Ok....pro-tip for you guys unsure whether the sensation is the right device for you:
I was like you once...not many days ago....constantly on here, waiting for reviews....being very critical of what people had to say about it....then i just figure
Vodafone have a 7 day returns policy.....completely free...as is the insurance (incase you lose it)...so take advantage of it!
I bought mine on Tuesday with the sole purpose of knowing i had a 7 day test phase.
I'm happy with the device, Vodafone have been alright, signal is on par if not better than t-mobile.
I'm not as picky as some people on here that expect 0% lag....guys...it's going to lag for whatever reason at some point. It's not everytime though and tbh...complaining about lag on the sensation is being very anal as it doesn't do it enough to annoy.
The cameras good, Internal memory is more than enough (a big one for people that think it's not good enough, seriously...

After moving what i need to to th SD card with Apps2sd i still have 858mb left of internal memory.....not bad....pretty sure i wont have any problems with a few more apps (or another 200 perhaps)
Anyway, just my opinion on a few things
I am getting the sensation but I am waiting for the sim free handsets to be released. Probably will also have an upgraded roms with few bug fixes when those comes out

Just for info the vodafone handsets in the uk are sim free but do have vodafone branding although it is minimal and until they are unlocked, if ever, then you will be tied to vodafone rom updates.
I've had mine nearly a week and I'm pretty impressed. Admittedly not quite as blown away as I was expecting, but am very satisfied.
I think the build quality is good and I really like the design. I appreciate the slightly longer narrower style; it feels smaller than the HD2 in my hand, and is easier to use one handed.
I am using Launcher Pro (I like the space for extra shortcuts in the dock), which is silky smooth, and goes nicely in combination with the HTC lock screen and HTC notifications bar.
Battery life is pretty good - regularly getting two days, including browsing/gaming/music on the train, and with exchange push enabled.
Have no complaints about signal quality, and GPS fix is very fast (faster that my dedicated car GPS).
The Vodafone branding is minimal, I just hope they are quick in releasing updates when HTC release them.
All in all, very happy with my purchase.

Im still unsure if I buy this or wait for next one.
I really love the new Sense 3.0 but still after watching videos and so on I also want to test it before I buy.
What worries me is the battery life and size of the phone.
Also next phone will be my first HTC.
Im sure that I want one with the new Sense on it.

The size of the phone is nothing to worry about. The new qHD resolution makes the 4.3" screen a LOT nicer in the hand than the old WVGA resolution.
Local seller has phone already, asking 550. Tempted to go ahead and purchase it and unlock it

As to our running tally against the Galaxy S II, the Sensation wins out on resolution, but loses by a big margin when it comes to quality and the sheer feeling of luxury that the GSII provides.

The Techradar review of it concerning its call quality and battery life has made me rather concerned about these as in both cases they are rated by them as below average.
Most the data is sent automatically to the SD card. I didn't need to manually move half of the apps that I normally I do on my desire. Seriously if you're going from desire....It's a huge change when it comes to memory....it feels so liberating not having to delete other apps

Vodafone's website says that their version is GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900/2100. And Bell.ca lists their phones as being "HSPA/UMTS 850/1900/2100 MHz and GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz".
Does this mean that if I get an unlocked Vodafone version that I can use it on Bell Mobility's network?
Hello, I am thinking of buyin one of the two phones. The difference in price is 50$. For such a price buying Desire S is the first option, but I have a some questions:
Can you install custom roms, kernels etc as you can in original Desire?
Why aren't there so many custom roms for the Desire S?
Thank you
Coz its relativly new phone. There is few amazing roms and number of them increase day by day...check dev thread
Desire S BRE!
Definitely worth the buy Desire Saga mainly due to the size of internal memory. Normal Desire has a small internal memory and it is a problem for many users.
So many custom ROM is probably because the developers focused more on other types but that does not mean that there are good developers.
I second this. Desire S over Desire. With it having only recently been easily rooted and s-off'd with the AlphaRevX method, custom roms and kernels are still beginning to appear, but they're definitely coming.
I've just flashed SuperKid's port of Miui 1.7.22 to mine, and whilst it's not perfect, it's still early days. A few weeks and the Desire S will be just as custom rom heavy as any other phone (I should think/hope!)

