[Q] Rooted Infuse but cannot rename recovery in system/bin??? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Okay... Long story short, I have an Infuse, which I flashed with the Gingerbread 2.3.5 leak using Odin this weekend (It was rooted and all was well before) I couldn't get my email to work correctlry, so like I dumb-a** I continued monkeying with it until I bricked it. (Insert laughter here)
After an hour or two, I was finally able to get it back into download mode and used GTG's Ultimate Unbrick to help my phone back to life. Link here for whoever needs it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251
When it was all said and done, the phone was a F/W version 2.2.1 BB ver. I997UCKD5 kernel 2.6.32.9 FROYO.UCKD5 build. (At least it sort of worked. Most apps fail and cause a force quit prompt. Google Talk authentication fails and I cannot reliably download any apps from the market)
I had a heck of a time getting it to root, but was able to do so. SU installed and binary updated to 3.0. I load up root explorer and go to /system/bin to replace the recovery file and have have hit a snag that I just can't get past. I changed the directory permissions to R/W and can rename the file, but every time I do so, if I leave the directory to copy the replacement recovery file, the file reverts back to it's original name. I have also tried just simply deleting it, which shows a confirmation message that it has been deleted, but when I go out of the directory and back in, it's there again. I have also just tried overwriting it or changing the file permissions to no avail. I'm totally perplexed.
I have tried using Odin to re-flash the Gingerbread, the Stock ROM, and the "unbrick" files again, just to get me to a different point, but they all fail in the partitioning phase or partially through the FS check.
Any thoughts? (I've been at this for a few days now and am ready to just start fresh with a new infuse, keeping this one as a test unit. LOL)
I'm looking spcifically for help getting this phone into the modified 3e recovery mode, so I can load new roms from the phone, or maybe a different ROM that I can load with Odin to make it work properly again...
Thank you very much in advance.

Odin id notoriously unreliable. Especially on the infuse. Use heimdall to unbrick. Adam outlet posted a one click heimdall but locked the thread because it had issues on windows XP. But I would get the full version of heimdall and use it to flash the community kernel. voodoo kernels will root you on first boot as well as have cwm baked in. why people are still rooting and using green cwm after pushing a modded recovery file I'll never understand.

After Odin did you factory reset from the settings? If not yeah you'll get gtalk authentication fail (happened to me many times before ) , if you haven't done it I would suggest before you root / using different Rom on your phone, you should considered doing it.

Need to install latest version of busybox to get root explorer to work properly....
You can download busybox installer from the market...
Sent from my Samsung Infuse 4G - 1.6ghz

A BIG thanks goes out to both of you! no, I had not done a factory reset. once I did so all the apps started working again.
also I verified my busybox version and found out I was a couple behind thanks for that hint.
it also turned out that my root explorer needed to be updated as well. Once I got everything working it took the 3e recovery without a hitch.
thanks again for your reply!

Also, before editing anything in /system/, you need to remount the whole partition r/w.

Captivate doesn't Work.

So I powered the phone down for class, and when I turned it back on three hours later, it hung at the boot animation, and then eventually just went to a black screen. Battery is at 100%, I had it charged that morning. Is there any way to fix my phone?
Need a little more info from you. Did you root, install any lag fixes, did you make a nandroid backup? One way that's sure to fix it is the Odin One Click Downloader listed in the development section of the Captivate forums, its always worked for me, but if you didn't have a backup it will wipe your settings and info and you'll be starting from scratch.
I was rooted, I was in the process of the 'one-step lag fix' when I realized busybox was giving me an error. It was version 1.18.1 instead of 1.17.1. So I went back to the recovery menu thing and reinstalled packages.
I have no clue what Nandroid is honestly. I'll look into Odin, but is there a Mac version?
As far as I know there isn't a Mac version of Odin yet....once you root download Rom Manager from the market place and then have it install the Clockwork Mod Recovery image, once thats done if your rom is stable use Backup current rom. I'd check if theres a wiki for Mac users, I use windows so I have no clue. I know you can download a new version of busybox installer from the market that lets you choose which version of busybox to install now. The ext2 lag fixes are pretty unstable and have caused some headaches (worked fine for me, but I still reverted back to normal). I'll post back later if I figure out a way for you to return to stock with a mac, but you might be able to just flash one of the stock roms through rom manager now after you change its name to update.zip, or flash one of the new roms that root for you (I've had pretty good luck with those so far).
Captivate doesnt work
I don't know if we have the same problem, but i got stuck on that black screen and wont boot up. I was able to recover it by doing that one click root for samsung captivate. (check it out on one of the threads) Just run the one click root/unroot it doesnt matter. Now when you're on the phone recovery screen instead of clicking "reinstall something" go to delete data, click it. as well as delete cache. then go up to do a reboot. Thats it, Worked for me hope it works for you!
p.s. Don't know if you can do it on a mac though, or you can always borrow a friends pc.

