Hello All,
Looking for a bit of help. (Aren't we all?!?)
I have recently purchased a HTC Sensation in the UK. Original provider is Orange. I have achieved "S-Off" by following instructions on this site, and shortly after achieved the unlock by using method 2 on this forum. Everything seemed to work fine, except I have just noticed that with other providers SIM cards I no longer have a 3G signal as I do with the original SIM. Is this somethign that can be fixed, or am I stuck with the original provider?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I'd be glad to give all the details of my phone, if anyone has any ideas of a solution. Thanks in advance!
JT
Nice, have you tried selecting the 3g networks from the mobile networks menu?
Nice phone. I think you must select it in the mobile network in the settings.
I had the same thing with my sensation that was locked to Vodafone, you have to go into wireless and network settings > mobile networks > access point names and if you dont have the network that your sim is using show up press menu > new APN and add the values for your network, just do a google search to find out what they are like if it was for orange just search "orange uk apn settings".
Hope this helps.
absolutly correct you need to add the correct APN settings I have had to do the same thing with my sensation

Hi
I have an HTC Touch Cruise that I bought over the Internet. It has worked perfectly with the phone operator that I have been with for the last 5 years.
I changed my phone operator: Changed the SIM card . I see the name of the new company on the screen (top left). I can use the phone, but cannot send SMS's. On the Connections Tab in the Settings I accessed the Connection Setup and the name of the original opertor still appears. In the Comm manager I went into the Phone Settings and on the Services Tab I pressed "Get Settings" for all the services. On the Network Tab the Current network is that of the new operator. I pressed on FIND Network button and the SET Network buttons and it seems that the current network is that of the new one, yet a message appears "Connection Setup. The operator does not exist on the database. Please contact your operator for connection settings. Connection setup will redirect you to the Connections screen". This message has appeared from the moment I changed the SIM card. The new operator does not not know how to help me. Can someone point me in the right direction? What does it mean that the "operator does not exit in the database"? How can I make it appear on the database?
Thanks
Brian
I suggest you state your current operator and country. Maybe someone can share the settings you should key in. Another option is too google something like: youroperatorname internet or gprs settings (that's how I did it for my wife last month). I remember there is a specific thread here at xda dealing only with these kind of settings. Another option is to look for the lastest version of htconfiguration tool in case it is already there (maybe you use an "old" rom). Good luck
Hi Cruiserrr
Thanks for your quick response. The operator is Orange and the country is Israel. I'll Google what you suggested. I'm using the original ROM.Can you remember the thread?Where do I find if there is a new version of the htconfiguration tool and how will it help my situation? And how would I use it/
Thanks
Brian
I typed in google "gprs settings orange israel" and had lots of links. eg here at xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=218329. Maybe the first one does not work since the link maybe old. Try a few posts and you should be up and running in a few minutes.
htcconfiguration tool ??? I think I invented myself the name. I am referring to the same app you mentioned connectionsetup (htc made)-
this is the part of the forum where you should look for gprs settings http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=262

Thanks for the info. I'll check out your leads in the morning and I'll let you know how it went.
Once again, Thanks

Ok the problem is I am on GTA network here in guam (the company uses at&t phones) I have a unlock HTC Sensation and the data is not working on the phone. When I place the sim card in another phone it works perfectly. I have taken my phon to the support office and they cannot figure out the problem...Any suggestions??
Have you checked to see if you have the correct APN (Access Point Names) in your settings. To check them go to Settings/ Wireless & networks/ Mobile networks/ Access Point Names. You should shed your carrier listed in the Access Point names touch on it and right down your settings. Then Google to find the correct APN settings to check and see if they are correct. If you do not see you carrier listed then you will need to touch the menu button and then touch New apn to add your carrier's APN settings. Again Google for the settings I am sure you will find them.
Also you have to have also when you go into Settings/Wireless & networks you will see a Mobile network with a check box beside it make sure it is checked. Without this checked you will not get as mobile data connection.
Thank you for your reply. According to GTA i have the right APN and everything is checked. The phone GPS thinks im in Sparta TN. when I really am In guam. I dont know if that has anything to do with it.
any other suggestions?

