[Q] How to backup stock recovery?

Hi,
I want to root my Mate7 but I am not comfortable with messing with recovery. What is the way to backup stock recovery so I can put it back with fastboot flash recovery after rooting is done?
Thanks.
Hi xtonda - the package going around for unlocking/rooting the Mate7 currently that contains the recovery_b60.img also contains a copy of the stock recovery.
If you follow any of the guides available (off hand I can remember http://mate7.net/ascend-mate7-bootloader-unlock/ from the other day, but plenty guides available on XDA and elsewhere) the tools/driver package includes the stock recovery.
Flashing the stock is done in exactly the same way as flashing the CWM, just with the different file.
So you'd unlock, flash CWM, root the device, then flash the stock recovery again
Cheers - hope that helps!
Hi, I found two guides to root Mate7 here and each has own package with CWM recovery and some original recovery. However these original recoveries are not the same so I am not convinced that they are exactly the same as the one in my device (obviously at least one of them is not) since there are several Mate7 variants and ROM version and is unknown where these "original" recovery images come from. That is why I want to download original recovery from my device and flash it back after rooting.
Or to boot CWM recovery only temporarily without flashing it, I found that it should be possible using "fastboot boot" command. Is that possible?

[Completed] Will unroot restore bloatware on LG G2?

I rooted my Android device a couple of weeks ago (LG G2). Now I want to unroot it and factory reset it. Will that restore the bloatware I deleted? In case not, how can I restore them?
Hello,
No, unrooting and factory resetting won't restore your deleted bloatware. If you have custom recovery and you made a nandroid backup of your stock ROM then you can go to recovery and restore it. If you don't have custom recovery and a stock nandroid then you have a couple of options after unrooting.
1) You can reflash your stock firmware via PC and whatever flashtool your device uses.
2) You can extract the deleted apps from your stock firmware and adb sideload the apps or just put the apps on your sd card and manually reinstall them.
For help with how to do these you can post your questions in the forum linked below.

[Completed] How to repair Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus?

I have Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus from past 2 months(my 4months savings). I wanted my phone to have Android 'L' so i searched in google but couldn't find any. But found some custom rom of cyanogenmod cm11 of elephone. Installed it using TWRP v2.8.2.0 as shown in tutorials with all the adequate software to be install for my laptop. After intalling cm11, Android version got upgraded from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4. I was happy and exited for some period. after few days felt the earlier os was better as it had video recording and FM player. so wiped the phone to install stock rom of Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus but couldn't as the error occurs shows as mentioned below:
E : Unable to mount ' /system'
Please Help........
Hello,
Welcome to XDA.
When you flashed TWRP did you make a nandroid backup of your stock ROM in TWRP? Making backups in custom recovery is the most valuable part of having custom Recovery. If you did make the backup of stock then all you need to do is select the restore option in TWRP and restore your nandroid and you should be fixed.
If you didn't make the backup then you'll have to download your stock firmware and flash it via PC and your device's compatible flashtool.
you should find what you need in the thread linked below in post #3.

Trying to find the ROM I used from last year

Hi Guys,
I had a 6.0.1 MM custom ROM (found here in the ROM section) installed on my Galaxy S7 SM-930F last year. I made a TWRP backup prior to upgrading to Nougat however stupid me I have forgotten a folder to manually back up when I was on MM. I've tried to downgrade and restore using TWRP to no avail.. it would say the restore is complete and stay stuck on the Samsung logo. My nanadroid backup ends with G930FXXU1APGH so I searching the ROM section of XDA forum to see if I can go back to what I installed as it appears I have no record of the ROM I downloaded here so I can restore the backup successfully. The backup I am trying to restore is from TWRP 3.0.0 and I am now using a 3.1.1
My questions are:
1.) Do I need to be on the same exact build number of Marshmallow for the TWRP restore to work? (I've tried older/newer TWRP/different build # for Marshmallow)
2.) Is there a best way to find out which custom rom I installed last year (search function?)? All I know is that my backup ends with G930FXXU1APGH so that build # is the only lead I have to search through the forum
3.) Restoring the backup always leads to a stuck Samsung logo. I've tried different TWRP, rooted and gone to Nougat/MM and restoring from there, cleared data/factory settings/cache etc. Any other suggestions?
Thank you for your help.
