I just picked up a a Bionic from a local guy for $250 mint in box. I did not think the SIM swap would work being with Verizon so long and having to call or swap phones online with the ESN, but it work flawlessly.
I am liking this Bionic alot. Just pick up the extended battery for half off at the a Corp Verizon store today. This thing is faster, lighter, thinner, and just over all sleeker looking than my TBolt with the mole (Extended battery) on the back. That is one thing I really hated on the Tbolt is how the extended battery fit.
I don't even have this Bionic rooted yet and it blows away my Tbolt on battery life and speed. I'm still getting use to the Motorola android system but digging it so far.
Just some thoughts... I still have my TBolt up and running on WiFi only.
Both have plusses and minuses.
It's all about personal preference...
Don't think you can use Data and voice at the same time on the Bionic (that's a big deal for some...not for others..)
I personally like sense. You either love it or hate it... those that hate it tend to like the Motorola devices.
Traditionally, HTC devices are not locked down like Motorola...
Moto makes quality hardware, no doubt about it.
Moto phones are known for better battery life, etc.
I'm still very happy with my bolt...gotta give it up soon as we're going to T-Mobile for work, but I'm still very happy with it. Can't wait till ICS is running on it...

The first by itself is huge. The second makes it a deal breaker. I can't imagine the difference in speed being anything other than negligible and mitigating.

What is Huge? The Tbolt or the Bionic? The Tbolt is bigger and heaver than the Bionic with or without the extended batteries installed.
Also I am not a speed freak. Matter of fact I force 3G on all my droids don't really see the need to run 4G. I am just not liking the HTC built quality after looking and holding other phones and they way they designed use of the extended battery. wow...
The Dinc was not bad it actually looked kool with the layers in the back.
Yes they both have there positives and negatives and like I said I am keeping the Tbolt. It's nice now you can just swap the sim and you on the new phone. That is one thing I always like about the GSM networks.
If I could find a Battery that would keep the original shape (not the big ugly bump on the back) of the Tbolt and last like the Bionic. I would probably stay with the Tbolt
I am still liking the Bionic a little better right now and it's still Stock.
May be rooting it today, but really don't think I will need to other than to remove bloat
That new Razr looks sweet but I would to see it with an extended battery. Also heard that Verizon is locking the bootloader on it, but I am sure it will be rooted after a while.

I need to see if the local Verizon store has it in stock. I will buy and try.
I like in the androidcentral post (Forgetful) mentions it's a Lipo battery. Ya right I wish. The Iphone 4 has a Lipo battery in it and My TF101 Transformer 32GB has a Lipo battery in it and they are awesome, but if you have a device that has a Lipo battery in it you will not be able to remove it. Google Lipo Battery fires. I use these batteries in my RC aircraft and I keep them in a fire proof box. They will catch fire if you break the pack and introduce air to the chemicals inside. They also take special chargers.
These Droids would be sweet running Lipo batteries. I almost got an iphone (cough cough) because of this.

Ohhhhh... I did not know that? Thanks for learning me something.
Is it a Lipo battery??? I need to look into this.
Update:
Nope just looked it up. A normal Li-Ion battery
If you can't remove the battery this Droid Razr is a major POS
Droid Razr
Battery: 1780 mAH Li–Ion
SAR: Head 1.45 W/kg / Body–worn 0.71 W/kg
Talk Time – Up to approx. 12.5 hours or Standby Time – Up to approx. 8.5 days

I looked into it a little more and it is easier to replace the battery than say on an iPhone, but they definately don't want you doing it. The back casing needs to be edged out all the way around with a fingernail, and the battery is GLUED to the back case, which can be removed carefully. After that, the battery is electrical taped down. So for whatever reason, they don't want you in it. Also, the manual says removing the case voids the warranty, but the write up said they didn't see any "void if removed" stickers. Just some info you might not care to read
I actually got worse battery life on the bionic with the extended battery than the tbolt with the stock battery. I have switched back to the tbolt and like it better. I hate the fact the bionic has a locked bootloader and is the reason I will not buy another moto phone. I have been watching the rezound and the moment it gets s-off and I have sold the bionic I will be buying the rezound.