You are supposed to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The leprechaun will tell you all you need to know.
It's very easy. I had the same problem here in Pakistan. What you do is take the APN settings you get from your provider and fill them in the usual place (Settings->Mobile Networks->Access Point Names).
Fill out everything that the operator tells you to, except the last entry APN Type. Set the value in this field to "default". Save and exit this screen. You'll see radio buttons next to your 'New' APN. Just select it and your phone will recognize mobile data.
P.S. 3G/2G is used whenever the phone's radio detects the presense, so it doesn't matter what type of network you're on, as long is the APN is there.
the operator here just tells me mpulse for the name and mpulse.gta.net for the server.
i am using AT&T's Samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket (unlocked), i am unable to select a network operator manually. As i keep going around different countries, i keep on purchasing local sim cards for calling home, so i need to select the network manually, otherwise it will select the network which has best signal strength and i may land up paying heavy charges for roaming.
when i go to wireless and network/ mobile networks/ network operators only thing which comes written is "DEFAULT SETUP" and that is greyed out. (when i tap on nothing happens).
also when i change back to my old AT&T sim, i am able to access that greyed out area, but when i put another sim "DEFAULT SETUP" is again inaccessible.
can someone please guide me through it..??
Are you using the stock ROM?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I have bought the phone just a weak ago... i have changed nothing except for SIM card....
actually i dont know any thing about ROMs and i m new to android also... i just guess that above written satisfies your question.
well thats your answer. You can not do that on stock att firmware
what modifications i have to do .... to achieve the desired results...??
and please tell HOW to do also....!!
You need to flush custom ROM that supports changing network operator settings.
Look at this post if you would like to use custom ROM:

Hi
I am currently in the US for holiday. Bought two prepaid att go phone cards already in Germany and activated them. The Data connection in my wifes SAMSUNG SIII mini (stock) works as it should.
In my HTC ONE SV I only get EDGE working. No matter which APN settings I use as soon as I switch on something else as GSM only in Network data plan.it disconnects completely from Mobile and states "Service not available"
My SV is unlocked and rooted and running with the Russian ROM
Any quick suggestion what can help,
Edit: I went to a AT&T shop here. They were very helpful but couldn't get it working. Tried more things and at one point all APN settings were gone. After that I tried for the first time the "Reset to default" and it loaded the ATT Phone settings.
After a restart everything works. I have here with H sign in taskbar a download of 5Mbps and upload of 1Mbps.
I attach the screenshots of the settings
Hello there, i just got this phone 3 weeks ago and since i have wifi i didnt test the 3g conection before. i activated a data pack and i just realized that my 3g doesnt come on at all. the screen shows 4g left side of the signal strengh but it doesnt work at all. i got at&t version. i confirmed with my carrier and i did activate data, they even helped me to set up the apn but is still not working. can you helpe me? thanks!
PD: they said they couldnt have done more because they dont support that type of device
Does it say 4G or 4G LTE? The at&t icons are a bit different I'd you're not used to them.
4G = hspa
4G LTE = LTE
So if you're getting the 4G icon you are actually getting 3G hspa speeds.

If another carrier besides AT&T, you will need to find the APN settings for your carrier and manually enter it into Settings>Mobile network settings>Access point names. Select "New APN" and enter the correct settings for your manufacturer.
The 4G icon simply means a network is present, it doesn't mean you are connected to it.
thank you for helping people. whel actualy i wouldnt mind getting 3g network access, the point is that i dont have internet access at all. i called my carrier (Claro - El salvador) and they helped me to set up the apt but is still not working. i was wondering if there is something else i could try to fix this
nevermind, i finally fixed it
Please share the fix so the information is available for anyone who might have the same problem in the future.

sorry. well, first i did master reset, once done i set up an apn (carrier provides you with this info), then went to mobile network > network operators > select automatically. once the device found the "CLARO" network i turned data on and got internet service.
Thankyou, these threads live on long after we're finished with them so it's important to have the information readily available for future troubleshooters.

I'm guessing you either had not entered the APN info exactly correctly the first time. Or also, after entering the APN you actually have to select it as the "active" one on the list of APNs (making sure it has the colored dot next to it). Maybe it did need a factory reset, but this shouldn't be necessary just to change APN.
Happy you got it figured out.
