Installing AOSP Stuff? - Verizon Droid Charge

I have the deodexed 2.3.5 leak (EP3HA) and I would like to change some stuff to the AOSP version. Primarily, I want to change the lock screen without using some app (I have experienced lag and/or double locks) and the calendar app. How would I go about installing these (I believe this is the point of the deodexed ROMS)?

I found my perfect ROM!

What I wanted:
-everything has to work (gps, proximity sensor, mms, hotspot, etc.)
-great data speeds, like 7mb down and 1.5 up
-stable (no FC closes, etc.)
-good battery life
-3D app drawer (like CM7)
-3D gallery (like CM7)
-full email functionality (exchange, schedules, self BCC, etc.)
-no Sense
So, what ROM is it?
It is the STOCK ROM with a few non-developmental changes.
Here are all the parts:
The stock rooted ROM found here (this contains the recent OTA update that gives you great speed):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
Then, I removed most Sense objects by flashing this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=993475
Then, I installed this 3D Gallery app:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cooliris.media&feature=search_result
For me, this ROM is Nirvana…no more bugs every corner I turn. No more jumping through fire hoops to fix the "little things". It just works.
Great combination

Stock has it.
I personally like leedriod. but I have done the same thing. Stock rom with Sideloading enabled. removed all the bloat. Then added all I needed and made a rom back up. I return to it frequently. But leedriod has been on my phone for 5+ days in a row now.

To be clear, I just didn't remove bloat, I removed most of Sense. This seems to speed things up quite a bit. For example, I'm using the AOSP launcher, etc.
i'm trying your method right now because i needed gps to work, and no rom ever had gps working for me. but how did you remove the bloat?

See the second link in my original post. When you go through the process of removing Sense, it removes most bloat. Any bloat left can be removed with Titanium backup.

It's true that stock ROMs are almost bug free, but flashing custom ROMs has become a hobby for me. I rarely keep a ROM for more than a week, and the whole process of flashing a new release and checking out the new features is just awesome. I know, I'm a big geek

It disturbs me when Cooks call their rom Non Sense or Sense Less, yet they still leave at least 1 Sense item in the Rom. If you were willing to recook your ROM without the sense lock screen I would be willing to give you a mirror off my colocated server.
Well thanks but no thanks. Im fine with multiupload. And i kept the lockscreen FOR A REASON. Thats the best aspect of the new 3.0 sense. Duh. I dont know where u get off calling me a cook. If you check my Rom i compiled 12 apks from aosp source code. So you can keep your opinions to your self.

The lockscreen sucks. I might agree with you if it was the customizable version but the doubleshot version is lame.
Ok. Well please test this version for Me. I will change the lockscreen to aosp if that is the demand.

I personally love double shot screen lock a lot more then the AOSP one, and the HTC Sensation (3.0) one.
Reason being, its simple, I don't need apps on my locks screen. I don't see the point of it, I might as well not have a lock screen if I'm always needing to access my apps.
This is of course a personal thing, but its slightly a gimmick, I just want to slide unlock and call it good. If the feature was there, I wouldn't complain, but I'm not begging to have it either.
Also to note, I much prefer this stripped down version of sense a lot more than the full blown version. Its faster and does not slow down over time like I have noticed with the full version. Downloadable themes would be nice though.
And while I'm at it, I don't like how many shortcuts are on this phone to do the exact same things, like the notification bar Quick Settings, and the Personalize menu. Too many routes to get to the same places.
Downloading to test now. Will report back shortly.
In all honesty thanks for developing and getting the community open to roms. Love to check xda and not see a bunch of "when are we getting roms" threads.
Thank you. Let me know how you like it.

Sorry I didn't mean to rub anyone the wrong way.
I thought cooks were anyone who puts together custom roms. I am just not a fan of The sense 3.0 lock screen, that is it. If you were to make your Rom without the Sense lock screen then maybe offer a CWM update for just the lock screen for people who want that, I think your ROM would cater to everyone. As it is I am still waiting on my 4G slide to arrive.

There's a reason they're called shortcuts. Because they take fewer steps to get there. If I get an email its quicker to slide a gmail icon and get there than unlock then go into apps and open gmail. Same with the quick settings. If I want to turn on wifi its just much faster than hitting menu then settings the wireless settings. I always thought that shortcuts were self-explanatory as to why they exist.
Oh got ya. No cooks are people who take people roms throw them in Rom kitchen and do little mods. Dont get me wrong this is cooked but there are compiled parts as well so i guess u can call it half baked.

flashed it, could only get back to you now (wanted to mess around with it a little bit). it doesn't wanna sync my contacts from google, and gapps process keeps closing. don't know what to make of that lol.
love the launcher though.
I like the lock ring, and am interested in hearing others feedback about this rom. Thanks for putting it out there, I still haven't mustered the courage to s-off and root my phone.

I'm 99% sure that if you use root explorer to remove HTCLockscreen.apk from the system/apps folder it'll revert to the stock android lockscreen. Problem solved! You can download this ROM and delete the HTCLockscreen apk and you'll be golden.
I too like the lock ring. I find the sensation's lock ring with shortcuts to be kind of gimmicy to be honest.
Is this a true Sense-less rom? I installed Tasteless Venom, and while I love it, when trying to connect a Wii controller to it, it still says the phone is running HTC Sense, so it won't work.
I'm a heavy gamer and emulator user (major reason why I got the phone ), and being able to connect a Wii controller or PS3 Controller is a MAJOR thing for me..
No this still is a sense based rom. He just deleted some sense apk's.