I, personally, have both the Bionic and the Tbolt too and I gotta say that I prefer the Tbolt by far. The Tbolt has a developer rich community where the Bionic has a locked bootloader and roms that simply aren't very inventive. I would advise AGAINST rooting the Bionic as it seems to mess with bluetooth connectivity, gps, and the dock. Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing but respect for Kejar and DroidTh3ory and the rest of the Bionic dev gang BUT my personal opinion is that the Tbolt is the saving grace for those that like to have options with their phone's operating system. To make my case in point, I am using my goofed up(my fault for deleting stuff) Tbolt and letting my Bionic just SIT lol.

I never felt the need for the extended battery on the tbolt because of custom kernels that ran very lean, and using setcpu to set profiles for when the screen is off. With the bionic, for starters, it felt to light and frail without the extended battery, and also the extended battery was needed because of the lack of custom kernels due to the locked bootloader the thing eats battery like crazy.
Personally I had only ever purchased HTC phones, but got the bionic anyway. I learned from my mistake, and will probably only ever purchase HTC phones ever again, unless this bootloader issue gets figuired out. Seems like moto phones never get the bootloader cracked.

Good stuff to know. Thanks.
I have not rooted the Bionic yet. I do like the Tbolt I put the original battery back in to make it lighter and slimmer and I'm liking it even more. I just worry about battery life. I will go pick up a Rezound battery today and see how that goes.
The Bionic seems to have better battery life for me. I like having a spare driod and I got a good deal on the Bionic. I may sell it on ebay and make a few bucks and then pick up a Rezound to play with. I am hearing good things about it and the back cover looks like it would not be bad to have an extended battery in it.

Kendive, I like the way you think. I just discovered last night one great thing with rooting the Bionicn though. There is a hack where you can use the 4g hotspot(21mbps for me) for free. It doesn't have the right chipset to provide a hotspot for PS3 and game systems(just computers) but still it's pretty nice! Let me know if you get the rezound, I'd be interested in hearing what you think about it!
I had an iphone 4 for about a year, and then decided to get the Tbolt, Bought it off of somebody for 150 that was only a month old. I love the phone. but wanted something faster. So I ended up trading my iPhone4 for a Bionic and thought I would be in love with it. I switched to the bionic and had so many problems with it. I couldn't stand the 4G issues. One of the reasons I switched from the iphone to thunderbolt. I hated that I couldnt wifi tether my 4G to my iPad . So I went back to the thunderbolt. As of right now my bionic is sitting in my bookbag not getting any use and I am back to using my rooted TB with the extended battery. As much as I would love to use the bionic, it just wasn't cutting it for me. If I could find a way to wifi tether with it, I might try and use it again..

Wow so many people that have the Bionic just sitting around. I am still using the Bionic and have no issues with data. Like I said I force 3G. I also did that on the Tbolt I don't really see a need for 4G and it sucks up the battery to fast. I could see you point with the WiFi tether and 4G if the Tbolt was on AC power.
I think I tried the WiFi tether once to to see it works but really don't need it PDANet works great for me to use with a laptop once in a while in an Airport, but I don't even do that much.
They both are great phones. I like them equally.
And it's kinda nice right now not being rooted and not worrying about what ROM I want to try next and then wipe my phone and reload everything. My Wife can't believe my phones still work as much as I mess with them. LOL
Well I got a rezound battery coming for the Tbolt and I will give it another chance on battery life. The Verizon store did not have any in stock but shipping me one for $19.99
I got to play with that new Razr. Pretty sweet phone and he said the battery has not been bad at all. Time will tell.

