[Q] Current Desire S Offers - HTC Desire S

Hi guys, noob here
I currently have a Blackberry curve which is coming up to 2 years old and i'm thinking its time for an upgrade.
Ive seen this deal for a Desire S with TalkMobile which includes:
300 Mins
1000 Texts
1GB Data
All for £18p/m
Do you guys think this is a good deal? The only thing that worries me is the fact its for 24 months, will this phone still be up to the task in 2 years time?
Thanks

id say this is a great deal! go with it.
ive had my desire s now for just over 6 months.
still keeping me extremely entertained, and with the roms here on xda u will always have things to play with
its a great phone, and has great specs.

I'd echo what previous poster said.
Also, the deal is 'ok', & there's a lot of 2yr contracts around atm.
As to whether the device will last the course, probably not. Well, think of what you thought of your Curve at the start of your last contract. Pretty good, huh? And now, not so good, lol. Things move on,right?
Peace

I got a better deal:
300 minutes. 1000 texts. 1gb data.
12 month contract, £25 a month. Phone cost £14.99.
I also got £50 quidco cashback, plus NHS discount.
Talkmobile network (Vodafone) bought it on 29th July from E2save.
I payed around £200 for the phone and contract. Pretty good deal I'd say.

"NHS discount"? I'm intrigued, do tell
I got unlimited texts, 1gb data, 600 mins for £10/ month, but let's not start **** slapping, eh.

Wow, £10 a month is awesome! How longs your contract? Did the phone come free?
NHS discount is 40% NHS workers get for anything they use that they require for work
It's actually my dads discount that I took from (he does orthapaedics) so I get 40% off the phone.
I calculated it in total, and I only paid around £200... I say its a heck of a bargain!

Oh, I see, lol. I thought maybe it was like get a free xray with every colonoscopy, something like that
Yes, phone was free - but 2 year contract .... one hand giveth ....

Wrong thread
don't go spamming the forum with multiple posts. no one will want to help with your attitude.
i already gave help in the original thread.
it's your own stupidity you flashed a ROM which is clearly not made for our phone.

[Q] RIP HTC Inspire 4G (2/13/11-3/4/11)

So I was forced to execute my Inspire today. It was rooted, I've tried different roms/radios, flashed rooted stock rom/stock rom. It was never reliable: always dropping service, not receiving/making calls at random times, mms unreliable. I took it back to best buy to try to get it exchanged for a new one. Of course the phone was working flawlessly when I got to the store. The good news is that I had purchased the best buy protection plan for it at $10/month. I had enough of the phone not working reliably for its intended purpose and had to smash it in order to get a new unit. I went back to best buy and turned in the broken phone, and after more than a few suspicious looks from workers-got my phone sent in for repair. Of course it's not going to be repairable (I hit it with my baton , which crushed the screen and phone in the middle), so now I wait a few weeks for my new unit.
My question is, should I cancel my ATT contract and go with a different provider. I loved the actual phone, I just think the ATT "4G" service is horribly unreliable in my area. Or, are there any good Android 3G phones for ATT?
BTW, I am coming from an iPhone 4 before i got the HTC Inspire. iPhone worked awesome, I'm just tired of Apple products.
You can exchange/return your phone within 30 days so why the hell did you "smash" it?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
If you were within the 30 days you had every right to just return it just because you wanted to.
I hope you get it all worked out. GL

I LOL'd when I read that
In my opinion, you have the best android phone AT&T has to offer...and on this thread? I think a lot of people will think the same thing. A lot of us inspire owners are previous captivate owners! That phone REQUIRED tweaking to get it to work smoothly (and for me, to get gps to work)
You could get the atrix, but there's not much tweaking/modding/flashing you can do with it due to a signed bootloader.
yeah, smashing it was a stupid thing to do.
cancelling your at&t contract will cost you a lot of money.
LOL, its crazy that someone has to go to those lenths to return a phone, but its true especially at stores like bestbuy its like ok so u want me to go in parking lot and run over it with my car a few times? then you will exchange it? and if u didnt have a problem with it why would u want a new one? Funny the smashing with baton part though.
^ he said, he was having problems.
i agree with others, you had 30 days to return it, i don't understand why you didn't just do that, and get another phone.

Right on... I also think $10 a month is crazy expensive.
For me, the Inspire has been a dream. Super stable... super fast... and I really haven't felt the need to root it.. yet.

yea, $10 a month is nuts, i only paid $50 for the entire phone!
I don't think any of your understood, lol. Best Buy refused to take it back because it was working fine in front of them. And I did literally say to the kid working there, "So if I take it out in the parking lot and run it over with my truck, you guys will take it back?" He replied, "Do what you gotta do, if you come in tomorrow with a broken phone I'll act like I didn't see you come in today."
BTW I paid full price for the phone ($450ish).
You can return it for ANY reason within 30 days. Doesn't have to be broken.

I dont think bestbuy will do a swap without something wrong with it that they can see that isnt walmart. Not all stores are easy to work with. sure he could have returned it but that is a restocking fee

That's what I was thinking. I didn't want to push the issue and get the manager involved only to deny me getting a new phone. Then, I show up a few days later with a broken phone anyway. I will most likely be buying my next phone at Costco.

Restocking fees no longer apply at best buy, and their return policy does not say something has to be wrong.

