[Q] Returning to TMobile - T-Mobile LG G2x

So I called TMo and they're sending me a replacement G2x. I've seen a number of people claim that they never unroot their phones before sending them in. Is this true? I'm inclined to believe that this would cause issues but I'd just like everyone's two cents before I send this in.
Also, there's a thread in the dev section for reverting to stock. However, this uses SuperOneClick, a method for FroYo based G2x only. So, if I cannot send my phone in rooted, is there a method for reverting phones that have been updated to GB?
Thanks. And sorry if this has been posted before.

I believe you can use S.O.C. after already achieving root to help you revert back to stock. You can just go back to gingerbread no need for froyo.

You need to go back to a stock 2.3 unrooted rom

[ROOT] G2X Gingerbread 2.3.3. stock ROM with flashable zip in Clockworkmod Recovery Then use nvflash the recovery to stock to go back to a 100% stock

Easy way to fix it is to format the /system in CWM then flash stock recovery with NVflash. Tell T-Mobile that the phone will not boot and your problem is fixed. No need to flash back to stock rom.

I used to work for T-Mo tier2 pda until they closed our support center January 2010... I never heard of someone having their warranty voided due to root, but it's probably better to be safe than sorry. Things may have changed.

Custom rom vs att official update

I installed a 2.2 custom rom, now att sent me a txt that there is an update for my phone, should I update?, will it brick my phone?
There's 300000000 other threads about this. For the majority if your not completely stock att will tell you to update

Do not run an update while on a 2.2 custom rom. It is most likely not the froyo update and rather a 2.1 tweak. If you tried it probably would not take, if it did it would probably screw up your phone. If you really want to try the update I would do a odin flash back to stock. If you do not know what odin is you can find it in the development section

ok,thanks ....i wont update since I dont have a data plan , and I know ATT will screw me over.....btw custom 2.2 running great
Either it:
-Won't work, or
-It will work
I'll let you decide which is worse.

I wouldn't update if I were you since it isn't 2.2 yet. You'll end up just installing a custom ROM again.

To Root or Not to Root?

I have a 2 month old Moto defy in India. Things were good till I updated to the official froyo update. Now the GPS does not work. This, I believe is a widely reported issue.
With no official updates in sight, the easiest thing to do would be to root and install a custom rom. However that would void the warranty and any claims that I may have to make at a later date.
I understand that if I install the GB roms, I can not go back.
Is there a way that I root, install some custom froyo rom and in case I need to return the phone revert it back to the factory state?
yes.you can root it & return back through stock system recovery.
Can you please point me how to go about it?

why don't you try cm7. its GB and you can still go back.
I remember reading somewhere that you can't go back from gb. Is it only for the official leaked gb?

no, its not official, its a mod on froyo base, so you can go back. but this is a dev forum, please post threads here about development, everything else goes in defy general!
Thank you for the help.
Of course root. Unroot is easy and you still can return to stock rom after flashing custom rom.
Thanks everyone. Rooted and installed cm7. Snappy. Great going so far.

[Q] Plain G2x AOSP rom?????

Hi, I am getting my G2x next Friday and of coarse, gonna be rooting it as soon as I have it. But I want a plain 2.3.3 OTA rooted rom. No fancy names, EagleBlood, WeaponX and so on.. where or which one can I get? That has everything stock so I can remove and play with. Thank you.
Try the xboarder pretty much stock and debloated

Use this. It's the best stock ROM we have. Super quick, super awesome. Debloated and tweaked for performance.
is this the official ota, or just a leak before ota happend? latest but rooted? just want to get my answers before my phone gets here and because i dont like all that much tweaking of a rom or adding stuff to it just like i noticed with the xboarder link he added that host file adblock, can that just be uninstalled and be back to normal?

or you can try faux's rom and kernel it works well.

There is no adblock. It's an optional add on. It is the official OTA. He just slimmed it down and made it faster. No UI tweaks, or graphical tweaks of any kind
Yeah I was using xboarders tweeked version and it was great Super stable and great battery life no real issues. The completly stock one is good to but the tweek is better. It was my favorite till I installed eaglesblood 1.0.8 that is the best ROM ever made great everything it has a few issues but they are not specific to that ROM no one has figured out A2DP yet to my knowledge. I'm sure they will soon though. I think everyone should use eaglesblood.
Here. This is the OTA 2.3.3 update. It is rooted but that's pretty much it. Still has all the T-Mobile blaotware, etc. Flash it via clockworkmod recovery.

Yea this is the same as the OTA from July/August, its just already rooted. Its not the leaked version from back in April or May or whenever that was. Right now this is the easiest (maybe the only?) way to have rooted 2.3.3 stock rom. You have to use nvflash (check development section for easy-to-use nvflash tool) to flash clockworkmod recovery and then you can boot into recovery and flash this zip.
And note that this zip will not touch your baseband.
Here's a link to the nvflash recovery flasher

perfect, everything i am gonna need.. thank you again

Check about phone in the settings when you get it, if your baseband is the march one then you need to run the lg update tool to get the new one.
No other way to get it, and it's a huge improvement.

If you flash a rooted room via clockwork it'll be fine. The official update can't be rooted but nothing can stop you from installing a completely new, rooted rom.

Seems much more simple to root when your at 2.3.5 (with stock recovery) then OTA update and you will keep root. I think it MIGHT work even if you have CWM but have not tested.
INope doesnt work if u have cwm i tested and so did a few others. But yes thats correct thats easier but i posted this for those who took the update and were not rooted

People are reporting that they didn't loose root when updating. However, not sure if they had stock recovery or not installed at the time. I didn't risk it and flashed back to stock then confirmed SuperOneClick did not work. Used the method described above and rooted.
Yes they had stock recovery. You cant take the ota unless you have stock recovery. And correct if you are rooted with stock recovery u will not loose root
Coming from Captivate and have had flashed HTC phones in the past, I kind of feel like anything Odin IS the easy method. It's like we had a OneClickMethod and a TwoClickMethod.
Correct odin is very easy if you read and follow all directions.

Anybody have a link to the stock recovery for the skyrocket. I want to avoid having to flash completely back to stock before updating to 2.3.6.

WHY are we going to the OTA update if many are reporting poor 4g performance after the update. I don't want my 4g to run slower just so I can say I have 2.3.6

[CMW] Rom may flash stock recovery on boot. Fix?

Im using CMW Recovery 6.0.1.0, when I install a rom and reboot I get this message, "Rom may flash stock recovery on boot. Fix?" I said yes... Does saying yes or no make a difference?

This is an outdated thread from before the bootloader was unlocked. Basically, disregard what they are implying because the way flashing roms used to work is "different" than how it is now. Our bootloader was unlocked on August 15th, since that date, when you flash a rom the kernel is flashed as well. It's my understanding that this was not the case when our bootloader was locked prior to August 15th, only a rom was flashed not a kernel. The kernel remained the same throughout all the roms, it was the touchwiz stock kernel. As I said already, this is no longer the case.
Ignore this thread and read DroidStyle's guide in the Development Section if you have any questions regarding the flashing roms process. Also, backup your IMEI.

the recovery is not the kernel
say yes
The question has no relevance when running a custom rom. It's there for reverting back to stock on a stock rom/returning original recovery.
Saying yes or no has zero impact unless your on stock rom.
