SD card and Device and store them to seperate folders on your pc/laptop.
3. Now the backup of all your files is created.
According to my information you cannot backup your current rom you will have to download the stock rom from the net which you need and then fla**** in case of a mishappening or incase you wish to revert back.
Best of luck Happy flashing and a happy new year.

@kunalthakur - There isn't an official Samsung download source that one can use. Most of the other downloads I've seen have had the recovery.img modified to enable the backup in the first place. We want a trustworthy (verified no malicious software added) stock OEM rom/recovery with no modifications.
I have had some initial success getting the Samsung Kies software to attempt to download the current official ROM from official Samsung servers. I guess Samsung wants people to only download via Kies instead of offering it on their website to reduce the load on their servers and prevent end-users from flashing the wrong ROM because they didn't know what they were doing.
I will update if I have success getting a clean download.
If u are successful in flashing the original rom then notify me too as i dnt know of any such method. Oh by the way here is a site where you can download original roms.
downloadandroidrom.com
And by original I dont mean official.

That site didn't have a ROM for the US (Wifi+IR) GT-P3113
I did however notice that an official ROM update has just become available in Samsung Kies.
Version ending in LK7 (update from LH2).
I'm going to try to save a copy of the download for backup purposes.

Hello,
I'm using Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8013, UEALI3).
As our hardware and software are almost identical, I'll assume things will be the same for you and me.
How to create a full backup of your device, without touching anything?
There must be a way, but I also couldn't find it.
So, I found a way that just works as we expect.
To create a full stock device backup, with all images and partitions, without rooting, you'll have to....
Flash CWM! No, please, wait, let me finish...
When you flash a custom Recovery, it is actually not something permanent.
Once you boot your stock rom with stock kernel, your custom recovery is overwritten with the default one.
So, you can flash your CWM, and reboot your device immediately to it.
If you let your stock ROM boots, you are going back to stock recovery.
EXCEPTION:
- When you boot to CWM, choose "Reboot", you'll be given the following option: "ROM may flash stock recovery on boot. Fix? This can not be undone.". If you choose "Yes", you'll never get to stock again, even while booting stock rom.
So, flashing a custom recovery is actually very similar to "fastboot boot recovery recovery.img", as no permanent damages are made.
Finally, that's what you'll have to do:
1) Use Oding to Flash CWM. DO NOT Restart your device from ODIN.
2) Force turn off your device (press power button for > 8 seconds)
3) Boot to recovery (power button + volume up)
4) Make a full backup! In this backup, you'll have the CWM recovery.
5) Reboot your device.
6) Boot normally, and copy your backup from SDCard to your computer.
How to restore the stock I just saved?
1) Flash CWM again if needed.
1.1) If you want to get rid of the binary count, you'll have to make CWM permanent.. for a while.
1.2) Boot into CWM, go to Reboot Device, and choose "Yes - Make it permanent".
1.3) Boot your rooted ROM, download and execute TriangleAway.
1.4) Ok, your download count is zero.2) Now, go back to CWM and restore your backup.
3) This time, you have your stock rom + stock kernel, but still have the CWM recovery.
4) Boot your stock rom
5) Now, you have your stock rom + stock kernel + stock recovery.
I know this is not what you REALLY wanted (extract stock images, including stock recovery image), I wanted that to..
But this just works.
Let me know if I was able to help you.
Good luck!
So this is basically not possible then?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 won't update

I have a samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 gt-p5113
I tried to root it before, but got as far as flashing the recovery software ( can't find the thread I used to do this but I think it involved odin)
anyways when I flashed the recovery software the tab got stuck at the boot screen and I though it was bricked but after reflashing and restarting it a few times it worked again....needless to say I didn't have the balls to try rooting it after that.....
now when I search for software updates it says my device has been modified and cannot update ( it still is NOT rooted )
Is this because of the recovery software?...which as far as I can tell hasn't been properly installed cause I can't find any evidence of it on my tab, even when i hold down the power and volume button and the recovery software is supposed to show up.
and how do i undo it so that I can get updates? I just want the stock software back. will a factory reset do the trick?
No, the instant you attempted to install CWM, a bootloader data value changed that made your device always read as modified. There are three ways to get to Jelly Bean from where you are.
1. Root and run TriangleAway. This app will reset the bootloader counter, so you should be able to upgrade normally.
2. Install CWM via ODIN and install a custom JB-based ROM. You will need to root first if you want to keep your data via Titanium Backup.
3. ODIN a JB-based ROM for your carrier/region. Same deal as above with rooting and keeping your data.

3. ODIN a JB-based ROM for your carrier/region. Same deal as above with rooting and keeping your data.

I have this same exact problem. I have tried to un-root but nothing happned. I have tried to update via Kies and nothing happened. Should I try to root again? I just want to get the 4.2.2 update.
If you want your device's status to read "official",
1. Root your device (I prefer Chainfire autoroot)
2.a) Run triangle away, reset your bin (flash) counter. Now your bootloader will say 0 counts.
2.b) As for the device status (in about device), there's a button just under "reset" in triangle away application, tap it and reboot. Your device status will now be "official"
3. (Optional) Go to your Superuser application, tap cleanup and unroot (if available)
Now you're unrooted, and running official firmware. You can use OTA anytime.