Yes, the price is coming down because of the dual cores coming out, and other Samsung 1.2 or 1.4Ghz single cores etc. The Desire S is fast enough for me though!

Check out this deal. Could be the cheapest way to get the phone:

I went for 18 months at £18.50 - if the £90 quidco tracks that would mean the phone would cost me £243. I know that would be on a low useage contract but even if you never used the contract, the phone would still be cheaper than anywhere else.

is there any o2 bloatware on it? any o2 apps, themes, bootscreens?
Funnily enough mine doesnt have anything O2!
No bootscreens, no apps, themes or even screen savers lol!
Firmware is:
1.28.401.1 with 2.1 Sense and 2.3.3 GB.
Oh and it also came with a SanDisk SD card rather than the usual Samsung
The chap at the store did say it was a new batch that came in today so i think it may have generic firmware.
Think i got lucky!!
When i get some time i may try another sim.

I have read random reports of this happening at various Wal-Mart's around the country. I guess it depends on whether or not the rep is paying attention, or knows what they are doing.
I got an upgrade through retentions, unfortunately it had to be done through them so no $150 Walmart deal here. However it finally showed up in Tmo's systems today so I called a little while ago and ordered it through them. $250 with $50 MIR. This week is gonna drag ass while I wait for UPS...
Sorry bro, now you have to write a full in depth report/review/critique with pics and everything when you get it I'm ready to switch just want to test the waters first

I got mine at Wal-Mart last Wednesday. They are selling it for $600 off-contract, but I printed out an article online that showed T-Mobile will be selling it for $549.99, and they matched it!

Does the One S really have 1GB of RAM?

I see that I only have 685MB when I am looking at the apps running. I am sad I always have more than half of my RAM in use.

Yeah only 12 of it haha.
Well can I vent here? I'll vent here.
So I bought a phone off of some lady. $300. It was fresh. Initially it seemed like a good deal.
Everything was find up until 3PM today. My phone no longer connected to a network. After 8 hours of no service I called T-mobile from another phone and turns out my phone has been banned. I guess they lady that sold it to me stopped paying for the bills. Unless it was a scam from the start. Which it probably was. Now I have a $300 4.3" tablet.
Life is so bad for me, now. My Westone 3 just broke 2 months after warranty. College decided it wanted more money so I got 50% of my original grant. Governor Corbett sucks, btw.

Why are you sad?
Unused ram is not necessarily a good thing.
Unused ram = wasted ram
No, I called T-Mobile and they would not/cannot unblock it. Its frustrating how they think its right. They charged the original owner the full price and then they destroy the phone. If then they compare it to repossession of a car. Yeah, except that car is still in circulation and fully working and they don't take then take the remaining money. T-mobile are idiots if they think that analogy is right. If they are going to charge the full price then that person should own it.
Ok I've been see this a couple time and I'm kinda tired of people being mad at T-Mobile for people trying to save money from a non-T-mobile source and the phone don't work. That lady either one did not pay off her equipment installment plan(so she did not own it) or she did a fault claim saying she lost the phone or just never sent the phone back on a warranty claim. If a person buys a phone straight out T-mobile will not block the imei number unless the phone is reported stolen and the owner makes them block the imei. I have friends that work at T-mobile. It is no different than Verizon or Sprint phones that are report lost or stolen now.

AT&T $100 Trade-in Promotion Starting

I just wanted to post this for all of you considering getting a new phone on AT&T, such as the One, S4, Blackberry, etc. According to what I have read, it looks like AT&T is starting a promotion tomorrow that will give an instant $100 or more credit toward a new phone of your choice when you trade in your old working smart phone, ( 3 years old or less). This may help in the decision making process for many people.

I'm starting to hate AT&T even more. I recently tried to get an early upgrade (60 days away) & was turned down over the phone. It really pissed me off since I've been a long time customer in good standing. Pissed me off so much, I've been considering going to TMO & now they do this to me. Hopefully this last for more than 30 days since they won't budge unless im within 30 days or less.
Can you trade in a rooted and unlocked phone that has been flashed?
I want the S4 pretty badly and I want to trade in my 1 year old HTC One X but I unlocked, rooted and flashed this thing.

So re-lock and unroot it?
You can probably sell the phone for way more on eBay or some other places. It's not worth giving it to att.

Took in my 2 year old gs2 and picked up 100 off the s4. Just reverted to stock from aokp. Dont think it was worth the hassle of selling on ebay.

does anyone know how extensively they check the phone at the store? My phone works perfectly except that for some reason I can't get any service on it. I've tried fixing and troubleshooting for a while but have given up so I'm looking to get back some money for it. So does anyone know if they will check the phone for reception?

I removed the sim from mine and it was at the setup screen (touch the android) and that was it. It was only checked to be sure it would power on and nothing further.

Thanks for the quick responses, I really appreciate it and am glad I'll be able to at least get something for it. Thanks again
Do i need to revert to stock to trade in?
What if I have CM10 running on my GS2? Honestly, they should give me more money for that (because it is more than functional)

I wouldn't think its necessary based on my experience this morning. They just checked to see if it lit up when turned on.
Does anyone know if they would accept a CDMA version of iPhone 4?? I have one sitting around collecting dust. Great condition.

They check the imei/serial number on them. You can check on the website and see if it will work.