it is definitely worth the extra 50$
you get 600MB more ROM, 256MB more RAM, faster 3G speed(14.4Mbps),better camera, front facing camera, aluminum unibody,2nd gen processor(less power consumption & less heat),better touch sensor
the only loss is the trackpad & more variety in ROMs
recently alpharevX released a method to software s-off the device
so now you can install custom roms, kernals, recoverys, etc
Well, i agree on one thing - the devolopment on this phone is relatively slow as compared to the incredible s, so if you need ROMs get an IS. Between the desire & desire s, the desire s is the obvious choice, better RAM, more ROM, front camera, and a newer processor, not to mention the awesome unibody design.
Depends what you want to do with it. If you just want to do normal phone stuff, the S (saga) is way better, definitely spend the extra money. If you want to play around immediately, go the normal desire (bravo). There are much more roms, guides, s-off/root methods etc. In fact, if you aren't careful about which saga model you buy, you may not be able to install ANY roms at all yet.
People keep saying in a few weeks it'll take off etc. They've been saying that since May.

Well yeah, for those lucky enough to get s-off. Anyone who bought a new saga in the past 2 weeks won't have s-off though, due to the 1.46 RUU models shipping.

i would buy the desire s. it's much better than the first desire.
Some people do not like the lack of hardware buttons on disire s. But in my experience that the sensor buttons are very convenient. And most importantly - they have no mechanical parts, there is virtually nothing to break.
So I recommend Desire S.
Hello people I am an owner of HTC Desire S and time has come to retire my phone and upgrade.
I am seriously considering getting the ONE S so I have a couple of question that you proud owners of it can probably answer.
1.Should I buy it even if I cant get the version with the S4 chip?
2.What are the major problems you have with the device?
Thanks in advance for you help
I just got my One S like about a week ago and I love the phone.
I have the S4 version and have not tested the S3 version. I would say even the S3 version, it should definitely be faster than the Desire S. While S3 is a little bit old, It maybe hard to tell unless you are extreme power user. I think in day to day use like browser, main interface, etc. the performance should not be much difference. I used to have rezound with the S3 chip and I cannot tell much difference. If you got one of the custom rom, then you would sure get hte best performance.
There is no major problem as far as I can tell. The form factor is really nice, so slim, yep hard to image after seeing so many htc phones are so bulky.
Don't get it if you can't get the s4 IMO. There are barely any devs for s3. You are paying the same price as s4 owner and getting an inferior product. I know s3 is fast but its still not an s4. If you are not planing on rooting your phone and running custom ROMs on it,then I think its OK to get s3.

You should definitely get the s4 model it is faster and you will notice the difference if you go hard on the processor.
Also as the lad said, there aren't that many devs for the s3 model. Meaning that you might not get some of the roms/tweaks availiable for the s4 version.

As another person looking at getting this One S, how can I tell if it has the S4 when I'm in the T-mobile store with it in my hand? What other useful information can you more experienced One S users provide to help me make the best phone choice?
I have read some reviews stating there is a problem with maintaining signal or the phones drains the battery rapidly. What say you?

Speaking as someone who's just come directly from the Desire S I think you'll love it. The screen is so much brighter than the DS, bigger than the DS and it's so fast. The camera is fantastic in out door conditions especially. Some of the photos it takes you would honestly think were taken with a 12mp dedicated camera instead of a phone! Battery life is very good for a dual core phone as well. Lasts me on medium use about 1day 14 hours and 2days if I barely use it. My biggest problem with the device would be the pentile arrangement on the screen. You can see the pixels and the screen is very blueish. That being said after a couple weeks of using it you don't notice that at all and the screen becomes fantastic it's because your coming from a 3.7 inch s-lcd phone to with a very high resolution to a 4.3 inch super amoled display with a fairly good resolution so it takes a while to get used to. Go for it though, you won't be disappointed.
Am also thinking of buying it... Infact, am between 2 phones (htc sensation xe Or the one S)..