I'm gonna try the delete cache/data.
You're most likely going to have to do an Odin flash.
If you are doing the ext2 fix, and busybox throws you an error, there are instructions that say run Remove to back off and fix busybox before rebooting, or this happens.
does anyone know exactly what the 'delete all user data' does?
Does it just delete downloaded apps and your contacts and music and stuff? Or will it like completely destroy my phone?
The only way to completely destroy your phone, is with physical violence, immolation, etc.
so it just goes back to a stock ROM without downloaded apps/root/whatnot?

Odin will return the phone to an out of the box state, delete all user info will just remove you settings and personal info. I've read in other forums that you don't even need to download drivers to get your phone connected to a Mac, have you gone into settings>applications>development and enabled usb debugging? Try that and then plug your phones usb cable in. The Odin One Click Downloader thread also says you don't need drivers for Mac. I asked in the wiki thread for someone to post some info for Mac users, maybe it'll help.
EDIT: Also I know its a pain but you can get Astro File Manager from the market (free) and go into Preferences and enable browser download, then just download the update.zip on your phone and move it around and rename it with Root Explorer (a paid app but worth the money) that should let you flash roms and so on from your own phone after rooting of course.

[Q] Root after official att froyo upgrade?

I recently upgraded my captivate with the official att/samsung froyo release. So far it seems to have made my phone worse. It's slower, and freezes periodically. I was wondering if it's possible to root after the official upgrade or is this blocked. Hoping I can root and flash new kernel and get better performance. This droid world is new to me, so any assistance would be appreciated, especially if it's written for a novice.
Btw, I've done 2 master resets hoping it would help, and it didn't.
Here is how to install AT&T's official 2.2 Froyo ROM with all of the suckiness removed and a bunch of awsomeness added.
1. Download this. Rename it update.zip and copy it to sd_card, the the phone's internal memory, not the removable micro sd card.

2. Download this, and copy it to sd_card.

3. Use this tool to flash back to 2.1 (don't master clear)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
4. Remove battery, hold vol up + vol down + power and reinsert battery. Phone will boot into recovery mode.
5. In recovery select "reinstal packages". Then reboot
6. If phone reboots back into a the same recovery, repeat 5
7. Phone should boot into a custom recovery.
8. Select install zip -> choose zip -> Cognitionv4.3.1.zip -> install

Dont you think you should have told the op that those are directions for flashing Cognition 4.3.1?? What if he doesn't want to flash a rom, just a kernel?
OP: Download Superclick v1.7. It will root your phone. From there, search Development threads for a kernel.

this is horrible advice for someone running 2.2. 2.2 brought 3e recovery which does not allow flashing 'update.zip' any more.
all the OP was looking for was how to root.
SuperOneClick 1.7 will take care of that in the RAGE method....

Thanks for the Rage part. Keep forgetting that, even when I use it on my phone.
So I tried superclick 1.7 and had no luck. It would say waiting for device, I'd plug in. my phone and then would say it was running, but nothing happened. Tried with debugging on and off. Any advice? Also can you direct me where to get superclick. I'm worried that the site I got it from may be malicious. Also I'm running windows 7, just in case that makes a difference.

make sure you have the drivers installed for you phone, and you have USB debugging ON....it has to be on in order for it to work
Thank you Pirateghost. Got it rooted.
Considering I know very little about all this, is there somewhere you can to direct me to get easy, step by step, directions on how to load a new rom on my phone? I got it rooted using superoneclick v1.7, loaded titanium back up and rom manager. I'm using one click lag fix, although it seems many feel that it's not good. I was thinking of going with cog4. Any suggestions? Your awesome, thanks.

