Touchpad Skinning job - Skinned my touchpad and you can too! - TouchPad Accessories

Thought I would post up pictures of my skinned Touchpad.
I skinned it myself using Drawer liner (Contact paper/contact vinyl). Dollar Store!
Other than that. Use some scissors and Xacto knife.
I made a post about how to on my blog a while ago.

Enjoy!

I hand cut out all of the ports, being very careful not to scratch or damage the Touchpad. Looks nice eh?

lol ive seen that drawer liner pattern before excellent use of an abstract resource!
i also like the great job you did on the corners, looks really smooth

Don't worry boys, I did my fiance's TP in a wood Vinyl. You can get this stuff at the Dollar store and I find it does a better job than most of the other commercial options. The Vinyl is many times marked as 3M. Guys, we are royally getting ripped when it comes to the Vinyl (unless its Di-Noc).

I really like the Stainless steel look, but might that affect WiFi signal, Bluetooth or the touchstone charging?

Not much for that design, but love the idea!

yes most likely if it made out of some type of metal. the charging dock uses a electromagnetic field to charge. on that note you do not want to put anything metal inbetween your touchpad and touchstone it will get really hot and cause problems

Any touchpad cut template you figured out?

Sorry for the Delay in getting back to you all.
I JUST GOT ENGAGED!!!!!!!!! and it was my birthday yesterday.
Anyways, I am working on a pattern for people to DIY it easier. I will try to verctorize it in inkscape so those with laser cutters (evil grin) can get perfect results. The pattern wouldn't take longer than a couple of minutes on a laser cutter tops.

Congrats on the engagement. Used to have access to all kinds of cool cut machines at a previous employer. At least I still have plenty of xacto and mat blades. Picked up a roll of the woodgrain. Figured, "why not?" Uninterested in the $30 skins, even if they look a bit cooler.

Congratulations on both counts!!!

Just tried what the OP suggested. But I went with a clear/mat finish contact paper. None of the patterns work for me so went for clear came out nice will post pics tomorrow. I took me less then 3 mins complete the task (stuck it on used black marker to mark where to cut, then lift edges cut and stick back on and used a heat source near corners to smooth if out). I did not go all the way around to the front edge, instead trim it at the back side.
Next one I will remove old one and measure dimensions and make perfect template.
But very happy with results

Got Tired of Waiting on the Car Dock...

so I made my own...
My 1990 Jetta finally has navigation!
***REQUESTED HOW-TO***
First I make a car-specific mounting bracket (sorry, neglected to take many pics of this process):
Then I make the phone specific cradle:
Very cool man... what wallpaper is that?
Nice mod man. How did you make it? Can you post a little tutorial and can you make it rotate 90 degrees?

It is the Earth Live Wallpaper found on the market or at this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623654 He just set the globe size pretty high so it zooms in I think.
Actually, the background was the World Tour app, but the one you guys mentioned is even cooler; just added it.
Sure, I can post up some of the "in process" pics for ya.
It doesn't rotate right now, as I never felt a reason for that, but if I were to source a hinge that rotates 90 degrees, it would. Thinking of that, I had a phone holster a few years ago that did that...
I'll post up those pics here in a few...
Velcro just in case eh? I really need to make one of these.
Dual lock.
Nice job! Looks like that will do the car dock nicely
Car dock spotted in this video at 1:10. http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2010/02/10/google-nexus-one-car-kit-on-show/

Simple enough.
But what did you use for the backing? Is that aluminum? Cause it looks like you bent it fairly easy with the pliers.

Both the mounting bracket, and the phone cradle are made out of sheet aluminum; the mounting bracket is approximately 2mm thick, while the phone cradle is approximately 1mm thick.
The aluminum is strong enough to retain its shape, but flexible enough to allow the phone to slip in and out of the cradle and hold it there for years - I've used this method for five years now.
You add an external speaker and charging capabilities and you get the money I was going to give Google.
Really though... good job, very clever. I do wish that Google would hurry with theirs....
This is the one I'm using: Bracketron PHV-200-BL
http://www.amazon.com/Bracketron-PH...e-Holder/dp/B0014S5FVQ/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_1
Target has this one for $19.99. When I bought it from Amazon a month ago it was $12. It's $13.88 now. So far, it works really well and I'm really happy with it....until the official dock comes along. It's made mostly for regular GPS's but works with the Nexus One just fine without an issue.
EDIT: Just saw they have the PHV-202-BL for $5.73 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B2PPYC/ref=oss_product
This is hardcore.