One S is better.
1. You won't need to do a battery pull. Ever.
2. Rooting is easy, look at some tutorials in the developer section (DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS IN THAT SECTION!! EVER!)
3. Menu button in built into the software. If you root you can remap any keyto be the menu button.
Hope I helped.

Eh?
It is still far better than a desire S even with the S3/adreno 220 and better than the XE (apart from storage options and you have removable batteries with them), excluding the GPU/CPU:
- far better camera overall, absolutely no contest between them
- way better build/perceived quality and IMO design/looks (subjective this)
- better screen overall (although some might prefer LCD on the XE and DS)
- battery life will still be better anyway
- more RAM
- much better audio
- newer device and will be getting jelly bean officially before the end of the year
- also another wee plus is that you will get more money when you sell the one S rather than the desire S and XE in a few months time or a year in order to fund for a new phone
Only reason to get the DS or XE is for a removable battery and SD slot and perhaps a better developing community (no idea what it is like for them)
Buy it, you won't regret it

Hey man you don't need to worry about the battery. It's fairly simple to root you just need to unlock your boatloader with HTC dev and its easy from there. The recent apps Button can actually be mapped as a menu button! It's an actual stock feature and that's how I have my phone. You press recent apps for menu and hold for recent apps

sorry but where is the model name?
hi everyone!!
I come here to get information about the One S I'm planning to buy one very soon from Virgin Canada.
I'm pretty new to Android (and in general to smartphones) since I owned a Blackberry for 2 years and I switch to Android (Samsung Galaxy Ace II X) ~2 months ago. This is a great phone but sometimes too slow (single CPU). So I'm planning to buy a more powerful cellphone and I thought to the HTC One S. My wife has the One V, I like it even it's not powerful enough for my use.
So here are my questions:
- is there different submodels of the One S? (VilleC ?)
- is Android 4.0.3 the current version of the One S?
- will it get 4.1?
- is it easy to root?
- something I like with my Samsung is the number of "pages" (?) available for icons and widgets (7) and the fact they are cyclic (i.e. can go directly from 7 to 1). My wife One V has only 4 (5?) "pages" and it's not cyclic. What about the One S?
And most important: what are the cons of this phone? For instance on the Galaxy Ace II X, the way the external SD card is mount is a problem, or the fact that some people complain about cuts out while listening music, etc. Is there anything I should know about the One S?
Thank you for your replies.
for instance I just saw some One S have been sold with S3 CPU instead of S4 CPU, is Canada concerned by these models?

No, the s3 model is for the Asian market and is not sold in Canada.
The paging on the home screen is the same as the one v (non cyclic).
The two models are the Asian marketed s3 (1.7ghz dual core) and the international s4 (1.5ghz) and lastly the same as the s4 but only available in Taiwan is an S4 with 64gb of memory.
It is easy to root and there are guides on the one a development forums to help you do that.
Some Canadian carriers have released a jellybean update for the one s while some others have not so you might me on ICS for a bit.
Hope I helped somewhat. Please hit thanks if I did. Have fun if you get a one s