Flashing a rom is quite simple. Obviously I'm going to be biased and suggest Andromeda3 as the recommended ROM, since I put so much time into that rom. Check out the guides and tutorials found in Q&A and development

Most all of the roms here have flashing instructions on page 1 of that thread.
And back up before you start. You can never back up too much.
Sorry about my stupidity, but people keep mentioning 3e recovery being an issue for me since I have froyo. Will odin take care of this? Also does this whole process take me back to eclair or will it still be froyo. It seems the more questions and information, the more this process its intimidating me. Just don't want to ruin my phone

yes odin will fix this in about 5 seconds or less!
before you start disable lagfix! this is important! but speed mod may just work be cause it has similar lagfix options available in the kernel. still wouldn't try it though.
recovery is part of the kernel. grab a kernel in .tar format. speedmod is great for this
open odin (not one click but full version) put .tar of kernel in pda slot
put phone in download mode (if 3 button is broke you may want to flash back to 2.1 with 3 button fix or another rom with 3-button fix via odin) you can access download mode via use of adb in the mean time.
plug in phone, make sure auto reboot is selected and reformat is not selected.
the left most box in odin should turn yellow. hit start. it takes about 3 seconds. phone will reboot with new kernel all data will be intact.
at that point you can enter recovery mode which will be cwm. you can root from cwm or install a rooted rom that will include another kernel.
kernel flashing doesn't effect data or settings or version number but kernel need to be same android version, eclair rom needs eclair kernel, froyo needs froyo ect. but a 2.2 rom can run 2.2.1 kernel and vice versa. same goes with 2.3 and 2.3.3 ect. also samsung tw roms need tw kernels, sense roms need sense kernels and aosp roms need aosp kernels. and of cource the kernel should be for you phone.
Speedmod is an i9000 kernel, if you want to just root and use stock froyo you will have to flash am I9000 modem.bin or there will be sound issues...
Use the 3e recovery push. Had to use on Vibrant.

true but you can flash a different kernel afterwards.
if the op want to read all about fixing 3e recovery with adb or other method fine. but a kernel swap is quick and easy.

I agree, just informing in case he stuck with a captivate modem with that kernel and couldn't understand the issues he was having.
so i did this, and on odin it says it passed and that it was successful, but when i check my kernel, it doesn't say speedmod. it's just the same stock kernel. I don't have kies, I have kies mini. Don't know if that's the prob. I'm in the US and I didn't think you could get the full kies. My drivers said there was an error, saying the I9000 drivers didn't work. I downloaded the kernel version specific for the ATT captivate sgh-1897. I downloaded the odin version, not the cwm version because that is what the instructions on the tourist in paradise site said to do. what now? I honestly think all I need is the kernel. I'm just looking to make my phone run faster and try to get the most out of my battery.. speedmod kernel seems right up my ally. I don't think I even need to mess with a ROM. So will this not work with kies mini? any help is appreciated

speedmod might not change the kernel version in about phone, some devs do not change that.
use the 3 button combo to get into recovery mode, does it boot into cwm with green text? if it did you are running speedmod.
also when phone boots it will say sgh-i897 on a black splash screen after the att param.ifs splash screen
if you still have blue samsung 3e recovery and no black galaxy s splash screen there was a problem.
So I do get a different screen when phone fires up. It does say sgh-1897 which is different than before, I can't seen to get the 3 button recovery thing to happen though. Hope it's right, just thought my phone would be faster. Seemed faster with oneclick lag fix. Guess I'm crazy. The phone does seem louder when it fires up, which I read this kernel helps make happen. Is there another way to get to recovery to see if the 3e issue is fixed. If so is there another kernel that would be faster for me or do I need to do the ROM thing next. Also, since I didn't think this worked I tried to install oneclick lag fix again, but couldn't because there wasn't enough space.does this mean speed mod went through. I also did the speed mod flash like 3 times thinking that it wasn't working. is that as problem? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just new to all this and I don't have much computer savy either. Thanks for putting up with me.
ok so you do have speedmod.
for recovery, with phone off, press volume+volume for 2 seconds
continue to hold volume and press power, holding all three till the first splash screen pops up then release.
first decide if you want to keep speedmod, you can root in recovery and flash to a different kernel after, can also flash a new rom now.
speedmod is an i9000 port. it may not work perfect with the kb1 modem. if you flash kc1 modem it will not work with bluetooth calling. i use it as a tool to flash other roms, to root, and to flash other kernels and not deal with 3e, that is the point of me suggesting it. but giving up bluetooth calling isn't a big sacrifice to some people and many do use it like you are.
now if you want speedmod and lagfix you can do that in recovery, speedmod has a universal lagfix. disable this before flashing a voodoo kernel (or stock) if you change it later.
the lagfix has the options to set data, dbdata, or cache to ext2,ext3,ext4,ext4 non journalling, or jfs
it can also set /system to ext4
voodoo settings are /system=ext4
/cache=ext4nj
/data=ext4
/dbdata=ext4
these are the most common settings and are very successfull.
feel free to pm me with questions, rom recomendation, ect...
edit, just noticed you already have root via rageagaintthecage method via superoneclick, i always forget about that on the sgs though i have done it on an evo the hard way a while back, now we have superoneclick so it's not hard anymore. you can install a market app called sgs kernel flash and experiment with kernels that way. prolly what i'd have told you if i read the whole thread.