Bluetooth is my external speaker, and the car charger provides my charging capabilities. You'll notice in the initial design pics, I blocked off the areas surrounding the phone that would cover a control button, or socket. I do that so I can still use the phone when it's in the cradle.
Thanks for the compliments.

[MOD] Silver Ear Piece On Phone!!!

First off, this is a physical mod!!! you do this at your own risk!!!
Second, i seen this mod in the captivate section of xda and i cant find the OP so that i can give the guys credit, but credit goes to him for doing this to his captivate!!!
after i seen the thread about this i noticed that my friend, who has a captivate, had a chip in the ear piece and it was silver with black paint on top of it. after seeing this he said "Take it off!" and so i did...after doing it i seen it looked rather cool so i took a knife and started scratching the black paint off of mine. i think it looks good and gives it kind of an accent from all the black on the phone. If you decide to do this to your phone, please be careful when doing it and take your time. you dont wanna take this piece out or make it sharp and end up cutting your ear 1 day when you answer your phone, so again, please be careful when doing this mod!!!

Just did this, and I must say, it looks amazingly awesome. It also kinda smoothed the face down, making it seem more slick.

good...im glad you like it as much as i do...just gotta be gentle with it while doing it!
btw...i love your avatar!!! roy mustang ftw!
This reminds me of what I did with my iPod. I took a fine grain sandpaper and sanded the back of my iPod. Looks great now. Unorthodox mod to what we normally see but I dig it Tator, thanks.
What exactly do you do, just scratch off the paint there? Sand it?
I've also been wondering, on older phones you could use a sugar block and scratch off logos like the us cellular or samsung logo. Can we do that?
Sent from my MIUI SCH-i500
I just taped off around ithe speaker grate and used my pocket knife's small blade and she's silver and no scratches. keep in mind I keep my knife extremely sharp and was very very very gentle. It took about 5-10 minutes. Thanks tator. Kinda like the new look.
Edit, Also once you scratch most of it off. an damp alcohol pad seems to remove the remnants really well
Edit: OK so this is how I did it and have no scratches what so ever.
I taped the phone to my desk at work. then taped around the speaker.
Used a Knife to gently scratch off as much of the paint as I could.
Took a toothpick and cut one end as to make a sharp blade on the end and used this to "rub"off the paint down in the crease.
Then wet a q-tip and rubbed the remianng paint of the ear piece.
Hope this helps some that are wondering a way to do this.
I wish I wasn't at work. I would post a pic. Honestly it looks like it was made this way.

you were baked, weren't ya tator?
I can confirm that this can be done with a dime and get a reasonably good result. I didn't have a knife handy but I did have some change so I scraped a dime across it until it turned silver. Looks fine. Not perfect, I will probably touch it up with a knife later, but it isn't bad and it didnt scratch the surrounding area. I wasn't even careful

Cruzerlite Persona's for the One S

So I saw these became available over the weekend and had to order them. I got 3 of them. I got the Black & White Abstract (Inverted), Camo Light Green, and Andy Scratched. As I have said in the past, I had this series on my Gnex and that is why I rushed to get these. Let me say again, not disappointed. Highly detailed, great TPU feel (not plasticy like some would think by the looks) and kickass designs. It doesnt have the volume cut out but as I have said before, I actually am happy it isnt. I dont click them on accident with any of my Cruzer Lite cases on. All other cut outs are perfect. Ive become a pro on putting on these cases. FYI, there is a wrong way to put them on. Start from the top and then the bottom right side and then finish up with the bottom left side. This way, all the cutouts match up 100%. I have a crappy cam in bad lighting so the pics are crap. Im sorry. Check out cruzer lites site or amazon for high res ones.
I thought the Andy Scratched was going to be my fav but once I got the camo one up close and noticed there are Andy's hidden in there, its now my fav.