[Q] Help with HTC Notes and Tasks ICS apps

dudes and dudettes,
I tried out one of the Sense ICS ROMS (ARHD 5.0.2) and while aspects of it were great, at the moment (due to kernel development) it's a lot slower than the Gingerbread ROMs available.
However, I really loved the HTC ICS "Notes" and "Tasks" apps.
My questions,
1. Is it possible to run these apps on Gingerbread? Obviously the widgets couldn't really be integrated with a current ROM without recooking the whole thing, but just being able to use the apps would be great. Could someone provide the APKs if it is possible?
2. If that won't work, could somebody strip the icons from the apks for me? I love them and I'd like to use them for my note and to do apps.
Thanks for reading,
zuka
They work on Sense Gingerbread ROMs, yes.
I've installed both on a Gingerbread Sense 3.0 ROM and they both force close. Am I doing something wrong?
I should have clarified, Sense 3.5 ROMs have them.

[Q] Prerooted Sense rom and custom Launcher

Hi, I want ask if is possible in pre rooted sense rom change sense launcher for Go Launcher Ex. I don't like sense native launcher.
If I install on sense rom GoLauncherEx.... native sense launcher run on background.... It's possible replace native sense launcher with Go Launcher Ex?
Sry for my english...
If you don't want any part of the sense experience, why use a sense ROM? It would just be running in the background using resources.
Sorry if I misunderstand you.

Why not use aosp or aokp? There are no sense launchers running in background

You guys obviously know, that sense is not only the launcher, but also quite a few other tricks and tweaks across the system? I would have to double check, but while You cannot get rid of sense completely, launcher doesn't seem to stay in memory when other is chosen as default action for home button etc.

Yeah i've seen a lot of people add a custom launcher to sense for a lot of reasons. Sense adds a lot of functionality to the ROM and some can't live without the widgets. There may be reasons. But anyway, a custom launcher doesn't require root but i suppose it's good you have it. Just get one from the market and it should work.
However, i don't think it's possible to replace the sense launcher. Sense seems to take a huge impact if you remove a part of it. That is one problem.
EDIT: I've just seen that you can disable the sense launcher by getting an app called SystemApp Remover. The app does cost though but should stop sense launcher from running without removing it. The app you want to disable is Rosie.apk. Make a backup incase and make sure the 3rd party launcher is installed before you do this!!
I suppose Titanium Backup could do the same by freezing the Rosie.apk but you would still have to pay for the pro version.
Once again i'd like to say if you try this, make sure you have a backup and also you install the 3rd party launcher before you freeze it!

Hmm.... maybe I try this.... when will be finished first Sense 4 ROM.... Thanks for response
hmm was thinking about the same thing and exploring the inside of the rom.
is it possible to (1)remove any launcher/app.apk and (2)add in any apps of your own, in system/app ? or it is more complicated than that?
Actually there is a Sense-less WipeOut ROM, the ROM is still based on Sense, but uses ICS-based launcher (can't rmbr whether it is Nova/Apex/trebuchet)..
maybe OP can try that? But mind you that ROM is Sense 4.0A based, so some functions may not be working properly yet (touch to focus camera, WiFi hotspot, etc) but it is stable enough as daily driver..
I hope this is what OP means..
i use apex launcher and have rosie.apk frozen by titanium backup. you can also delete it with root explorer if you want. mind that display personalise settings aren't working any more without rosie or with rosie frozen, so you have to set all those things before you ger rid of it.

[Q] Root/ROM-free alternative to obtaining AOSP apps/widgets?

Hello,
Is there a way to obtain the default/AOSP ICS (or perhaps JB) apps and widgets, as additions (not replacements) to the stock Sense apps and widgets? While Sense isn't bad, I'd still like to obtain ICS/JB elements without having to root or anything warranty voiding, and without having to use a laucher (because that way I still don't have the AOSP apps/widgets, AND Sense widgets are lost).
So in short, how to get stock Sense apps/widgets PLUS AOSP apps/widgets?
Is this possible?
Thanks in advance.
(I did a search, the most fitting thread found was from 2010 from a way older Sense device.. not much of use.)
Not sure if you can install the AOSP apps straight from APKs when not rooted, but if so: download say CM9 or AOKP ROM (zip file) from development section and grab the apks from the zip file, copy to sdcard and click them in a file manager app on the phone. Some of them can coexist with sense apps, calendar, dialer and contacts for example. MMS and others will replace sense apps. When you get tired of limitations take the plunge and try a nice rooted Sense ROM like leedroid, trickdroid or modaco where you can do whatever your heart desires, unless it still desires the mutually exclusive stuff you mentioned ofc

It's not that I really want the Sense widgets/apps, but my experience with launchers thus far has been a lack of widgets and apps to replace the Sense ones. It's a shame Sense replaces AOSP apps instead of just being added.
My concern with rooting and flashing ROMs, asides from the always present risk of bricking, is whether I can fully return to stock in case I need(/want) to return the phone, so, to keep my warranty safe. I'm already at the latest software versions, and from what I have read here is that I require a so-called RUU of the proper software version which isn't anywhere to be found except for sale.
Sense-ROMs would indeed suffice for keeping the Sense stuff, though a Jelly Bean ROM with some essential tweaks (e.g. 3 dot menu tweak) would probably suffice, given that it has the AOSP widgets. Though I need to wait for such ROM, and there's still the whole risk/warranty thing.