Stock 2.2

OK fellas, I have a brand new Captivate. Build is 1102. The phone shipped with 2.2. I bricked the first one so bad I had no choice but to replace it. The second one was almost to that point before I got Odin 3-click to get back to stock 2.1 update 1. Now I'm trying to get back to stock 2.2 and I can't seem to find anything relating on how to do that from my situation. I have literally been up for 38 hours working on this. Took me the first 24 just to get 2.1 on it. I am really stuck here. If anyone has a tool, or a guide, or a hint or a .9mm that can get 2.2 on my phone, please throw me a freaking bone...
Thanks in advance
up for 36 hours isnt going to help.
go get some sleep. come back later.
wait...
you are on your 3rd cappy and still dont know what to do?
Wait so it came with 2.2 you used odin to go to 2.1 and now you wanna go back to where you started?
Ummm ... have you tried kies mini?
When I couldn't use Kies Mini to update my phone from Eclair, I used ODIN 3 (not one click) to upgrade to Froyo - using the image found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11526718&postcount=1
My build is 1011

Im on my second Captivate. I was actually able to bring it back from brick by building a jig.
@studacris::: It came with 2.2, i flashed a custom rom which was giving me problems, tried flashing back and it failed leaving me with a brick. Built a jig and flashed odin 3-click which put 2.1 on it. I tried to use mini kies but it says my phones firmware is unregistered and will not let me update it...

turn on usb debugging before you connect it to kies
i have not tried the following link but I saved the file just in case I needed it. According to the post that I download the file from, it said its supposed to take you back to JI6:
download here
just be careful because I did not test this file myself
Use the jf6(2.1) odin one click and then there is a file you can use in the odin standalone to get you to kb1(2.2).

Please push *2767*4387264636# or download SGS Tools and select the second option in the Secret Codes section. This will output your product code. If it says anything other than SGH-I897ZKAATT, your product code has probably been tainted, which causes the Kies "unregistered device" error.
The reason this always happened for me is that the product code was changed by the custom ROM. If you do not have a backup of your EFS partition, then correcting this will require a hex editor. I used the method described here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880223 . Messing around with EFS is inadvisable unless you know perfectly what you are doing. (Trust me on this as Sammy has my first phone for this reason alone.) It wont hurt anything to have an incorrect product code, aside from not being able to update to new software through Kies, but if you mess up anything inside of the file that is edited during the process in the forum link listed above, your radio firmware won't know what its own IMEI is. This can cause your phone to stop functioning as a phone.
The first thing that you should do before flashing any ROM is to backup EFS. There is a method for that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859914 . I backed up EFS using every backup method described there (there are two or three I think), then I copied those backups to every thumb drive and storage device I have. I always have restored using the "tarball" method and have used Kies to get back to 2.2 about 20 times without the "unregistered device" issue.
So the most important question is - Do you have a backup of your EFS? (please say yes) If so, then it is just as simple as restoring EFS.
Another possibility if your redneck.nerdishness extends to Linux usage is to use Heimdall for your Froyo upgrade. I used that on my phone when Kies mini was failing on me. Search for Heimdall in the Captivate and standard Galaxy S forums, then follow the instructions to use it with the stock update.zip file linked in the forums.

Q/A for someone who has some time...

Heres the dealio- I have a Charge I want to root and put a custom rom on. I have done this before, with my Inc and my Archos tablet so I'm not a complete idiot.
I did use Odin and thought everything went fine, followed directions to install a zip from the card but the recovery menu never gave me that option. I am unable to get to the sdcard from the recovery menu. I got the option to install the update.zip but thats all. (I followed one of the many thousand "how to root your charge" threads)
Can someone tell me what happened?
Also, the first time I tried to do it, I realized I didn't have the right file, so I pulled the plug on my Charge while in Odin, also because it kept looping. Now Windows XP on that machine won't recognize the phone anymore.
Anyone have any ideas on that?
One more, I read that you need to downgrade the EE4 in order to root? Is that why recovery didn't work the first time, because I have the EE4? (I did see that info AFTER I installed the recovery)
I've been over these threads hundreds of times but I just don't have alot of time and there is alot of redundant information that makes it hard to get anywhere so I'd appreciate if someone could help me out.

