fact or crap? - T-Mobile LG G2x

i heard that gfree method of root for the g2 works with g2x as well...any truth behind that?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App

There's really no need for a root method for gingerbread.
We have a rooted stock 2.3.3 rom, rooted custom 2.3.3 roms, rooted 2.3.5 custom roms, rooted 2.3.7 custom roms...and not to mention rooted froyo roms.
And there's even an unrooted stock 2.3.3 rom if you wanna send it back to lg or tmobile.
But if you absolutely NEED to, here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17398464

The reasoning behind having a way to root in-place, and hence the flashable zip you linked to, is to allow someone the option to gain root access without having to start over from scratch setting up their settings, apps, etc. But otherwise, yea there's not much need for a standalone root method for this phone.

to root 2.27.651.6 we still must revert to .5?

I think I have read through all the root instruction pages. And is it true that one must revert to 2.27.651.5 from root 2.27.651.6 to achieve root? Or is there a more direct way now? Thanks.

I can't post videos/links yet, but search youtube for "androidadvocate easiest recovery image" and the first video that shows up is the method I used the other day to root from .6
It uses ROM Manager from the marketplace. The video explains the whole process and has links to the software needed.
I'm running Cyanogenmod RC1 now and loving it.
Good ideas guys, I will check them out now....thanks!
wow, that video was awesome! i rooted my .6 in no time without losing any information! here comes titanium backup
Does this video method work with 2.2?
Id assume your already rooted if your running 2.2 on the cdma hero.

Damian, I am rooted now ;-)
The question about 2.2 was just out of curiosity.
Thanks all.

Custom rom vs att official update

I installed a 2.2 custom rom, now att sent me a txt that there is an update for my phone, should I update?, will it brick my phone?
There's 300000000 other threads about this. For the majority if your not completely stock att will tell you to update

Do not run an update while on a 2.2 custom rom. It is most likely not the froyo update and rather a 2.1 tweak. If you tried it probably would not take, if it did it would probably screw up your phone. If you really want to try the update I would do a odin flash back to stock. If you do not know what odin is you can find it in the development section

ok,thanks ....i wont update since I dont have a data plan , and I know ATT will screw me over.....btw custom 2.2 running great
Either it:
-Won't work, or
-It will work
I'll let you decide which is worse.

Words of wisdom
I wouldn't update if I were you since it isn't 2.2 yet. You'll end up just installing a custom ROM again.

[Q] After 2.3.5 Gingerbread updated firmware... how to root???

I'm absolutely happy with the 2.3.5 BUT i some how lost access to my SuperUser.. Does anyone know what additional software to root 2.3.5 gingerbread for Samsung Infuse? I would deeply appreciate the help
You can't root 2.3.5
As far as I know, the only way you can root 2.3.5 at the moment is to install JordanElliott's 2.3.5 rom (UCKJ1). You'll need clockworkmod rom manager to flash the rom and then the stock kernal to fix the wifi. It was relatively painless.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297693
So wait, did we get an Official 2.3.5? I'm somewhat confused.

I haven't seen anything about an official release. The latest leak makes it seem like we are really close though since it includes a bootloader.
I'm sure when the sources are released and the real update is out everyone will know

A. look for threads with titles about the firmware toy are running, b. look for threads about issues rooting, c. How are you running 2.3.5? Did you flash it? Did it get pushed to your phone? Did you buy it like that? Did you buy it new?
If you flashed it with Odin and can't figure this out or find the answer i'm in awe, the answer is in every leak thread so far but the question keeps coming up.
Use SuperOneClick v2.2 and use zergRush as the exploit.
Heck...where dud u get 2.3.5? I want it..lol...yea SOC works good...

i got it from a guy on youtube, type in "Tutorial-samsung infuse" an its an indian fella doing a walkthrough and has the links for it. BUT i cant root my phone because of the update... I tried the zergrush with superoneclick and it locked up on my computer.
ANY suggestions
OK I saw the video.
1. This is not an official update.
2. This is a leaked firmware.
3. Try using super one click on a different PC.

Are you on the roger's networks...?
Use doomlord's zergRush exploit from here

It takes a little time but eventually works!!
Used on 2.3.5 downloaded from samfirmware

The Infuse was not listed as one of the supported device.
Did you try this on the infuse?
Which gb leak did you try it on?

2.3.4 Update Issues

I am having issues updating my phone to 2.3.4. I have tried the LG Launcher but it is saying that my phone is currently up to date. I also tried updating my phone through the settings menu, but it did not work either because my phone is up to date. I want 2.3.4 to fix my bugs. Please help me? I am sorry if this is in the wrong forum or if this is already a discussed topic.
You need a custom from for 2.3.4 u can't get it from lg

Custom firmware I assume? T-Mobile said they are sending it out to people who haven't received the update though. I really don't want to root my phone because 1. I don't want any files that will give me viruses. 2. I don't know how to root phones. 3. I want ICS.
1. viruses still aren't an issue with android 2. its not hard to learn 3. I can almost guarantee you we'll get a custom ics rom well before before an official update, if official ever actually happens.

The OTA being pushed is 2.3.3 not 2.3.4, it is being redone for the users that did not get it the first time.
The G2x does not have an "official" update from LG to android 2.3.4. If you want 2.3.4 you have to root and flash a custom rom.

[Q] Returning to TMobile

So I called TMo and they're sending me a replacement G2x. I've seen a number of people claim that they never unroot their phones before sending them in. Is this true? I'm inclined to believe that this would cause issues but I'd just like everyone's two cents before I send this in.
Also, there's a thread in the dev section for reverting to stock. However, this uses SuperOneClick, a method for FroYo based G2x only. So, if I cannot send my phone in rooted, is there a method for reverting phones that have been updated to GB?
Thanks. And sorry if this has been posted before.
I believe you can use S.O.C. after already achieving root to help you revert back to stock. You can just go back to gingerbread no need for froyo.

Easy way to fix it is to format the /system in CWM then flash stock recovery with NVflash. Tell T-Mobile that the phone will not boot and your problem is fixed. No need to flash back to stock rom.

I used to work for T-Mo tier2 pda until they closed our support center January 2010... I never heard of someone having their warranty voided due to root, but it's probably better to be safe than sorry. Things may have changed.