Yea trust me, I hate the fact that I got the phone and I am not using it, after all this bionic talk I am thinking about switching back to it and giving it another try, maybe even force just 3G. Like you said, both are great phones and I like them a lot better then the iPhone I had. What is PDANet I keep hearing about? when I was using the bionic I used to just usb to my laptop for internet while I was out. I still don't understand why Verizon lets you do that for free with the bionic but with the thunderbolt you have to pay
The tethering with the Bionic is pretty easy.
Here are the steps:
1. Root Bionic with Petes 1click
2. download SQlite editor
3. open SQlite editor(give it some time)
4. Filter by name and type "Check"
5. Change Value next to "Entitlement Check" from 1 to ZERO(0)
6. reboot phone
7. Enjoy 4g tethering for FREE!

Its not a problem. The phone charges that way by design; the idea is that it will extend the overall life of the battery by not letting it get fully or possibly over charged.

but it goes to 97% sometimes. is it possible to go 100% in the long term ? I feel 95% does not give me the same battery life as 100%.
the only way to really get it to 100% is let it charge to 95% then keep the phone awake but the 5% difference is nothing. Its nothing to worry about.
That behavior is not by design, it's a poorly implemented battery profile in the phone.
Not much you can do unless someone changes the preset voltage values for 100% "full" (and/or other battery settings).

No no, it's actually implemented this way, and it's a choice.
Some manufacturers have modified the way the battery stats are handled to show 100% even on "stock" rom experience, but that isn't the case for the Nexus S.
HTC is notable for this.
On the other hand, you can use a kernel with the 100% cosmetic fix implemented or if you're REALLY REALLY sure, you can bump charge your phone to 100%. Doing the later will however reduce the life of your battery, so if you expect to keep your phone for a long time I wouldn't suggest it.
Here's a nice written article, applying for the Droid but just about any Android smartphone too.

thank for the link. it's interesting to know that doing multiple short-time charge í better than a long-time one.
I was also wondering why it never goes to 100% when I charge my new nexus phone. Thanks for sharing

That's another thing I really miss about my old Evo - SBC charging and 30+ hrs from the stock 1500mAh battery. Many custom kernels implemented SBC to allow a full 100% charge, and I never witnessed any performance degradation over the course of a year.
The battery service life issue rumored to result from fully charging the lithium ion cells was largely dismissed as just that... a rumor. Hundreds, if not thousands of Evo users use SBC without any problems - in fact, I do not recall anyone writing about sbc-related problems at all.

I used SBC kernels on my Nexus One and the battery life was insanely good. Never had problems. I stopped using them because I was scared of the horror stories.
Personally, I'm rarely somewhere (for extended periods of time) that I can't charge my phone. And if I am on a long drive or out and about it's not like I'm doing much with my phone.

Actually I remember people posting problems with SBC and I didn't even have an EVO. Remember the phones that went almost on fire?
Anyway I don't really need such a kernel, I use BLX to limit at 90% and get through a day just fine, sometimes through a day and a half.
My phone charged so that it read 100% when i first got it. Only after i installed glados kernel did it stop at 96% because he didn't implement the illusionary fix.
Hi, I'm planning on purchasing an HTC Sensation now that I've gotten rid of my iPhone 4.
I do have some issues regarding the purchase. I've seen threads commenting on dust collecting under screen and a poor battery life. Are these issues common on the phone? And if they are, is it possible to clean out the screen when the issue occurs? I've heard about a 1900mAh battery so I guess that's a better fix for the battery.
I'm on a T-Mobile family plan with no data plan. If I purchase an unlocked Sensation, will T-Mobile automatically add a data plan to my line? This happened to me when I used my iPhone 4 I got as a present on my AT&T line.
Thanks!
Not had my phone for all that long so I can't comment on the dust under the screen issue yet. But for battery life there are a few things that can be done, if you root your phone you can get SetCPU and underclock your phone when it's screen is off to extend the battery life or get Juice Defender, which disables wifi and data when the screen is off but turns them back on every 15 minutes to allow it to sync and will then turn them off again to save battery.
But even without a rooted phone, although the battery life certainly isn't good it will just about get you through a long day. But obviously you can also get a 19000mAh battery or even a further extended one as well as an external battery that can charge your phone up providing you don't mind carrying one around.
Also, can the Sensation play flash videos natively? I've heard some mixed claims regarding that.
I have had the Sensation for quite some time now and I don't have one spec of dust under my screen. And battery life is good. It last me through the day but I bought the Anker 1900mAh battery because it is so cheap and so amazing lol.
I would recommend the Sensation to anyone.
Anker 10,000 maH battery......
I purchased the Anker 10,000 maH battery. I had to...... I use my phone all day long. So I really don't turn on my main computer everyday. Especially since I installed a terminal emulator on my Sense. Now I can correct code, and scripts on the fly. I can re-charge my phone 5 times with this brick. Fits in my shirt pocket, and it takes an hour from 10% battery to 100%. Not bad.....