1) don't choose the option to select 'update.zip', that option doesn't work on the Charge... also it sounds like you were in the stock recover, you do flashing/wiping in ClockWorkMod recovery (CWM)
2) NEVER pull the cord out during an Odin flash unless its been like 30+ minutes and it looks like it froze or nothings happening, this is probably why your phone can't be recognized now (that is a good way to brick your phone and it sounds like you've got one)... now you will need to get the phone into download mode (if it still will) and flash the stock EE4 rom with the Charge PIT file (can't link from phone but these are in the How To Fix Your Phone sticky in Development) and start over
3) I don't quite understand your last question but no you don't need to be on EE4 to root and you can put CWM on any rom with Odin, EE4 at this point is mostly a 'return to stock' rom
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
The phone seems to be working fine, but maybe that is why I was in stock recovery mode, because it looks fine, but won't download now. Because I just tried to install a rom and I get an error. I had tried to install CWM, and thought thats what I was going to when I ended up in the stock recovery. I will try the Charge PIT file that you mentioned and see if that fixes anything, and then start over from there. If not I may be returning the phone since it's fairly new.
Thanks for your time

when using the pit file be sure to have the repartition box checked in Odin
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
I don't have a PIT option on my Odin, or a repartition. It's version 4.13...is there a better version of Odin to work with and stick with? I'm working with 3 different computers here, so I know I have an Odin at home that was working but this one doesn't seem to connect. It's easier to troubleshoot whats going wrong if the proggies I'm using are at least a consistent version number. I DO know I had PIT on the Odin at home but version I'm using (at work) doesn't have it.

You need Odin3 1.82 (not just plain Odin). You can get it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160580
Thanks for the help guys. I got everything back to normal. Drivers and sdcard working properly now. Rooted. Now I just need to get Clockwork back on, and a different rom. Anyone have any fav roms so far? Would love some input on what everyone sees with the different radio builds.
If anyone can answer this, can we get mobile hotspot working on this? Thats a big part of why I need to root and rom this thing.

Everyone will have an opinion on ROM's and radios. My setup is in my sig. As for hotspot, android-wifi-tether works fine on all rooted roms. I've found 3.0pre12 to work the best. 3.1beta6 requires a reboot to get wifi working normally after tethering, but I don't have that issue on 3.0pre12. Be sure to immediately reboot after you install it, and then go in and set your phone type to Samsung Fascinate, and you should be good to go.

[Q] Infuse ClockWorkMod fail?

Hi, i`ve owned an infuse for a couple months now and i`m loving it. I bought it off somebody and it came pre-rooted. Superuser was working great, i was running rooted apps and everything was pretty awesome. However, i`ve just recently wanted to try something new. Such as flashing a new rom. I downloaded the zeus rom (i also have others), went into rom manager and tried to install. That didn`t work. So i tried to manually boot into clockworkmod recovery and install. That didn`t work. I think the main problem is how do i get into clockworkrecovery? Whenever i boot into it i lack very many options that i keep seeing from others. Everytime i try to boot into it it says
Copying media files
Successfully copied meida files
Manual Mode
Appling Multi-CSC
Installing Multi-CSC
can't access to system/csc/RWC/system/
Successfully applied multi-csc
and the options are
Android system recovery <3e>
Samsung Recovery Utils for BML
Enter: Power Key, Select: vol up/ vol down
reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Everytime i try to apply update from sdcard it says:
Failed to verify whole-file signature
Installation aborted.
I can't remember all of it but you get the just of the idea
I can't seem to figure this out and i dont think this is clockwordrecovery. I've tried various methods of rebooting using the CWM app, Rom Manager app, and the button pressing.
All i want to do is flash a new rom! Can anyone help?
P.S. It isn't a typo when i put "Successfully copied meida files", they actually spelt it meida.

