Locked phone? - HTC Desire S

I bought my phone (allegedly) sim free here in the Middle East where I work. I was looking on this site & noticed that some users seem to have more up to date versions of Android and Sense than me, I'm on Android 2.3.3, Sense 2.1.
So... I put my Irish sim card into the phone to see if it would detect an update & it would not connect to a network.
Is it possible my phone is sim locked? I know that it is s-on. What versions should I be on?
The sim seems to be working fine in a cheap Samsung I have.

Could be sim locked, if not check that your APN settings are correct for the other network you are trying to connect to.
Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks (second option without the check box) > Access Point Names
Check these are relevant for the network you are trying to connect to.

Nexus S Simlocked? URGENT HELP NEEDED!

Hello, I think my phone is simlocked. I bought my nexus s from carphonewarhouse here in the UK on vodafone contract.
My vodafone simcard works fine but if I put another carrier simcard in, it says no service but I have full/good reception. Also it does not ask for a simlock unlock code!
WHen I manually choose the network it says, unable to connect to the network.
I have changed roms etc.. to stock and even tried 2.3.2 radio and the 2 new 2.3.3 radios!
Please help? I thought all nexus s works with any network?
all Nexus comes sim unlocked
if you try another network, make sure it has the correct frequencies supported
Did you try radios meant for the other carrier's network?

I couldn't find them, do u know where I can get it from? I tried all network Sims in the UK, none work except vodafone.
You probably have manually selected Vodafone in the past and the phone tries to connect to Vodafone. You have to go into settings and select 'automatic network selection' or manually select another network.
Am I the only one stoked by the timestamp on the op <.< 1337

I've tried that, it says "cannot connect to the network"
Check your APN settings (Settings, Wirelss & network, mobile networks, APN).
You might have success by manually adding the correct ones for the network you're attempting to connect to.
Are you inserting ACTIVATED SIM cards? Also does making voice calls work on it? If voice works and data doesn't, it's your APN settings that need adjustments.

[Q] Network problems with I9000 bought in Singapore, using in Canada

Hi everyone,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (16gb) in Singapore and was using it fine on Singtel's network (signed a contract with them). Now I have moved back to Canada and brought my phone with me assuming that all would be ok to use it with the network here. However I'm having big problems with this one network I just signed up with (Virgin Mobile).
85% of the time I cannot connect to it: voice calls and SMSing won't work nor will the data work on it, the only thing it says is "Emergency calls only". Then at other times everything will seem to connect and work fine - I can make calls and use data.
Virgin Mobile will not support me much because they're thinking it's the phone's problem, if I use the phone they gave me (a lower-end model) it works fine.
Here are some details of my phone:
Firmware version
2 2
Baseband version
I9000DXJPA
Kernel version
2 6 32 9
root (at) SE-S604 #1
Build number
FROYO DXJPA
If I check out the status, it usually says this:
Network
Unknown (switches to VIRGIN when it does work)
Mobile network type
UMTS (switches between that and HSDPA and GPRS)
Service state
Out of service
Mobile network state
Disconnected (switches to connected when working, and even when it's not working sometimes)
I have Network mode set to auto mode (GSM/WCDMA). I've tried to switch it to GSM only but that didn't seem to change anything.
I'm wondering if there's some kind of configuration settings I still need to do with the phone? I'm also wondering if it is the network I'm with right now? Virgin Mobile isn't one of the bigger telcom companies here and I'm thinking that if I switch to one of the bigger telcoms, will it work better?
Something else to add - before I signed up with Virgin I was using my phone with a pre-paid service (called Chatr) for voice only and it was working fine.
I'm sure this phone can support the GSM frequencies here.. can't it?
I also still have the Singtel customizations on the phone. Will it help if I remove it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!
Ryan
sorry, wrong category..

[Q] HTC Sensation

Hello All,
Looking for a bit of help. (Aren't we all?!?)
I have recently purchased a HTC Sensation in the UK. Original provider is Orange. I have achieved "S-Off" by following instructions on this site, and shortly after achieved the unlock by using method 2 on this forum. Everything seemed to work fine, except I have just noticed that with other providers SIM cards I no longer have a 3G signal as I do with the original SIM. Is this somethign that can be fixed, or am I stuck with the original provider?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I'd be glad to give all the details of my phone, if anyone has any ideas of a solution. Thanks in advance!
JT
Nice, have you tried selecting the 3g networks from the mobile networks menu?
Nice phone. I think you must select it in the mobile network in the settings.
I had the same thing with my sensation that was locked to Vodafone, you have to go into wireless and network settings > mobile networks > access point names and if you dont have the network that your sim is using show up press menu > new APN and add the values for your network, just do a google search to find out what they are like if it was for orange just search "orange uk apn settings".
Hope this helps.
absolutly correct you need to add the correct APN settings I have had to do the same thing with my sensation

[Q] how to select network operator manually?

i am using AT&T's Samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket (unlocked), i am unable to select a network operator manually. As i keep going around different countries, i keep on purchasing local sim cards for calling home, so i need to select the network manually, otherwise it will select the network which has best signal strength and i may land up paying heavy charges for roaming.
when i go to wireless and network/ mobile networks/ network operators only thing which comes written is "DEFAULT SETUP" and that is greyed out. (when i tap on nothing happens).
also when i change back to my old AT&T sim, i am able to access that greyed out area, but when i put another sim "DEFAULT SETUP" is again inaccessible.
can someone please guide me through it..??
Are you using the stock ROM?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I have bought the phone just a weak ago... i have changed nothing except for SIM card....
actually i dont know any thing about ROMs and i m new to android also... i just guess that above written satisfies your question.
well thats your answer. You can not do that on stock att firmware
what modifications i have to do .... to achieve the desired results...??
and please tell HOW to do also....!!
You need to flush custom ROM that supports changing network operator settings.
Look at this post if you would like to use custom ROM:

Question Galaxy A32 5G Android 13 locked Tmob

hi, purchased this phone second hand locked to t-mob. Speaking with Samsung, they says that it was sold to Sprint. I'm Tmob customer.
Working Samsung, Spring, Tmob my attempts to unlock the phone failed.
Interesting that if I go Settings>APPs, I can find App info for Network Unlock. But the application is hidden. Any way to start it? If not any recommendations how to unlock it?
I was reading here, this all new to me but I gathered that U5.0 Android 13 is impossible to flash to stock FW. Is this correct? Thank you.
OMG i just unlocked a moto e with the same app. Its not hidden its somewhere in settings. Sorry i came across it by pure chance today and was so excited when it worked that i dont remember exactly where it was.
But I saw it in Apps just like you and wondered where it was. Try putting in another SIM card. A message box will pop up saying that you have a new SIM and if you want to network unlock. If that doesnt work just search through settings. It will just be a Button but when i clicked on it, i was asked if i wanted a temp or permanent unlock.I chose permanent. and was accepted right away
@explicitKC - good! But in my case the app is not there. Here is what Tmob says on the subject.
And reading more I see that flashing stock FW will not Unlock the phone, unfortunately. But some web sites advertise the service. Pre-req. is to have phone connected to PC and they will use it to unlock. Dont want to go there as they may drop whatever they want on the phone if have malicious intentions.