Dust under the screen is a common issue, but it's only a lot more common than it should be - the number of Sensations affected is still a very low amount. The safest way to take care of it is to go through T-Mo or HTC and they'll clean it out. Trying to do it yourself will definitely void the warranty cause you'll have to dismantle the phone.
Battery can be terrible, but a chichitec, anker, or mugen 1900mAh battery along with a good rom/kernel/clockspeed combo fixes that. I'm on Android HD 3.x gingerbread with the stock kernel, clocked at 1.5Ghz when the screen is on, 768Mhz when it's off, heavy user and I can make it through the day. The other thing to consider is how you use the phone. The Super-LCD looks crazy crisp, and it is, sunlight visibility is great and color reproduction is nice - although it's no SAMOLED. Here's the problem though, it's a mega power drainer. If you listen to a lot of music on your phone or maybe stream Pandora comedy, you shouldn't have any issues. If you're an all-day facebooker or constantly texting/emailing, that screen will destroy your battery and I couldn't recommend the phone, as much as I love it Don't get me wrong, you could do it, but you'll probably need a spare battery or a charger with you.
With the 1900mAh battery, I can have the screen on constantly and texting/emailing/browsing for about 3 hours straight. If I keep the screen on and play games, 2 and a half hours. Not much difference even though one is a lot more intensive than the other. The S-LCD panel is a huge battery drain.
I haven't had any problems with dust under the screen.
Battery life great for the amount of time i use the phone everyday (screenshot attached).
If you're up for it i'd suggest you flash a custom ROM to use the full potential of the phone. Personally i like Android Revolution HD, but it's all down to personal preference. Try a few different ones and use what you like the most.
Hi guys!
First things first:
Happy New Year to everyone!
I'm thinking of an upgrade (from HTC Vision & iPhone 4S) and looking at Sensation as an option and I've got a few questions regarding that.
My main concern is it not to late to jump to a Sensation? are there good developers still around? I remember RMK jumped from G2 to sensation, and he's still here, how about others? Any rumors or plans to abandon Sensation? I'd imagine alot of them getting the new GN, I can't really be bothered, rather have an option between Sense and AOSP.
My other question would be is the hardware acceleration fully functional on current ICS roms?

Despite having GNexus I would recommend the HTC Sensation. Had it before gnex and it's very good phone. Had two small issues :
1) battery under heavy use drain fast - bigger battery recommended.
2) random ringtone/notification change (this could be related to 2.08.401.1 ROM, which isn't officially released, but is a test ROM).
Other than this is VERY good device and won't let you down.

Disappointing? Nothing . Only issue I had, was the "volume ghost", but after flashing 4.0.2 all OK. It's different device and as I was hard addict to Sense, I'm surprised how quickly get used to GNex. Love it
i have no dust on my screen yet. i buy it 3 month ago.
ps:i come from China.hah
The dust problem is annoying, but it's no problem to get a new phone when the first one has dust under the screen. The Akku is okey for one day full use, when you load it every night. When you need better akku there are good ones with 1900mAh, on Amazon Germany for example the one by Anker.
Thanks for the input everybody!
Regarding the data plan. I currently have a family plan with no data. When I purchase my Sensation on ebay or any other auction site, and then use my T-Mobile sim, will I automatically be added a data plan?
Back in June 2011 i purchased my first 4.3inch device, the HD2. I instantly fell in love with the huge screen and how open the comunity made this phone. but sadly i had to part ways with it because of a missing volume rocker, broken camera & screen. Now to the point.
Is the Inspire 4G worth the upgrade despite both phones having almost the same GPU and CPU?
That depends on how you will use it and how you are looking to acquire it. What network do you plan to use? Will it be an everything device or just a phone? Are you looking to keep it awhile or is it just until the next phone you really want comes out?
We've got a great community with some phenomenal devs and great moderators. With ICS due soon for the DHD, support should be great through the end of the world (12/21/12).
If I had to get a phone to last me until my next upgrade, I would have no problem laying down the money used Inspires are selling for right now. I'm even thinking about getting one to replace the wife's xperia which is due for an upgrade even sooner than my Inspire.
It is still a very capable phone and looks like it will get better over the coming months.