thank you, you answered lots of my questions! I see you have a One S as well, any cons you may think of?
Also, is there any app that could change the paging? Is it what we call a "launcher", like Nova Launcher?
Are you getting it cheap? I would say avoid if you have to sign up to a contract/plan - for sure buy if cheap or 2nd hand!
good points for me are:
Just right screen size - not too big not too small
I can load any ROM from latest JellyBean ( 4.2.2 ) to any of the Sense ones ( search for Viper ROM ) or even use Stock. There is heaps of active development on this model.
As above full unlock and S-OFF (all security off )
standard micro USB connector - friends/colleagues have latest iphones (lightening connector) or Androids
reasonable battery life - will easily last me a full day
Fast data performance (HSDPA+ ) - I get up to 10Mbps which around here is exceptional
looks cool
bad points for me are:
No sdcard and limited internal memory - you get about 9Gb usable
Too thin - until I got a case I kept dropping it when using it one handed
speaking of cases - there isn't a great variety ( phone is abit yesterday news for good looking cases )
n/a points for me:
I don't use the camera or video - but they are very good
The LED flash isn't great but will do the job
Best thing about Android - you change anything. Don't like the pager/launder: Change it. Indeed I use Nova.
Keep in mind OP that the Jelly Bean update removes scrollable wallpaper in exchange for a repeated cycle of pages on the launcher. e.g page 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 , 6, 7, 1, 2 etc.

They still also sell the S3 in Taiwan, but alongside the S4 (as a different phone altogether) with 64GB internal storage which they call the One S SE (One S Special Edition). The S3 (Snapdragon S3, also called z560e or VilleC2) as far as I know is still marketed as the One S.
AW: Wondering if I should buy One S. Any useful information is welcomed!

thanks! actually I think I can get it brand new for $150 I was also looking at Nexus 4 ($360) and Galaxy SII X ($300) but I won't really play games or look at videos with this phone I just need something to quickly switch between emails/SMS/calls/internet browser (business use, always in a rush...), which my Galaxy Ace II X doesn't do very well. That's why I want a dual-core CPU phone with a 4"-4.5" screen and Android 4+. External SD card would have been great though.
This phone is by far the greatest phone I've ever had. Here are my pros/cons:
Pros:
- Perfect screen size. Not to big, not to small.
- Its FAST for its price. I got this phone back when it was about $500, and i don't regret it.
- Amazing camera.
- Easy to root
- Great for gaming, movies etc.
- I hear negative things about the screen, but j love the colours it puts out. They're very vibrant.
Cons:
- Battery life. I can get about 3 hours screen time with the P.A.C man ROM.
- Sense 4+. I really don't like what HTC did with jellybean (Sense 4+, Jellybean 4.1). I feel like they removed features, and found it yo be a little slow.
- Non removable battery. I feel like its a good thing to have.
- Non removable storage. You're stuck with whatever's inside. (I've still haven't managed to max it out).
If you can get the One S for $150 like you said, get it. Its worth it. Don't spend thr extra $150 for the nexus. If you root the One S and flash a stock 4.2.2 android ROM, you'll be getting the exact same experience.

I just got a One S slightly used for $180 from craigslist/kijiji.ca. Pretty good price considering what you get which is dual core 1.5G and lots of RAM/ROM. It is an S4 as are all Canadian versions.
It's quite a bit faster than my other phone which was only single core 1Ghz.
I had a bit of trouble following some of the rooting and s-off procedures but I eventually got it figured out. It's not point and click unlocking s-off ing yet like some of the other phones that have been around longer but it will probably get there eventually.

thank you. I agree with you, removable battery and storage are great features but for that price and this power I think I'll be happy with a One S, and I'll probably root it. Just for fun
I should have it by Thursday. Several cellphone sellers told me to go with the Nexus 4 but I guess they just wanted me to spend more. For my use, a dual-core CPU will be just fine.
My biggest loss of getting his phone is the lack of an SD card reader, never thought it was a big deal till I had to go without and it quickly became an issue.

I agree. For me it's not really a problem since I don't plan to store music/pictures/videos on this phone, but that's definitely a bad point for this cell. And for Nexus 4 as well since it has no external storage neither!!
The Nexus 4 exists in 2 models, 8GB and 16 GB, so maybe the lack of external storage can make people buying the 16GB model, but the HTC One S doesn't come with different storage sizes, and that's a pity.
It's a great phone, and now that Bell/Virgin has released the 4.1.1 update it has been brought into early-2013 standards (only the Nexus line has 4.2.x as of today).
Some people don't like the changes that JB brought but overall the phone for me has improved.
If you buy a case consider this one: http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B007ZTA522/
I really suggest getting a ballistic SG case as the phone is really thin and delicate. Plus the case is super sexy, feels great in your hand,is grippy and is as strong and durable as an otter box case if not more.