It feels like the rest of the case. The persona line is just fancy designs. They dont add any different feel.
What's the difference between the 'Persona,' 'A2,' and plain TPU cruzerlite cases?
I like the design of the 'Argyle' type, but if it's not as good quality materials I may opt for another.

Persona is their fancy line with all the different designs, the A2 is what got them famous with the Andy in the case design, which also adds to a better grip I think and the plain is just a plain tpu one with no grip. I have the persona and A2 and I have the A2 on my phone 90% of the time.

Carbon fibre vinyl wrap. (self mod)

The chrome paint had started to chip off on my mates old phone that he was selling so I decided to wrap it with my left over vinyl wrap. All I did is place a big piece of vinyl wrap over the screen, then used a hairdryer to mould it around the corners. I used a blade to cut around the screen and the back of the frame and finally peeled the excess wrap off.
Here are some pics.

Basically what I did was heat the vinyl with a hairdryer, this allows you to stretch the vinyl however you want so you get a wrinkle free finish. Here's a video to show you how it's done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMhvU8Dk3CE&feature=youtube_gdata_player
No it doesn't slip off, it's relatively sticky.

After I saw the custom wood case on the new Moto X I knew that’s exactly what I wanted my S4 to look like. After searching various wood back doors, and all wood and wood-looking cases I finally stumbled upon this beauty. A minimalistic, real wood veneer on a clear plastic “half case” that allows the brushed aluminum to still shine on.
//NUWOODS
Check out their Etsy store here! There’s 17 different wood options to choose from, one is sure to fluff your muffin. And at only $26, it’s an amazing buy. They even have custom engravings as an option.
//MY PHONE
I chose the Aromatic Cedar for two reasons. 1.) It smells amazing. How many people can say that about their phone case? And 2.) because it looks hella sexy on a white phone. It’s got a unsaturated, vintage look to it, it almost looks like there’s a real life Instagram filter on it. Haha.
//TECH SPECS
NFC, S-Beam, and Qi charging all work through this case so that’s a super plus for me. Since this is a half case, there’s no full cutouts just super generous half cutouts that don’t get in the way of plugs or fat fingers. Volume rocker and power button are fully exposed, even the fattest auxiliary cords work in the headphone jack and well, USB cords have never been a problem and still aren’t. I also have a 9H .4mm thick tempered glass screen protector that fits like a glove. No problems.
A note on the Qi, I don’t have the official Samsung back plate I have a receiver that fits inside the OEM case. It does add a slight bulge to the wood case. I’m not sure how the receiver back plate would fit.
That goes to show you, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Because I think that thing is hideous.
Saw that case in virgin megastore...

I'm thinking the majority of folks here aren't too fond of this case, haha. I guess it's just me. It does do well with the ladies. And was the best case out of the 9 I bought that went with my Tycho/ISO50 inspired theme.

Wow, if you don't like it, you don't like it. You don't have to be rude about it.

I like the wood (bambo would be sick tho or even something rare) but certainly not the plastic which looks cheap
Meh.. its OK.. everyone has their own taste.
I certainly love the satin silver Spigen Neo Hybrid better. Goes along great with my "ricing"
Is it a custom case? The half wooden case looks a little wield...

yeah dude that theme is pretty slick, can you give more info as to what ROM you are using? or how did you get that theme on there?
Not sure what they're using, but something like that can easily be done with buzz launcher and the right combination of widgets.
Give me a sec. I'll break it down with links when I get into the office.

The Neo Hybrid? Oh yeah, our tastes definitely differ. To each their own though man! I think that theme would look sick with my black Verus Oneye case.

I actually prefer this one but can't imagine buying it unless there were a massive sale.
Can't imagine R4ANDR01D hadn't looked at it already and dismissed it, perhaps because of the lack of protection on the sides.