I switched from an iphone to the Inspire, I like the Inspire way better, but
the battery life seems pretty bad, and there are no "real" extended batteries,
and the ones you find on eday and amazon are all over rated and a lot of them have
even less capacity than the stock battery.
I would say expect to get, about 3 to 4 hours web surfing, or, 7 to 8 hours talk time,
or, 3+ hours of local video, on a "good" battery. -- That was from battery estimates
on my Inspire using Battery Monitor Widget, most of the time using a little bit of
everything I get a little over 5 hours of use.
The Inspire's camera is the best I have ever seen on a phone, and it records pretty
good video, the screen is also very good, and the hardware seem every bis as good if
not better than the iphone, I like this phone a lot.
Actually, if you're rooted and flash a different kernel and rom you could get 16hours on a full charge. Stock rom has too much bloatware along with the horrible battery life.

I did root, and installed Android Revolution HD, and its recommended radio,
then No-Sense++, removed Facebook and Friendstream, did the whole
calibrating the battery bit, V6 SuperCharger, juice defender, autorun manager
to disable stuff, also a new battery.
The battery estimates I gave from Battery Monitor Widget are from my
inspire after a 3 near full discharges, as I was breaking in a new battery.
About the only thing left for me to try is under clocking the CPU,
or trying another rom.
My battery life depends on my location. At work, the signal is terrible and I am usually on the charger after lunch. At home, I can leave it on battery from Friday morning until Sunday night.
It is true that I have other options for everything other than phone calls while at home but I'm not usually using my phone much while I'm at work because I'm at work.

The battery life is not the worst I have ever had on a device like this, but
it's much like the old days of PDAs, and just like my old PDA back in the day
I am going to have to get an external battery pack, or keep a charger handy.
I got looking up different kernels for battery life, and CoreDroid seems to have
the LordMod kernel, and from what I understand that kernel is good for battery
life, I will give it a try.
Rom you flash has alot to do with the battery life.
Check my signature, the one Im using now is unbeatable.

i think battery life is awesome on this phone, Ive never had such good battery life with any other smartphone..
I dont think it needs extended battery.
I think HTC actually tried to eliminate battery drain before making a non removable battery.
I second that, getting great battery usage.

I made it from 7:30Am to 10:32PM without hitting 10% reserve. The battery life is fine. Just wish people in the amaze form would realize that.

Battery life is just great. Nearly no drain in idle.

Mobile all the way
There will always be people who want an extended battery, but its really not needed unless you are using your phone to make 50 pho.e calls in a day or you play 3 hours of games. most people will be more than happy with the battery life provided by the One S.

no need for a Extended Battery here, where would the battery go if there was one
If you are in bad cell coverage (which eats more juice) or are a heavy user, pray god invest a few bucks into a Gumpack external battery. That thing is half the size if a pack of cigs and stores enough juice for 2-3 full recharges on the go. Its one little more gadget to toss into your daypack and remember to keep charged but its well worth the bother. Certainly easier than speculating about a bigger battery while batt life is fine for most users.
And I am not bashing, if you have a 1.5h commute to work and spend it playing GTA3 i can see where the juice goes. So a gumpack battery would be your best approach, with the current 28nm Krait architecture there is not a lot to gain batterywise really. Plus, the AMOLED sucks less juice on dark images, something to keep in mind when picking a background image I think.