You don't have cwm recovery yet.
Don't use ROM manager.
I made a thread on "how to." It's a collection of some things I've learned.
Start there.
The link is on my signature line
So where should i start? At the flashing part?

yes..follow gtg's CWM instruction set
So. I already started with the odin UCKD5 one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092021
and i already started into download mode. However, it now says downloading. and my computer was like "installing new hardware" then "could not install new hardware" and now my phone is stuck in the downloading screen that says do not turn off target. Odin has yet to pick up my phone....what now?
if you have root you can flash a cwm enabled kernel with sgs kernel flasher.
if you have froyo use the defuse or community kernel. or use gtgs thread for cwm without flashing a kernel.
if you have gingerbread then you will need to flash one of the custom kernels such as entropy dd, hellraiser, or infusion. gtgs cwm thread will not work on gingerbread.
My phone is rooted and running on gingerbread. But um. i have a more pressing concern at the moment....this downloading screen is freaking me out...
okay well i can't seem to figure any of this stuff out. any noone has replied so i just reset my phone so i can actually use it.
Some more information for those who can help is that the firmware is 2.3.3
Baseband version is I997RUXKG3
Kernel version
2.6.35.7-I997RUXKG3-CL366622
Build number
Gingerbread.uxkg3

that's Rogers firmware. use kernel flasher (easiest) and flash one of the popular gingerbread kernels. entropy dd is popular. once the kernel is on there You will have red cwm. that will allow you to flash whatever.
if you flash a rom it will include a kernel so don't worry about the minor incompatibilities that exist with att based roms.
So i'm currently on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212795
with this in the other tab
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289460
I'm not sure which kernel to download. But i'll try flashing a couple anyway
also i tried using heimdall/odin or whatever. It wouldn't pick up my phone in download mode. and thus couldn't install drivers.
well. I tried flashing one of the kernels. specifically
DD_02162012_A.zip - [Click for QR Code] (5.16 MB, 118 views)
So i flashed it using SGS kernel flasher. it said flashing....rebooting. And now it's stuck at the rogers logo. I have no clue what to do and i think it might be bricked. So if i could get someones help, perhaps step-by-step as i obviously cannot do this following the other instructions.

You are stuck in bootloop. Not bricked or even close to it. Read infused rom and flash it. If you cannot figure that out you should not be flashing. It's dead simple. Promise. Search it. It's in the dev thread. Called infused by gtg

thanks for the help so far. but i went here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251
and the link no longer works. so what now. I can't get the files and therefore can't put anything into odin.
sigh. so i downloaded the files from someone who uploaded it again. Did everything. Succesful. only to have it be stuck in bootloop and samsung screen. Did what it said. pulled battery, replace, vol buttons and power key until recovery shows up. That doesn't happen. Instead i notice that instead of a rogers screen it says at&t and then goes to samsung screen. and then restarts again by going back to at&t. If i let go of the buttons it goes back to begin stuck at the samsung one. This has made so many problems for me.... just by trying to get clockworkmod. what do i do now?

Xparks,
You really should read up a bit. If you looked toward the end of that thread,
you will see that the file has been uploaded by another user to another site:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251&page=40
i got that one already. i've passed that step. I'm now stuck in bootloop with at&t and samsung logo. Bootloop was supposed to be a rare occurence...and the instructions to work around it aren't working right now. I can't access recovery mode. Or anything for that matter.

Download the drivers for the phone on the computer. If it does not work then, try heimdale. If you can not do this, then just ask me for the jtag guy, ill give you the link to the website. Mobiletechvideos uses jtag to recover the phone (taking it apart, hooking it up with a ton of wires lol). Keeps personal data, just recovers rom, or you can pay a little extra for him just to install whatever rom. It worked for me, you may have a broken usb controller like me all of a sudden.
I have kies but when i start it up it says please connect your mobile phone. And it doesn't pick up my phone. It probably shouldn't seeing how my phone is stuck. But i went to menu in kies and pressed install driver. But i'm not sure how to download my exact driver if kies can't even pick up my phone. But i ran the "zazig" program. and i'm installing the drivers from there. And i'm going to attempt to reflash using that since Odin didnt work before. The link is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331381
And it did that. But i don't what to do. I've been on xda reading forums all day and the only thread i can see relevent to mine is someone advising them to bring it back under warranty. Mines rooted. no warranty for me. I hope if it ever works again i can use it on rogers still because it says AT&T.....and i'm afraid to try and unlock it. because we know the last time i tried to do something.....
Odin can still detect it and i tried reflashing the unbrick stuff. No dice.