Here is a link if you can do it manually but if you want it really easy and you are new to rooting, I suggest that you use the all in one kit. But you know you can do it and you are comfortable, use the tutorial, more fun.
Link for root tutorial:

Link for all in one kit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604677
Please hit tnx if I helped have fun rooting.

sure I hit Thanks!
what's the advantage of doing it manually vs all-in-one kit?
I've never been a big fan of benchmarks, but Quadrant results are amazing!
- Ace II X : ~2300
- One S 4.0.3 : ~5000
- One S 4.1.1 : ~6200

But is a more powerful CPU at all necessary? I couldn't imagine any real world situation that could arise in the next two years where a Snapdragon 600 wouldn't be sufficient. The One is just so much better than the GS4, especially if both are running stock.
Samsung for me

After two Samsungs, I am not touching another one.
Plus, the Galaxy feels cheap and it has a rather tacky design (and Touchwiz is even uglier).
The HTC One is one of the few Androids with good hardware design and one of the first to give the iPhone a run for its money.
I had ordered the HTC One Developer Edition, but after the delays, I went with the stainless steel Lenovo K900 (http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/lenovo-k900-launches-in-china/) which should arrive next week.
Let's see. I require expandable storage. (No WiFi or 3G signal for 6 hours a day).. Yea, okay, I can stop there already.
Doesn't really make it a decision anymore then, does it? No bloody MicroSD, what the hell was HTC thinking...
Samsung S4 for sure
i think the s4 G edition because of the support

to remain the one-batch forming affect , less jack would be better,
16gb S4
That is a tough decision, I want the S4 Google edition, but I can get a regular S4, unlock it an root it so ..... do I necessary need the Google edition?
The processor on the S4 is better and you have the option for a 64bit external SD. I would get the 16gb version S4 and a 64bit class 10 sd, unlock, root and rom with stock rom and install MOD][15DEC]ExtSd2InternalSd v5.5|Increase your data storage

I don't know if you realise this but the VAST majority of consumers don't need an SD card or removable battery and couldn't care less whether or not the One has those things. Maybe it would help attract some of us power users from XDA but other than that most people (including myself) are more than content with 32/64 GB storage options. If there's one thing I think that HTC simply did wrong with the One, it's the buttons. I don't have any clue why they made the frankly idiotic decision to get rid of the multitasking button and make the home button off-center because it somewhat ruins the aesthetics and functionality for me. That also means there's no way to remap a button to menu (as was possible on the HOX) and as a result the three dots overflow is present in most apps. Other than that, I personally think they didn't made any other obvious mistakes with the phone. Sense was actually very nice and the camera may have been a gamble but it could have been great.

We (people on XDA) are not " VAST majority of consumers " and this poll is not for them intended. We are power users and like every other individual, we share our thougts and answer to a question: HTC or Samsung G. Edition?
If I wan't a lectures, I will go to school (been there done that).
Either way, Samsung G. Edition for me, HTC have too many hardware flaws, for my taste.

HTC One have enormos unused space, button layout is odd and repairability is very low.
As for you Samy, just remove hardware button and game on
I bought the HTC One Dev which should arrive this Tuesday after such a long backorder... I am thinking about returning it and waiting for the Google edition. Would not ever own any Samsung device until they start taking design lessons from ASUS/HTC or their TV designers and start using non-plastic.
EDIT: And for those crying about no SD card... do you really need more than 64GB that comes with the Dev Edition HTC One? Come on, stop watching HD porn in your phone.
I chosed the HTC. More resistant, and I want to try this constructor
Sorry for my bad English, I'm French.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus.
I would go for the HTC I think, mainly because of the design and build quality...
